I'm really surprised this book isn't more widely read. It's an incredible firsthand insight into a woman who was born and lived as a slave before buying her own freedom (this part of her life story is worth the price of admission alone), and rises up to becoming dressmaker and friend to the Mary Todd Lincoln and her husband. Keckley writes in a way that is really engaging, even 150 years on, and had the incredible foresight to know what details to record for future generations.

Interesting read about the relationship between Elizabeth Keckley (Mary Todd Lincoln's dressmaker and friend) and Mary Todd Lincoln.
