Their biggest project isn’t the building—it’s each other.
Joy Holiday traded small-town life for a fast-paced city career a lifetime ago. She never intended to return to the dusty mining town her estranged mother called home. But when she inherits her mom’s crumbling building, she’s forced to confront the past she thought she’d left behind. The dilapidated structure symbolizes memories Joy would rather bury, and she plans to demolish it and move on for good—so she hires the guy with the best reputation in town.
Charlie Hunnicutt is a hometown boy who has spent years painstakingly restoring each historic building brick by brick. Unbeknownst to Joy, the town’s passionate preservationist sees nothing but potential in the old structure. It’s a treasure, a piece of the town’s soul worth saving. So when Joy, with demolition on her mind, sweeps into town in her sleek BMW, it’s all Charlie can do to keep his cool.
What should be a straightforward business transaction quickly turns into a battle of wills as the two butt heads at every turn. But while they clash over the building’s fate, an undeniable attraction begins to grow between them.
As their connection deepens, Joy and Charlie are forced to face their conflicting visions and decide whether love can bridge the gap between their worlds. Where history clashes with the future, love might just be the blueprint.

The Fixer is an entertaining novella in Fall River series. It's a quick read and features an enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy with wit, humor, and banter that had me laughing out loud. Charlie is incredibly frustrated thanks to one maddening big city girl. Just the sight of her gets him going in more ways than one. Joy just wants to leave it all behind and never look back, as it's a reminder of a past full of heartbreaking pain. But one irritating man is making it more difficult. Can these two find a middle ground? Will Charlie recognize her pain and help her through it, or will he walk away? This fun, slow-burn romance is full of chemistry and sizzling tension that is palpable. Grab a copy and get lost in the ups and downs, as well as the mayhem and madness that ensues. G.K.'s stories are fun, flirty, and sexy, making them a great way to retreat for some much needed "me" time.
Oh wow… this really had all the feels. It was well balanced and the characters moved through the transitions from dislike (‘enemies’ is a little strong) to grudging admiration to building attraction all the way to the black moment of separation and the eventual realization of love. Of the H/H Joy was the more real characters and also more ‘broken’ and thus she changed the most through the story (and I can personally empathize with the career ‘drive’ vs personal happiness conundrum). Charlie… whew, Charlie. The perfect mix of all-around good guy with a splash of cockiness thrown in. He knew when and how to challenge Joy (favorite line: “I don’t want to control you, Joy. Ever.”) but was also so cute the way he’d wonder why he was feeling a certain way. I also loved the side characters and Charlie’s dogs.
Joy Holiday arrives to meet Charlie Hunnicutt who is going to help her get her mothers state up to code so she can sell it and get back to her big city life. To say it does not go well, with the laid back appearance from Charlie and the fashionista look of Joy they butt heads immediately. Charlie would be happy to do the project by himself, but Joy is determined to do part of the work. Heads butt, feelings begin to arise and two people who never thought they would click start to build something special.
Delightful, a great opposite attracts - enemies to lover book. Slow burn that was paced wonderfully. Charlie has a past which he is still healing from and I thought Joy fit him perfectly after a few rough encounters, very fun read.

The Fixer, a book title that could be taken literally and figuratively where this book is concerned. The author brings us a story with love, hate, animosity, admiration, and so much more. With two very strongly independent main characters that constantly butt heads. An intriguing story that sucks the reader in from the get go. Making it a great story to navigate especially with the growth and self discovery displayed throughout. One I would definitely read again! Joy needs to deal with her mother’s estate. The quicker the better. Only one problem: the building her mother’s home and shop is in is protected by historical structure laws. So she can’t tear it down, but she can’t sell it without putting work into it as well. In comes the annoying contractor(not so much annoying but to Joy he is.) Charlie gives her the rundown, while trying to push for a full restoration. In the end, as much as she infuriates him, it’s her decision in the long run. As they get to know one another and peel back each other’s layers they realize maybe they were both too quick to judge. Charlie is loved in his small town and Joy is a nobody. A nobody who’s discovering who she truly is along the way. But what about the feelings that start to creep in? Neither wants to truly acknowledge the attraction to the other. Will that become a problem? Also what will Joy decide about the building? She was given options. She’s also had creeps trying to undermine her contractor in favor of them. Will they become a problem? If you like novels that are filled with self discovery as well as romance. This book is definitely for you!
