No Justice for the Damned

No rest for the wicked.

No justice for the damned.

New Mason City is home to the damned, the depraved, the most wicked of all sinners. Killian is no different. Assassin, prostitute, brother and son; he’s proven himself to be obedient and deadly when it comes to carrying out the orders of the man who raised the priest called Father.

Killian’s life is simple. Reliable. It consists of serving Father without fail, ensuring the compliance of the players in Father’s drug trafficking ring, and doing everything in his power to preserve his straining relationship with his adopted brother, Abraham.

But a perhaps less than chance encounter with a mysterious man called Hollow, calls into question everything Killian has ever believed. New memories of a childhood he can barely recall come to the surface, forcing him to question what’s true and what’s been planted in his mind by something stranger than fiction…magic.

Now, thrust into a frightening new reality, Killian must determine who to the man who raised him, protected him, cared for him. Or the man who’s begun to haunt his dreams and fill his mind with visions of a past that terrifies him. Who claims to know the depths of his very soul.

When all parties are damned, can there truly be any justice?

Reader please note the trigger warnings listed in the “Look Inside” feature. This book is a dark, slow-burn romance with all the angst, twists and turns.

No Justice for the Damned is a standalone MM romance novel as part of the multi-author collaboration Tales from the Tarot. This book is based on the major arcana card Justice.

👏The world created for this story is so well-built, and so are the characters involved.
Throughout the story, we feel the suffering of the victims and despise Father and all those who collaborate with his macabre and malevolent mind

🤩🪄 I loved the unexpected twist in the story (I did not see it coming).
The author’s decision to make the enigmatic The Owner (O) one of the main side characters was amazing.
The concept of everything surrounding the Magic Shop and the Owner was so well integrated, crucial to the story, and thoroughly explored 😍.

❤️‍🔥 As for the MCs.... I loved Hollow's bold and sassy side 😏, and Kill's snarky 🤨, quiet persona!
The dynamic between the MCs, their chemistry, and the connection they shared was so pure that it brought light to this dark story.
It was so moving to see Hollow in intimate scenes, paying attention and caring for Kill, always making sure that every passionate moment was consensual. The tenderness Hollow showed and how he cared for Kill after lovemaking, and seeing Kill reveal his fragile side, cherishing every perfect moment with Hollow because he had never experienced or felt anything like this before in his life, was truly touching🥲

▪︎FAV QUOTES▪︎
■Kill: "As a child, when running errands for Father, I used to imagine I was Batman making my way through Gotham City. And all these people were at my disposal, at my mercy. Now, at twenty-five, I know I’m no Batman. I’m not the hero. But I am a dark knight. Father’s dark avenger."

■Kill: "...eyes glittering like gold in the moonlight."

■Kill: "He grips my chin, controlling the kiss, splaying his fingers over my jaw and neck in a possessive, gluttonous way. He tastes so good, like sunshine and lemon juice, tart and bright and full of life, like a whirlwind of color blossoming in my mouth. I want more."

■Hollow: "....my sweet Kill still sleeps. He’s entangled in the sheets, dark hair splayed out over the pillow like a cloak of black silk. He’s so beautiful, so innocent in his slumber, nothing more than a slumbering kitten. I sit on the bed next to him and his eyelids flutter open, those big dark eyes..."

I received this book as a gift from the author and am voluntarily leaving this review.

I’m sorry? What did I just read???
I wasn’t ready for this! THE FEELINGS! Somebody help me cause if I didn’t know any better I would think I was a jigsaw puzzle right now…
Killian, wow. Just… wow. 🤯 this boy is so strong.
And Hollow… first of all, how can you be this sexy while fighting against a demon/demonic priest that deals in ch**d traf**cking and dr*gs and all that?

Also yes please and thank you. The darker the story, the happier I am. So yes, five stars because I couldn’t put six.

"I likely should feel wary at being led along into the darkness and seclusion, out of the way of any passing eyes. Any other man would cause me no alarm, but Hollow is a different breed. He sets something inside of me squirming and burning at the same time. I don’t like it. But I really, really, really do."

No Justice for the Damned by the fabulous Hellie Heat is a standalone MM romance, as part of the multi-author collaboration Tales from the Tarot. This book is based on the major arcana card Justice and it is Killian and Hollow's story.

Be aware that No Justice for the Damned does contain some very dark themes including child trafficking amongst more, so before you dive in you do need to check the author's warnings.

I absolutely adored Killian and Hollow, and their evolving relationship in the midst of so much evil and horror was just gorgeously written. The paranormal/magic element was beautifully woven into the story and there were some genuinely shocking moments. I loved it!

