Employing her customary razor-like humour, Morag Prunty introduces a host of characters whose lives have been chewed up and spat out by this harsh, celebrity-obsessed world. There's Molly, a lonely 20-something, who trudges to the newsagents every day for her fix of VIP, OK!, Hello!: - anything to give her life a much-needed injection of glamour. . . And there's Alfie, burned-out boyband member who's kissed the good times goodbye and is now all washed up . . . In her inimitable way, Morag Prunty introduces a collection of fascinating characters and gives them a sprinkle of magic dust in this witty dissection of the vagaries of fame and celebrity.

Wow...I'm on a Morag Prunty stretch here. When I find a wonderful author, I like to devour all of their books at once. This is my third book of hers to read. And, each one has been absolutely marvelous. This book had me laughing out loud with the twists and turns of the burnt out rock stars, and my favorite, MOLLY, the girl from Killa in love with all of her US type magazines. What I love about Morag's writing is each character's voice is sharp and real. I can easily pick up her book, fade in and out of the pages easily with ease. When this story was finished, I re-read the ending a few times just because I hated that it had ended. Life can be like that, too, sometimes. This book and "Poison Arrows" are more obscure and I could only find them on Amazon to order. Superstar Lovers by Morag Prunty

As novels about super rich people in their little bubbles of fame go, this isn't the worst. Throw in a few rock stars, models, their partners and a few star struck "commoners" and ... you know the rest.

But this book actually does try to rationalise what fame does to the individual- both those who crave it, and those who have it thrust upon them. There is some very amusing comedy in this book too - not least the thinly disguised parody of Elton John and his civil partner. It was only about half way through the book that I realized that a host of references to Elton's lyrics punctuated the narrative where his character featured. If ever I read the book again I shall look out for more of them. But I won't go breaking my heart to read it again. Once was not too painful though.
