Please This book ends on a cliffhanger. If you don't like cliffhangers, I suggest waiting until the series is complete!
Content This book contains the following themes, which some may find Mafia, Menagerie, BDSM, impact play, gunplay, violence, forced marriage, dub-con, confinement, bondage, death, enemies to lovers, torture, amputation, and voyeurism.
If you are not comfortable with these themes, this book is not for you; this is a Dark Mafia Romance, and the male leads can be brutal and are not cinnamon roll alpha males. They are possessive, controlling, manipulative, and sometimes straight-up assholes, but don't worry, Fallon can and does give as good as she gets.

PHEW!!!!! 😅🔥 Ok! It’s RARE that a book can leave me flabbergasted at the end, but this one did just that!! Plot twist major, cliffhanger, intensity and just all the feels!! I need more! But that’s one of the things that I absolutely LOVE about Jessica Halls books, and I’ve read them all(I believe 🤔)!!! She always leaves me wanting more! GAMBLE has such a great story line and I couldn’t put it down. Now to nail bite until book #2!! 😍😬
Seductively enthralling immediately! Definitely not for the faint of heart. This story is a beautiful contrast to Jessica’s fantasy writing that was both raw and steamy. Suspenseful throughout and the cliffhanger ending left me wanting for so much more!
This was my third attempt at reading dark romance (whatever the f i just read), and I thought because the reviews were pretty positive, I'd have a chance at enjoying this book.
Alas, I did not. This book comes with many warnings.
"This book contains the following themes, which some may find Mafia, Menagerie, BDSM, impact play, gunplay, violence, forced marriage, dub-con, confinement, bondage, death, enemies to lovers, torture, amputation, and voyeurism."
Direct quote. What isn't listed is SA and r@pe and grooming. This book is full of it.
Here are some quotes from one of the most charming MMC:
"That you’ll give us what we want. That your body will betray you even if your mind resists.”
That's r@pe... no gray area.
"She’s a masterpiece of pleasure and pain—our masterpiece.”
Because you groomed a virgin.
Enough said. I was uncomfortable for the entire book. Too taboo for me, I guess.
I have zero words for what I just read… I am floored! I JUST finished reading and Jessica, I loved it! You put your entire foot in this book, and you had me hooked from the beginning! I laughed, I screamed, I kicked my feet, I clenched my pearls, and choked on my water at the end. I mean, I’ve read a lot of Jessica’s paranormal dark romance books, but THIS ONE!!! Gamble way chef’s kiss, in my opinion.
Gamble follows Fallon, a card shark FMC who plays with the big boys, and quickly finds herself at the mercy of Leone Pressutti. The notorious casino owner and leader of a prominent underground gambling ring. When Fallon finds herself at his mercy with the decision to make between sparring her family by marrying Leone against her will, or will Fallon’s fate be sealed by her stubbornness and unwillingness to cooperate?
Fallon was a good FMC, even though I wanted to shake her at times for her stubbornness; BUT she was a fighter and a bit scrappy, I’ll give her that. Leone as much as I wanted to not like him, he grew on me like… There’s something about merciless mafia casino owners (am I right!?!?). Even Milo was the perfect balance between Leone’s wrath, and Fallon’s ability to push their buttons; but the punishment for it was so worth it (in the spiciest way possible).
If you’re looking for a spicy dark mafia romance, why choose MMF, a marriage of convince with forced proximity, “Get my wife.” The Gamble by Jessica Hall is for you!
Gosh, what an end to this book! Fallon works at a casino owned by Leone Pressuti, a monster. She's a dealer but takes one gamble too far as she card counts at an underground game and finds herself trapped by the enigmatic, cold and handsome mafioso. Then there's Milo, his closest friend and a man who's watched her for years. She hates being caged but knows it's the only way to save her family. There's a lot that goes on in this one and it's a complete story that ends on a hook, a literal roulette wheel of choices face Fallon every day. Despite being a captive, she discovers untold passion with the men and something like affection. There's intrigue, danger, dubcon, non con, steam, tender moments and betrayal. A terrific series starter for fans of dark mafia romance or Filthy Rich Fae but without the paranormal elements.
raggedy cliffhanger smut hoe from HELL… in absolutely the most loving and respectful way possible on earth. But also slightly fuck you 😭💕
Milo, something about my little baby just made me love him from the very beginning. OK he could do no wrong. Even when he was showering and washing brains from his latest torture victim down the shower, I still love him. LEONE, daddy Leone. Mr. “fuck you with a gun while playing Russian roulette and if you don’t cum you die” Pressutti. we have a love-hate relationship. A stressful, hair, pulling frustrated relationship. That I love….. don’t ask me to explain my feelings OK.