What To Expect:

❥MM romance
❥Dark themes
❥Dark fantasy/PNR
❥Enemies To Lovers
❥Slow-burn
❥All the spice
❥First times
❥HEA

No need to read any of the other books in the series first, or in any particular order, or at all, but definitely dive into No Justice for the Damned immediately!

All the stars!

DNF@ 22%. I can’t with this one. I know they’re brain washed but the way he just handed his brother over to their abuser. So much cringe. I’m curious about Hollow but not right now. Probably the darkest themed in the whole series. Not for me.

⚖️"𝑁𝑜 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑊𝑖𝑐𝑘𝑒𝑑"⚖️

Ending September on a high note and heading into October with this magical read was completely meant to be. This is my first time reading this author. My first book in the Tales from the Tarot series, and I am so happy it was!

As a reader, im trying to broaden my horizons. Im not usually into heavy fantasy, but tarot, divination, etc. is my jam. I didn't know what to expect in starting this book, but I'm so glad that I gave it a chance. Right away, I was intrigued and instantly enthralled in this story. It's marketed as a slow burn, but honestly, I didn't even notice. This story has all the twists and turns keeping you hooked and wanting to read page after page to see what will happen next.

An evil priest, an enforcer, a mysterious character named Hollow, and a magic shop, leads you down a twisted road to find justice. Balancing the scales. In the midst of the dark world, two mcs are coming together to potentially find love, safety, and trust. Who's telling the truth, though? We're left with questions of what's really going on behind the scenes. Who really is "Father?" And when we are enlightened with the answers, a dark, disturbing truth is what we find.

It was no accident that Killian and Hollow met. No coincidence at all. Killian feels this unexplainable, undeniable pull like magic towards this ethereal man named Hollow. Always smirking, always teasing, he grates on Killian’s nerves. If this Hollow is here to hurt Father, or his beloved brother Abe, Kill will do anything to protect them and their way of life. But things aren't always what they seem. Something more sinister is at work here, and memories are starting to surface that has Killian questioning everything.

Despite those questions, he's enchanted by Hollow. The fire that burns between these two mc's, phew! 🥵 After this dance between Killian and Hollow, when they finally come together? Fireworks. Magic. Some of the hottest scenes I've read in a while. Hellie did not disappoint with steam, attraction, and chemistry between them. I couldn't get enough and didn't want this story to end.

No Justice for the Damned pulled me out of a huge book slump, and I'm so grateful for that! Thank you, Hellie Heat, for writing such a great story!

Un grand merci à l’auteure pour cet ARC et sa confiance.

No rest for the wicked.
No justice for the damned.

Wow…..No Justice for the Damned by Hellie Heat was so beyond what I was expecting. I love how the Magic Shop and the Owner played more of a role in this story. This one was definitely dark. More so than any of the other stories. However, it was a really good story. Hollow and Killian were so good together and I loved how they had to lean on each other to defeat Father and save the children and Abe. The redemption of both of them was great as well. Both Hollow and Killian had done things that they were not proud of, but the ending was filled with such hope. I have not read Hellie Heat before, but I will definitely read them again!

I received an ARC from the author for my honest review

I am so grateful to have been given an arc by Hellie. As always, this is a masterpiece.

I love Hollow and how original his character is. Not only that, but I blindly fell into the story. It was not at all what I expected to read. It is taboo, and the depth of the story brings out a lot of emotions. The depth of the characters is amazing as she always brings all her characters to life.

If you are looking to read a book on Halloween that deals with taboo subjects but also has dark magic and demons in it, this is it!

“You’re trying to save my soul, kill?” “Is there a soul to save?” “If there is it’s yours.”

This story is a lot darker than the other tales of the tarot books I’ve read so far, please read the trigger warnings, as there are quite a few.

Thank you so much to Hellie Heat for sending me the arc of this!

Although this one was darker, it was a really interesting story a plot I hadn’t ever really see before. It was unique and had me hooked even through all the horrors that happen.

This is a slow burn, with a little more focus on the story than the smut, but when the smut does kick off, blimey it’s good!

Killian is so desperate for love he’ll do anything for Father, no matter how degrading or devastating. It’s heartbreaking watching his journey as well as heartwarming when he comes full circle and takes what he wants and wins.

Hollow is still left as a bit of a mystery, you find out his backstory and how he connects to Killian, but I still found that he had an of mystery around him and I actually really liked that.

I really like the role the owner played in this one too, it’s the most I’ve seen of him so far, and the fact he was ridiculously helpful was nice.

🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

This book starts off with a lot of mystery that I couldn’t wait to figure out. I was not prepared for the heartbreak that came along with this story. I enjoy this book and its characters. This book definitely has triggers so make sure to read trigger warnings before diving in. By the end of this book I absolutely loved Hollow. There was so much emotion and depth to this book that really made it a good story.

