Promises are lies dressed up for the party.

Secrets poison the fairest of fairy tales.

Lies stain the purest of loves.

I've paid the ultimate price for my choices. The tendrils of those sins bind me to my past. The remnants of my love hold me captive.

Then he walks into my life and makes me believe in second chances. He awakens feelings in my I know I shouldn't have. I yearn for a future without guilt. With him, I dream of a love untainted.

Regret is a far reaching emotion. It barrels through time like a blazing comet, and its path isn't always straight. No matter what I feel, I cannot bring myself to regret the time I've spent with Cain.

But it doesn't mean I can have him.

My name is Celia Lemaire, and this is my story of broken promises.

An emotionally charged read full of Storms Overflowing with all the feels. Storm Over Secrets is a story about life, loss and love that at times was heartbreakingly sad but overall made me smile, laugh and swoon.
“Promises are lies dressed up for the party.
Secrets poison the fairest of fairy tales.
Lies stain the purest of loves.”

Celia Lemaire is drowning in a sea of regret, secrets, lies and broken promises of her own making. Several years ago she promised her first love to hide his deteriorating mental condition from everyone, including his family, without thinking of the consequences, incapable of truly helping him and unknowing that this decision would take the situation to a distressing point of no return.
“Promises will be the death of me; this is the one truth I know with complete and utter certainty.”

Now she’s living in limbo. Tied to a past that she’ll never get back and unable to move forward, even when she wants nothing more than to have a life with Cain who makes her laugh and want happiness for herself. Can she find forgiveness, let go of her past and reach for a bright future?
“Thank you for today. When I’m with you… I forget to be sad.”
“Do you know what comes after forgetting to be sad? … Actually wanting to be happy. You think you’re ready for that?”
“I don’t know, but I think I’d like to try… with you, I want to try so badly.”

Cain Bennett leads a content, relaxed life. He’s definitely not looking for love or commitment. But when he meets his new fairy size tenant, his stress-free plans are thrown away and replaced with a determination to make Celia see how good they can be together. Can he break down her walls and convince her to let him love her or will the shackles of her past continue to hold her hostage?
“I crash my lips to hers and take what I want… what I need. I want to swallow her grief and replace it with every magical and hypnotic feeling she breathes into me. I want her to know she is more that her sorrow.”

I really love J.A.’s writing so I hope you're OK with all the quotes I'm using. There were just so many it was really hard to choose from. J.A.'s writing has a lyrical quality that makes me enjoy each and every word, take in every comma, period and everything in between from the soul searing, angsty and drama filled moments to the easygoing fun and laughter, the touching sweetness and the smoldering sexiness. I was totally addicted and unwilling to put down this story.
“She feels too good in my arms… too right. Her tiny waist that my hands nearly wrap around, her blue eyes deep as the darkest ocean waters, her addictive laugh that flows through my veins like electricity, lighting up every part of me; she’s creeping into my head, my heart, and my soul.”
___________________________________
“The wind dies away, the stars stop mid-twinkle, and the moon shuts its eyes. The world holds its breath, waiting for the kiss that will finally free me from these chains. And when his lips touch mine, we all exhale.”

I had met both Cain and Celia previously and knew their story would be a worthwhile struggle. Reading from both points of view helped me get to know and love them more. I felt so much for Celia and the situation she was in. Even if she was the one to put herself there I was gutted by her sorrow. But contrasting this, was Celia’s sassiness and spunk that made me laugh. I loved the way she answered Cain’s comebacks with her own and admired her tender heart and inner strength.

And how could I not fall for the sexy, playful, laidback caveman Casanova. He’s sweet, caring, protective and a determined alpha male with boyish charm. I was delighted by how he took care and loved his family. I loved how he made Celia smile and reminded her there’s a wonderful life to live. And once he decided to make her his I thought there would be nothing to stop him.
“Her hand moves over my heart, close to her lips. Her mouth curves into a sweet smile as she taps lightly, mimicking the rhythm of my heart… A single thought rolls through my mind – the only truth I know deep in my soul. It beats for you.”

The friendship, connection and chemistry between them made my heart flutter like a butterfly with excitement. Their playful banter and sweetness not only provoked smiles, but also made me hope for them to find happiness together.
“I grasp under her arms and pull her high above my head. She peeks down at me, sunshine filtering through her wispy blonde hair, eyes dancing, and glittered feet poking me in the stomach. She looks magical, angelic, almost dreamlike. Without any forethought, acting on pure instinct and overwhelming need, I bench-press her down to my lips, capturing her bottom lip between mine.”

But it was saddening to see how much Celia was standing in her own way. How even though she dedicated her life to help and counsel others, she kept everything bottled up and didn’t seek out help for herself. I was crushed how she repeatedly pushed Cain away knowing how much he loved her and how great her life with him could be. I wanted to slap both her and Cain silly because as much as Celia was obstructing herself, I wanted to demand Cain to push and fight for both of them.
“I know he was the love of your life. I get it. I really do. But what if I told you that you were mine? I have enough love for the both of us. I know I do.”
___________________________________
“Cain woke me up. The world had color again. My laughter was true. My love was real. And now he’s gone and I have no one to blame but myself.”

From moment he first called her Tiny, to the moment their hearts connected, to the time when all seemed lost I was right there with them. I felt everything Cain and Celia went through. I could keep writing about all the times I was touched by this story but I would probably transcribe the entire book and spoil you while doing so.
“My heart isn’t mine to give. I wish it were, but I lost it a long time ago. I don’t think I can be what you need. What you deserve. I’m not available for that sort of thing,” she whispers softly. Her expression is pained, and I want to fight her. I want to tell her how wrong she is – her heart isn’t lost, it’s only confused.

