Dr. Elizabeth Ramsey never imagined saving a patient would be so dangerous.
As a medical examiner, dead bodies are a part of her job. When a severely burned corpse with a sharp pair of fangs arrives on her autopsy table—alive—Beth discovers he is a creature the world doesn’t believe exists.
She faces an impossible choice: turn him over to be studied or nurse him back to health in secret.
Nursing him back to health, and searching for the cause of his affliction, will place her in the middle of a centuries-old feud between a powerful and ruthless ancient vampire and her patient.
Will her patient be grateful, or decide she’s lunch?
Will saving him cost her everything?
If you like strong female leads, sexy vampires, slow-burn romance, and a little mad science, this dark urban fantasy book is for you.
Hello! And welcome to my world. Bring your imagination and pull up a chair.
During the daylight hours I am a doctor, a pathologist to be specific, who enjoys looking at what makes all living things tick from the inside out. I grew up in Kansas next door to Toto and Dorothy, where I raised 3 children (all human) with my high school sweetheart. I have recently retired from 20-plus years of mainstream medicine, to explore what my imagination believes it could be.
When night falls and the moon rises, I can’t help but imagine and write about the science that would make what others believe to be mythical, well...real. Just because current science can’t explain them doesn’t mean they can’t exist.
So, look below the surface with me, indulge my inner mad scientist, and let’s have a little fun.
What I enjoyed the most was the way the story took a scientific approach to vampires and how they come to be, whether their healing abilities can be reproduced and if there could be a way to cure their need for blood and weakness to sunlight... And even though I don't know much about all the scientific terms that were used I could understand enough of what the FMC was doing to get a general idea of her path, so I think the author was really great in that aspect.
I also loved the way the FMC thought, and how she made plans and had contingencies in place in case of worst case scenario, seeing the contrast of her doubts and fear but still trying to power through was really enjoyable, and I liked her thought process.
If I have to say what part I was disappointed with, it was the romance... I really didn't feel their relationship, I can't even pinpoint exactly what part wasn't convincing... It wasn't the mostly insta love (I love to read about insta love), and they were kind to each other even though the circumstances were not the best... But I still couldn't find their love story believable.
The MMC was nice, he had quite the tragic story but he was doing his best to move forward. The antagonist was awful and I didn't like at all reading from his POV... Luckily the chapters had a title with the name of each every time the POV changed so I mentally prepared myself whenever I saw his.
I didn't enjoyed the cliffhanger, all the points introduced in this book were left completely unsolved... I would have liked at least one resolution. I don't know if I want to keep on reading the rest of the series, how long will it take to get answers?
POV: multiple Tropes: vampire/human, coroner FMC, nursing back to health, fast burn romance/low heat. Spice: there were no intimate scenes with the main leads, but there is spicy language and some superficially described scenes from the antagonist's POV. CW: death, blood, highly detailed autopsies, confinement, violence. The chapters with the antagonist's POV have the most CW, detailed attempted SA, drinking and completely draining a woman during an intimate scene.
What an incredible debut from Dr Battaglia! I was hooked from the very start.
Beth Ramsey is a pathologist in a seemingly sleepy midwestern town. Her life revolves around solving puzzles and when the most novel case comes across her autopsy table, she does what any curious scientist would do, throws her entire self into solving the mystery.
Along the way, she finds herself experiencing emotions she thought long dead. Luciano is an enigma, and a gorgeous one at that!
The romance isn’t the only slow burn here. A good portion of the book follows Dr Ramsey as she discovers the secrets hidden in Luciano’s very DNA. But don’t let that deter you, Battaglia keeps the suspense high so you have no choice but to keep turning the page. I felt like the author did a wonderful job mixing science into narration, making it easy to read for those without a science background but pulling enough real life science to make this a plausible yet compelling story.
This is a whole new take on the vampire genre and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into (sorry couldn’t help myself) the next chapter of Beth and Luc’s adventure!
The title alone caught my attention because it suggests something intelligent, dark, and layered. The book cover is beautiful in a way that feels mysterious and powerful. It gives the sense that this story is not just about vampires, but about the science and secrets behind them, which makes it even more intriguing.
From the description, I am genuinely fascinated. I love that the main character is a medical examiner, someone who is grounded in reality and facts, yet suddenly faced with something the world refuses to believe. The idea of a corpse with fangs waking up on her autopsy table is such a striking visual. It already sets the tone for tension, curiosity, and danger.
This story feels like it will deliver something gripping, bold, and deeply atmospheric. I am excited to continue and see how the conflict and relationship develop. The cover and description work together beautifully and set the tone perfectly.
Vampyre Hypothesis blends a medical examiner setting with a supernatural twist that hooked me right from the opening discovery: a corpse that isn’t entirely dead. The pacing is fast and engaging; I finished it in just over a day, including the short origin story of the villain, which added great context.
Beth was easy to relate to, and getting to know Luc was a slow, intriguing process that made me increasingly invested in both of them. Their growing connection: part protectiveness, part scientific curiosity, part something deeper, kept the story moving in a compelling way. I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing what’s ahead for them in the next book.
Overall, this was an immersive, well written read.
This was a different view on vampires. It is very medical based, but made easy for someone without a medical background to understand. You follow Beth as she goes to preform an autopsy and discovers her patient is “alive”. It doesn’t take her long to realize what he is and decides to take him home to let him heal and study him. I am looking forward to continuing this series.
Character motivations seem a bit off but this is an interesting take on a scientist approach to a vampire autopsy. Borrowed on April 14, 2025, kindle unlimited read with Alexia audio assist application.
I had a really hard time getting into this book. The villain was so cartoonish that it took me out of the story completely. And I wasn't feeling the romance at all. Since I only have so much free time I DNF this book and moved on.
This is a really interesting book. I enjoyed reading about the scientific parts quite a bit. There are scary parts and a bit of romance as well. I'm hoping there's more to this story.
Slightly ridiculous. The heroine is apparently book smart but with no common sense. It’s definitely a super-great idea to get turned into a vampire by someone you’ve known for like two days…

If you liked A Discovery or Witches, you will like this too. It is heavy on medical terminology but done in a believable, plausible and entertaining way. The plot is great. That pacing is fast, it is a relatively short book for its genre. I recommend reading if you like vampires and the medical world.
