Really excited to read Chandler's story, but I really loathed the Alana Gore character. She was unredeemably hateful in Tempting the Player. I mean I completely HATED her.
UPDATE:
I tried to read it- but I was fed up with the fucking gymnastics the author had to perform to make Alana redeemable. It's just that there is nothing here. Not with Alana, and not with Chandler. He's basically a walking hard-on, and the greatest claim to a personality is that she curses like a sailor- supposedly- when she's alone (or with Chandler). To make Alana sympathetic Lynn tried pulling every trick in the book: orphan, raised by cold Grandmother, she's actually hates forcing people to do what she wants, oh and at one point she shoves her bodyguard- who is repeatedly the WORST bodyguard ever- out of the way and takes a bullet for him. He's constantly berating his brothers into feeling bad about being angry at Alana for her actions in Tempting the Player. As if she were fixing Chad's PR image out of the goodness of her heart. Everyone should forgive her because she's solely responsible for Chad & Bridget being together- um, not exactly. They lived in the same city, had close family connections how is it impossible they wouldn't have eventually connected without her horrendous treatment of Bridget? Because it was completely within bounds to make Bridget feel like shit about her weight, about having a sexual relationship with Chad, or ruthlessly FORCING Bridget to date Chad. The ends do not justify the means. And I understand forgiveness, but she's never said sorry. I think I'm stupidly angry at a book. But I really HATE Alana, and Chandler- it's ok to not give a shit about Bridget but FUCK anyone who genuinely has a reason to dislike Alana. And what's with the misogynistic bullshit, saying his brothers had vagina's because they were "gossiping", or because Chad carries a fuchsia good luck charm from Bridget when he's playing ball.
Disappointed by the sex scenes, I shouldn't compare one book to another- but I could not get BDSM or any Dom vibe from Chandler- he just seemed like a pushy dick, after reading Kreley Cole's The Professional, all characters PALE next to Sevastian in that arena. But that's not a fault of the book, that's just me comparing apples to oranges.
Sorry, I was just so angry, I couldn't get passed EVERYTHING stupid about this couple or how I'm supposed to forgive. That scene with Bridget and Alana was intolerable, first she tried to buy Bridget to "date Chad so she's treating her like a prostitute. Then she's blackmailing Bridget by threatening her livelihood and dream job. Then she threatens to spin the story of their captured on camera kiss by calling her overweight and desperate. Fuck you. She invaded Bridget privacy, she forced an innocent woman to do whatever it took to get her way but it's cool because it's "her job".
Update: so I felt bad about trashing a book I didn't finish. there's an apology afterall- but its to Chad. that's missing whole damn point if you don't apologize to the right person. and the hug I. the Epilogue, and saying thank you for everything to Alana from Bridget. Fuck me.