I enjoyed the way J.A. took us from past to present to tell this story that involves much more than just the hero and heroine. And the appearances by past characters rounded off the story perfectly. I really liked reading how Alex and West, Adam and Sarah’s relationships unfolded from a different perspective. I also adored Cain’s caring and supportive family who welcomed Celia with open, loving arms.
“You and Celia as a team? Y’all are f*ck!ng awesome. You all by your lonesome? Only slightly awesome. It’s like cookies with no milk.”

This book includes a lot of touching real life topics. It’s about forgiveness, acceptance, about loss and various forms in which we can experience it. It’s about life and making mistakes, but knowing we can try and fix them, it’s about love and taking hold of it.
“Love isn’t about a perfect start or a flawless journey. The stains are the good part – they make everything you’re fighting for real and unique. The key to finding love and keeping it is embracing the stains…”

I was absorbed with J.A.’s third installment in the Over series from its tragically suspenseful prologue to its sweet happy ending. The book can be read as a standalone. If you like contemporary love stories with bumpy roads but amazing endings, this is a book for you.
“She rests her head on my shoulder and sighs with a contented smile playing on her lips. I can’t help it; I feel like the master of the universe.”

Oh this was fantastic! Such great main characters with such emotional intrigue. This is one book not to be missed! The author goes all out with this story and captivated me from page one. Humor, heartbreak, and triumph are depicted within these enthralling pages.

Cain Bennett is one cocky male. He’s funny and charming. And, Celia Lemaire just can’t help but be attracted to him. Celia, though, can’t even begin to get involved with Cain. She has a secret, one that is pretty much hidden until about three-quarters of the book, one that I was shocked to learn. I was definitely thinking another way through most of the book. I thought one thing, but was totally rocked when something else came to light. The author does a great job of hiding certain details of Celia’s past. She’s so torn about what to do. Cain could possibly be a future for her, but she pushes him away time and time again because of the guilt that is her past. When the truth is finally revealed, the reader finds out just what an awesome guy Cain is when he makes it his mission to help an innocent but deeply mentally disturbing individual. Cain was such a beautiful man both inside and out! And, he proves this to Celia by his unselfish and caring heart.

This was such a beautiful story!! I really felt for the girl who was just trying to do the right thing by remaining loyal while giving up her heart’s desire. Everything comes full circle when all the truths and feelings are finally revealed. Man, tears were shed as I couldn’t help but feel Celia’s pain. She, too, was a remarkable character. She’s funny and easy going. She’s just one that just makes you smile. The supporting characters were also amazing. All playing their parts perfectly. The friends and the family members all showing their support and love for their loved one. This is book three of a series, but I had no problem reading it as a standalone. The stories are all linked by friendships. Narrated by both Celia and Cain alternating between both the past and the present gives the reader incite into what they’re both thinking as their romance takes shape. Such a great way to tell their story to readers. Book 4 is next when it promises to tell Marlo’s story. So, looking forward to it!!

“I’ve lived a life overrun with gravity and momentum. My choices run parallel with the current of circumstance. Not anymore. I’m through with gravity. I loathe momentum. I crave the turbulence of emotions. I want the push, the pull, the ache, the fall. I want the storms.” ~ Celia (Chap. 36)

There are not enough good things to say about this book so I'm simply going to suggest it as a MUST READ. This was the first book I've read by this incredibly talented author and I'll tell you right now, it will not be the last. In fact I've already one-click the others in this series.

Rather than give you a recap of this beautiful book, what you need to know...JA's writing is flawless, intriguing, poetic, and hilarious. The one liners had me laughing out loud and reciting them back in my own version of a sassy Cajun accent. Cain is the PERFECT book boyfriend, like no joke, smoking hot, funny as hell, sweet as honey, and unforgettable. Celia is everything I love about a heroine even though I wanted to shake her at times, but everything she did came from her heart and Celia, the feisty little fairy, is all heart. Every secondary character found a way into my heart and will remain there for a very long time; I'm so glad I get to revisit them in the rest of the Over Series. This books is full of unexpected twists, a few OMGs, kindle throwing, belly laughing, heart thumping, and so much more.

You need some Cain Bennett in your life...like now!

I didn't think it was possible to love this series more, but JA DeRouen was truly saving the very best for last! Cain and Celia's story completely blew me away and had me both laughing and crying like a baby! This is the third book in the interconnected Over series, but it can be read as a stand alone. As I've said before, however, I do recommend reading the previous books because they're amazing and because characters from those books appear in this one. It will also help you to truly appreciate the emotional journey that Cain and Celia make throughout this series.

Oh Cain, you had me at cratchel. Seriously, I have loved Cain throughout this series for all of his hilarious jokes and banter, but also for being such a loyal and loving friend. I couldn't wait to get to his story and finally being able to get a glimpse into his heart and mind was incredible. Yes, it's a heart wrenching journey, but it's also one filled with love, acceptance, and understanding. He truly is a gentle giant and it will be impossible for readers to not fall in love with him. His connection with Celia was so genuine and beautiful that their love (and heartbreak) were palpable. My poor heart couldn't keep up sometimes with the emotions that were pouring off the page. They fight so hard to do what they consider to be the right thing, that you can't help but root for them to get their happily ever after.

