This book was a good read. It confused me a little at the beginning but once I got into it it was good. Madison had been through a very bad experience with her ex boyfriend so when it come to meeting Liam she didn't no how to trust his or express herself to him. After a trick part they both realised they needed each other and started fresh. xx

I have been wanting to read this since I saw the blitz the first time. I bought it back in May but haven’t had a spare spot on my calendar until now when I made room because it was on tour. The blurb sucked me in when I read it and I had to grab it.

It was a good story. I read it in one sitting, swiping the pages quickly to see what would happen next. Madison has been hurt, violated, and then humiliated and shamed by the people who should be supporting her. The only one who seemed to have her back was her best friend, Chloe.

We didn’t get to know Chloe well in this book, but I really wanted to reach through the pages and b*tch slap her. She drove me crazy. We knew that after what happened to Madison occured, she packed up and moved in with Chloe. At this point, they are roommates while going through their residencies in med school. She seemed like a pretty crappy friend to me honestly. (That doesn’t take away from the story at all, it adds a bit to it.)

Liam has his own issues, which I really wish that Christina had gone into more. I think that would have deepened my connection to him. That being said, he still seemed like a good guy who laid it all out there for her to begin with and Madison agreed.

I kind of wanted to grab her and say you agreed to this in the beginning when she started off on a tangent, then I remembered we are women, some of us tend to say and mean one things and then our hearts get involved.

All in all, it was a good story, I could have used a bit more in certain situations to connect more with the characters, but I did enjoy it. I have been hedging between 3.5 and 4 stars. I’m going with 4 because I did continuously read it, enjoyed the spicy scenes, and didn’t think that I really wanted to put it down. Just a little bit more emotion or something that would have connected me to the characters would have pushed it up to 5.

This book has some explicit sex scenes in it. If you do not like that sort of thing this book may not be for you. Maddison is a resident at a small local hospital. She lives on her own with her friend, Chloe,. Her father is a minister and he put her out when he found out she had nude pictures taken of her and put on the internet. It didn't matter that her ex, a friend of the family, had drugged her and taken the pictures, her father didn't believe her. Liam is also a resident at the same hospital. They see each other at a gathering of residents and she meets his gaze across the room. They are drawn to each other. He asks her if she wants to leave so they go to a local coffee shop. Maddie gets scared and runs out. Later she tells Liam how sorry she is and they start to see each other, but only sexually. Neither wants a relationship. As they start to get close, Liam decides he can't do this so he texts her and breaks it off. Maddie is heartbroken and becomes withdrawn. There is a lot more to this story as their relationship and problems develop. This is a good read

This book really surprised me. A friend told me it was a romance book for people who don't usually like romance and I sort of snorted at her!
But, I actually did enjoy it. There was really hot sex, but nothing that make me cringe or roll my eyes. I thought she did a great job of making the sex a part of bigger relationship, not just that sex equals love, but that becoming physical was an important part of Madison's healing.

I also LOVED that the characters were professionals with real jobs. Romances annoy the h*ll out of me because everyone's a millionaire or a starving waitress, and everyone can just take two weeks off to roll around a filed in Napa or whatever. I didn't think she could write a story about to career-people, meeting deadlines, getting up at 6am, and still have it realistically develop into an inspiring, exciting love story. What can I say, Jen, I was wrong. Let's go get that drink I promised you...

Madison Spencer is only focused on her life as a medical student. After a betrayal left her broken, she knows one thing for certain she doesn't want any form of a relationship with another man. When she meets Dr. Liam Mason though, she can't deny there is an undeniable attraction.

Liam is willing to play by Madison's rules and although in some respects he would like more, he has to focus on his own career. The more time they spend together the more something special is developing but will they both be strong enough to find out what it is?

Madison starts off in the book as broken when it comes to men and with Liam he is so adoringly patient she begins to look at her past from a slightly different perspective. There are a few empowering moments for Madison in the story that readers will love. Excellent read.

Christina Hoffman's debut book is about 2 people finding their ways through life, with no expectations and without any strings attached. Christina has woven a story involving likeable characters who are both goal-oriented and have futures. In other words, they are ordinary. They aren't into any fetish scenes, they aren't one person by day and another at night. This is an old-fashioned love story, at a time when readers are being flogged and whipped every night, in a tiring storyline before they close their eyes for sleep.
Christina's writing is eloquent in it's perfection. She is an author to follow and has an amazing future ahead of her as a literary story teller.

