There were a bunch of lessons a girl could learn from the story of Snow White. Some were valid in the real world, others… not so much.
For instance, no matter how often I sang Taylor Swift off-key, birds and forest animals weren’t ever coming to clean my apartment.
You could live with seven men and not end up in a free-for-all festival of fluids.
But I seemed to have forgotten the most valuable lesson my girl Snow taught us: don’t take apples from strangers.
It was a lesson I’d disregarded, and would later pay for dearly. I mean, there were definitely silver linings, but the world as I knew it was over as soon as I took a bite of that apple.
This is Book 2 of the Hanging By A Thread Duet. It is a why choose, paranormal romance, and contains pregnancy, monsters, mythology and margaritas.
When I was nine, my grandmother and her friends used to read and swap Harlequin Mills and Boons novels. When I was busted reading one, they started sneaking me boxes full of strong heroines and rugged men. Thus started a long love affair with the romance genre. Then I discovered urban fantasy, and fell in love with broody Alphas and sexy paranormals, and combining them together was a no brainer. Then I discovered Reverse Harem.... Oh my. Why choose, am I right?
I really loved this. I loved the mash up of pantheons, and the way their family and friends ended up being a kind of Switzerland - good, compassionate Mythics regardless of pantheon were all welcomed in their home. And I really loved the journey the FMC had to take to fight for her HEA. And the epilogue was just lovely, a wonderful coda for the duology.
A fun, fast RH. It's a big harem - 7 guys - so none are as well developed as I'd personally prefer, but in the end the story was just so delightful I had to give it 5 stars. I know I'll read this one again.
I feel like I just lived an entire life through this duet
When I read the first book in this duet, I thought "Holy cow this is fantastic, I don't think I've laughed this hard in a long time." I was so drawn into Wren's story. But this second book....I didn't just get drawn into a story, it was like getting to live an entire life through Wren. How Grace Mcginty fit that much plot into less than 300 pages in a way that was beautiful, well paced and felt so complete....it's magic. All this to say, that I am so freaking happy I purchased this book so I can have it forever. Wren and her men went through hell for their HEA, but they showed that love and perseverance and friends in high places can make all the difference.
Honestly my review isn't even doing the duet justice, just read it.
Interesting world, but once again, all the relationships were very shallow, and she didn't even sleep with some of her harem until a significant portion of the book had passed. All of their hardships weren't really that taxing and most were solved with deux ex machina plot devices. I didn't feel like the FMC was really that "good" to justify the results of her weighing.
A quick read, but ultimately not something for me to revisit.
I actually quite enjoyed this duet and hope to have a sequel for the kiddos (though I hope they get their own harems but I'd be OK with a co-harem with all of them).
To really connect with all the important characters and their relationships, wasn’t really possible in these two books, but I have to admire how McGinty wrote it entertaining enough to want to finish it. I was a bit worried about the first book ending with a new addition to the harem, but he wasn’t badly included. Though it was difficult to really see them all as a harem and not blips on the relationship-radar whenever their pov came around (or their name was written in a situation). I also have to admire how McGinty included so many mythical creatures into the books. It could have easily been too many, but honestly I was wondering how much better the books might have been if it’d been a more slow-burn, add to the harem, series where stuff happened, but just more in-depth so you could connect better with the characters and also their storyline. Wouldn’t have minded a little side-step in the Hades/Sephy harem, or the God of Death and Fea, for example. But alas, that isn’t what happened and we have to do it with this.
I am of the opinion that the books should’ve been written as 1. Might have been an unusually thick book, but i’d rather have liked that than the ending of book 1 and beginning of book 2. There’s no natural closure or opening to really have need for the stories to be separate.
It entertained me, though it didn’t blow me away. If you’re looking for an easy and fun read with not too much depth, but also not too superficial, then this is for you. You also might need a love for fantasy, the mystical and maybe even history? ;)
I enjoyed this duet more than I anticipated. I agree with the more critical reviewers regarding the lack of character depth and the insta love but I found the plot to be interesting enough to keep me engaged.
