Found Joe through his YouTube videos and wasn’t originally going to pick up his book, for reasons I couldn’t explain but then when I curiously searched it into audible and was surprised to see it was there, I felt the impulse to pick it up!

I did also think that the king himself would be reading but he isn’t, still the narration is great and clear.

A succinct, incredibly rich and well structured introduction to the higher concepts embedded within the Toth tarot. Perhaps one day I’ll apply for one of Joe’s courses but for now this was an incredible read (listen). Changed my perspective on a lot of esoteric concepts for sure!!

This is one of the better modern books I have read for people who are drawn to the Thoth Tarot but do not want to be thrown straight into Crowley’s prose and left there to fend for themselves. Joe Monteleone takes the deck seriously as a mystical and contemplative system, not just a set of unusual card meanings, and he does a good job connecting its symbolism with Qabalah, numerology, occult philosophy, and actual inner practice. I especially liked that the exercises invite you to spend time with the cards instead of merely collecting more correspondences to memorize. There is a real attempt here to explain how the Thoth Tarot can become a way of looking, not just a deck you consult. My one reservation is that the book sometimes reaches such a high level of abstraction that the language can get a little dense, especially when the focus shifts toward nonduality and “psycho-spiritual technology.” Readers who mainly want help interpreting a spread may find themselves wishing for more plain, grounded examples alongside the mystical theory. But Monteleone is thoughtful, enthusiastic, and much clearer than most writers working in this territory. It made me want to take my Thoth deck out and sit with it longer, which is about the best thing a book like this can do.

As the label says, this book is about Thoth Tarot and with that comes a specific type of mysticism which is covered from that angle. And it does it well. There are things that are still outside my frame of reference due to not having internalized the language used. This is probably from not having read Crowley at-depth. I do intend to return at a later time to further my understanding. Thanks Joe!