Great debut novel by Christina Hoffman. Her characters are real, with real life issues. I just love Liam, we all need someone like him in our lives. And Madison is smart, and full of self doubt. With a some great hot scenes and some kindle throwing moments, I would recommend this sweet story.

(Original post at Doing Some Reading)

This is my first book by Christina Hoffman and I really enjoyed it. First off, I really liked the fact that Christina put a disclaimer at the beginning of the book about what we were getting ourselves into and of the reasons why certain precautions were heeded, if I’m making any sense:

“…In the interests of the story, I have left safe sex practices out of the lives of these characters. In your own life, though, please remember to always protect yourself and others when enjoying intimate company.“

–Christina Hoffman

I know many readers that get turned off by the “no protection” side of safe sex so I really liked that she added that at the beginning, but if you didn’t read the first couple of pages, eg. the dedications and table of contents, then you may have missed it. So it’s always good to read everything so that you know what’s up and not make a fool of yourself while reading and reviewing a book.

But yes, Invitation. As the blurb says there are many boundaries that is holding Madison back. Having been through a very traumatic relationship she can’t imagine going through another relationship ever again. She has shut herself to the people around her, most definitely to the opposite sex and hides behind the quiet plain Jane facade using her smarts to mask her once passionate personality. She’s actually really nice and is just trying to get her life back together slowly at a time. With her panic attacks when she’s around men, that would make it difficult but with her friend always looking after her she has nothing to worry about. That is once she spots Liam, it made things even more difficult because she knows she’s attracted to him and I love it that she didn’t push him away. But then she has insecurities that is holding her from truly being herself but with Liam, he brings out the best in her and make her feel at ease so they fit perfectly.

And Liam, ahhh Liam Hemsworth….. Okay not Liam Hemsworth but that’s who I pictured when I read Liam…… But yes, Liam Mason, he’s just amazing! He kept me smiling right for the beginning because he was so clumsy. Not in person but in how he was trying to pick Madison up, flirt with her, that I knew I was going to really like him. I also loved that he gave her time and cared for her personally and didn’t let Madison’s overreactions get to him or stop him from liking her. He’s also very forward in what he says, a good thing because we don’t have to try to figure him out but can also be off putting for others. And despite him not being sure about a serious relationship he was great and I couldn’t dislike him. Plus, he saw through her disguise of being the plain ugly Jane so that definitely says something about him.

I just got to say I really love how Christina pushed us right into the romance from the start. Well, not the romance but the intense attraction that Madison has for this Liam dude. It really made everything go quick and moving that I couldn’t help but smile right along as I read. The witty dialogue the two of them have were fabulously written and got me aww-ing. Gosh they were just too cute! I’m talking about the conversations so that has to say something about Christina’s writing!

So yes, I really like how Christina wrote this story. It’s in first POV from Madison which I don’t mind at all, with only the exception that I really wanted to be in Liam’s head but it worked just fine without his POV because it made him even more heart stoppingly gorgeous and mysterious but still, am I asking for too much? Anyways, how she wrote this just really engaged me. I felt like we were having a conversation of sorts and Madison was telling me all her secrets and love story. Plus, it made me think of how I sometimes write and talk to myself. Hahaha I know, weird and funny but this way of writing really connected with me and I really enjoyed it.

The sex and how it went about was absolutely fine. I love how they went at it slow and then build it up once Madison was starting to relax. I also loved that Liam gave her control so that she could stop when she wanted and understood that I may take her awhile to trust him with the control. Do I need to say any more? Christina can really write sexy sex scenes I’ll tell you that.

The only thing that kind of bothered me were how short the chapters were and how quick they got together! Especially for Madison. I felt like sometimes the many chapters weren’t needed to give that break inbetween the changes in scenery. I felt like a break space or the star signs could have done the job just fine to indicate a change of scenes. As for how fast they got together, it was quick. It may seem like it has been a while for the two in the story but they barely knew eachother other than having this strong attraction and working at the same place, but maybe it’s just me.