I really liked that there was overlap again within the timeline of the books, so you could experience what was happening with other characters during events that you're already familiar with. Getting small updates and continuations of Adam & Sara's, as well as Alex & West's stories, was also so wonderful and heart warming. The secondary characters did not disappoint again this time around, and I absolutely loved Cain's family! They are wonderfully crazy and oh my goodness, the stories from Cain's childhood had me laughing until I had tears in my eyes! (Ahem, the JC Penny catalog and the toilet seat incident!!!) I think the best part of this book though, was the twist that I didn't see coming AT ALL. Boy was it a doozy!! It kicked the emotions and anguish to a whole new level, but it also made the journey so incredibly fulfilling. I cannot recommend this series enough and I hope everyone will read these books and experience the magic that is JA DeRouen!

"If you leave me again, I won't give you space. I'll love you harder and deeper than ever before."

Gripping and consuming - this emotional, intense heartbreaking extraordinary story owned me from the first to very last page. This book stirred up emotions that I didn't even know I had. I had to repeatedly put this down to cry several times, it was just so heartfelt. The love between the characters made it even more powerful to be the remarkable and unforgettable story that the story already was.

Storms Over Secrets is raw and honest it's gut wrenching. The intensity of the story is just a powerhouse. Reading this book hearts are bared open and feelings will be poured out. Cain and Celia have explosive chemistry that packs a punch. Each and every book J.A DeRouen writes is deeply moving with a narrative that’s enrapturing.

Overall, I loved the premise, I loved how it tug at the deepest parts of my heart it was real and beautiful and this is the type of book I really love. It felt so real to me, I felt every character, every moment.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Breathtaking. Emotional. I am in absolute awe of the sheer beauty and strength of this story and the characters. If there was a recipe book with the must have elements of romance, this would be THE book to include.

“Let me wash it all way, Celia.”

Celia Lemaire’s life is tainted with her past. She is consumed with guilt and regret because of the secrets she kept long ago. Secrets that haunt her an entire six years later. She blames herself. She thought her love could save, but she soon learns that sometimes, just sometimes love isn’t strong enough. Or is it? Cain Bennett feels a pull towards Celia the moment they meet. They hit things off right away, easily falling into a funny and light hearted banter. Cain has never wanted a relationship or to even get to know someone on that level. He’s content with his life. He has everything he needs. But Celia? She’s different.

“Promises will be the death of me; this is the one truth I know with complete and utter certainty.”

Celia made promises. Promises she know she’s always meant to keep. But they tear at her. Her spirit no longer the same. Stuck in the past, while living in the present. You feel her anguish. You understand her pain. Her heart is not hers to give away. And probably not ever. As Cain tries to get to know Celia he encounters her guarded heart. And he wants in. Celia tries to ignore her feelings. Why give into something that cannot belong to you? What happens when a love so powerful and consuming threatens the secrets and promises in the past? Well Cain’s heart SPEAKS louder. He does something so selfless. So moving. He finds Celia’s heart and literally takes it as his soul tells him that her heart beats for his.

“I feel it. I feel you. And no matter what you say, I know I have your heart. I know it beats for me.”

While this book is full of heartache, it’s also one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever read. Celia cannot fully give herself to Cain. Not without going through the storm. But eventually being without Cain is no longer an option. She wants the pain, the ache. She understands choosing love over secrets and promises comes with a price. And she wants it all. She wants the storms. Because love with Cain? It’s worth it. He’s worth it. His love is all consuming and powerful. He loves fiercely. And she wants nothing more than to embed herself in his heart.

“I know he was the love of your life. I get it, I really do. But what if I told you that you were mine?”

The connection between Cain and Celia is electric. Their story? Addicting. Putting this book down is not an option. The author puts you within the pages of their story. The characters are forever ingrained in my heart. And I have no doubt they will find a place in yours. Celia and Cain love with a love that is so paramount. They love unconditionally. Without boundaries. They love with everything. Despite the secrets and promises, their love triumphs. But this is no easy story. I could never compare this to anything else as this book is in a class of all it’s own. It’s not predictable. Their story goes places where others don’t. I found their story inspirational. Captivating. The writing in Storms Over Secrets is flawless. The words are mesmerizing .The author truly shows how much heart she puts into writing in not only the execution of the story, but the depth of her characters. Has there ever been such a beautiful love story?

“The key to finding love and keeping it is embracing the stains...the scars...”

Storms Over Secrets is an emotionally charged story that moved me. It is thought provoking, heart breaking , and a true testament to all that love encompasses. For love prevails. It overcomes.

Promises are lies dressed up for the party. Secrets poison the fairest of fairy tales. Lies stain the purest of loves.

Celia Lamaire has paid the ultimate price for her choices. Her sins are bound so tight that her past holds her captive. A promise that Celia feels she can't break.

Cain Bennett appears in Celia's life offering promises of a second chance. Feelings she thought were gone forever resurface. Hope starts to overshadow the pain, but regret and guilt won't let her move forward, or so she feels.

I was sucked into this story just as I was the first two. I was on the edge of my seat until the last page.

With all of the dynamics of the characters I highly recommend you read the first two books. The author uses both Cain and Celia's POV's which gives you an undeniable understanding of how they feel. Share in their laughter and tears and yes, their love.

I can’t wait to read more from this author. Her characters are relatable and the situations are real. Be prepared to ride the emotional roller-coaster.

Words fail me when it comes to this book. It stayed with me. Celia has such an amazing heart. Cain is such a sweet, sexy, funny character. Everything about it was incredible. There were twists and turns I was NOT expecting. J.A. DeRouen definitely kept me on my toes. Her writing was flawless, the characters were so amazingly crafted, and the story? Blew me away. I can't recommend this book highly enough. You DEFINITELY want to want to pick up Storms Over Secrets! You will not regret it!