This book kinda felt like that same with book 1. It felt lacking.
Even with the "Weighing" and all the gods etc of Death I would have liked to see more from that.
Now don't get me wrong, I love that the gates were boys. I love that it was different. I also loved the weighing in the sense that there were more than lucifer and hades.
I just still didn't understand most of the relationships with the guys. Needed more.
I still have the same feelings as my review for the first one, but surprise there's now EIGHT OF THEM. Also I'm not sure what happened to my copy of this, but the major event was smack bang in the middle of a random chapter? It went from them talking to the next line being her fighting for her life with no explanation or anything. I think printing error maybe. I was VERY confused and still am. I enjoyed the last part of the book the most!
I was disappointed with this read. The story was not bad, but the characters felt shallow, not fully developed. I liked the mixing and interactions among pantheons, but there were inconsistencies, some of which were particularly annoying if not insulting. I want to say it was a good try, but it didn't quite make it.
Both books were seriously lacking for me. No substance, there wasn’t any time for the characters to get to know each other, it was rushed and just empty. I skimmed most of this book because I just didn’t care about any of the characters. It was almost like there were too many characters! Every chapter you meeting someone new. It wasn’t for me.
"She completed a part of me that I hadn't even known was empty."
A Single Thread of Hope is the second novel in the adult why choose fantasy romance duology, Hanging by a Thread. The story continues right after the events of book one. The first battle has been won but a greater threat looms as the fates continue to seek out Wren to end her life and the lives of her three unborn children. With her mates around her, Wren must find balance amongst the different pantheons to build alliances that will protect everything she cares for...
This is a fun quick read that takes you on quite the adventure.
Wren was already a likeable character in this instalment and I liked seeing more character growth to her as she embraces motherhood and builds further connections to her partners. At certain points she has no one else she can turn to and I felt these were moments I could see her as resilient and strong. She may have been dealt a bad hand and the punches don't stop but she refuses to let that be the reason she falls down. She is 8/9 months pregnant and is not a woman to mess with.
While we met the majority of her mates in the past book there was another introduced that surprised me. I'm not saying his name for spoilers but I really appreciated how much time we got with him to better see him. He is a companion and support, not just a lover. He is there for her at her darkest time and I felt he was able to give her boost she needed without taking over.
Teron, Nate, Milo, Erus, Tryp, and Demke continue to be amazing mates. I loved how much they support Wren and the reactions to her struggles really stuck with me.
I also wanted to shout out the side characters. I don't want to spoil them but various gods and creatures come to Wren and her mates' aid and I loved the banter and camaraderie they provide. It made this story feel emotional and like a family.
In terms of spice I would give this a 5 spicy peppers out of 5 spicy peppers, not because there is lots of spice but because there are group scenes. I would say we get about 5 spicy scenes that I remember clearly and I felt they fit the story's journey well as they try to connect during moments of tension or when the tension just passed. There is spice with the new mate, some fun pampering of Wren while she is pregnant, and a very fun group scene with everyone joining it. It is explicit and detailed.
"Did you just summon us a bed?" "Making love to you, under the moon, on a bed of flowers, is the very least you deserve."
The story itself had good structure and kept me on my toes as Wren is trying to come to grips with her mates, make alliances, protect her babies, and also deal with the fates that are out to get her. I liked having a plot twist that I wasn't expecting that gave us a chance to explore Wren some more. We also meet new characters, explore new places in the world, and open up more back stories. I felt I got to really understand the world of the story more...and when the meaning of the title clicked! This book will put you on an emotional journey of highs and lows but it is so worth it! I really enjoyed the epilogue at the end as it gave us the HEA I needed after the whirlwind we went through.
Overall, an excellent conclusion to this crazy adventure!