All in all, do I recommend this? Heck yes I recommend this! It’s a short read under 200 pages so that’s pretty amazing. Its sweet and loving dialogue will keep you engaged and smiling throughout the entire book and making you root for Liam and Madison’s romance. Of course you can always just root for Liam….. Heeheehee

Oh wow!!! Christina Hoffman's sensuous romance Invitation, is the Bomb! I love it when authors use realistic characters in their stories. The hero and heroine are not your typical NAR pair of superlative beings. The issues in their past don't just lend themselves to one break up to make up session. No, Christina's brilliance outlined the true and continual struggles manifested in the relationship of the flawed. But for every personality defect Madison Spencer and Liam Mason exuded, there is an effervescent quality gleaming through them that draws you in and forces you to root for their happiness. Let me tell you why.......

For the pass two years, Madison has worked hard to sequester her social life. From her frumpy shapeless clothing, to her quiet standoffish demeanor, she believes living this way will keep her safe from the iniquitous, male species. Fear guides her daily and as much as she wants to close herself off from everything to be a hermit, she is currently in medical school and beginning her residency. Madison truly believes having a romantic interlude will not occur in her lifetime but then she see's him, and every cell in her body awakens forcing her to rethink this whole "no social life" existence. As hard as she tries, she just can't help but be drawn by Liam's magnetism. Amazingly, she takes a chance and goes out with him, noticing how comfortable and relaxed she is with him impels her to attempt to experience more. And when she does, she finds new life with a world of possibilities. Liam can't seem to get enough of Madison and that scares him! He plans to have a successful medical career without the depressing long term entanglement. So he decides to have fun with his gorgeous colleague. He accepts Madison regardless of what she's been through and their cohesiveness can't be denied. But as manly as this sexy hunk appears, uncertainty riddles his mind when it comes to relationships and he begins to fear he's in to deep. These two have a long road ahead of them and it seems neither one will ever commit.

This steamy romance honestly displays the emotional hardship found in new relationships between two people who's carrying a lot of baggage. In the midst of their struggles life inundates them with difficult supervisors in a high pressure work environment and much much more. You will love every page of this book. I plan to read this one over and over again. My only issue is the editing, ergo the 4.8 rating, although the errors had no bearing on this beautiful story. So enjoy!!!

An easy 4.5 stars for Invitation.

I have to say the synopsis to Invitation grabbed me straight away and I knew it was a book that I wanted to read.

I settled down to start this book this morning and that was it, I was shocked to find I really didn't want to put it down. I love it when a book grabs me like this, I felt it was going to be good, I didn't expect it be as good as it was. This is a great debut novel from Christina Hoffman.

If you're like me and like an emotional pull on top of steamy romance then read this book. Maddie had gone through an horrific event, one that left her reeling and running from her childhood home. What happened that night and what happened next, well, it gutted me. Christina wrote the events and the emotions of the aftermath flippin brilliantly and I so was under Maddie's skin understanding her quiet ways, her need to hide and her reluctance to let anyone in. I thought how her friendship was handled with Chloe was also spot on and perfectly written, I was 100% behind Maddie and her choices.

Liam, oh my Dr Mason is a complete dish, suave, fun, sexy as hell and damn good in bed! I was routing for him and then he made me so cross! I could have kicked him in his nether regions for being a total ass!

You not only get these two characters though you get several sideline stories, Owen, grrrrr is all I can say! What he did - string him up and again Christina through a different case scenario in that area of the book and I loved it! Great way to take this part of the story.

Then there's Alex, I beg anyone to not be affected by Alex!

To summarize, Christina has penned not just an erotic romance, it is also full of great characters, has depth, very dimensional and jaunts along at a great pace. With a really interesting storyline that backs up the two leads perfectly.

I will definitely be reading more from the pen of Christina Hoffman after this. I received a copy of Invitation in return for an honest review. My reviews are my own and are 100% honest.

In her debut novel, Invitation, author Christina Hoffman weaves a sweet and sassy love story about two ordinary people dealing with real life issues, who meet and are attracted to each other. What starts out as a lighthearted relationship based on fun and no commitments, slowly becomes something more. But painful past baggage, fear of commitment, and lack of trust stands in the way ... can they be strong enough to risk their hearts and take a chance on love?

Madison Spencer is a medical student with a painful past that took away her passion and spirit, causing her to live a lonely life behind the facade of a plain Jane, solely focused only on her medical career.