2.5 stars. At best... And only due to the narrators... Actually, they deserve 5, but this isnt a rating of their performance, but the book.
Cain is great. GREAT! Celia, on the other hand, is one of the stupidest female leads I've ever read. She makes me so mad!!!!!
And Audrey, the so-called "best friend"... Ugh! I HATE HER.
So my stars are only for Cain... And for the narrators. Both did an AMAZING job; I want Teddy Hamilton to whisper to me every night until I fall asleep ❤

"Promises will be the death of me; this is the one truth I know with complete and utter certainty. I drop my head to the table and touch my forehead to our clasped hands. “I promise,” I whisper."

Here is another book from J.A. Derouen that will go down as an amazing read. She has this way of writing a book that you know you will love, but manages to throw in those twist and turns that keep pulling you in deep for more. I think the thing I loved most about this book was the constant guess of how it will end. How can it end in a way that doesn't destroy you. And isn't that the point of the book? Isn't that what J.A. is trying to portray with Celia? Well, mission accomplished. And I won't give anything away, so I'll stop there with that line of thought. Just know that this book delivers on what is promised.

Now, I was a little worried about reading this book because I LOVE Wings Over Poppies and West is my number one man .... and it's still my favorite ... but dear god, did I love Cain. Oh man ... if I love West for his dark and broody ways, I love Cain for his light and loving ways. I can't think of many male MC that I have read similar to Cain. He is unique in his resilience and downright stubbornness, mixed with his deep caring of everyone. I love that man. He is both extremely sexy and manages to make jokes in every situation without taking away from the sexiness. That was probably my favorite part of the whole book. Just watching the interacting of Celia and Cain; of reading about Cain.

"But there are moments that have marked my life—where an overwhelming sense of clarity washes over me, and a new sense of purpose arises. Like the click of a kaleidoscope bringing everything into focus, or veins of water running down a window to leave a clear pane of glass, these flashes make the pieces of my life fall firmly into place. This … right here and now … is one of those moments. “Remembering? Feeling loss? It’s a normal part of the human condition. I think grieving can be a way for us to stay connected to the ones we’ve lost. Do you know what else is part of the human condition?” A slight head tilt is the only answer she gives me. “Living, Celia. Even in the face of unimaginable loss, it’s okay to live.” - Cain

I love Celia also. I don't think i got a good feel for who she was in the other books and I was so excited to get to know her better in this book. She is so strong and just as sweet as Cain. I really just love the two of these characters together. This story was different in a way that was great. It wasn't typical and it just felt good. I'm rambling and I know I haven't told you much about the story, but I don't want to give anything away .. Just know that the characters are amazing and you will fall in love with them. And the story is awesome!

“There is nothing in this world I want more than to be buried deep inside you. Not. One. Thing. But when I take you, I want to know I’m all you see. No memories, no regrets, no one but you and me. I want you to be all mine, Celia, and when you can do that, that’s when you get all of me. Okay?” - Cain

So why not a full five stars? The romance was a little lacking in the beginning. I felt their friendship grow, but I think that friendship was supposed to be more of a relationship. So when they got together, I will still stuck in a friendship thoughts and not mentally prepared for the depth of their relationship. But that's okay because I got caught up really quick. One more quick thing about this book. I don't think I have ever... EVER ... read a book that made me FEEL the longing between two characters better than I did in this book. Good gawd! It was palpable and I loved the amount of emotion evoked from me as a reader.

"He’s not my type, like at all, but he’s got his own swagger, ya know? He’s all ‘Oh, I’m so tall. Look at my ginormous green bean,’” Marlo mimics in a deep, husky voice while grabbing her crotch." - Marlo

Finally, I am dying for Marlo's story. I have been wanting her story since Hope Over Fear. I can't freaking wait! Don't miss out on all her other books and get caught up. J.A. Derouen writes in a way I love and keeps me hanging on for more. Enjoy!

” I’ve lived a life overrun with gravity and momentum. My choices run parallel with the current of circumstance. Not anymore. I loathe momentum. I crave the turbulence of emotions. I want the push, the pull, the ache, the fall. I want the storms.”

What an amazing story. I mean, just wow! I have been waiting. I mean waiting for Celia’s story and now that I’ve read it, let me tell you, it totally blew me away.

Storms Over Secrets made me feel so many things. My heart just ached for Cain and Celia; for the unfairness of the situation. These two characters both deserved to be happy. See Cain was just floating in life, jumping from one bed to another and as soon as he got bored or things got complicated, he bailed. That is until Celia popped into his life. Celia was a game changer. While she had her own ghosts that haunted her, Cain couldn’t help but be drawn her. He saw something in her that he couldn’t ignore. He wanted to desperately bring her back to life…. Celia is just a shell of the woman she used to be. She is still paying the price from one mistake she made many years ago. That mistake has caused her to live a life filled with guilt and has never really given her the chance to move on. A relationship with Cain is the least thing that Celia expected, but may be exactly what she needs. The connection between Cain and Celia is powerful. Cain gives something to Celia that she thought she had lost forever. He reminds her what it’s like to live and be loved again….

I have to say, I am just in love with this book. It gave me so, so many feels. I knew this was going to be an intense read, but I wasn’t prepared for just how much this book was going to tug on my heart. This isn’t just a book about a second chance at love. This is a book about forgiveness, letting go of guilt and allowing yourself to move on. One of the moments that really grabbed me, and I know I won’t be able to forget, is Chapter 21. Have tissues on hand for Chapter 21. This chapter is told from Lucas’ point of view and wow, does it really put things into perspective. It really shined a light into the suffering that he was dealing with and how he really desperately needed help. JA DeRouen did such an amazing job with Lucas. She took a chance and embraced writing a character that was real and suffered from extreme mental illness. She made me feel as though I was experiencing first hand everything that was happening to him and gave me hope for a better tomorrow.