Genre: Paranormal Reverse Harem Relationship(s): MMFMMMMM Romance: Fast Burn 🔥🔥🔥🔥 POV: Multiple, first person Platform: Kindle Unlimited Length: 283 pages Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️ Darkness: 🖤 Series/Standalone: Hanging by a Thread Duet, book two Cliffhanger: No Themes/Tropes: Friends-to-lovers, Mythological Creatures, Gods, Goddesses, The Wheel, Mythology, Greek, Celtic, Norse, Egyptian, Impregnated by Fruit, Magic, Battles, Pregnancy, Prophecy, Mates Check Triggers⚠️: No
This duet reads like a tapestry of myths woven together, blending threads of familiar tales in intriguing new ways. Wren, embodies a unique blend of characters—her kindness is her most striking trait, and she feels like a cross between Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. While her role in the story isn’t as distinct as one might hope, she anchors a journey filled with Celtic and Greek mythological elements, keeping readers guessing and slightly off-balance as the narrative twists.
The plot unfolds like an unexpected adventure; you’re never entirely sure where the author is leading, which adds to the thrill. However, discussing the details is challenging without giving away the journey itself, and both books hold their surprises close. The story is engaging, yet it left me with a lingering sense of wanting—perhaps more depth, or a richer connection with Wren.
Throughout, Wren encounters an ensemble of mates and allies, including Nèit, Milo, Tryp, Erus, Demke, Teron, Griff, and Cy, as well as other friends who add texture to her path. Overall, it’s a fascinating read, and while it may not fully satisfy, it certainly captivates.
I enjoyed this duology a lot. The fmc is funny, relatable, and a closet badass. The mmcs are awesome, and all their own individual characters; a feat that's surprisingly difficult to pull off with a harem type story. The plot is clear and focused, full of action, pathos, and a healthy abundance of humor. The writing is clean and easy to follow, with some surprisingly poignant one-liners.
**Mild SPOILERS Below**
I give this 3.5/5 stars mostly because I wish this wasn't a RH. We spend so much time in Book 1 with Nate, it felt a little awkward to me once the other mmcs were introduced. It didn't help that Nate was sort of the odd-man out, being the only Norse mythic and not part of the Crete friend group. It was still a good story, I just personally think it would have been better if the mmcs other bonds were platonic, and we got to focus on Nate x Wren instead.
I will say that, by the end of Book 2, I really was enjoying the romantic development between the fmc and some of the other mmcs. There was some especially nice chemistry between Wren and Demke there at the end. And Milo is just an adorable cinnamon roll who deserves everything.
Overall, I would say this is a fun palate cleanser or just an enjoyable anytime light read. Definitely worth a shot if you're on the fence about it.
A Single Thread of Hope, written by Grace McGinty, is the second book in the Hanging by a Thread duet. This book picks up immediately after the first book ends so make sure you read it first before jumping in to this story.
Format: KU ebook Genre: Fantasy Romance Overall score:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice level:🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Characters: *Wren (FMC) *Nate (MMC) Ancient God of War *Tryp (MMC) Genii *Erus (MMC) Genii *Demke (MMC) Minoan God of Renewal *Teron (MMC) Gryphon *Milo (MMC) Minotaur *Cy (MMC) Dog shifter DemiGod
This is a great conclusion to the Hanging by a Thread duet! While there are some sad scenes in this book, I enjoyed how the characters came together to protect the FMC and their children.
The scene with Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus was written perfectly!!!
Mixing the old and the new to create something wonderful. It’s a very well written story, which clearly involved a lot of research. Bizarrely for once the gender reversal of a traditional role didn’t come across as too contrived, a welcome relief.
Minor Spoilers?? It would have been nice to see some sort of mention about her parents near the end of the book but that didn’t happen. In a weird way it’s nice to see that an earthquake was mentioned in the story as it’s such a common occurrence over there, the locals don’t really make a big deal about it unless it’s one that has visible results.
Overall it’s a great read and has probably made it onto my must buy list. Definitely recommend.
This was an absolutely beautiful ending to this story! Both heartbreakingly beautiful at times and pure laughter at others and a whole lot of love! I'm absolutely in love with anything that Grace writes. I wasn't sure I was going to like this story as I'm not a big fan of the pregnancy trope but once again Grace showed her incredible talent and made a beautiful book. She gelled two of my favourite things Mythology and why choose/reverse harem, what more could a girl want!!!
