When I find out that my fated mates and I have been kidnapped by a foreign king, I quickly make rule #2 my new mantra. This is especially the case after the king declares he intends to make me his bride. I already have one arrogant royal in my harem, and the last thing I need is another.
Time to make a plan. Step 1: Free Shade from the cage Step 2: Find my mates and make sure they don't die Step 3: Destroy the wedding I never agreed to Step 4: Get our asses back to Seral
Sounds simple, right? Except I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that some of the Persalian's survived, and the more secrets I unravel, the more I realize how blind I've been. If my mates and I are going to get out of this, we'll have to learn to trust one another and stop being at each other's throats. Luckily, they're even better at following rule #2 than I am. Never. Show. Mercy.
Ruthless Monsters is the second book in the Game of Psychos series and features a fierce, sarcastic heroine, her lethal, possessive fated mates, and all the twists and humor to keep you turning the pages. Please note that as this is book 2 in a series it will end on a cliffhanger.

While I can't remember anything from the first book and definitely should have done a refresher skim, this was really entertaining. Shade carries the book. She is the very best girl. Queen birb #1.
*3.75 Is it bad that my favorite character is a bird? I’m not sure, but either way, I’m enjoying this series!
I normally do not like real life references in my fantasy books, but this series sorta gives itself a pass in that Shade is from the human realm, so Blake doesn’t even understand the references most of the time. I would say it offers comedic relief if I thought this book took itself seriously in any capacity.
This book is just as short and fast-paced as the first one, which I think leaves some development to be desired, but does make it a fun, chaotic ride.
I’m not sure if the bar is simply living in hell now that I’ve read other RH series where the men are the worst, but I actually like all of Blake’s mates! Even though two of them are still in the process of needing to get their shit together, they’re not necessarily bad. It’s refreshing to enjoy all of the main characters instead of dreading their POV’s.
I’m not claiming that this is top tier literature or fantasy, but it’s a good time and I’m not gonna complain about that.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Blake and her mates must unravel the mystery of the their new captors in order to reunite. Blake is forced into a marriage against her will that will steal the power from her and her mates are imprisoned. New allies from a rebel group come to the aid.
This story is filled with adventure and romance. A nice light read that makes you fall in love with Blake and her mates as well as wish to explore more of their world. I can’t wait for the next book!
We Have: ✅ MMMM/F Romance + another M ✅ Fantasy/Supernatural ✅ Fated Mates ✅ Still Slow Burn (ONE measly scene) ✅ Unfinished Series ✅ Strong FMC ✅ Quick Read <300 pages
I really want>/i> to love this series. The characters are fun, and the premise is intriguing. This book picks up right where Book 1 left off, and we dive into the familiar trope of "fated mates struggling to form a relationship dealing with angst, accepting it, and then being torn apart." Not my favorite trope, honestly.
Dante is still my favorite, with Nate a close second, but I’m getting tired of Callan and the Assassin dude. I understand they didn’t expect things to unfold like this, but how many more books are we going to keep ignoring Fate?
The story isn’t bad. However, I base my ratings on personal preferences. When I see “reverse harem,” I expect a bit more smut. I get that world-building and character development are necessary, but with only heavy petting in book one, one brief scene and ONE RH scene in book two, it feels underwhelming.
Given the new "issue" at the end of this book, I can’t help but wonder if we’re going to spend each book traveling to one of her mates’ worlds just to solve their problems. For a short book, the reverse harem aspect feels dragged out. Here’s hoping the next one brings more of what I'm craving in this genre.
I want to stress that this one is fun and action-packed, perfect for folks who like more of a story than smut with RH (I'm giving side eye but no judgement lol).
When an entire race has been thought to have perished, the discovery of life underground is certainly a surprising discovery, one that does shed more light on the issue with the witches. Our FMC does find herself in a dangerous situation and her partners are locked up. Although there were some interesting elements, I did start to drift away from the story every now and again. The escape itself and freeing the enslaved citizens did puck things up, but then the occurrence of another partner felt a bit odd to me at least. It would have been nice to see some connections forming between the characters apart from the pull of the mate bond, but apart from the evident physical connection, the emotional one was nonexistent, at least for me. It might be the fact that the characters did spend the majority of the time apart from each other, but for some reason things just did not quite work for me here. I am interested to see what happens with King Dalton and the upcoming battle with the witches, so I am starting the last book. Hopefully, things do wrap up nicely by the end of the story.