This is a great first book to the series, and THANK GOD book 2 is out already because that cliffhanger almost put me in grippy socks. I’m talking 72 hour stay.
anywayz, off i go to see what kind of punishment Fallon will get in book 2.. lucky bitch LMAO
Holy heck, this book is phenomenal. This book is dark and keeps me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I love the characters, but I am at odds with one right now. I want to hate him so bad, but I can't. This was a great introduction to the dark romance world for this author. That cliffhanger dang brutal.
Definitely before you read this book look at the trigger warning because this isn't for the faintest of hearts. The beginning chapters you can sense the intensity of what's going to happen, the more you read. Further along in the chapter there's twists and the plots planning by the characters gets you wondering what is going to happen. The spicy scene are just that very spicy but raw and intense at the same time. I did enjoy this book, it was a good read with everything that was happening with the storyline and want to know more about what happens with everything.
Lots of inconsistencies and it needed a trigger warning page
So, I have been a huge fan of Jessica Hall for a long time. I have read almost all of her dark paranormal romance books and loved them. I was excited for her first dark mafia, because I am a huge fan of the genre, however I was very disappointed. The plot was unoriginal and uneventful for her normal standards. Marcus fleeing with her was kinda done already in The Lycans King's Captive. The gun scene has been done before as well. Looking past that though, Leone is a straight male head of the Italian mafia and so I cannot understand why he would share his wife with Milo. Especially since his first wife cheated on him with his brother. Now in the paranormal world the mate bond made that acceptable, however this isn't the paranormal world and mafia heads who are extremely possessive do not share. Most of the book is in Fallon's POV and honestly it sometimes really made me dislike her character. It was also harder to connect with Leone and Milo, because everything was also in her POV and well we know she doesn't like them. Kinda wished we would have gotten more POV's from the guys. The book could have greatly benefited with a proofreader going over the edits, because there were inconsistencies throughout it. For example in the underground casino Milo takes her heels off and puts on flats for her, but four chapters later he heels are clicking across the floor. One chapter towards the end is in Milo's POV, but he refers to himself in the third person. Things like that are scattered throughout the whole book, which is not the norm for a Jessica Hall book. There was no content warning or trigger warning page at all in this book and it should have had one for first time readers. Jessica Hall's regular readers would have been prepared, but this is her first Kindle Unlimited book so new readers are going to find it and be in for a shock. It does with a cliffhanger and I will be giving book two a shot in hopes for some answers and clarity.
Book was fantastic thoroughly enjoyed reading it, what an absolute page-turner. I honestly did not want to put it down it was a very addictive read.
It is Jessica Hall’s first Mafia book but you would have thought she has been writing that genre for years. The book was very unique and different compared to other books I have read and will definitely stand out in the Mafia genre as being a must read.
It was the first Mafia book I have read personally, so didn’t know what to expect or if it would be something I would enjoy. However, I had read many books of Jessica Hall’s before and thoroughly enjoyed and loved them to the point I am planning on rereading them again (I have already reread most of them more than once already). After enjoying and loving her other books (including numerous book series), I wanted to try her new book and try another genre, which I am so glad I did because it’s brilliant.
The book kept me on the edge of my seat constantly wanting to know what happens next with the unexpected twists and the amazing cliffhanger ending has left me wanting more and I am definitely going to be looking out for updates on the release of Book 2 and finding out what happens after the cliffhanger ending.
All I can say is wow, Jessica your books never disappoint and no matter what you publish we always know to expect the best and I have loved every single book of yours that I have read with many more on my to be read (TBR) list.
I love this authors work having previously read all her books on the reading apps. When she announced a new mafia book and was looking for an ARC team I jumped at the chance and signed up straight away. This book does not disapoint. If you love an alpha male and his best friend with a sassy female lead set in a mafia world this is for you.
Set in a casino our FML, Fallon, is a dealer and in a desperate attempt to gain money to help pay her sisters medical bills she plays the tables. Her actions are not missed by her boss, Leone and his best friend, Milo. She takes the biggest gamble and steals her bosses money. As punishement Leone gives her 2 choices, marry him or watch her father die. Fallon choose to marry and is drawn into Leones dark world, she will do anything to save her family. Milo has had a crush on her since she started working there, Leone knowing this agrees to share her.
I love a mafia book and you wouldn't know this is the first time JH has written one. This book is dark and dangerous and full of suspense. Her characters are always interesting and there is usually a hidden backstory that comes to light in the most explosive ways. The chemistry between the characters is hot even when Fallon is resisting. There is a scene of torture which is not too discriptive but gets the imagination working This book ends on a huge cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next one.
