‘Struck by lightning!’ – a fear becomes a victory
Author Douglas Greenlaw is a highly respected CEO in the Media Industry and a coach in business leadership training and corporate governance. He is the founder of The Greenlaw Foundation providing funding for Veteran Programs for Suicide Prevention, Homelessness, and for the catastrophically wounded. How he rose to his current important status is the message of this autobiography/memoir.
The phrase ‘struck by lightning’ is ominous in conversations, but surviving such an ordeal as a lad is where the story begins. Greenlaw not only survived that episode, but went on to the challenges and terrors of the Vietnam conflict – a period of his life he describes exceptionally well, as those of us who served in the military and fought in that war can attest. A man of extraordinary courage and resilience, he faced even more barriers on his post military time climbing the ladder to his success in the corporate world. Given all the background he supplies in this memoir, his laudable strength and generosity in his continuing concern and care for fellow veterans is deeply inspiring. This exceptional book should be widely read, not only as a memoir, but also as a path from adversity to success. Very highly recommended.

My father was killed in action in Vietnam, serving during the same years Doug Greenlaw was there (1967-1968). Reading Forged by Lightning helped me better understand what a young man endured-the danger, the trauma, and the strength it took to survive and move forward.
Some stories were difficult to read, but l am grateful Doug told them. The book kept me deeply engaged and was hard to put down. It offers an honest glimpse into the war and into how Vietnam veterans were treated when they returned home.
Doug also shares how his experiences helped shape his career in media, offering another example of how he moved forward after the war.