Dr. Liam Mason is dedicated to his medical career, he isn't looking for love, he prefers lighthearted fun relationships without commitments.

When Madison and Liam meet there is instant attraction .. can a lighthearted, fun, and carefree relationship full of passion and pleasure turn into something more for two hesitant and relationship-commitment wary lovers?

Invitation is a wonderful love story full of romance, passion, fun, angst, pain, fear, and self-doubt. The reader is easy drawn into Madison and Liam's story. There is an emotional pull and depth to the storyline that the reader can easily relate to and embrace. What more could a reader ask for then to have two realistic and flawed characters on an emotional journey filled with passion and drama? The romance and real life issues are cleverly interwoven throughout the story, add in some very steamy but not overly done sex scenes that will make you blush and sigh, and what you get is a thoroughly enjoyable and classic love story.

Invitation is a beautifully written contemporary romance novel that is sure to leave a smile on your face.

Title: The Invitation

Series: N/A

Author: Christina Hoffman

Genre: Contemporary

Blurb: Who says Heat can't be Sweet? Welcome to the World of Smart and Sexy -- Contemporary Romances with passion and heart. Can the love of a good man bring you back to life? Dr. Liam Mason wants to try...Madison Spencer is a focused medical student, concerned only with work and paying the bills. She hides her beauty and once passionate spirit behind a quiet plain Jane facade. Since she was drugged, stripped, and photographed by a vengeful ex, she has stayed away from men and kept her heart and body safe. But the loneliness is becoming more than she can bear. When heart-stoppingly gorgeous Dr. Liam Mason walks into her world, she knows she's in trouble. The attraction is instant, but Madison expects her past to be a deal-breaker. Instead, Liam offers to bring her back to life with passion and pleasure. No love, no commitment, just straight-up fun. Madison's sensible mind resists, but her body is willing. Together the young doctors explore days and nights of pleasure, slowly becoming much more than bedmates. Deep inside, each wonders if they've found their perfect match. But their fears threaten to destroy the world they're building together.
Will they each be strong enough and brave enough to risk their hearts to have it all?

Thoughts: While this novel was put forth as a contemporary novel, for me it read much more like a New Adult (NA) novel - not so much in topic, but in the way it was written and the immaturity level of the characters. For those reasons - especially in the beginning - it just kind of gave me that impression. I had a hard time connecting with the characters and really getting into the story overall. For me, it didn't draw me in, didn't have me anxious to fly through those pages, and didn't really have me emotionally caught up or invested in the story. It just fell in as one of those okay titles.

Invitation
Christina Hoffman
This story was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review.
Studying to be a nurse takes up all of Madison Spencer's time. She studies hard and is working hard at school. And since the incident a few years ago with an ex-boyfriend she dresses in loose baggy clothes and avoids all interaction with the opposite sex. Her best friend and roommate Chloe is all that she has. Until she sees Liam. She is instantly attracted to him and finds herself feeling things that she never thought to feel again.
Dr. Liam Nelson works at the hospital where Madison is studying and they end up spending alot of time together. He starts a relationship with her that is supposed to be based soley on fun and living. There will be no other expectations, just to enjoy each day. He kisses her and they enjoy each other. He lets her take charge of the relationship and allows her to set the pace for the kissing and whatever comes next. It is exactly what she needs to regain her confidence in herself and the male species.
She tells him her deepest secrets and he continues to love her. She grows through her work at the hospital learning things both on a medical and personal level. It is great to see her finally open up after her devatating crisis and finally start reliving her life. Her insecurities do threaten to come up and interfere in her life and you must read the story to see how this plays out.
I thought this was a beautifuly love story. It was simply written and very easy to read. It was believable and had me eagerly turning the pages. There was lots of loving and the sex scenes were well done and not overdone. These characters were deep and their relationship was built on more than just sex. When they experience problems I found myself crying with them and hoping for a happy ever after ending. I really enjoyed all aspects of this story and would love to read more from this author. I would rate this story a solid 5/5.

