Jasper
As a medic, my life's goal is to help people. But when I'm torn from the front lines by slavers and auctioned off, my purpose is shattered.

Then a Borraq warrior steps in. Kyral buys me. He says he needs someone to tend to his old war wounds.

Kyral's rough exterior hides a wounded heart that draws me in. As I heal him, his gaze lingers on me, igniting an unexpected attraction.

I don't know what I wany any more — my freedom, or to stay with him.

Kyral
I tell myself it's practical — buying the human medic at auction to tend to my wounds. But Jasper unsettles me.
He sees through my tough facade, igniting a flame I thought was snuffed out long ago.

As he tends to me, I'm drawn to his warmth, his kindness.

I'm a lone wolf, hardened by war.

Can I protect Jasper from the darkness that haunts me?

Primal Call is a steamy scifi MM hurt-comfort age-gap romance featuring a gruff alien warlord and the lost human he captures. It's part of the Warlords of Vasz series, but can be read as a standalone.

Human medic x lonely wounded alien ? Sign me up!

Now, I love alien stories, you’ll probably find me in all of them so I’m obviously going to be a little bias 👀

Medics are my favorite! I love love love hurt/comfort and any form of caretaking so I always expect a heft dose of that when there’s a medic MC but unfortunately in this, I really didn’t feel like it was used to its full potential. The only times it was shown he was any type of healer after meeting the MC was the weird way that Jasper offered Kyral medical advice WHILE he was on display being auctioned off at the bar and Kyral had stepped up to take a closer look, needing to do a ‘nerve massage’ to alleviate Kyral’s pain during an episode even tho he claimed that he wasn’t familiar with Borraq anatomy, and finally, the weirdest part was when he was voicing his own symptoms after being cut with a poisoned weapon, almost losing consciousness when someone shoved a quick acting antidote into his mouth and he quickly came to, again voicing his improving symptoms and immediately asking about the medical properties in the medicine… kinda completely pulling me away from that life/death situation that he was in …

And I had the same complaint in this one as I did the previous book, there wasn’t a real scene of the human meeting the other humans and how the new couple settled into the clan.

Kyral was kicked out of his clan after the war because they considered him damaged goods because he had the gene mutation injuries. He became an outcast, he had plans of buying land and creating his own clan - OF COURSE THAT LEFT ME INTERESTED IN HIS POV OF BEING ACCEPTED INTO A NEW CLAN, one where he could safely live with his human mate. We don’t get his POV, we get TOLD in Jasper’s POV of how they’ve been settling in and happy in their new life.

Jasper has become the clan’s healer’s apprentice, which I thought was really cool and fitting, he’s learned all about the plants and their healing properties. And it’s mentioned that Kyral is was able to pay for the gene mutation therapy and he’s like a different person after that. COOL. Maybe a chapter showing Jasper taking care of Kyral after a treatment would’ve been nice to see. 🥺

I actually would’ve preferred more than just one chapter of them with the clan. 🥲

I’m still a little bothered by the whole, all humans smell enticing and alluring to the aliens but what’s distinguishing a mate pull from just the regular pull of the intoxicating scent ? It’s mentioned that the scent isn’t as potent in the open chilly air and that Kyral is good at ignoring it because of so many years of being a warrior and suppressing urges ( like the MC in the previous book) sooo I think it would be nice to see an alien MC fall in love with a human without the human scent playing any part of it, maybe an MC who’s born without a sense of smell? 🤔

REGARDLESS of my complaints and niggles this was still very enjoyable after having a few DNFs in a row.

I really loved how Kyral would sneak extra food to Jasper when he thought Jasper didn’t notice and how tender he became with him. I also loved that Jasper was brave enough to voice that he wanted to stay with Kyral even if it was dangerous. 🥺

The next book in the series will be about another human that was introduced being in captivity with Jasper in the beginning of the book. He was injured and Jasper and another human were trying to help him. Apparently the human is going to be bratty and that’s not my favorite so I’m not sure if I’ll read that or just skip ahead to the fifth one that seems more my style. 🤔

such a wonderful series

This series just keeps getting better and better. Kyral and Jasper were just wonderful! I loved watching their characters develop and learning to truly trust one another. I’m so glad Kyral was able to find a home again, both in a clan and in Jasper. Thank you!

They get better as they go on

I did hope for a story of a clanless Borraq, so Kyral and Jasper didn’t let me down. Their story was again quite action packed but their relationship was definitely my favourite so far. 4.5*

This was so boring... Nothing about it stood out and I was literally trying not to fall asleep while reading.

Slow build up. Loved the character and the ethical dilemma's resolution.