Another thing that I really loved was just how this story was written. Storms Over Secrets runs parallel to the first two books in this series. I felt like I understood everyone so much better, the connection was stronger. It was like I was seeing them in a new light for the first time.

This is one of my favorite quotes and I think it really sums up my feelings for this story: “Love isn’t about the perfect start or a flawless journey. The stains are the good part–they make everything you’re fighting for real and unique. The key to finding love and keeping it is embracing the stains…the scars…the fuck ups……Go make stains, Celia. Spray indelible ink all over the place. Make a messy life, and love every minute of it.” Not only is this quote just everything, but I think that it really hits home to the message of this book. It shows you that love isn’t perfect and sometimes the road to HEA can be very trying. But, just because you’re flawed or broken, that doesn’t mean that you don’t deserve to be happy. Storms Over Secrets is an absolutely stunning read and a fantastic addition to this series!

This book was recommended to me by another author, and so I snatched it up right away. The only thing wrong is that I'm kicking myself for not discovering J.A. DeRouen earlier!

I LOVED this book! It made me laugh, made me cry, totally gutted me, and then gently reassembled me. I couldn't have loved Cain more, his family was the kind I wish I had, and he was all kinds of amazing. Tink was so frightened, so wounded, and she covered it all up with decisions she made as a young woman who'd suffered more than she should have. Her kind of loyalty is legendary, and she makes me want to be a better person.

This book was well-written, and it screamed of people in real-life situations trying their best to do the right thing. It wasn't easy--it was damn hard--and it broke them as much as it broke me, the reader. But in the hands of a master like J.A. DeRouen, it was handled to perfection. I cannot WAIT to start on her other books. I have found my new favorite!

4.5 stars. Can't believe I waited so long to dive into this one. With each story in the series it just got better and better and this one did not disappoint. Cain is beyond wonderful and would love more of him and Celia.

I have fallen in love with J.a. DeRouen's writing. She spins a seemingly "easy" story of a slow burn, and adds layers upon layers underneath. The story she tells is full of guilt, courage and coming to terms with a past that continues to haunt you. It's about love, how it impacts your decisions, how they impact your love.. and the strength it takes to find and make yourself available to new love.

Cain is the ultimate Southern gentleman, who has his eyes set on Celia. Celia.. has a past. A past that still influences her life today. Knowing these two characters from the two previous books in the series, I was already half in love with them. But this book elevated their story so much higher.

This story was beyond anything I could have hoped for. Their connection is unique, their love transcends, no matter how much it's fought. The emotions described and transmitted through this book are real, torturous, and so worth all the pain on the way.
This is a book that I would recommend to everyone, and I will be rereading (and listening, Teddy Hamilton is the PERFECT Cain narrator) this over and over again.

Review by Natasha Gentile

This book, oh this book. I have been waiting for this since we first met Cain in Hope over Fear. I fell in love with him in Wings Over Poppies. I wanted his story; I wanted Celia story, but most of all I wanted their story. This is my journey into the storm.

Promises are lies dressed up for the party.
Secrets poison the fairest of fairy tales.
Lies stain the purest of loves.

When the blurb starts like that you know that the storm is going to be rough. We’ve caught pieces of these two for two books. What we’ve learnt was that Celia is a troubled soul. A soul that is half broken. A soul that hides the truth. A soul that is looking to be whole again.

I wanted to know what happened to make her like that, to put her in this place. I wanted to know everything, and I wasn’t the only one. It took one look from Cain for him to be trapped under her spell.

I tilt my head down to meet her eyes and get the first look at my new tenant. She’s barely five feet tall, fun-sized compared to my six-foot-four-inch frame. I reach out and grab the daisy she has perched behind her ear and try to decipher why the sound of her singsong voice goes straight to my dick.
“Where’s your wand?” I ask.
She give me a confused look, cocks her head to the side, and squints her eyes.
“You’re two-foot-nothing tall, and you’ve got flowers in your hair and around your neck,” I explain, pointing to the string of clover flowers she’s tied together as a necklace. I guess she kept busy while waiting for me to show up. ”You’ve got to be f*cking fairy, pixie, sprite, or something. So where’s the wand?”
She keeps right on staring, so I take my time studying every part of her.

And just like that he’s taken under her spell. He doesn’t know what it is but she’s got him. Just one problem. She’s taken. Her heart belongs to someone else. Her mind will never let her forget that person.

Celia has been in love with Lucas since before she can remember. Her next-door neighbor. Her best friend’s brother. It was written in the stars. It was suppose to be till one day it wasn’t. The day the stars didn’t align. The day she couldn’t save him. She promised to never let him go; she made promises a girl makes with her whole heart. Promises that the woman is finding hard to keep. She wasn’t ready for the storm that is Cain.

He is like a hurricane that comes through your life. He isn’t looking for love. He is just trying to be her friend. He’s the funny friend. He’s the one you call to change a tire or hit a golf ball. But one things leads to another. One moment leads to another and then you are sucked into the world that is Cain.

I hear her faint giggle as I walk through the front door, and it travels through my ears, down into my gut, right before it takes up permanent residence in my heart. I close my eyes and savor the sound, knowing I’ve never heard anything more beautiful in my life.

