I loved Rylie's adventures and growth. I shipped Rylie and Luke from the very first book. While I liked this adventure. I hated the ending. For said last book for Rylie I'm disappointed. I feel like Rylie and Luke are left hanging like that. Yes they've ended up together but we only got one book with them together with no closure. I'm sad.

As Rylie & Luke return to their hometown of Big Mountain, it was not for a fun visit. Luke had gotten a call from his Aunt June's ex-boyfriend, Horace, that she was missing. His parents are on a cruise somewhere in the Caribbean. When Luke called the police, the person on the phone said no one had reported her missing but they would send someone over for a welfare check. They seem pretty disinterested in doing anything! As they enter Big Mountain, they see an enormous billboard featuring Mayor Thompson's beaming face. The slogan CLEANING UP BIG MOUNTAIN--ONE DRUG DEALER AT A TIME sprawled across it in bold red letters! Luke suddenly jerked the wheel as he saw a 3-legged deer with only one eye frozen in the headlights! They skidded off the pavement, plowing through the snow on the shoulder before stopping. They are stuck in a snowdrift on the side of the road & have no service on their cell phones. A police car pulls up & a former classmate, Jessica, climbs out & begins flirting with Luke. She tells them that there are no tow trucks available but she could give Luke a ride while Rylie waits for a tow truck. Rylie tells.Luke she has an idea & asks him if he has a screwdriver to deflate the tires with. She lets air out of the tires then gets behind the driver's seat while Luke pushes the back. Jessica declines to help because she doesn't want to get her uniform dirty!🤔 As they get cleared, Rylie gets out of the car. Luke grabs her in a big hug & gives her a kiss. Jessica is definitely not happy & gets into her cruiser. She then pulls up to the driver's side & rolls her window down. She tells Luke to give her a call & her number is the same!
As they pull into June's driveway, everything looks normal. Luke rings the doorbell 3 times then gets her hidden key from under the porch swing seat. As Luke turns on the light, they see the house has been completely ransacked! Luke goes upstairs & Rylie goes towards the back of the house. The house is strangely cold & she sees the back door wide open. As Luke goes down to search the basement, Rylie finds June's office a complete disaster. A handy painted floral lamp is broken on the floor & books had been ripped off the shelves. Rylie began snapping pictures. As she went into the bathroom that opened into the sunroom. The large picture window had been shattered& glass shards were strewn all over the floor! Obviously something has happened to June! Luke calls the police & tells then his aunt's house had been broken into.
What happened to June? Who would ransack her house, break the large picture window, & make such a mess? Unfortunately Jessica is the police officer who comes to investigate so they are not sure how well she will actually investigate!
This is the 12th book in this series; I’ve read the last half or so of the series, but still plan to go back and read the series from the beginning. This book stands alone surprisingly well, especially considering it’s the last book in the series, which makes me really sad. I love the main character, Rylie, and her boyfriend Luke. She’s at a crossroads with her job as Luke gets a call that his private investigator aunt is missing, back in their hometown. They travel to try to locate her and find several mysteries and tons of questionable people. It’s hard to determine the good people from the bad and there’s a bit of danger and suspense. The book is very well-written and I will miss Rylie a lot. I was provided an ARC, which I appreciate, but these opinions are my own.
This has been a journey through 12 books and this last story was exceptionally well done. The characters were intriguing, some loving, some sneaky and others downright mean criminals. I enjoyed the read and following the mystery of what happened to Aunt June and why she disappeared. Highly recommend this last book in the series. HEA for Rylie and Luke. No cheating, by anyone important, and no cliffhanger. Enjoy !
I've been waiting for this final book for quite a while now (after binging the series last year). However, I think I was just past this series, and when I read it I just didn't enjoy it as much as the previous books. I think my cosy mystery phase is over - and hello, Urban Fantasy! - as I wasn't all that interested in where the characters ended up, nor did I particularly enjoy the mystery. May try to reread this at some point in the future, but for now, it was a meh book.
The ending is no surprise, but there is plenty of action and excitement before you get there. Luke's aunt, a PI, is missing. He and Rylie go back to the mountains, their beginnings, to look for her. The more they investigate, the more tangled and dangerous it becomes. I have binged my way through tbe entire series. All the books are terrific. But you need to start at the beginning.
Wow how bittersweet to finish this series that I kind of stumbled upon without any expectations, seeing Riley and all the park rangers and Luke again for a last time was heartwarming and also quite sad.
The series ended on a bang though, even if its not in her usual park ranger setup, instead in big mountains helping Luke find his aunt, the mystery was still great and up to Rylie Cooper fashion!
I really got into reading this last adventure with Rylie Cooper. She helps Luke Hannah look for his Aunt who has mysteriously disappeared. It is fun to read about their adventure and what all they learn looking for Luke's Aunt. I like how the story unfolds and the characters ways of dealing with each thing as it comes up. There is slight innuendo and language in thi wonderfully told story.
Shattered is the 12th book in the Rylie Cooper Mystery series.
When Luke gets a call that his aunt has been missing for a few days. He and Rylie drop everything to go help find her. They wind up unraveling a major crime ring involving some of the town most influential citizens, while putting themselves in harms way while they are at it.
Developed characters, and a solid plotline.
I was sad to learn that this will be the last book in the series.
I can't say enough good things about this wonderful series. I feel heartbroken that the series is over and I won't have these amazing characters in my life anymore! I will be reading the spin-off series with Shayla Murphy.
Rylie and Luke head to their hometown to search for his missing aunt. Another great installment with Rylie that’s also bittersweet. Last one in the series! Oh, I hate those words. I will definitely miss Rylie and her s### magnet abilities!