GK Grady delivers a romance packed with tension and heart in *The Fixer*, the second book in the *Fall River* series. Joy and Charlie take center stage in this captivating slow-burn that keeps you hooked from start to finish. Their undeniable chemistry builds with every page, making their first kiss electrifying.
The story begins when Joy inherits an old house steeped in painful memories, and she’s determined to tear it down. Enter Charlie, the man she hires for the job—except he has other ideas. Charlie sees potential in the house and is equally determined to persuade Joy to restore it instead. As they clash over the future of the house, their simmering attraction and stubborn personalities make for an explosive dynamic.
GK Grady expertly crafts a slow-burn romance full of emotional depth and conflict, weaving together the personal stakes of the house with the undeniable pull between Joy and Charlie. *The Fixer* is an emotional rollercoaster, blending passion, tension, and heart, leaving readers completely enthralled with this intense, beautifully layered romance.
Oh. My. Goodness. The only thing that could have made this book better for me would have been for me to read the first one first (I am an ARC reader so I didn't even realize there WAS a first book but believe me, I'm on to that one now!) I am in love with the characters, as GK Brady brings them all to life in such a wonderful way. The cast, the situations they find themselves in, and the descriptions of each locale is so spot on and it leads me to perfectly formed images in my head.
I couldn't put it down and both started and finished it today! For those that want a fun, and hilarious, read from start to finish? This is for you! Note to readers though! -If you do not like a love interest where they completely battle things out on the day to day, this is not for you. It's perfectly depicted and made me laugh, so I still recommend!!
The Fixer is a great follow up to The Keeper, book one of the Fall River series. Charlie loves to restore old buildings and see them come alive again. Joy just wants to get rid of the one she inherited from her dead mother ASAP. They butt heads a lot in the beginning but eventually the chemistry takes over they begin to develop real feelings for each other.
I love Charlie, he is a real sweetheart of a guy. Joy is the prickly one but her painful past is the cause for all that and it takes Charlie and the kind-hearted people of Fall River to thaw the ice in her lonely heart. This wonderfully written story is warm and engaging with likable characters and an interesting plot that includes a bit of mystery. This book is a very enjoyable read.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I know I’ve said it before but dang it these Hunnicut brothers are delectable 🥰🤣😉
So Charlie owns the renovation/construction company in town and he’s heart is in preserving the i story of the town so when Joy wants to “demolish” her aunts shop he’s quick to try and save it but Joy is a tough but to crack and she sure has her own ideas 🤣🙈
Joy Holiday a city girl just wants to get her business done in Fall River , she inherited her moms run down store “ Crystal Harmony Haven” and let’s just say she has attitude with a capital A and at first her and Charlie are at loggerheads and I’ll be honest I didn’t like her at first but then my heart thaws a little hee I see how she reacts to Charlie’s dogs I believe you can tell slit by the way a person treats animals do be patient with our little diva 🥰😉she’s very different to her quirky mom but every household has its cross to bear and tough times …..