Celia is trying to look the other way. He makes her believe in second chances, but does she deserve it? Not only does he accept her whole heartedly, his family takes her in, loves her with no questions asked. For someone that has no family to turn to, it was like giving her the whole world on a silver platter.

With one push, one look, one touch changes everything you wonder who will be standing at the end of the storm.

“This was a mistake. I’ve made a mistake.”
And there it is.
“You’re wrong,” I say forcefully. She shakes her head and pushes my chest, but I won’t relent. “Nothing about you and me is a mistake, and you know it. You have my heart, Celia, and I know I have yours.”
“I haven’t had ownership of my heart in many years. It’s not mine to give,” she says robotically.

Gutted, hollow and back to square one, she survived once. The only thing is she knows she can’t survive this one. She knows this is different. This is leaving her broken. It’s leaving her gasping, gasping for her next breath. The breath that is Cain. He’s there. He is right there waiting for her to see, that he is the other half to the soul she thought she lost.

“I know he was the love of your life. I get it, I really do. But what if I told you that you were mine? I have enough love for the both us. I know I do.” I close my eyes and wish it all away-whatever it is that is tearing her apart piece by piece. “Tink, what if there was only you and me? No past, no ties, just a blank slate…”

She can’t do it. She can’t break the promise that she made many moons ago. But what happens when you are pushed too far? You are pushed to the limit. You are pushed all the way to the edge and the only one that can save you is the one that you let go. The one that can put you back together again. What happens when that storm passes you by and the only two left standing are you and him?

I look straight into his eyes and lick my trembling lips.
“I’d spend the rest of my life loving you,” I whisper.

This story tore me apart. A story of forgiveness, friendship, acceptance, loss, family and love; it gave me everything.

It shifted my heart, it made me look into the eye of the storm hoping that I’d still be standing at the end of it. I loved every single word that was written in this book. I cherished it and begged for more. I will read anything that J A Derouen writes, because I know that at the end of the day she will fill me until my cup runneth over with love.

Thank you for that!

Better and better!

This series has continued to blow me away. Cain and Celia's book is full of sadness and heartbreak, but to see them overcome their obstacles was amazing! Their love didn't come easy, but once it did, it was so beautiful. My heart broke for her and what she endured with Lucas. So, to see her get her happy ending with Cain just made me smile. They make each other so happy and I loved seeing the characters from the other books as well.

There was always a spark between Celia and Cain, but in this installment of The Over Series, we finally get to see their story play out.

Grief and guilt are two emotions that Celia knows too well. Burdened with the promises and decisions that she made when she was only a teenager, Celia lives with the guilt and repercussions of her past actions. She lives a lonely life. She has no living family members left, and only a few close friends. Celia keeps herself closed off, not sharing the parts of her past that she wishes she could have handled differently.

Cain is a great character. He’s a manly man, a no-nonsense, tell it like it is kind of guy. He hasn’t been romantically involved with someone for a few years, he chooses to keep his relationships free and easy. He doesn’t make promises or commitments that he isn’t prepared to keep. When Cain is called to help a new tenant who is locked out of her house, he is more than a little captivated by the beautiful, feisty young woman.

Celia and Cain have a good rapport. He loves to make her smile, and she can’t help but smile when he’s around. He makes her feel alive – a feeling she hasn’t enjoyed in quite a few years. Their friendship and attraction evolves into desire and deeper feelings, but Celia can’t allow herself to be free from the past.

I was invested in the characters and their story right from the first page. J.A. DeRouen has done an incredible job of creating characters that you care about, want to see succeed and find their slice of happiness. From the main characters to the supporting characters, as a reader, I felt connected to them, as if they could be members of my own family, or my own group of friends.

The book alternates between the past and the present and is told from both Cain and Celia’s perspectives. The story flows effortlessly and allows the reader to witness the events that shaped the character’s lives. I think that this was the perfect way of handling Celia’s story. It allows you to see what she endured and gives you a better understanding of her feelings. As likable as she was, there were times when I could’ve given her a big hug, or tried to shake some sense into her. Just when I thought that I had her story all figured out, that I knew what she was dealing with, the author surprised me.

Storms Over Secrets is a well-rounded story. It is an emotional story that will not only touch your heart but also fill you with hope. It could bring a smile to my face one minute, a tear to my eye in the next, and then have me laughing out loud. I would highly recommend this book (and series) to any fan of contemporary romance. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Marlo!

I’ve had book friends that have always raved about J.A. DeRouren books so when I saw that Storms Over Secrets was being released I knew it was one I needed to watch out for and read once released. I am so glad that I did!! Her writing is superb and I just loved her writing style! Storms Over Secrets is sexy, witty, funny, and I devoured it! She sucked me into her world and I never wanted to leave. This is one to definitely read and I would highly recommend it! The book is told in dual points of view and goes back and forth between past and present.

We start in the present, Celia has just moved in to a new house and starting a new life after college. She quickly befriends her neighbor, Adam, who just so happens to be best friends with her landlord Cain. The trio becomes close quickly but there is something more between Celia and Cain. Right when Celia starts to open her heart to Cain, she closes it. At times I was so frustrated with Celia!! I loved Cain, gah. He is THE perfect book boyfriend! Southern, charming, and always a gentleman. I wanted to scream at my kindle, what is wrong you with you Celia! But then we go back to the past…

Celia has always loved Lucas for as long as she could remember. She was best friend with his sister and their family was an extension of her own small family as it was just her and her grandmother. But as the years went by and Lucas started college, Celia started noticing small changes about his behavior. When confronted, Lucas begs her to keep his secret. Celia knows she shouldn’t but being 17 and in love, it will make you do things even when you know better.