fast, unserious, sometimes sexy, and mostly chaotic. If you liked book one, this will satisfy you with more action, more mates, and more absurdity. If you were looking for emotional payoff or complex storytelling, this still isn’t the series for that. But for a campy, low-effort palate cleanser, it absolutely holds its place.
Ruthless Monsters picks up right where Deranged Demons left off—with our half-angel, half-demon heroine and her not-so-willing mates kidnapped by a power-hungry, delusional king in a forgotten realm. Trapped in a kingdom where magic is suppressed, the guys are locked away in mines, her fifth mate is revealed, and she’s expected to marry a maniac—because why not? The only way out is to fake a bonding with her fated mates and take the kingdom down from the inside. And if that means wielding sarcasm, seduction, and sharp objects, so be it.
What Worked The plot had forward motion: The kidnapping plot added stakes, and it was fun watching this crew try to survive a new nightmare realm while undermining their captor.
More character growth (sort of): We got small glimpses of why Prince Callan and Nate hate each other, and some of the mates began dropping the enemies act and owning their attraction.
Uptick in heat and spice: The heroine's fear of killing lovers is resolved, which means more steam and (slightly) deeper bonds with her mates.
The fallen kingdom arc wraps well: I liked that they freed the oppressed people and restored the rightful queen. It gave the book a satisfying “win” moment before diving back into witch-fueled chaos.
The bird best friend continues to thrive and brings levity in a book that doesn’t take itself seriously.
What Didn’t Still emotionally shallow: The emotional stakes are light. There’s more heat, sure, but the bonding remains surface-level and rushed.
Logic? Gone: The rules of the world still make no sense—and at this point, I don’t expect them to.
Romance development remains weak: Yes, they’re all hot and attracted to each other, but the emotional why is thin.
Mia Hartson has extended the world of Game of Psychos, with the second book Ruthless Monsters. This time plot focuses on the Perstalians. We finally get answers about the people that were seemingly decimated. Mia did some excellent world-building, I found the Perstalians to be an interesting bunch. Then Mia dropped the huggiest bomb that had my jaw dropping. It was the juiciest backstory, it explained so much while adding new layers to the overall story. The story was pretty fast paced. There was a totally hateable villain, not the redeemable sort, no he was the "so who is the next to die" type. The questioning of what's going on and how exactly is Blake and the guys going to get out of this mess had me wondering.
By the way, Blake is still fabulous and I love her even more now. The guys have mostly grown on me although I'm still a little peeved at them, but there have been some personality improvements. Give credit where credit is due and all that. Especially since I finally found out what bug crawled up Prince Callen's butt. That was also another juicy little tidbit and I can't wait to find out more because I know more is coming. It has to be said that once again Shade has stolen the show, I love the sassy little crow. I couldn't have been more delighted that she has her own chapters in this one.
Ruthless Monsters was exciting. The plot was amazing, I loved that the story was built upon, there was plenty of action, rich detail, and some intrigue. There were some great developments and this book story wrapped up very well with, not a cliffhanger but a hint at what's to come. I'm excited to see where Mia takes the story.

Not as good as the first one but still kept me entertained. The ending was a little cheesy and how they defeated the enemy. Looking forward to the next one.
I did enjoy this book, however, it left me yearning for more. The book is a why choose romance with one female demon and multiple male species (shape shifter, demon, assassin, archangel, etc.). In book one there was some heavy petting and in this book I believe there was one sex scene.
The world building and plot was interesting, but I felt like the flow kept it from being a five star read. There were just some parts where book dragged for me as I craved more!
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 (rounded up for rating) Spice: 🌶️🌶️/5
Okay, if you’re reading this review, it means that you have read Book 1 because this is NOT a standalone.
AH! I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS! I INHALED THIS BOOK IN ALMOST ONE SITTING! EEEEEEP!
So let’s get into it!