I absolutely loved this duo!! Ms. McGinty did such an amazing job bringing all the different mythologies together and creating a world I just didn’t want to leave. And yes, Wren and her men were all wonderful characters but so were everyone else. I was once again wanting stories about so many different characters that we met along the way. I couldn’t put this book down. I want more. Can’t wait for whatever Ms Grace puts out next. Love love love!!!!!
The wait leading up to this release felt like wading through molasses, but I am so so so so thrilled with how this duet wrapped up! Wren and her guys are something otherworldly special, and I loved how each bond relationship blossomed. The guys were all absolute aces, and the chemistry was sizzling off the pages. The epilogue was incredible, and everything that happened you know where had me on the edge of my seat and often kicking my feet and shrieking. I already knew this, but Grace truly can never disappoint me. She’s got a fan for life over here.
Too many characters, too much insta love. Again, McGinty has a gift for telling stories. I enjoyed the concept, it was interesting and genuinely novel. But the execution failed. She just glided over the surface of most of the relationships, chunks of the plot were rushed and incomplete, the benevolent gods spoke with near identical voices. We never got to really understand why Wren was so special, unless McGinty decided that she'd make it super arbitrary because that's what gods are prone to, especially the Greek ones.
I really enjoyed the mix of the many religious myths. There is snark and love and spice. Definitely had funny lines and great imagery. This is a second book, and the first inspired me to immediately reach for book two. I thought the main female character was a little two-dimensional compared to the gods, goddesses, and other mythic characters, but she was human, so 🤷 . I was hoping for more spice, but the really spicy scenes are left to your imagination. I laughed, I mourned, and I feel like you will enjoy this book.
3.5 stars. This duet was really fun, although I liked the first book more than the second. The story was really fresh and unique, and I enjoyed all of the characters. However, there were soo many characters that it was tough to keep them straight, and there was no depth to all of the relationships. This was next-level instalove that killed any possible tension and dragged the story down. It also didn’t feel balanced in how Wren’s relationships played out between each of the guys. I enjoyed reading these books, but I wouldn’t come back to them
Wren and her men's story is wrapped up beautifully. Surprises are unfolded, battles fought, and all the deaths are faced. (IYKYK) IT would be lovely to see how the Fates fare in the future. Spice is top notch Suspense is there Love is there in spades. Not just between Wren and her men, but the familial bonds are just as poignant. Highly recommend this duet to everyone.
I’m WAY behind on posting this and I blame release month madness for it, but I wanted to stop everything and take a moment to tell everyone (again) about this absolute GEM of an author. Her most recent duet is, in its entirety, an action packed, hilarious, sweet and spicy journey with excellent banter, spice that is SPICIN’, and the caliber of writing that I’ve come to count on from one of my favorite authors. If you haven’t added her entire catalog to your tbr yet, what are you waiting for?
For a Grace McGinty duet, this was a bit light, I guess. Light on the intimate scenes, light on the trauma (only 2 deaths on paper), one battle, so yeah, most RH fans will probably enjoy this. Pregnant FMC for most of book 1, multiple POVs, 7 harem members (8 if u count Griff), 2 members in an already established relationship (MM) but this relationship is very subtle, lots of dogs and several Mythical creatures.
Review contains some spoilers. . . . I liked the storyline and characters a lot. There were some scenes that were thought of but we didn't know if happened, like the meat sandwich between the two lovers, or the talk d needed with nate. I am also suprised Nate wasnt in thw room with her when she gave birth. I don't typically read books where it revolves around pregnancy, but I did enjoy this one.
I felt like I waited forever for this second book, though it really wasn't all that long. I really appreciated where this book went. I love Wren and all of her many men. I'm really hoping the triplets get their own book after this because with Graces brain I know it would be a wonder.
An ending to a great story! I am so sorry it is over, because it was that good. This book, like the first one, had everything right in the characters and story. What a joy to read a book without ever cringing because of poor grammar or bad character development. These were people you could imagine having as friends. Loved it!
