What do you do when you run into the men who made your childhood hell? Move in with them, of course!
It was a decision made from one part desperation and one part need for revenge… I moved into their house, but they quickly moved into my mind every waking minute of every freaking day. Because they’re different than I
Van was always the golden boy with the cheeky smile. Now that smile has a hungry edge that is saved just for me. Gage was always tall and silent, but he’s a wall of hard muscle now and part of me wants to find out exactly how big. And Connor? With those dimples and that cocky attitude, he’s got trouble written all over him.
Well, it turns out the joke’s on me. I might be the one engaging in juvenile pranks this time, but these three guys are determined to play the biggest prank of all. To get me back—in their life, in their bed, in their hearts.
This is a contemporary reverse harem, rom com standalone romance where the girl doesn't have to choose.
The guys were all "it's always been her! " while also screwing their way through Australia. One of them even tells her brother that he was always thinking of her when screwing other girls. Also, they used to share girls with her brother. Ew.
The only likeable male in the entire book was her annoying best friends boyfriend.

🦸🏼♀️ Heroine Spotlight: Kendall
Kendall’s resilience is quietly heroic. She’s been fending for herself since eighteen, juggling low-wage bakery work and a rotating cast of questionable roommates — including one with a compost habit best left unmentioned. Her housing luck hits rock bottom when she’s booted from her latest place after her roommates hook up, and the alternatives are grim: think metal shed with a porta-potty. Just as she’s ready to give up, a listing catches her eye — a room in a gorgeous house with a pool, shared by three men. Kendall’s skeptical (and rightly so), but her best friend Barbie nudges her toward the possibility.
🦸🏻♂️ Hero Spotlight: Van, Gage, and Connor
These three — co-owners of a construction company with Kendall’s brother Finn — are the kind of guys who can build a house from scratch and charm a neighborhood while doing it. They’ve kept one of their flipped homes for themselves, but past male renters were disasters. Their logic? Women are cleaner, better smelling, and less likely to leave pizza boxes in the pool. Enter Kendall — except she’s not just any woman. She’s the girl they tormented in childhood, the one they secretly pined for but couldn’t touch thanks to Finn’s protective big-brother edict.
📃 Plot Pulse
Kendall’s initial reaction is pure nope — these are her childhood tormentors, the pranksters who made her life miserable. But housing desperation and heartfelt apologies shift the dynamic. The guys own up to their past, and Barbie encourages Kendall to consider the setup — not just for the pool, but for a little poetic revenge. What unfolds is a slow-burn reckoning with old wounds, new chemistry, and the messy beauty of second chances.
💘 What Hit Home
• The emotional payoff of the guys’ long-standing crush on Kendall — masked by pranks, buried by loyalty to Finn — adds depth to their redemption arc. • Their protectiveness during the reveal of their poly relationship is tender and affirming. • The neighborhood drama post-reveal is hilarious and heartfelt, with families reacting like it’s a soap opera set in suburbia.
🧐 What Fell Flat
• The setup for needing a fourth roommate felt shaky. With three successful contractors sharing a mortgage, the financial logic didn’t quite land. A clearer explanation would’ve strengthened the premise.
🎧 Narration Notes
Sofia Lette and Djorje Swallow deliver a solid multiple POV experience, and their Australian accents add charm. Lette’s voice is smooth and expressive, while Swallow’s character differentiation could use polish — especially with a cast this large. A duet format might’ve elevated the emotional beats, but overall, the narration holds up well.
📝 Final Takeaway
This story blends humor, heartache, and heat with a heroine who’s earned every inch of her independence and three heroes who finally grow into the men she deserves. It’s a messy, sweet, and satisfying ride — with just enough chaos to keep things interesting.
I really wanted to like this book because I do love a good second chance grovel romance, but this book fell flat for me.
I was completely ready for Van, Connor and Gage to grovel for forgiveness from Kendall for all the horrible years they tortured the poor girl which led to her essentially running away. However, what I didn’t expect was Kendall to go from a woman suffering prank PTSD to in love with them in a blink of an eye. She went from hating them and wishing to never see them again to basically “dating” them, like the idea of poly relationship with all three was a typical occurrence she didn’t even hesitate and there really wasn’t a conversation. You have to understand this is a long book and all this takes place within 40% of the book.
I was also confused about guys’ lack of motivation to find her after all this time. Honestly, I have to say these 3 had a lot of nerve, they tortured Kendall for years brutally, for my understanding when it wasn’t pranks it seemed to include having sex with her friends. However, these 3 geniuses thought that once she graduated they could reveal their real feelings for her and they could be together regardless of what her brother, Finn, wanted. Again, let me repeat that, they tortured her for years and thought they could flip a switch and tell her they loved her and they would be in a happily ever after situation. Unfortunately for them, things did not go according to plan and they didn’t see Kendall ever again until now. My question was why didn’t they ever search for her? They’re grown adults, they could’ve hired a PI or asked around because they knew she lived in town, but still did not see her around.