When the story starts to unfold my heart broke for Celia! When the pieces of the puzzle from the past start to form you have a understood why Celia was frustrating at times. She feels like she is doing the right thing, even if it’s the hardest thing you ever have to do. I read this as a standalone but I plan on going back and reading the other books from the series. I just fell in love with the author’s writing style and I’m excited to discover what else she has in store for us! I leave you with a quote that I thought was perfect! 4 stars for Storms Over Secrets

“I’ve accustomed to living my life looking backwards. Memories are what fuel me because my currently life threatens to pull me under every day.”

4-4.5 stars. This is my favorite book in the series so far because of the Southern cowboy Cain. His voice is perfectly captured in his distinct thoughts and sayings, which is unlike any of the other characters so far. Cain has a big heart that is just waiting to love someone and he knew he was a goner from the first time he set eyes on Celia. From the previous books, it's obvious that Celia has walls up around her when it comes to anything romantic, but the reason why is unknown. The prologue pulls the reader in and sets the stage for discovering Celia's history.

Celia is amazing at her job, she really cares about her patients and has infinite patience herself. She's very giving, compassionate and understanding. While she and Cain develop a friendship, Cain wants to push her for more because he can't deny his feelings but Celia keeps holding back with hesitation, explaining how unavailable she is. I thought Celia was emotionally unavailable, but it just so happens that there's so much more behind that statement. Celia was in love once many years ago and that love, while not the same anymore, is what she clings to and can't let go of.

I admired Cain's tenacity in pushing through Celia's barriers but Celia is equally stubborn and won't relent, especially when she sees how much it hurts other people around her. I was actually really annoyed that her best friend Audrey was so unsupportive even though I knew why. Storms Over Secrets is angsty and charged with a vibe of longing and regret. I really empathized with Celia because she was stuck between a rock and a hard place and until she could find a way out, she couldn't be with Cain and he did what he needed to do in order to move on. There's a great message in this story about people who cannot be helped if they don't want to be helped to begin with. Seeking help is nerve wracking, letting other people in is scary, and baring one's vulnerabilities is frightening. Yet living on the side of the fear really isn't living at all and once that meaning is understood, a whole series of events begins to take place that sets things in motion in the right direction. I didn't expect Cain to be my favorite character so far but he is, especially with the way he is so devoted in his heart and how he will go to any length to help out the people he cares for the most. Great story.

Get ur tissue box ready when u read Cain n Celia story. This is the most heart broken one. Celia only 17 when she needs to face the harsh life. Her beloved grandma left her alone with serious stroke, she seen her down with blood, believe me, it is hard n hurt when u see ur love like this. I seen it before n I never forget it.

When Celia needs to face her boyfriend un stable mind, what she can do? Talked to his mom but never believe her, talked to his father but got the kick out, Lucas asked her to keep the promise, yeah, promise to Celia is the prison, it killed her from inside. six years, she carried the guilty, the secrets in her shoulder, how comes she became a councillor, maybe she is not, she already broken.

My tears can't stop when I read, u should carry your box, u will in love with the ladies group, Caroline, Alex, Sasa n Marlo, those women walked through their own cell, some maybe made by their own but some were not, they r all amazing n luckily they finally accept they deserve to have their soulmate, partner, hope Caroline will has her second chance in the later books.

Audrey may not fits the descriptions of those female character but u know, some one should be played the bad guy. Mom n Mo, Rose, even Violet n Abbie.

Sarge is another character I m in love, esp how he gets Rose as her wife n the stubborn he is, Sorry he getting his memory lost, this is something heartbroken, seeing your family in good health but lost the memory. Lucas may not the one u seen in so much but he is significant role, hope he got his pages in the later either, sometime, positive story on mental disorder will erase some discrimination.

I hope I didn't say too much about the story lines, it's definitely your own journey, I believe this is not the best of DeRouen, the best is next, the story of Marlo but I will rate this as the best of September. Thank q DeRouen, thx for letting us have amazing journey via your words.

That right there was one heck of a book. I think this is my favorite of the whole series. Each book can be read as a Standalone, but I recommend reading each and everyone of them, because they do intertwine.

Wings Over Poppies (The Over Series Book 2)

This book takes you down a darker road. The subject is raw, real and affects many of us. I absolutely loved how JA DeRouen toke a heart wrenching issue and filed it with humor, love and family.

Let's first start with the star of this book CAIN.. This big country boy is to die for. I don't know how you will not fall head over heals for this guy. He has got to be the funniest male lead I have read in a long time. I laughed so Loud multiple times during this book and that is why this book was so GREAT!

Now let's move on to Celia...I love that she was written as this tiny petite women...Omg...Tink and Fairy...The names Cain has for her adds to Cain's charm. Frankly her story was probably the most heartbreaking..I can not imagine what she was going through...When you read this book her journey will rip your heart out.... but hang on because it will end so good.

I can't get enough of the greatness of this book. It hit every emotion perfectly. Love all her characters. Love this series of books. Can it please not end..

PS. If you are not falling over laughing at the Gumbo Pot or Spoon part...Let me know. #MustRead #TopFav

Storms Over Secrets is a beautifully written tale about letting go of the guilt and having the courage to love again.

I've been a fan of this series from the beginning, so I already knew Celia and Cain. Cain has always been a huge scene stealer, but really getting to know him he is truly the whole package. Sexy and funny as hell with a huge heart that he gives without hesitation to one girl.