🖤Badass FMC, Princess Blake 🐦⬛FMC’s best friend is a Crow named Shade (We LOVE Shade!) 🖤Hilarious banter (especially between Blake & Shade) 🐦⬛Protective, a-hole MMCs 🖤RH 🐦⬛Steam & sexual tension (slow burn) 🖤Insane adultnapping (ya know because, Blake & all the MMCs 😂) by a power hungry tyrant 🐦⬛Magic abilities 🖤Fated mates
We are thrown back into turmoil where Blake and her mates thought the fated trials were ending, but they all ended up being taken and held captive by the unhinged King of Perstalia. King Celzar intends to take Blake as his wife, and they’re at a place he called the Haven…which is problematic since it’s not a part of the allied realms and literally everyone’s magic is suppressed but his.
I knew going into this that King Celzar was one crazy individual, but I didn’t realize just HOW crazy. I won’t spoil why that’s the case, but just know that it’s a doozy when he explains his reasons for his actions; which are *totally* reasonable (I’m being very sarcastic).
While Princess Blake is trying not to lose her cool while being held in the palace, her mates are finding their own way to survive in the mines. Nate, our wily jaguar shifter and thief still possesses his infectious charm, but seems to be hiding secrets. Alaric, our Drozac assassin who originally was going to murder Princess Blake, is starting to change his tune, much to his dismay. Prince Callan, our moody archangel is starting to realize that how he has handled things with Blake might have some room for improvement (about time, hehe). And sweet, seductive, Dante, our resident playboy demon has been watching out for Princess Blake for much longer than she has ever known about. These four prisoners meet another individual, Mason, the fallen prince of Perstalia, who starts to feel hope that maybe the tides can change against his brother, King Celzar, with the arrival of these powerful outsiders.
You guys…this was a WILD ride where characters exuded cunning and stealth, displayed true feelings, and finally started to figure out how to work as a cohesive group. Shade got her very own chapters and is clutch to helping out our guys! AND! We find out if Princess Blake has found all of her mates or not! *Bow chicka wow wow*
Will everyone get out unscathed? Will new problems emerge? Go read to find out! I can’t wait to see how things continue in Book 3!
'My mates might be complete assholes, but they're my assholes, and I'm not about to let them die at the hands of an unhinged king' - Princess Blake
I couldn't wait to get my hands on this next installment in the Game of Psychos series, and I wasn't disappointed.
The world building continues and we find ourselves carrying on directly from the end of book one, Deranged Demons. Here we learn about Celzar, King of Perstalia, who intends to make Blake his wife. She and Shade have been separated from her mates, and has been restrained by cuffs which block her ability to use any of her magic including communicating with Shade. This world was thought to be lost and the self-proclaimed King is determined to have Blake's power for his own.
Dante, Callan, Alaric and Nate are all prisoners in the mines, and like Blake, they have been blocked from using magic by way of cuffs. They are forced to bond with one another while trying to work out a way to get to Blake and get out of there. While working towards this, they discover Mason - the fallen Prince of Perstalia and the Kings brother - being beaten by guards while also imprisoned in the mines.
I won't go into further details because it will spoil it for everyone else. But we are left with another cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next installment. And tails, my friends, tails plus we have barbs.
4 stars
Tropes: badass FMC, reverse harem, slow burn, fated mates, magic, fantasy/supernatural, shapeshifters, why choose, multiple POV, royalty romance, strangers to lovers, friends to lovers, portal to another realm, magical creatures, parallel universes, found family, FMMMMM, immortality, elemental magic, protective MMCs, awesome sidekick (Crow named Shade), easy to read
As amazing as book 1 was, that’s just as bad as this one was.
The first half of the book was a load of nothing. Blake and her mates were captured without their powers and no means of escape. It was so slow. I suppose the MMCs made it more bearable. Especially Nate’s humour.
So in this one we actually get Shade’s POV. Damn you know you have a problem when you’re relying on BIRDS for the plot. There was no action. Book 1 had psycho games and dangerous monsters and so much drama. This book? Nothing. The MC’s were separated for most of the first half. And when they finally escaped they were still figuring out a way to remove the magic nulling cuffs and end the evil king.