Their road to HEA wasn’t easy and they’ve got a lot to deal with and work through but again they’ve got a brilliant support system in friends and family . I enjoyed their tension , steam and banter almost as much as I enjoyed Noah and Hailey but each couple owns my heart in a different way now it’s up to Reece to see if he can take their place 🤩😉 ( I’m excited for his story)
- love the quote when you are opening the book " to men and women who make Colorado's small town tick" - this is giving Mr the small town vibes - it's a slow burn start but I am enjoying this story - this sentence made me laugh "where a dumbass flatlander had hiked a mountain without water, cold weather gear, or a GPS tracker. In other words, without a clue." - this sentence just made me laugh "Agitated as a bag of feral cats" - this gives me the small town vibes that I love seeing in books - love this nickname "little minx" - this story is soo good tha5 I just couldn't stop reading it as I was really enjoying it - I love Charlie - I want to continue on with this series
ARC review. The Fixer is the second book in G.K. Brady’s Fall River series. It’s a small town romance with Joy and Charlie butting heads from the minute they set eyes on each other. Joy is an uptown, career minded stubborn woman who battles daily with small town, historical minded and equally stubborn Charlie as they work together to get her dead mother’s house ready so she can settle the estate and get back to what is most important to her, her uptown lifestyle. Or is that really the life she wants? Brady’s detail oriented and slow building writing style makes the storyline flow and the pages turn as Joy and Charlie battle for their HEA.
Book 2 in the Fall River Series. This story stars Charlie and Joy. You can’t help but love and root for this couple. The story grabs you right away which I love. This couple go at it in the beginning but there’s the saying, the harder they fight - the harder they fall - something like that. lol. Charlie is kinda sweet but devilish and Joy has issues. She’s not going to be thought of as a fool. Great story.
Such a wonderful enemies to lovers novel! The characters are wonderful and deep. When the book started out I wasn’t too sure I would like it but by chapter 8 it was turning around and I couldn’t put it down! It’s written in such a way that it is relatable and believable. I also have to admit I did not read the first one and in fact I didn’t even know there was one that came before The Fixer until I looked it up to post this review. Can’t wait to read the next one!
Joy Holiday has gone to Fall Rivers Colorado to take care of her mother’s estate. She tried to block out this city and her mother and it’s all coming back to her and she doesn’t like it. When she arrives she meets Charlie the handsome contractor of Fall Rivers. However she doesn’t like anything he has to say about her mother’s shop because she wants to tear it down and be done with it. Charlie has let her know that unfortunately she won’t be able to tear it down due to it being a historical building. So she is now stuck in Fall Rivers even longer than she thought. Can Joy make this a quick trip or is she going to be in Fall Rivers longer while Charlie works on getting her mother’s shop into codes and up to its historical honor. But will she fall for Charlie along the way?
I'll admit, I didn't like Joy at first and could not imagine her with Charlie. But Fall River seems to bring out the best in people! The Fixer is not only a romance, but a mystery too, which was an unexpected surprise. I enjoyed getting to know Charlie better, after meeting him in the first book in the series. I absolutely adore him, and after getting to know Joy, realized they balance each other perfectly. I enjoyed their banter and watching them get to know each other. Looking forward to seeing more of them in the next book!
This is the second book in the Fall River series and an amazing read. We meet Joy who has inherited her mothers shop and all the bad memories that go with it so she wants to pull it down and rebuild but Charlie, the builder/restorer has other ideas. I loved the banter between the two and it isn't long before the feelings start to change. Could it be just what Joy needs to take her away from her fast paced life in the city. A twists and turns with plenty of drama but also a perfect ending. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
They have two very different ideas for the hose, he wants to fix it up. She wants to tear it down, hoping to bury all the memories it holds. They will butt heads over what to do? There is also an attraction between them. What will happen? What will happen to the house? Will she leave it all behind her? See how they get on I received an advance copy from hidden gems and I want to review
"The crazy urge to crash his mouth down on hers and show her control seized him.
“Woman, someday someone is going to tame that mouth of yours, and I hope I’m around to see it.”
It has been a while since reading a GK Brady book, and I was ecstatic to get to read an ARC of this one. Ms. Brady is a skilled writer. The story flows effortlessly, and the character development is gratifying.
The journey that Charlie and Joy travel to reach their happily ever after is a rollercoaster full of ups and downs. The way they clashed to the way the air charged when they were around each other was electrifying. The slow burn was so gratifying that when the first kiss takes place, it is nothing but hot. Don't even get me started with all "come heres." I about swooned every time Charlie used that phrase and crooked his finger. Joy's story is one of heartbreak, and I'm glad she had Charlie to help her process and heal from the trauma.