It was just a lot of random things like that and for 60% of the book it was just a lot of super sweet romance and steamy scenes but not much obstacles for them to overcome until the end. I wasn’t a fan of any of their parents (major hypocrites), especially Kendall’s dad, he seemed to be kind of a bully to her throughout her entire life, and her mom kind of seemed like a doormat. The whole Finn situation, at one point was a little confusing and it was giving a bit of an ick vibe until it was explained.
It was a good book; I did enjoy the relationship between all four people, but it just felt like the summary was pretty much completed in the first 40%; and the rest of the book was just like fluff until we got to the obstacle at the end.
Also, my favorite part of the book was that Kendall’s best friend was Barbie; Barbie and Ken doll so clever.

I liked this book. It had multiple point of views. As a reader we really get to read about her feelings about all the horrid pranks that were pulled on her, and man my heart was broken each time there was a flashback. I loved how she got to meet them years later, and her bestie at the time had no idea about her history with them. She cheered her on constantly and it was so nice to see a supportive character like that. It broke a little bit of me to read about the worst of the pranks and how the truth came out. I’m just glad they found each other again. I wish the perpetrator, I won’t name names, voiced his guilty conscience to the parents. That was an awful trick and it followed her for years. I’m just glad it all worked out for them. It didn’t grab me like some books of Sam’s but I think this is a solid 4 stars. I was given an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.
So I have read a lot of Hall's fantasy novels, but this contemporary was a first for me. I enjoyed this story and all the characters in it. The only real issues I had in it were personal, I think, nad had mote to do with the sibling relationship.
4.4 stars. Yeah…if there’s gonna be mention of bullying in the books I read, this is how I want it. I absolutely loved how gone they were for her from the second they saw her again. And the way they did literally anything and everything to gain her trust…damn hot is what that was.
This was fine, but if I think harder about it I would dislike it more. What didn't work for me:
#1. The premise - She forgoes her lifelong dream because of one prank (no matter how serious it was) and then never did the thing she loved again nor told her best friend about it? Dumb. Also, it's super juvenile to claim that all 3 dudes pranked her because they liked her and wanted her attention. That might be acceptable until the age of 14 or so, but not until they are 18.
#2. The FMC's best friend sounded like a crazy sex fiend that could not shut up.
#3. The FMC's family treated her like shit. Her brother sabotaged her life because he was jealous, her father acted like "boys will be boys", and her mother just wanted to make sure the mess was cleaned up.
#4. It felt like she has one relationship with three men, instead of three individual relationships that coexisted and were harmonious.
#5. The last prank was uncalled for.
#6. Not as much sex as you'd expect from a RH book.
What I did like: The MMCs did make a genuine effort to change even before they got the FMC back. They expressed real emotional maturity and were supportive.
I think part of the "fun-ness" of the book was lost in translation as the story is set in Australia (and I think the author is Australian, too). My understanding is that joking around and taking the piss is the standard there.
This will most likely be my last Sam Hall book. I've found that the writing does not live up to the promise of the synopsis.
2 1/2 ⭐️/ 3🌶️IDK! This book was super weird because I first thought that the three of them were brothers… it wasn’t until like chapter 8 when I realized they were all just friends. I honestly just couldn’t get past them bully that girl for so long . Her brother is an asshole for sure but it took her going to them for them to apologize??? and the ending was to long, I skipped the whole business stuff bc boring!! in general there was a lot of boring moments for me. I just didn’t love anyone in the book like none of the main characters. And I just felt bad for sis the entire time. I really like Alan and Barbie! it got spicy towards the end and there’s about 4-5 spicy scenes that were good!
Soooo. As per usual, Sam Hall is either hit or miss with me… this was a miss. I kept reading about the same things over and over and over again. Got the point. Move on. The way they handled conflict? Am I really suppose to believe these are successful mature humans? I just felt everything was all around over the top and/or immature on everyone’s part.
I am a big fan of Sam Hall's PNR books & her foray into contemporary romance is no different! If you enjoy a good laugh with some heart & lots of spice I would definitely give this book a go!
DNF at 63% i couldn’t get past this dialogue of them running through the same issue over and over. also the “i was mean to you because i loved you” is so outdated and not cute in this. i couldn’t get past that 😭😭😭
Wow. I seriously love this book! It gives fated mates devotion energy to contemporary romance, and that's not something I realized I was desperately missing. Like, the concept that a fated-mate level of obsession and worship is possible from human men was not even something I had considered previously.
Ill be honest, the first chapter was my least favorite, and I felt I lacked a connection to the characters. I'm telling you, stick it out, because after that... 😍🥵🤩🥰 It gets amazing!
I highly recommend this read if you want all the spicy romance you can handle, kicking your feet and giggling as your butterflies take flight, and some of the best characters and plot I've read in recent contemporary romance.