Blake also loses a lot of her badassery she had in book 1. I get she’s lost her power but cmon she’s a fearless demon princess, channel your inner badass lady. She’s far too caught up in worrying about Shade and her mates throughout, and yeah I get it they’re important to her but girrrrrl bring back my takes no shit demon heiress 🤺🤺
The grammar needs work. I could overlook the bad sentences in the first book cos the plot was so damned good but I can’t in this and it really really grates on me.
Also spoiler: Dante is Kai, Called it! I’m glad that gets cleared up and Blake can finally get dirty with her men. The smut is 🤌🤌
I don’t know why but Shade really pisses me off. That bird is arrogant for such a little thing. Her whole PTSD of being kept in a cage is just weird. I don’t know there’s just something about that bird I don’t like.
The ending did piss me off. Blake decides to head to the angel realm where her dad is instead of heading back home to Seral. Girllll who’s looking after the demon realm??? King Dalton isn’t there so you need to be to stop it from going to shit. The witches could have taken over. Am I the only one with a brain here 😭😭😭
I will probably read the last instalment cos it’d be a damn shame not to finish the series after making it this far.
Prevented from accessing their power through magical cuffs, Princess Blake and her band of disgruntled mates have been imprisoned by the power hungry King Celzar. He plans on marrying Blake and forcefully stealing her magical power during the ceremony. Meanwhile, her mates are forced to mine for crystals. Can Blake outwit the king, save her mates, and continue her quest to unlock her true power?
Like the last book, Blake largely has to do the heavy lifting in the plot. She is still delightful to read about as she is very resourceful and motivated. Thankfully we do get more interactions between the males in this book, as there is forced bonding time between Nate, Prince Callan, Alaric, and Dante as they are stuck mining. While it is enjoyable to flesh out their histories, the majority of the interactions between the men remain somewhat superficial. Being separated from Blake makes all of them realize that they prefer to be with her, but this feeling seems more like pressure from the urge to complete the fated mate bond, rather than true affection for Blake. For example, Prince Callan realizes that he has been treating Blake rather abysmally, and appears to finally change his mind on finalizing the bond. But this decision seems to be made of shame after watching another mate treat her well, rather than a true appreciation of Blake or development of feelings for her. At this point, the only mate I truly believes loves Blake is Dante. Hopefully as the series progress we will get more relationship development between the characters.
Overall, Ruthless Monsters is an enjoyable romp that continues the story from Deranged Demons. I continue to look forward to the next installment of the series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book picks up from the cliffhanger. Blake is captured by King Cezar who intends to make her his bride. Her mates are enslaved to mine crystals while making plans to escape and save her. The majority of this book centers on this plot and only at the end do they make it back home.
Blake is away from her mates for most of the book while the men tolerate some male bonding time when they're stuck in the cells. They meet another prisoner, Mason, who is King Cezar's brother. What role does he have in escaping? Why does he get POVS….(wink wink)
I only wish this book was a bit longer. The King is taken care of fairly easily and it felt nothing more than a side quest to the overall plot. Blake believes she has found all five of her mates now. (Gotta catch them all! ) One is definitely still holding out, one is starting to accept it, and the other three are all for bonding. There are still questions surrounding Nate, Alaric, and Callan though. Hopefully we get some answers in the next book.
Also, the lingering question of bonding and her accidentally killing one of them is resolved a bit oddly and accepted too quickly. There are questions regarding some dark magic involved in it as well.
Even with these flaws, it made for a quick read.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Blake finds herself without her mates and being told she is to marry the king of this place called New Haven. Nearly everyone in this land wears a cuff that keeps their magical abilities and/or forms from being accessible. Blake is unable to speak to Shade until the hand maiden getting her ready for her engagement party is able to work around the cuff to give her back the ability to speak to Shade.
While Blake is dealing with her impending nuptials her mates find themselves working in a mine. They quickly discovered attempting to use their magic was very painful. They also watch guards viciously beating another prisoner whom they deduce is the kings brother.
This book is full of new revelations and we find answers to questions we didn't even know we had.
