꒰💼꒱ the life of nelson mandela by rod green

↪ no rating since it's a biography !

💭 | my overall thoughts.
----> this is a thoroughly researched book that chronicles the life of one of the world's most inspirational individuals, renowned for his battle against racism, apartheid, inequality, and injustice in south africa. his remarks are incredibly impactful and profound for people. there are no limits to what he accomplished for his nation and its citizens. he even got himself imprisoned because of the stand he took for his people. he dedicated his life to changing the lives of his people and his nation, so much so that he forgot to live for himself too.

❝ your freedom and mine cannot be separated. i will return.❞

----> the book itself provides a deep insight into Nelson Mandela's life and struggles, accompanied with lots of pictures related to the topics, and footnotes for better comprehension. i obviously cannot comment on the writing style since it's a simple biography, written in a way to make it as easy to understand as possible.

❝ if you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. then he becomes your partner.❞

----> overall, this biography is a must-read for anyone who has ANY interest in the history of our world and the people who worked to make it a better place.

❝ i have fought against white domination, and i have fought against black domination. i have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons will live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. it is an ideal which i hope to live for and to see realized. but, my Lord, if needs be, it is an ideal for which i am prepared to die.❞

A book well researched that tells the story of one of the most inspiring figures of the World, well known for fighting against apartheid, racism, inequalities and injustices in South Africa. He is also known as the Gandhi of South Africa. His words are so powerful and profound to humanity. What he did for his country and people is beyond the sky and the universe. He was jailed for fighting for freedom and just society in South Africa. He has lived his entire life with a vision to transform his country and his people's lives. He don't remember he lived for himself. He always wanted to serve his people and transform the country into a free democratic process where all citizens are treated equally irrespective of the race and colour. In 1994, he became the first black president of the South Africa at 74 years old after struggling for almost 4 decades of huge sacrifices in his live. A very powerful and inspiring story to read. This book also contains pictures and image of the stories portrayed in the book which helps the reader to connect and contextualise. Must read.

for Mandela; 11 out of 10 stars. world owes to you a lot, Sir.

while for this book written by Rod Green; 2 out of 5. the photos doesn't support the thing he described in the same exact page. when talking about the young Mandela whose first came to the big city Johannesburg, the photos is about Mandela posed Sosweto Gospel Choir after they won their second Grammy Award in 2008 (why it jumps so many years, and what's the correlation..)
While talking about Nelson who was just appointed as national volunteer-in-chief campaign to fought Apartheid, the photo is about Nelson Mandela met United States star Ryan Giggs (long silence..)

This book have so many pictures of Mandela. It's a good thing. But most of them doesn't match in events, year, and while the story it self is all good, i get my self annoyed many times with the pictures.

Wonderful and easy to read book about the life of truly one of the greatest people to walk our planet. The photos in the book are also nice and high quality.
I would have given it 5 stars but for the fact that it feels like it ends really abruptly in the year of Mandela's death but not including his death or funeral. It is also missing a chapter or at least a couple of pages reflecting on the huge achievements of Mandela in South Africa and his legacy worldwide.

A detailed account of Nelson Mandela's life accompanied by many photographs. Tremendous accomplishment to survive years of incarceration and during that time negotiate peacefully the end of apartheid. Suitable that he was elected President of South Africa and continued to transition the country towards peaceful co existence of black and white mankind.