This book gave me whiplash. My head is still spinning.
I have thoughts. I read this book in one day and stayed up until the wee hours of the night. I was rooting for Fallon to have at least one win in this book, but atlas, it never happened. Leone hold all the cards, Milo doesn’t really stand up for Fallon and she gets thrown around like a rag doll with stitches bursting left and right.
It was not unreasonable for Fallon to slap a skank that was about give her husband a blow job, but in return she gets slapped, fucked in the face, handcuffed and given the silent treatment until she has a panic attack. Leone and Milo takes advantage of her vulnerability and they both end up fucking her.
Who’s bright idea was it to leave Fallon locked and cuffed to the bed while Dante is in the house roaming freely? It doesn’t make sense.
I’m hoping Fallon is able to get some wins in the second book, because she has nothing going on for her in the first one and her treatment from the MMCs is terrible. Leone needs to be taken down a couple of pegs and Milo need to stand up for his woman.
I can’t stop thinking about this book because I’m actually enraged on Fallon’s behalf.
Jessica Hall knows how to write a good book that has you drawn in from start to finish.
I have read soo many of her Books my absolute favourite bring the Fated Series. Unreal and when I seen that she was writing a Mafia story I couldn’t wait to read this book.
This is the first Mafia Book Jessica has written but my god did she get it spot on. I love Mafia Dark Romance Books and this book like their other stories is dark so definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in with no armbands.
If you like all things dark and the smut, smutty then this book is for you.
This story has all the spice, with twists and turns along the way during this story and has you not wanting to put it down. The cliffhanger at the end though… ok I need the next book I need to know what’s happening.
I was so lucky to receive an ARC Copy of this book and when the email hit my inbox I did a little squeal with excitement. Absolutely buzzing having the opportunity to read one of Jessica’s books early.
Definitely go check out her books Gamble is out 26th June
Jessica Hall has sucked me backed in with this one. I haven’t read her books in years and she was the first author I ever read for romance books in general.
Mafia romance through her eyes is amazing. I was prepared for it to be dark and the threat was always there but she eases you into the darkness. It lures you into a security of want and desire.
I love that the character Fallon is not weak. She is fiery and fierce. She knew the risk of every step she makes and ways her odds. When the bet doesn’t go in her favor she didn’t run she stood strong she was as calculated as her men. Leone is dangerous, ruthless, and calculating. As much as I wanted to believe Fallon was going to be running this show Leone enters the picture and proves that this is his game.
It does end on a cliff hanger and I pray to the gods I don’t have to wait to long to find out what happens next. I thought pnr dark romance was your jam Jessica Hall but this is a calling and I need so much more.
Just to set the stage here, this book could be very triggering for some people. It has some very VERY dark and spicy parts to it. It was a hard read for me because it was so triggering but at the same time, I couldn't NOT read it, some scenes had me questioning everything. So many emotions, plot twists, and the ending... OMG when does the next come out???
I've read several of Jessica's other fantasy books, have always loved the story lines. This is a first for me. It has great, strong characters in Fallon, Leon & Milo. I have never read a book dealing with the mafia in this capacity before. You have a gamble lost with too high of stakes to be paid, power plays & addiction, obsession, humor, and lots of twists and turns ending with a cliffhanger that makes you on edge.
Again, be warned, it's dark and can be triggering.... but it's amazing.
“Gamble" by Jessica Hall plunges readers into a gripping world of desperation and danger. In this riveting tale, the author crafts a world that captivates from the first page. The story is imbued with suspense, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. The characters are well-developed, and their intense interactions are both believable and electrifying.
What truly sets this book apart is its ability to weave a complex narrative that is both thrilling and thought-provoking. The cliffhanger at the end, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the next installment. Overall, this novel is a captivating exploration of desperation, risk, and resilience. It portrays the indomitable spirit of a woman fighting against insurmountable odds, making it a must-read for those who appreciate a blend of romance, suspense, and an intricate plot. Be prepared to be left wanting more!

Gamble, the first book of the Empire Of Chance Series, by Jessica Hall, her first ever Dark Mafia Menage Romance series, is definitely a book you want to add to your TBR list.
It’s mafia with a very interesting gamble spin to it that keeps you wanting to learn more about the characters and what influences their thoughts and actions.
You got all the ingredients to keep you locked in:
A hot and ruthless notorious crime boss A woman having to pay a too steep dept A loyal man with an obsession A life changing gamble A forced marriage A reverse harem situation And a cliffhanger ending that will leave you on the edge of your seat, waiting for the second to come out!