Unfortunately, this girl doesn't think she has a heart to give back. It's gut-wrenching to go back into Celia's past and find out why she's so broken in the present. But you connect with her in such a profound way that when she sabotages her happiness over and over again, instead of hate her, you understand her, and suffer right along with her.

I know he was the love of your life. I get it, I really do. But what if I told you you were mine?

It was impossible not to fall in love with Cain. Through his POV, you feel his heartbreak and the yearning for the fairy that was just out of his reach.

I love how their story spans the time of the first two books, and I loved getting to know Hope Over Fear's Adam pre-Sara.

J.A. DeRouen is a ridiculously talented writer that gets better with every word she puts on a page. This is my favorite book of the series and one of my favorites of the year. I can't wait for Marlo's story!

THIS BOOK!!! <3 <3

I can't even describe what this book did to me. It was beautiful. It was heartbreaking. It was so full of emotion that I felt it in places of my heart that I swore were kind of dead. The author blew me away with this novel!

I read the first two books in this series and I'll be honest, they didn't really do it for me but Storms Over Secrets did. Celia's love for Lucas, the promise that started her down the wrong path, and the painful years she had to live broke me. I felt her pain and struggle. I wanted to reach into my kindle and pull her into a hug, and help her deal with everything. But Cain did that for me. Cain was perfect. He saw something in his little fairy and wanted her to live again. Their friendship was everything and more. There were ups and downs but the outcome will leave you clothing your heart and smiling. Every single character in this book worked. Some are questionable and leave you wanting to throw them to the wolves for being so selfish and hurting someone they love.

I wish I had a paperback copy in my hands right now to squeeze to death. SoS is definitely a new favorite of mine. I can't wait for Marlo's story next.

Ms. DeRouen, THANK YOU for writing this story! It has its own special place in my heart. <3

***MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS***

I'm going to start out by saying I LOVE The Over Series by J.A. DeRouen and have found that with each new book I love it even more. One of my favorite things about these books is that they are stand alones and can be read independently, but by reading them in order you get an additional look at all the characters and their stories continue on in the background.

Storms Over Secrets blew me away, the story, the writing...this book truly has ALL the feels! If you're looking for characters that are relatable, lovable and come to life, this is the book for you! I felt like Cain and Celia could be friends of mine, they just seem so real and down to earth. You can't help but hurt for Cain and Celia as well for that matter. It's obvious from the beginning that Cain and Celia love each other but there is something that hold Celia back. If you want to know what it is, you'll have to read the book. I found myself hating Audrey for awhile and my heart just broke for Lucas.

You'll also get an update on Sara and Adam from Hope Over Fear and Alex and West from Wings Over Poppies. Storms Over Secrets is an incredible roller coaster ride of emotions and I promise after ripping your heart to pieces, as always, J.A. puts it back together again.

I love watching authors grow. Each book in this series gets better than the last.

I have loved Celia and Cain separately since I saw them in the first book. Together, they are perfect... once the author allowed them to get together. As per the usual in these books, something or someone stands in the way of the happiness. In this case, it's Celia's past.

And speaking of Celia's past, I only have one complaint. Once she finished her degree in psychology, it should have allowed her to approach her past more rationally. I know her emotions were involved, and emotions can override all rationale, but she had a bit of distance from Lucas at school. She should have realized a lot sooner that her mistakes and promises were not the right way to go. Don't get me wrong; it was nice, although a bit too perfectly convenient, the way it played out.

I do love how the author wrote realistic portrayal of severe paranoid schizophrenia, complete with family denial and a patient's refusal of treatment. What was also sweet was the reason why Lucas finally relented to getting help. Even if it was a tad too easy knowing his past, it was sweet all the same.

I can't wait to read the next in the series to see the author's continued growth.

Stunning Read!! J.a Derouen blows me away with her writing. She has a way of making you feel like you know her characters personally.

Celia is just existing, not facing her past, not moving forward, just existing. When she meets Cain that all changes. He actually makes her feel. But can she face her past so she can have a future??

This is a beautiful story and it takes you on an amazing journey. It has all the feels that you want in a great read. Heartache, love, lust, angst, humor, and redemption all rolled up in one. I also love how in every Over Series book you learn about different life lessons and how to live and love through them.

J.a Derouen has quickly became a go to author for me. She writes stories about life situations that we can all relate to and she does so beautifully.
Definitely a must read!!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I've been looking forward to Celia and Cain's story since I finished Hope Over Fear. I needed to know Celia's story. So much of Celia's past was left untold in the previous books, but we get to see it all in Storms Over Secrets. It's written perfectly. I couldn't put it down.

JA Derouen writes a story that grips your heart and pulls you in. Reading Storms Over Secrets was an amazing experience. I felt Celia's pain. Cain's frustration pours off the page. Their heat?!? Hot!

As I've come to love from JA, the secondary characters add even more depth to the story. Updates and insights into their lives are woven into the pages.

Definitely one of my top 5 reads this year! All the feels. Laughter, tears..everything I love in a five-star read.

Seriously these books just keep getting better and better!!!! 5+ fan freaking tastic stars!!!

Storms Over Secrets is the 3rd book in the Over Series. This is Celia and Cain's story. And what a story it is. We meet Celia and Cain in the first book, Hope Over Fear. Just reading that book, you could tell that there was a story brewing for them. This story is filled with love, lust, heartbreak, and breathtaking moments. I found myself having to stop and take a minute after reading certain parts of this book. J.A. just has a way with words that just leaves you with 'feels'. And the fact that she shines light onto real world issues that everyday people suffer through is just remarkable. I will forever cherish these books and this author!!
