It's been five years since child prodigy, Molly McLane, solved the mystery of the island restaurant saboteur, and now she's all grown up and graduating from Harvard. With offers from every space agency and corporation in America, Molly has some big decisions to make, but all she wants is one last summer on the island to do what she never had the chance to--be a normal teenaged girl. But when danger visits the island once again, Molly finds herself in the middle of a mystery that has the potential to change her life, or end it.
Return to Chincoteague one last time to discover a world outside of space and time with stories filled with sugar and spice in a place of tranquility, where miracles exist, promises are kept, and hope prevails.
Amy has been writing novels, children’s books, and devotionals for almost ten years. In her novels, she brings to life characters who jump off the page with their true-to-life personalities and real world problems and concerns. Their lives center around family, friends, and faith. Her stories–though often fraught with peril–champion love, uphold community, and inspire hope. Amy’s writing has been hailed “a verbal masterpiece of art” (author Alexa Jacobs) and “Everything you want in a book” (Amazon).
A former librarian and teacher, she now lives on the Eastern Shore of Maryland with her husband, three daughters, and two dogs.
Seeking Space and Time by Amy Schisler Reading the last of the Chincoteague Sunsets Trilogy, I continue to be amazed at the writing of Amy Schisler. She paints a vivid picture of Chincoteague and its special place in the hearts of the residents of this quaint shore town. This book focused on Molly, the child prodigy, now grown up, fresh out of Harvard, almost adult, and ready for some normalcy before venturing off on a career. The depictions of Chincoteague and its normal summer activities were so true to a close knit community who share their love for their island and those that join them in the summer for vacation. With the families of Chincoteague, their friends, and new acquaintances; new opportunities arise and new intrigues are ventured. In the end, Molly made some great analytical finds, decided on a future career, and remains to love her family and friends on Chincoteague Island. I look forward to spending some time on the island someday and will think about all the characters that we have been introduced to and learned more about in the now 6 books featured on Chincoteague Island. I feel like I know the place. There is only one way to find out….visit, explore, and savor the time on the island.
In Amy Schisler’s contemporary romance and final book in the Chincoteague Sunsets Trilogy, “Seeking Space and Time,” a recently graduated seventeen-year-old’s summertime plans to spend it like a “normal” person take an unexpected turn, drastically altering her priorities.
Molly McLane, a recent Harvard graduate, has been granted the largest internship at Wallops for the next few months. Moreover, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have both tried to recruit her, offering her a starting salary of $200,000. Surprisingly, she has different ideas. She wants to spend the summer away from science, working at Holly’s Cafe, to live a “normal” life like everybody else. Since she can now truly be herself, travel, meet new people, and even dance, she has never been happier. She wants to start dating, but because she is miles ahead of everyone intellectually, she is concerned that she may never meet someone whose intelligence matches hers.
Her newly found life is abruptly disrupted when the Wallops Island Flight Facility, where she formerly worked, has a security breach and a large amount of confidential material is taken. The top scientist and facility manager, Dr. Simon Johnson, wants her to investigate the crime. He was previously surprised by her capacity to think things through when no one else could. This is no small task for the youngster, who has seemingly been thrown into adulthood too soon.
This captivating story revolves around a likable young heroine who has introduced ground-breaking concepts and advanced technological advancements that have stunned the space community. We witness her grow into a mature decision-maker as she mulls over the qualities that make her who she is. It is amazing how she manages to do the seemingly impossible and pave her own path while being true to her morals and beliefs despite her young age.
Her interaction with a scientific nerd, who initially did not think highly of her, brings to light the question of whether science and faith can co-exist. Her background, family history, teenage aspirations, and personal struggles are all thoughtfully taken into account in this story, which effectively conveys the very genuine feelings and worries that accompany the passage from childhood to maturity.
Throughout the novel, there are recurring themes of space and time, two universal mysteries that provoke thought—one created by God, the other by man. Even though the novel is lengthy, its simple language and engaging plot will keep readers interested and attentive.
“Seeking Space and Time” by Amy Schisler provides a unique opportunity to peek into a brilliant young mind solving real-world issues. It lives up to its expectations and is one of those novels you’ll be telling friends.
Molly, only 17, is the valedictorian graduate of Harvard University. A science genius, she wants a normal summer in her hometown of Chincoteague before she takes a lucrative job far from home. A typical teenager job, time on the beach with friends, flirting with boys...while she works out how to balance her faith with her interest in science. A rival Harvard student complicates her life as does a crime at the nearby NASA facility that Molly feels compelled to solve. (In an earlier book, Molly figured out who was sabotaging local restaurants.)
Author Amy Schisler has given readers a charming small-town story that's a mash-up of several genres. It's a crime novel, a romance, a coming of age story, all with a hint of Catholic inspiration.
Welcome back to Chincoteague where Molly wants a "normal" summer. This means doing what other kids her age are doing at the age of 18 and not working as a summer intern at Wallops. Of course there are bad guys out stealing computer information and parts to rockets, then an arrest, someone trying to kill an entire family and blossoming romance. Not to mention all the great restaurants and places mentioned in the book. (You had me at Marsh Mud - all time favorite!) Finding out that faith and science can co-exist.
Hope there are more stories coming with these characters and the island of my dreams.
Rounded up because I read it out of order and might have been more invested if I had read in order.
A child prodigy Molly graduates valedictorian from Harvard at 18. She returns to Chincoteague wanting a normal summer before choosing what to do. First her nemesis from Harvard has an internship with her brother-in-law on the island. Then the past threatens the summer and her family.
Amy once again draws you in to the lives of the families on the Chincoteague Island. You become engrossed in the excitement of romance, adventure, suspense and the struggles of a young woman trying to figure out the best path for her future. I couldn't put this book down, and was sad when it ended!
