This gives very good advice on what kind of stories publications are looking for, especially as it concerns short stories of horror. Most how-to get published advice books are aimed at novelists in general, so this one is different.

I’ve got it!! Yes indeed I have the ultimate book in my hot little hands on, “How to Get Published By Magazine Editors!” Jeani Rector the editor of the infamous online horror zine, The Horror Zine,” shares tips, tricks, helpful hints, and the scoop on exactly what editors and publishers are looking for in her tell all book! The secrets are out fellow writing enthusiasts! But wait……don’t get too overzealous….she cautions her enthusiastic reader that after reading her book and following her advice there are still no guarantees that you will be published. Face it, we all dream of hitting it big in the publishing world with runaway top sellers like Stephen King, Nora Roberts, and J.K. Rowling to name a few, and we sure can use all the help we can get!

Jeani breaks it down in a very quick and easy to understand “formula” as to what a struggling neophyte writer needs to do in this 139 page to improve upon in order to be considered for publishing. Remember I mentioned that Jeani said she makes no guarantees?

You spent a month slaving over your keyboard writing what you believe is the ultimate story and even had your best friend edit it before submitting it. You just KNEW it was a winner and gleefully submitted it to several different magazines and nothing, not even a rejection letter! It was great and then you wonder what the editor(s) had to be thinking!

Seriously, have you ever wondered what goes through the minds of editors? Jeani addresses that question in the section, “How Magazine Editors Think!” Jeani asked several different editors two questions to give the aspiring writer a better insight as to what they are looking for:
“What do you look for in a short story?” and “What kind of things makes one story stand out over another?”
Pay attention to their answers and to the other chapters in her, “tell all” book on how to get published! Take notes from Jeani as she teaches through her words about making your story stand out to editors. There is even a chapter on writing novels.

Get tips of the trade with the publishing market and ideas on self-publishing. There is a lot of information packed into 82 pages which certainly is helpful and we struggling writers can use all the help we can get!

The remainder of the book consists of examples of short stories and the various elements stressed as important in consideration for publication by editors.

Considering that I am a struggling writer I am always looking for help to improve. I remember when Stephen King’s book, “On Writing” first came out I quickly snagged it with the hopes of gaining insight into the skills I needed. Alas, it just didn’t resonate with me! This book on the other hand shall take a place on the top shelf of my desk in my office between the recent APA manual and my trusty, “American Heritage Dictionary” that is over thirty years old. I see the information contained within, “How To Get Published By Magazine Editors” as valuable and insightful and therefore bestow FIVE STARS *****
Thank you Jeani! And, now I’m off to tap my keys!