Will Fallon eventually part of the house? Cause like Leone says: « The house always wins! »
Jessica Hall has done it again. Her new mafia romance book, "Gamble," is Jessica at her best. The heroine, Fallon, is beautiful and sassy, bringing a fresh and fiery spirit to the narrative. Her nemesis, Leone, and his right-hand man, Milo, embody everything you would expect in a thrilling mafia novel. This book is exhilarating from start to finish. It's thrilling, exciting, and fast-paced, seamlessly blending dark and dirty elements. Let's face it, who doesn't love that combination in a book? Jessica Hall's masterful storytelling and rich character development make "Gamble" a must-read for her fans and anyone who loves mafia romance. Get ready to be captivated by this intense, steamy, and addictive read.
5⭐️ 3🌶️ Oh my goodness! The way this book automatically drew me in from the very beginning. I couldn’t put it down!! I’m already such a huge fan of Jessica’s work. Her paranormal romances are top freaking tier 🤌🏻 so when I found out she was writing a mafia romance I’m like yes please!! And let me tell you she did not disappoint!! Leone was so deliciously unhinged 😮💨 Milo was a calmer version of him but he was still stole my heart. I love how fierce Fallon was no matter they threw at her she gave it back just as hard. I did feel bad for her with the stuff she was dealing with. The intense connection between these three was everything. And then that cliffhanger 🤯 I can’t wait for book 2!! This story is definitely a must read!! It is a dark romance so be sure to check trigger warnings.
This story was amazing! I love Leone, it’s just something about him. It’s obvious Fallon likes to learn the hard way, she was warned multiple times what would happen but clearly she likes playing with fire. Fallon upset me in the beginning being upset about her circumstances when she’s the reason that she’s there, like take some accountability, not saying she has to be happy but she’s old enough to understand for every action there’s consequences. Normally i’m not a fan of enemies to lovers trope however it was done perfect in this book by not having it drag out for over half the book. I can’t wait for part 2 !
What starts in a casino develops into so much more. The mafia, Mexican cartel, women being traded and lives being taken. You never now who can be trusted. Are they friend? Foe? Trapped by her fear, captivated by her enemies, so many twists and turns. Leone might be a twisted casino owner fixated on owning Fallon, but those aren’t his only intentions…I could not put this book down. So many ups and downs. You root for the typical Lovers to Enemies trope only to be fooled by the end and wanting more.
There were 2 “Gamble” options, so I’m just going to post my review twice :) Okayyyyyyy… Some side notes first: I am used to Jessica Hall’s fantasy/supernatural books, so this was a first for me. I know Jessica Hall to be very dark with her stories, it’s one of my favorite aspects of her writing. Her books suck you in and make you feel like you are a part of this super dark and exciting journey. That being said, I thought because this wasn’t her usual fantasy writing, I wouldn’t get anything really twisted out of this read. I might enjoy it, I might not, but I’m gonna give it a shot anyway. Let me just say, I was so totally wrong. I am happy with the route this book took, but a cliffhanger!? Ugh! I know JH likes to write really long books, but given the blurb, I thought it was going to be one of those quick easy reads. Boy was I wrong and boy am I super happy I was! I am so excited for the next book to be even longer. If y'all thought Hunting/Haunting Adeline was dark, y’all aren’t ready for this steamy pile of Dark Romance. Can I just say? This book was soooo hot. There were some scenes where I was just really questioning everything, but I thoroughly enjoyed the heck out of this book. No, really. When is the next book coming out? Lol. You should tread carefully when reading this book! I have read a lot darker, but dark is dark, and this definitely falls under that category. I do not want to add any spoilers so I’ll leave it at that.
Jessica Hall has produced a story that had me second guessing throughout the entire read, only to leave me completely speechless. Set against the backdrop of casinos and dangerous, ruthless mafia men, it never pays to bet against those who control the game. With a dark, forced proximity menage, Hall crafts a novel that is filled with suspense, passion and unexpected twists, making this a book I could not put down. If you're seeking light and happiness, it's not here but if you enjoy a riveting, high-stakes drama with complex, multifacet characters, this book is for you.
I have read all of Jessica Halls books. I started with the Fated to the Alpha series and I won’t lie I was excited going into this book. I haven’t read a bad book from her yet. This book gives you just the right amount of everything that you can not put it down at all. I normally hate cliffhangers and will wait until the next book come out to read it all together but this is one book I won’t mind reading over and over again. Amazing work.