What do a Drozac assassin, a shifter thief, a moody archangel prince, a playboy demon, and a fallen prince all have in common? Well they all have to work together in hopes of escaping the mines, finding Blake, and taking down the crazy king.
As this book comes to an end we are thrown another curve ball that leaves you begging for book 3. I'm so engrossed in this storyline and I can't wait to see what is next for this band of merry misfits. Also, can't wait to get more information about some of the other men who still have secrets.
This series has been incredible so far. Ruthless Monsters picks right back up where Deranged Demons stopped and it sucked me right back into Blake's story. I really liked that she was separated from the guys for the majority of the book. I think it gave the guys some time to try and get along, not that it was 100% effective, as well as have them rethink their views on having a fated mate. Some of the guys are still a bit stubborn on the idea, but I think they are slowly warming up to the idea, while the rest are fully on board. Blake and Shade definitely stole the limelight in this book. Their points-of-view were the ones that really drove the story forward and I loved that Shade even got a few chapters of her own. Her dialogue and inner thoughts always crack me up. I also enjoyed the world building in this book with the Demons and Perstalia and how they were sort of linked for a longtime poor decision that caused issues for more than just the people of Perstalia. It really makes you think about how much more is interconnected in this world and how Blake is going to solve the issues between the different races. As far as it seems now, each one is going to have an issue that needs to be solved and it will be Blake and her guys to the rescue, even if they are forced into the situation.
"Ruthless Monsters" is the second book in this paranormal why choose series, and I absolutely loved the path the story took. There is plenty happening in this second book, and I enjoyed all the plot-driven twists this author managed to write down. The relationship building is part of the story, but is interwoven with everything else in a way it seems to happen quite naturally. Still, there are a few of Blake's mates left that deserve a punch or two... Luckily we still have Dante, and a new surprise in this second book, to make up for them.
This is one of those series that really sucks me in from the moment I start reading. It has an intriguing storyline with plenty of twists and turns, lots of plot development and original worldbuilding. Even though this second book picks up after the cliffhanger of part one, and ends in another (mild) cliffhanger, it feels like the author created a storyline within the story with this second book. It's a great way to keep me guessing, and still make me feel like the story ends on exactly the right point. No matter what though, I'm already excited for book three!
Just when I thought this couldn't get any better, it does! One predictable event, thanks to Lady Fate. One absolute jaw dropping moment I didn't see coming, but I found it *chef's kiss.* I knew this was going to end on a cliffhanger, but man, when you get to the end, you'll be frothing at the mouth and impatiently tapping your foot to have the third book in your hands immediately!
Blake is still such a kicka$$ demon princess and honestly, she deserves a happily ever after and soon. This woman is going through hell and back to get her mates and herself back home to Seral. Shadow still has absolute sass and I'm so curious as to her background based on some of the things she said. I continue to have my favorites, Dante and Nate; but I am slowly warming up to the others. Unlike the first book, this is starting to heat up and we get a few spicy scenes with Blake and her delectable men. There are times you just want to shake them and yell "snap out of it, she's your fated mate," but who knows what will happen in book 3. I just hope it comes out soon!!
I had the opportunity to receive a copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
3.5? These books are so short but I don't think anything is truly missing.. yet* I have no faith that all the questions we've been building up will be answered sufficiently in the third (last) book after this. & the two hold outs for the bonding are annoying me, I don't understand their reservations and there's no attempt at actually explaining them. So they've been kidnapped and separated by an unknown species in the realm they thought was abandoned by a power hungry (& stealing) psycho who has enslaved his people. I Love the Shade chapters. I could use more male POV chapters. I liked the birds, could use more of those interactions. I like Mason, yes, good addition, immediate utter devotion, good. Their struggles ended too easily for me.. like there was, what?, a day? between Shade reaching the guys, her convincing psycho to let her see her mates, and the rebels timed it perfectly to get them all out together?? Too easy. Now, the wedding ceremony events was more refreshing. Wasn't the simplest answer, there was room for failure, and the ending didn't require her to get her hands dirty (as she doesn't like to do).
Who doesn't love a little tail action and it just gets better with tails and barbed penis from one of Blake’s many mates. Blake has been through a lot to meet her mates due to her father’s games. Thinking they are going home only to find that they have gone to another world and more action and uncertainty.