For a debut novel, I cannot fault this story!!
This is not just a sweet romance with lots of erotic scenes included, it is a journey of self discovery.
Maddison had suffered at the hands of her ex-boyfriend & gone through something no one should ever be subjected to. With what she believes is her supportive best friend, she has spent the last couple of years barely existing. The she meets Dr Liam Mason!
Liam slowly draws Maddie out of her shell & helps her along her road of not just self discovery but sexual self discovery.
They do suffer a couple of set backs along the way & they work hard to get through them, but with Maddie's trust issues it does take a lot of work.
I wanted to string Maddie's father up by the toes (or another part of his anatomy!!) & beat some sense into him and as for Maddie's bestie Chloe, well I wouldn't wish her type of friendship on anyone!!
Christina also highlighted a lot if the realities of being a medical intern & what goes on it the work place perfectly!!
I could go on & on about how much I loved this book but it will start to spoil the story for those that have not yet had the pleasure of meeting Liam & Maddie!!
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a combination of romance, angst, steam, & a once in a lifetime love!!

I really enjoyed reading this! It's a great girl meets boy novel full of lust, and times of sadness. Madison met Liam and they were immediately attracted to each other and they happen to work with each other which is always a plus! I got to hand it to Christina this was a very well written debut book, if there was any spelling or grammar errors I never caught them because I was too caught up in the book!

Two people trying to make something of themselves In the medical field, and they find each other and know things will no longer be the same. I was on the verge of tears when Liam left, I was also so mad! He frustrated me at times! I really felt for Maddie. And i also wanted to choke Owen.
Overall this was a great debut read and I am REALLY looking forward to seeing what's next for this great author!

So you know when you've been dying to read a certain book that you just want to have it in your hands right then and there. You get so excited because it looks so interesting and delicious that if it were a cupcake you wish you'd stare at its beauty forever and want to devour it at the same time.

That's what I thought about Invitation. As soon as I read the blurb I've wanted to read it. But of course the wait was slowly killing me, and then it was there. I was so thrilled to start it because it really sounded so, so good. Unfortunately it was not what I expected. I kept reading hoping it would somehow pick up but the story felt flat to me. The characters had so little substance you could barely see it. But I finished it and was okay enough. Another one to the expect-the-unexpected bin. Sigh.

Finally, an indie romance that looks and reads like it came from a real publisher. This book has a great story that is told well. The writing is really good.

I really liked learning about the lives of the young doctors. She either is one, or did a lot of research.

I particularly liked that it was "sexually accurate"(re: hot), but that it didn't treat women like crap in order to make the sex great. I hope this is the start of a trend away from all the BDSM stuff which seriously just reads as abuse and humiliation to me.

I hope she writes a hundred more of these.
By the way, we're not related-- total coincidence.

This is a strong debut novel! I expect to see more from you, Christina Hoffman!

This book has a ton going for it that I love:

Likable characters that you feel like you know - check
Real people - check
Swoon worthy hero - check
Hot sexy time - check, check, check

It takes talent to take everyday, normal people and create compelling characters from them. These are characters you feel like you are invested in and want to see where the future takes them.

It's not an angsty, earth shattering book. It is however a thoroughly enjoyable, well-written book that is worth your time!

Go check it out!

This book really took me by surprise. I expected the typical contemporary romance that I have come to know. A whole lot kinky with a rich man and up and coming young girl. This is not what you get! I loved it. Two real life characters with real life jobs and problems. Yes there is a past that haunts Madison, but its not quite as intense as what most are. Instead we meet Liam a doctor who is willing to help Madison heal with no strings attached. It's a great read and one that I highly recommend. A fresh breath on romance with some very steamy sex scenes.

A sweet love story!

I loved Invitation written by Christina Hoffman.

Invitation is about a women who is an intern in medical school. Madison Spencer had an awful experience in her past and never thought she would trust or could fall in love with another man.

Well she meets Liam Mason at the hospital and she feels reborn and willing to give him a chance.

You will love these strong and interesting characters and their story as much as I did.

I give Invitation 5 stars for an addicting and steamy read!

I enjoyed this book. The characters are real, flawed, just like a lot of us. They have their issues, they struggle through real life. Liam is a dream, even though he messes up here and there just like we all do. This was an easy read and I look forward to more from Christina Hoffman.

Nope.

I made to page 30. I physically couldn't flip to the next page. I didn't run across one character out of this she book that was worth me reading any further. It wasn't just the characters either. It was th writing. Sluggish, clinical. So sorry for the negative.
