Secrets of Blood

Rate this book
To weather the storm of chaos and death, young heroes must dare to challenge the impossible.

Civil war rages in the City of the Dead. The lowest castes have taken up arms in revolt. Blood runs thick on the golden streets of Shalandra.

Amidst the uproar, Evren hunts down the leaderless, scattered brutes of the Ybrazhe Syndicate to put an end to their depredations and dispel the riots. Issa and her elite warriors battle rampaging mobs in a desperate fight to restore order.

Kodyn and Aisha pursue killers that could lead them to not only the villains orchestrating the turmoil, but the monstrous foes lurking in the deep, dark places hidden beneath the city.

Yet facing enemies far beyond their abilities to defeat alone, will they triumph against evil and put a stop to the chaos before all of Shalandra is destroyed?

I am, first and foremost, a storyteller and an artist--words are my palette. Fantasy is my genre of choice, and I love to explore the darker side of human nature through the filter of fantasy heroes, villains, and everything in between. I'm also a freelance writer, a book lover, and a guy who just loves to meet new people and spend hours talking about my fascination for the worlds I encounter in the pages of fantasy novels.

Fantasy provides us with an escape, a way to forget about our mundane problems and step into worlds where anything is possible. It transcends age, gender, religion, race, or lifestyle--it is our way of believing what cannot be, delving into the unknowable, and discovering hidden truths about ourselves and our world in a brand new way. Fiction at its very best!

The riots in the streets of the city of Shalandra have turned into a fully fledged war where those of the lower tiers turned against those of the above, turning the streets into rivers of blood. Hailen and Brianna continue to study the Serenii artefacts and her father's coded journal, doing their best to make sense of the powers Hailen knew lay within. He was Melechha, his blood the only on Einan able to close the rift and save the world from the Great Destroyer, and for this he was now once again held by the priests in yet another temple. The rest of our heroic group are scattered all over the city trying to bring down the leaders of the riots and trying to find out who was pulling the strings. They risked their lives many a time thus turning this book too into a breath taking experience, where betrayal and greed for ultimate power prevail. Many new names surface proving that these riots have long been planned for, and that the people were being manipulated by someone who would not let anything stand in his way. Issa fights on as usual, and even when her own family needs her she puts her duty to Shalandra before anything else, and suffers the consequences. Aisha comes to grips with her powers as a spirit whisperer and puts these to amazing use, whilst Evren and Kodyn take so many risks to their own lives they turned this book into a nerve wrecking one. This story is full of loss but also great revelations, and just when I thought this series could not get more intriguing it seems it just did and it stops at such a cliffhanger ending that I cannot waste any more time before going off to read book 5.

Another Great Page Turner

Andy Peloquin's fourth instalment of Heirs of Destiny, a lot like his previous books in this series, provide an incredible read once more as the movie continues to roll out in the chaos gripped city of Shalandra.

Our heroes continue to unravel the insanity that plagues the city and tensions are higher than ever with impossible odds in abundance.

The characters, as always, are incredible and really well written and the prose is top-notch. A vivid image of the city is always in your mind and it honestly makes you wonder how such a wild adventure can happen in just a single city.

If you've read my previous reviews for this series, I've already recommended it a lot as it is but this book is all the more reason to pick up the series. Peloquin is an incredible author.

Safte to say, I had a hard time putting the book down. I am positive you will too.

The big one

This book was so well put together. Every character fighting their own battles personally and in war. The way it's written is so clear who is who what is what and where they all are some other authors couldn't pull it off with the style and finesse that Andy Peloquin does. One not to miss.

Another fabulous book. Again there is non stop action as all of the heroes work on getting rid of the problems. There is more background information on all and it goes to show why they think and do what they do.
I’m not good at reviews but so far everything I’ve read by Andy Peloquin has been absolutely worth the read.

This was another good one where we finally learn who the abiarazi is. I have to admit, I was hoping the Hunter would appear in this one.

AHHH!! Everything it up in the air right now...I have theories that I don't know if I am on the right track or not but we're about to find out! My gods my brain is kind of a mess from information overload but this was all so incredible! I love how the people around our young crew are not always exactly what they seem. This has me so intrigued to see who else is hiding in the shadows.

The web of secrets, lies and corruption is laid bare, the villains exposed, in this edge-of-the-seat instalment of one of the most exciting action series I've read this decade. Although it's fantasy, I feel fans of such writers as Anthony Hope, John Buchan and Helen McInnes will also enjoy this fast-paced series with its blood and thunder, its swordplay, but above all its sound plot construction and fully developed, engaging characters. A wonderful read in the tradition of the grand old ripping yarns.

So my theory about Issa was right. It was fun to discover more about her. I need to read the next book immediately to know what happens to her!

So the gang is closer to the truth. More truths are discovered, and they are closer to fixing everything wrong. Still, too many important characters are part of the conspiracy, and stopping it is not as easy as it might seem.

Each character plays their part in solving the conflict, fighting the City's enemies at each turn. But Issa is in danger, and Aisha is fighting for her sanity as Kodyn and Evran will need to work harder to fulfill their missions.

I knew it! There is more in Issa's past than it seemed at the beginning of the series!
In this installment the action is continuous, the characters and the different situations have been developed in such a way that makes the reader feel that he is inside the story, running right alongside our heroes to save Shalandra.
In Secrets of Blood we discover some mysteries about the characters that Mr. Peloquin has taught us to love: what is the origin of Issa, what Aisha can really do with her strange power, what discoveries Hailen and Briana will make in the diary of Suroth... The only thing I miss is a cameo of Ilanna and the Hunter of Voramis!
A magnificent book that will make the reader move to a mysterious world, full of intrigue and betrayals but where there is also love, loyalty and friendship.

This is even more of a page turner than the previous books in the series! Jam packed with adventure, full of danger and fabulous people this story reaches the next level. One of the best I've read in a long time :)
I did suffer greatly from lack of sleep as I read from cover to cover as quickly as I could as I could, dying (not literally) to learn what happened next.