It's romance, but it's also relationships with friends, family, and self that drive this story. I could wax poetic, but I'll get to the specifics:
Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved some and hated others, but I felt so strongly about these characters that you know they're compelling! I will never get enough of Sam Hall's incredible ability to create wholly masculine men that are not problematic. It's one thing when it's writing paranormal / fantasy, but believable unproblematic human men who understand emotional and mental labor and want to do it! Men who hold themselves and each other accountable.
Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I cannot explain how great this plot is without spoiling. Technically not a mystery romance, but there was enough secrecy, deception, and misunderstanding to have me hooked and constantly turning the page.
Writing: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I'm a huge fan, but be aware that this is written in Australian English and can be an adjustment for American and Brit readers.
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶 So spicy. Not over the top enough to take you out of the story and relationships. I feel like it's my perfect heat. There's so much to say about the scenes, but not without spoilers. FYI, Hall writes spicy tension better than anyone I have read.
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had so much fun reading this that I absolutely did not want to put it down! I can't wait to read more from this author.
Some kids are bullied when they are young, stupid pranks getting pulled and feelings getting hurt. It was worse for Kendal because her bullied lived in the bedroom next door, her brother Finn, and his three best friends, Van, Gage and Connor, the four lived to torment Kendal, but she wasn't some wallflower she gave it back just as good. Years later, after leaving home and living her own life Kendal is struck with a housing crisis, forced to move out of her current home she is desperate to take anything as long as it has running water, So when she finds the perfect place she wants to jump at it, although the room comes with three male roommates. With her best friend pushing to take a look at the house, Kendal finds herself face to face with her past. The house is perfect, the room, the living space, the pool, the only downside is the three male roommates, her past, Van, Gage and Connor. The three men standing in front of her now seem to be apologetic and sincere, doing their best to convince her to move in , to make amends for their wrong doings in childhood.
Kendal is cautious about living with these three but perhaps its a chance to get them back, perhaps play a few pranks to get them back for all the stuff they put her through, she figures what's the worst that can happen?
I really enjoyed this book. Absolutely loved how the guys fell first, Gage would be my fav.
Eh. This felt a little far fetched for me, I get pranking you best friends sister because your crashing on her but sometimes the situations they detail are literal things siblings do that NO TEENAGE BOY crushing on a hot girl would do.
Also she was SO mad and HATED them for all pranks to the point the author was describing that she had ptsd from it but the literal second she finds out they werent behind the worst prank, she fucks them and is in love? Like, girl, be so for real. You liked the pranks and shit. the last one went too far for sure, but that was your brother, and you even said you knew in your heart back then that it was real him, so why did you even act this way!?
The only good thing about this book was their foursome in the kitchen, I cracked up when the stove was on fire and the firetruck were there.

A cute story about Kendall growing up with an older brother and his three friends that picked and pranks on her constantly. One prank was so bad it cost her an apprenticeship. Kendall left after that and was gone a while. Now she, with her BFF, Barbie, looking to rent a room for Kendall. They come across and ad and it turns out it the home to the old pranksters Gage, Connor, and Van. Kendall said Hell no but Barbie asked why not? Pay back is a bitch. Oh let the fun begin because karma is a bitch. The guys were over moon that she was back into their lives again and weren’t above begging and groveling to get her to forgive them. Boy did she did she get them back. Yes! You go Girl! The story had humor too. The boys were able to redeem themselves and worked things out to a happy ending.
The brother deserved what he got! This was a good contemporary RH read. I like the enemies to lovers (ish) trope. My favorite thing was that the lie that kept them apart came to light pretty early on - not the last 3rd of the book and the rest was them working through that and getting their girl to realize they were perfect for her. Each guy was different but all were wonderful. I especially adored just how in love with her they were and they had to work to get her to love them. This was a fun and sexy read and definitely recommend.
3.7⭐️ Okay, this was adorable!! Some things were a little confusing, it took me a while to notice it was a different country so different slang! Their relationship was cute, but a little shallow, their got into a polyamorous relationship very fast, never really doubting it, mainly with the FMC, she accepted everything right away like it as a given so it was a little weird. The whole bullying the girl they because they like her is a little yucky, honestly her brother is an asshole and her best friend is the BEST! The pranking was a little childish in my opinion and the misunderstanding trope with the interview was just the worse. The story itself was very sweet tho and the spice was pretty good too!! Overall, it was an okay story.
Quickie review: 3.5-3.75 stars, This was a pretty good read. It's a brother's best friend/bully to lovers romance. Bully books are not usually my cup of tea, but it was ok in this case and didn't have too many flashbacks. It was sweet and sexy. The guys were totally instalove and gone for Kendall and were very sweet. The story was interesting. It took me a little to get into in the beginning and I didn't feel a ton of chemistry, but it got better and kept my attention after I got into it more.
