He writes happy endings for a living, but can Jack orchestrate his own?
When bestselling author Jack Blackwood spontaneously proposes to Tess O'Neill, her first reaction is laughter.
Wait, he isn’t joking? Sure, they’ve been best friends for most of their lives, but that’s just they’re best friends.
Except something shifts in both of them following Jack’s suggestion and the more time they spend together, the more Tess begins to consider Jack in a new light.
Could a rock-steady friendship be the perfect foundation of a love for the ages or would they be fools to risk everything they have on a “what if?"

If you read my review of the first book in this series you know that for me Isabelle Grace is a new author. I really enjoyed the first book in the series and was looking forward to reading the next one. Like A Baby Changes Everything, A Proposal Changes Everything is about the Blackwood family.
Up this time is Jack Blackwood who is a writer. He and his best friend Tess have been friends since they were kids. Their relationship from the beginning is clearly just friends until it isn't.
I really enjoyed Jack and his family. The way he goes to his brother for advice is sweet. We all have that moment of not knowing if what we are doing is the right thing. I also liked how his younger brother gave him such a hard time about his growing feelings for Tess. Brothers are like that.
I enjoyed Tess too but she seemed to have a few self-confidence issues. I got that she was afraid to lose her best friend but, to be honest, she was going to lose him anyway one day. I'm not sure any woman would have been comfortable about them spending so much time together.
I did like how they worked out their issues and learned that what they have been feeling for so long for each other was love. These two have been dating since they were little kids and just didn't know it. You see it in every little action they do. They know each other so well and get along better than more. All they needed to see is if the physical part of their relationship worked
As a whole, this is a very sweet small-town romance that is very easy to read.
Jack Blackwood has almost everything he ever wanted, a successful career, attractive, any woman he wants. Yet, after 20 years of friendship, he asked his best friend Tess O’Neill, to marry him! They have never been more than best friends, so she has no idea why he wants to do this. She is certainly interested because he is perfect. And he is obviously interested too, thinking it makes the most sense to marry your best friend. But she then OVER-thinks and worries that this could ruin their friendship.
They need to have an open talk about their relationship and what caused the desire for more at this time. Communication is so vital to any relationship. Trying to protect a friendship as you become ready for the next phase in your life doesn’t mean you give up all that you have shared together over the years. Falling in love is a positive step as the friendship matures. And if it doesn’t work, I truly believe you can back off the physical side and fall back to what made you friends to begin with, while still communicating honestly. Grab your copy and see if Jack and Tess find a way to let the other know they are ready to move forward together. Will his courtship be convincing? Will they find a HEA waiting for them?
Book 2 of the Hickory Ridge series, this book follows brother Jack and his quest for love. This can absolutely be read as a stand-alone, as although there is mention of Drew from book 1, this book wholly centres around Jack's story.
I absolutely loved this!
The proposal comes right at the start of the book and kick-starts the whole journey that follows for best friends Jack and Tess. Taking their friendship to the next level is a risk to their long-term friendship if things go wrong - but risks are worth taking when their relationship is so strong and their chemistry culminates in a few steamy scenes.
This was a super easy read which was your classic friends to lovers story and it was absolutely obvious where the story would go and finish - but I just thought it was beautifully written and a really enjoyable read.
I loved all the characters - Jack and Tess and their history as well as the development of their new relationship - but also all the brothers and their family too.
With 4 brothers in total and only 2 books so far - I'm honestly hoping that we will be revisiting Hickory Ridge soon, to find out more about the others.
...as those who refuse to see. Like Tess and Jack.
Best friends since their meeting at age eleven, even the idea of a romantic relationship never crossed their minds through high school and college. After college, establishing careers left little time to consider changing the status quo. So Tess was understandably blindsided when Jack asked her, in the middle of her sister's engagement party, to marry him.
I understood and empathized with this couple. Changing the relationship dynamic is a frightening and chancy process. Jack and Tess navigated that transition with deftness and careful consideration to remaining friends as they explored the possibility for a deeper and more encompassing relationship.
I received an ARC copy of this story directly from the author and voluntarily chose to share my review.
The second book in the Blackwood Brothers series a well written story with a good storyline. I enjoyed reading best-selling suspense novelist Jack Blackwood and his best friend Photographer Tess O’Neill's story. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A Proposal Changes Everything by Isabelle Grace is an amusing rom-com starring Tess O’Neill and Jack Blackwood. It was previously published using the title Jack’s Courtship. They were at her sister’s engagement party, enjoying the evening. They were best friends, and had been for twenty years. All of a sudden he blurts: “We should get married.” She looked at him as if he’d lost his mind. He repeated himself. She excused herself. She needed some air. She had never seen him that way. In fact, she had helped him with many of his romances, starting in middle school. She wasn’t about the fall in love with her best friend, which is what it would take. She would not marry for anything less than love.
