Loved the book. Really enjoyed the characters and how the story progressed. Story was well written and kept me engaged and enjoying where the characters led me. My only gripe with the book ND the reason for only 4 stars was the editing or lack of. It was not enough to detract from the story but it was very irritating non the less. I seem to come across a lot of books like this with bad editing and it gets frustrating when I'm just trying to relax and enjoy a good read but the author makes me work at trying to figure out what they wrote. Now that my rant is out of the way I really did enjoy the book and can't wait to start reading the next book which will be as soon as I'm done writing this....
The editing was actually far worse in this book than the original. There were so, so many areas with truly immersion breaking issues. I'm not talking about just spelling and grammatical problems, but repeat sentences and completely misworded areas.
I really wish I could give this story a better rating because it was honestly much better than the original, but the editing was so bad that I really have to put my foot down and be honest here. The quality of this book, solely due to the editing, is atrocious. It's not quite a war crime, but it's near the border. If the editing was perfect, this would have been a 5 star book.
I’m finding the story to be interesting, but even a simple spell and grammar check would have made a considerable improvement. I can understand a new author might not be able to hire a professional editor, but any (even free) word processor would highlight most of these errors. In a few places passages made no sense - I’m guessing due to a bad revision at some point? Regardless, it was quite distracting and definitely hurt the story immersion. Not sure I’ll continue the series unless the next book shows a lot more effort in the editing department.
Sometimes series can be hit and mis from one volume to the next. That is not the case (at least so far) with this series. Zeke makes new allies (sometimes literally!) and reunites with some old allies in his quest for strength, knowledge, and power. He must grow quickly; as the Church of Olattee is his destruction.
This series continues to be an excellent read for this who enjoy the LitRPG genre; and even for those who like Fantasy, but don't care for LitRPG, because the Game stats and mechanics are far from central to the plot and may be merely glanced over to get to the meat of the story.
Never had I expected tales of a Lich to be so much about growth and chill, but this book is quite the relaxing read!! .. To those of a certain morally questionable nature, of course. If you're uncomfortable with shades of grey, this book will be one massive trigger for growth after another.
Altho there are some odd spelling errors throughout the book, with wildly excessive glitches in editing, the pace and premise absolutely deserve the 5 star rating.
It had been awhile since I read the first book, so I was at 30% before I threw my hands up in confusion and decided to reread book 1. I was glad I did because I had forgotten a large part of the story line. Moving on to book 2 made a whole lot more sense. There was a continuity error with Zeke’s staff being called Mercy in the first book and Mercry in this one. Plus a few typos, run on words and missing words, but not enough to cause problems.
The story line was great and I loved the dungeon setting. I hope we won’t have to wait too long for book 3.
The story thus far is very good, the only problem is the oh so many mistakes. Not just spelling, but also in the story itself. For instance “minks” and “skinks” maybe you catch it, maybe not. Irregularities that should have been caught during proofing and/or editing are way too many.
The story is amazing, quickly becoming one of my favorite LitRPGs. Only criticism is that there were many spelling, and grammatical errors that interrupted the flow of the story.