Overall, you'll love their story. Their bantering, their chemistry, their story.
I received a free copy of this book, and I voluntarily reviewed it.
The Fixer was book two in The Fall River Series, and it was about Charlie, book one’s MMC’s brother, and Joy, who inherits an old house, and wants to find someone to tear it down. Charlie, and the Hunnicutts, care very deeply about the history and attention their town gets, so he finds himself wanting to restore the house instead. I enjoy G. K. Brady’s novels, the dynamics between the characters, and the heart that goes into all of her novels. I look forward to reading more of this series.
Sometimes the second book in a series doesn’t quite live up to the hype of the first one. Well I am here to tell you that Charlie and Joy’s book is equally as amazing as Noah and Hailey’s. But to be truthful, I wasn’t really feeling that way at the start. I honestly wasn’t a fan of Joy. At all. Straight up I thought Charlie was better suited to just about anyone else than her. But as their story progresses and Joy slowly reveals her true self, I then began to soften in my opinion of her. When her past was revealed in an unexpected way my heart ached for her and I slowly came to the realization that Charlie was the lucky one in this new relationship. Their relationship is hands down one of the best slow burn romance novels that I have read in quite some time then when you add in the suspense and intrigue in this book I obviously cannot recommend this book enough.
If you like slow-burn, Small town romance, enemies to lovers, golden retriever MMC. Look no further than The Fixer. This book was everything I thought it would be and more. Then tension, the angst, the banter, the spice 🥵 It checked all the boxes. This was my first book by this author, but I look forward to reading more.
The second Fall River book gives us Charlie Hunnicitt and his newest Past Perfect Restoration project. When Joy’s mother passes, she must travel from her busy corporate centered life in Chicago to slow moving Fall River to take care of the business and Building left behind. Enter the best contractor in town and soon her and Charlie are squaring off. Despite their friction, we can all see that there is underlying sexual tension that is going to break them both. Great story of Joy facing the past and letting go, a little mystery around Charlie’s business and a whole lot of spice! The Hunnicitt brothers are all dreamy and don’t enter into relationships lightly. So glad to see Charlie find his perfect someone. Joy is closed off and still reeling from how she grew up but she finds safety and security in Charlie’s arms. Great read and looking forward to more from this quirky little mountain town.
Opposing ideas Charlie and Joy don’t see eye to eye, they definitely have different ideas on what should happen to her building. The banter is top notch, the push-pull between them is highly entertaining. With humour, angst, drama, steam, heartfelt moments, family and a few twists, this had my rapt attention. The characters are realistic, relatable and totally grabbed my heart. Another brilliant, small town romance from Ms Brady.
Joy left the past behind for 10 years when she left town and her mother. She successfully moved on. But her mother's death has brought her back to town and having to deal with Charlie regarding her mother's old shop.
Charlie and Joy are total opposites and don't get along. Soon though, it all begins to change. I was so invested in this book, I loved the back and forth and the chemistry was outstanding.
The Fixer is a great addition to this series. Charlie and Joy were complete opposites but the chemistry between these two was HOT! They butt heads so many times! Charlie was sexy, sweet, and just a well-rounded guy. Joy was grumpy and not easy to get to know. As the story progresses you begin to understand why. I loved this book, and I am really looking forward to the next book in this series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Charlie and Joy start out on the wrong foot -plenty of sparks, but not the good kind. But what if this small town with this dilapidated building is just what Joy needs to bring some joy to her life? Loved these two together and how they each grew as their story unfolded. I’ve really enjoyed the Fall River series so far and am very much looking forward to Reece and Neve’s story next.
Amazing opposites attraction romance! Joy inherit the family home and she wants to knock it down with all the bad memories. Charlie is a contractor who wants to rebuild Joy historic house. Enjoyed reading this story of banter and them bumping heads.