This was such a fun book. Not quite laugh-out-loud funny, but close. Their families would think it was a terrific idea so no one could get a clue what was going on. It would break their hearts when it all fell apart. Because they had been friends for so long, no one hesitated to walk right into his house even if her car was there. That made for some embarrassing moments. Even as they got into it, Tess was not sure. She didn’t want to lose her friend. Jack was sure, all along, and just got more sure. This was a terrific story, not complicated but real. The two lead characters were decently written and the plot was simple, always best. It was believable and right. If you are a lover of light romance, this is the book for you.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of A Proposal Changes Everything by Inkubator Books, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #InkubatorBooks #IsabelleGrace #AProposalChangesEverything
Oh, I do love this series. It is most definitely a new favourite of mine despite only being two books in.
I loved that this book started with THE proposal. No preamble just wham bam thank you, mam! Then everything else followed. This is my favourite kind of story and I have been intrigued ever since A Baby Changes Everything – I wanted to know more about Jack and Tess. A whole will they or won’t they and neither of them knew!!
I love this entire family. Bit of a shame we didn’t see anything of Drew and Hope but we saw more of Holden and Reece. Plus a new character in the guise of Adrian. I would love books on all of these characters plus Anna and Eli, like a prequel to the family. Even Zeke and Sarah! Oh please!!!
Even though I personally feel the stories should be revolving around the Blackwood men, I love that it’s not. It’s about the women they affect and boy do they get affected. Slightly steamy in some places.
I just love disappearing for a few hours into this tale. Watching them discover new opportunities and realising what was always in front of them.
Aw, I just love it! Isabelle has a family that I would to be a part of, working on the farm and being in love 😂 they are infectious and you always feel everything is going to be ok. I was hooked from the first page until the last. Only then did I begrudgingly close my Kindle… mainly because I had to there no more pages! I loved it, simply adored it, and just want the next book now!
The Blackwood family are definitely overachievers. In Book 1 we met Drew Blackwood and Hope, both veterinarians. In Book 2, Isabelle Grace gives us Jack Blackwood, a successful novelist and his best friend since elementary school, Tess, a photographer. We have romance, humor, family dynamics and drama, and a look at what happens after a surprise proposal. This book was so much fun to read and I can’t wait to find out what the author has in store for Jack’s brothers, Holden and Reese, and hopefully Adrian. I distinctly heard a few challenges to the idea of love for them.
I loved the first book in the Hickory Ridge series and this swcond book was like coming back to a long time friend. It was well written with a captivating storyline and characters that were well developed and that I instantly loved. I couldn't put it down and I ddin't want it to end. A quick, easy and steamy read.
This is the second book in this series, and this is Tess and Jack’s story. These two have best friends for most of their lives. Jack is now a bestselling author, and Tess is a photographer. When Jack proposes out of the blue, Tess is blindsided. This is a well written story which is a fun read, with family, friendships, emotions, romance, drama, witty banter, humor, and love, which leads to an entertaining page turner. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A new author to me and a quick, fun read. Jack Blackwood spontaneously proposes to his best friend at her sister’s engagement party. Tess’s reaction is perfect. They have been friends for twenty years. Now one has thoughts of more, and the other begins to question the status of their friendship. This story is about how they decide how they will go forward.
Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
This is a million miles away from my usual genre and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I mean what’s not to love. A steamy romance and I don’t think I’m giving too much away as the sequel is called “A Baby Changes Everything” (which I will definitely read), a happy ending.
What would you do if your best friend for the last twenty years proposed to you? This is the dilemma Tess faces. Risk losing her best friend if it doesn’t work out or risk losing the love of your life? The two main protagonists were great. Tess is sexy and sassy but at the same time sweetly lacking in confidence. Jack is sex on legs, rich but he is also a NICE guy. When the two get together in the bedroom it makes Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Paler. However, there is more to this novel than sex. It is romantic and we also find out a little bit more about Jack’s family at Hickory Ridge.
I really didn’t know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be reading the sequel to find out where Tess and Jack go from here.
When Jack proposes to Tess, it's out of the blue especially when they aren't in a relationship. But when you have known someone your whole life it simply makes sense.
This is the second novel I have read by this author and I could not get enough. I was so happy to be launched back into the lives of the Blackwood family, that I want to be a part of their family constantly.
I loved the character of Tess and her independence, strength and go-to attitude which had her questioning things to get to where she wanted to be.
Jack had a soft soul and was a protective character to everyone he held dear, I couldn't help but fall in love with him myself; especially since he was a writer.
I had so many emotions throughout reading this book, I smiled feeling happy for the characters and cried so hard at a situation I had to redo my make-up.
Grace knows how to tell a narrative full of raw emotion.
I nearly finished this in one sitting, and the only reason I didn't is that I had to sleep.
Tess and Jack have been best friends for twenty years. Now in their early thirties, and both single, Jack proposes to Tess. Despite never dating, Jack knows he could never marry anyone else and that Tess is the only woman he could imagine in his future. But, Tess is blindsided.