With everyone being locked up in this new and strange world they have a lot to work through individually and together to get themselves out of the trouble they are in as well as helping everyone else.
When they think they are then going home they arrive to find things are not going as well at home.
Tropes: Royalty romance, reverse harem, dual POV, FMMMMM, strangers to lovers, friends to lovers, love triangle, fated mates, paranormal, portal to another realm, magical creatures, elemental magic, parallel universes, found family, shapeshifters, magical transformation, Immortality, mind manipulation.
Triggers: Kidnapping, bullying, racism (against other entities), death, violence, blood, gore, emotional abuse, torture, locked in dungeons.
This is the second book in this series and I am really loving it!
Something went wrong with the portal at the end of the previous book and instead of going back to Seral Blake and her mates are imprisoned in the underground city of The Haven. Seperated and powerless due to some iron cuffs things look pretty bleak as they have to deal with a deranged king who wants one thing and one thing only ... Blakes power. And it looks like he is going to kill her to get it.
It was really interesting how the relationships changed in this book. The four men were imprisoned together while separated from Blake so the group dynamic did change. I wouldn't say they are all best buddies but I do think that they can tolerate each other a little better now! The introduction of a new character was interesting too, just to shake things up a little. As if it needed shaking up! But i do like him. Bit of a cliffhanger at the end just because things can't just run smoothly for this group, and I am looking forward to the next book so much!
So we pick up from the cliffhanger of Book1. Blake was just trying to get home with her 4 mates but the portal sucks them into a different realm where they are captured by King Celzar. He claims Blake as his wife-to-be and enslaves her mates in his crystal mine. Hmmm. Another waylaying? Could this mean Blake is expecting more company in her group????? Blake is separated from them for most of the book...but at least she still has Shade. Right??? And the guys in forced close quarters...maybe they can start to work together and become friends? Yeah, right! Strength, perserverance and the mate bond struggle to rejoin Blake and her guys. But how to get away from the evil king who has chained and blocked not only their powers but his whole society as well. Who can help them? Great on the edge of your seat intrigue and awesome nail-biting ending to lure us into Book 3!

Princess Blake and her fated mates made it through the twisted competition her father staged in the first book only to be kidnapped by the Persalian king and held captive. He's using her mates lives as collateral to get her to marry him. She doesn't know why he's so determined to have her but there's a strange magic in this land keeping her and the Persalian people fun using their powers. She needs to figure out how to escape, rescue her mates, and return to her own kingdom before its too late. I enjoyed this second part of Blake's story as she and her mates fall into another adventure. They're all becoming closer and it seems like bonding is the best solution to access their full powers, but still not everybody is convinced. There's a lot of action and world building in this book as well and only a few spicier scenes. I can't wait to see what they can do when they become true mates. On to the next adventure!!
I did feel that having Blake separated from her mates for half the book was a little tiresome, but the various points of view did reveal more about the character of her mates.
I found the POVs from Shade her crow companion to be a fun addition considering how important Shade is to Blake along with her mates. I wasn’t shocked to see a fifth and final member added to Blake’s harem and I really like that Mason was immediately on board instead of the hesitation we see from Alaric and Callan.
I didn’t really feel that the side quest of this book was needed with the corrupt king of The Haven kidnapping them all considering the witches storyline is already intriguing enough.
Another note that this book is very low on spice, but again, despite it being a RH book, I enjoyed the storyline enough to overlook this shortcoming.
Onto the next one I guess.

We are back for book 2 in “Game of psychos” series. book 2 continues straight off after book 1 and there is a lot more happening in the book. Overall I think book 2 is stronger than book 1 in this series. There is more character development, more plot focus, more world building and a little spice.
The FMC Blake had a lot of growth in this book but I also think she seemed a little more damsel in distress in this book compared to the feisty demon in book 1. With that being said her relationship with her mates grows and I liked it more in this book, although there is still a lot of dislike to love in this book and a whole lot of Tortures male love interests. I love Dante the most out of the mates even with his big secret reveal.
Again we are left in the middle of a plot twist. Overall a good book!