Charlie’s story, the second in never-disappoints author G. K. Brady’s Fall River series, is amazing. Charlie was kind of overlooked by me when I read the first book, The Keeper. Just the contractor/carpenter guy who can fix anything and who loves restoring historical everything to its past glory. With his long hair and what seemed like a quiet personality I almost felt a loner, mountain man vibe coming off him. A love ‘em and leave ‘em ladies’ man – he is a handsome Hunnicutt brother, after all – but not in a cruel or disrespectful way. He just sometimes enjoyed casual dating and never lacked for willing partners. A good guy, but I didn’t really think about what might lie underneath.
Well, let me tell you, there are many layers to Charlie. And they are all good and swoon worthy. He has big dreams and big passions. He isn’t just a contractor and carpenter. He’s a man with his own remodeling company who has the dream – and the vision and skill – to restore the entire town and have it declared a historical landmark. He has ideas for the big train project that could increase his company’s potential and visibility and draw tourists from all over to Fall River. Lone mountain man? No way. He’s a fixture in town, a very popular man with a large circle of friends. He is upbeat, positive, always looking on the bright side, full of joy. Until he meets the “Joy” that takes that away: Joy Holiday. The minute she slinks out of her fancy car and stalks over to him, he starts gnashing his teeth almost to nubs. She is rude, abrupt, disdainful, and worst of all, she wants to tear down the dilapidated building that begs for restoration and would be a historical treasure. But not only does she not care a bit about this town and its historical buildings, this particular building – her late mother’s store, Crystal Harmony Haven – brings back painful memories from her childhood, memories of being rejected, tormented, unwanted. She plans to do the bare minimum necessary to sell this hated reminder of her past, split the profit with her sister, and never think of or return to Fall River again.
Golden Retriever Charlie not only convinces Grumpy Joy to hire him to restore Crystal Harmony Haven but that rather than bare bones she should opt for the best possible restoration in order to secure a better selling price. They agree, become partners, and warily circle each other. He just wants to avoid her, except – he can’t also be attracted to her, can he? Nope, not possible, not someone so cold, edgy, just plain awful, not that rich, snooty, thoughtless woman. She just wants this to all be over so she can leave town and return to her real life, except – what is it about that Golden Retriever man? She refuses to be attracted to a man who is just probably one more dummy in a town full of dummies.
Except first impressions aren’t always necessarily right, are they? Charlie and Joy have so much to learn about each other: their dreams, their backgrounds, who they really are, and it’s so much fun watching them make these discoveries. It’s especially fun to watch the sparring.
Turns out Charlie isn’t just a dreamer with a hammer; he’s intelligent, ambitious and cares about family and the town and the people in it. And popular? Whoa – everywhere Charlie goes another branch of the Charlie Hunnicutt Fan Club pops up. And you’ll have to read The Fixer to learn the steamy, scorching, sweet details of how and why Joy starts to think of him as sometimes Golden Retriever and sometimes Wolf.
Joy isn’t just what she seems at first look, either. She wasn’t born with a silver spoon and has worked hard for her success. She has intentionally erected that ice wall to protect herself from more rejection and hurt. But cold on the inside? Guess who writes very sexy, very successful romance books on the side? And speaking of which – guess what formerly long-haired, now short-haired, still devastatingly handsome guy was a cover model?
Fall River is another G. K. Brady masterpiece. Serious topics, real feelings, surprises and pretty big reveals, a bit of danger and characters with depth all wrapped up in a well-plotted, smoothly moving story that not only has all of the above but is also heart-breaking and heart-warming, with redemption and forgiveness, and full of some of the funniest, wittiest, most amusing dialogue you would ever want to read. (And when this book comes out in audio run for your earbuds, because Brady’s books are meant to be listened to. I have listened to so many of Brady’s books I could happily hear it in my head. And I already have my favorite narrator picked out.)
Fall River is the perfect next story in this satisfying series. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it without hesitation. In fact, I recommend all of Brady’s books. Whatever one pops up for me, everything else in my TBR stack drops down a notch, and The Fixer was no exception. Thanks to the author for providing an advance copy of The Fixer as part of her review team. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I was under no obligation and voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.