Despite their close friendship, Tess has never admitted romantic feelings for Jack, but he challenges her to consider them. Tess is a romantic and Jack is out to prove that she should consider his proposal. Quickly, Tess begins to see Jack in a way she never had before, and her feelings for him evolves.
The title is perfect for this book because Jack's proposal truly changed everything between them. A book opening with a marriage proposal in the first chapter was bold and allowed the story to focus on Tess and Jack's relationship as their emotions develop.
I liked how the story had very little external conflict and was really a story about two people who love each other and allow their love to develop into a new love.
Thank you to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for an arc in exchange for an honest review!
Feat: friends to lovers, he falls first, sweet spice 3.75 stars 1.5 spice
I enjoyed Jack & Tess’s book. They’ve been best friends for most of their lives, but that’s just it: they’re best friends. Except something shifts in both of them following Jack’s suggestion and the more time they spend together, the more Tess begins to consider Jack in a new light. It was an interesting read. And am voluntarily leaving my review.
My Thoughts: I couldn’t give this anything less than 5 stars, although I would’ve definitely given it more if I could!
A friends to lovers romance about an author?! For a bookworm who loves romance this was perfect.. and it ended up being everything I expected and more!
Although this series is about the Blackwood brothers, the focus isn’t on the men as such.. it’s all about the women.
Tess and Jack have been best friends for as long as they can remember.. but that’s all it’s ever been until Jack proposes to Tess, she laughs it off but then obviously starts wondering how serious he really was..
Watching the 2 of them discover the true feelings they have for each other was beautiful, I literally couldn’t put the book down!
I loved seeing the vulnerability of both characters within the story whist they navigated this new journey together but once they worked it out, they really worked it out 🔥🔥
I don’t want to give anything away, but I loved it & cannot wait to see what the next Hickory Ridge book has in store for us!
Thank you @zooLoosBt and @Gracewriting for letting me part of this tour and reviewing this book. A Proposal Changes everything is good read. I liked Jack and Tess tbry both are very cute toghter and are meant to be. They have been friends for 20 years but suddenly Jack realise how he feels about Tess and ask her to marry him. Tess goes in a bit of panic of load but she not thought of Jack like this but as they kind of start dating her feelings change. This is the second book in the series and is 230 pages long. This is a lovely romance which is heartwarming and it does get bit steamy in places. The story is written well and good plot and I liked all the characters and it has hooked me because needed to finish it to see what happens to them both. I love how there family are so supportive to them both 5 stars.
The 2nd in the Hickory Ridge series is even better than the first I think! Whether it was because we already had got to know the Blackwood family a little, I'm not sure but I would love to be a part of that family. Jack is a lovely character and his and Tess's relationship blossoms so lovingly. I stayed up far too late reading this all in one sitting, I just love this small town, Southern manners, romance. I cant wait to see which brother is next!
A lovely story of how marriage should be. Your spouse should be your very best fried your all in all. That is what make it last! Awesome read loved their story.
When bestselling author Jack Blackwood proposes Tess O'Neil, his childhood friend of twenty years, Tess finds his proposal absurd.
As they both spend more time together, Tess starts to see Jack in a new light and considers his proposal. Thank you to Isabelle Grace, NetGalley and Rosewood Books for the arc of this book.
Jack's Courtship is the second book in my Blackwood Brothers Series. Jack is the third brother, is a best-selling suspense writer, and has just told his best friend of twenty years that they should get married. She thinks he's flipped his gourd. Has he? Or is he onto something? Guess Tess will find out as Jack decides the best thing he can do to convince her he's right is to court her.
Best friends for 20 years and then one realizes they are in love with the other. It takes awhile for the other to take a chance at forever because who ever wants to lose your best friend.
I was given an ARC for this book by the publisher and NetGalley for an unbiased review. Tess O'Neill knows she can count on her best friend of 20 years, Jack Blackwell, they have been there for each other over the years but when he blurts out a proposal during her sister's engagement party she is taken aback,
Jack Blackwell is a successful writer who can have any woman her wants but he proposes to his best friend, Tess. Once the proposal is out he knows exactly how to handle her freak out because he knows how she likes to overthink everything.
Tess starts thinking it wouldn't be bad to be with Jack but she is nervous of ruining the one friendship that has followed her through the ups and downs of the last 20 years.
I love the Blackwell family! I want to be part of that family, I didn't realise that this was the second in a series it was good as a stand alone. I definitly will be reading the first book and keep an eye out for any more additions to their story.
I love how Jack just blurts out his “proposal”. “We should get married.” are the first words of the story. Tess is absolutely flabbergasted by this and just doesn’t believe or understand where this is coming from. Even if she doesn’t think this is a good idea, Tess does agree to give things between them a chance. Fun read with great characters that definitely holds your attention. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.