A really intriguing concept from the start but doesn't really escalate for me. The book felt very steady in its pace. It's a good take on the Justice arcana with the main character Killian embodying the reverse at first, before becoming the upright by the end.

So keep in the mind the trigger warnings of this book. With every book that deals with these heavy topics such as SA and child abuse, I have my gripes. I don't think these topics should be avoided of course. My general rule of thumb is that the perpetrator must have a clear black or grey moral compass. I think that it succeeds in that portion.
The other all important rule for me is that it cannot be too generous in the descriptions. There is horror in the unknown and being too gratuitous makes it exploitative and fetishizing. I think this book is right there on the cusp of it, like standing right on that line. Half a foot across and half a foot behind.

So with that out of the way, the book itself.

It doesn't really pull its punches. From the get go there is a steady sense of unease with Killian and his interactions. It doesn't let up for the whole book even after the big reveal. It continues through out the rest of the book until the epilogue because I really wasn't sure how it was gonna end.
I did enjoy it but it was a bit odd for me that the stakes never really rose for me.

I think it could be the nature of Kill and Hollow's relationship. It didn't really feel like they were in love but they were starting to care for each other. Plus the two of them being so ready and willing to use each other, at least at first, made the stakes lower for me.
There was more emotion between Kill and Abe but they weren't the main focus of the story so there was a lot less development ofc.

The writing was nice. It was very easy to read and just descriptive enough. There wasn't too much fluff in the writing itself. Story wise there is a bit in the beginning where Killian is going to the church, then to the club, then back to the church, then back to club, then back to the church...you get it.
Still due to me enjoying the writing style, it was easy enough to push through.

I kind of wish the ending was a bit different but I understand that this is With how Hollow and Killian acted during the final fight, it would've been poetic but I'm okay with

Definitely think its worth a read but I don't see myself revisiting this.

No Justice For The Damned is the 12th book in the 22 book multi-author series Tales From The Tarot and serves to represent the Justice Card from the Tarots Major Arcana. The Justice card is the symbol of truth, fairness, and law. The upright positions reminds you that there is a time to be judged, and the judgment will be fair and accordingly to your actions. This would bring relief to anyone who has been wronged. However, the reverse indicates that there has been dishonesty and corruption and when the Justice card is presented in the reverse it serves as a warning to those whose actions have caused pain to others.

Justice of the Damned is sad all around, it will have your heart breaking for the characters and hoping for their well deserved HEA. Main characters Killian and Hollow, as well as side character Abe have experienced enough trauma to last several life times. After Killian learns the truth o this past and faces the betrayal of the person the held in such high regards, he teams up with Hollow to seek revenge and bring justice to those who have gone through the same horrors they have.

As soon as I started the book I immediately got the ick from the man that Killian refers to as Father, you can tell right away that there is something not right with him. The main characters are bonded by trauma and the relationship they form transcends Hollows need for revenge, I love how these two are together and and glad that they are able to help each other heal. Hellie Heat does a wonderful job depicting the evil that can be hidden under a wholesome disguise, and she does a wonderful job in creating a story that represents the Major Arcana’s Justice Card.

I 100% would recommend this book to anyone who is a reader of dark romance. However, the content is not light hearted and there is a lot of triggering content with in this book. Before reading please look at the content warnings.

This was my first book by Helle Heat and I am very pleased to have found them as an author!
The Tales of the Tarot series has introduced me to a lot of authors I hadn't known about and it's such a great series. This book is no exception, but it is the heaviest installment of the series so far. This is a dark romance with a lot of intense themes, so read and heed those TWs.

I found the premise of the book very interesting as it centered around Killian, a brainwashed victim of a man he calls Father. Killian is both victim and killer. He follows Father without question until he meets Hollow, first in a dream then in person. Hollow is an escaped victim out for revenge. The entire story centers around the criminal organization hiding within a church. It really reminded me about how the structure of the Church can mimic the mob. Yikes!

While there isn't gratuitous violence and gore (there is definitely violence and between the MCs), it wasn't over the top. This story doesn't really have "good" and "bad" guys. There are the morally gray and the absolute garbage, so it lacks some of the moral redemption/ warm fuzzies that I've seen in many other dark romances. This is a true DARK romance with suspense and twists that will keep you engaged throughout.

The writing was top tier and beautifully done. The author is very talented. The only thing that didn't hit right for me was a lack of deep abiding love and devotion between the MCs. We get it in some lines here and there, but I felt like I kept waiting for more. This felt a bit more like two men incapable of love because of everything they'd been through trauma bonding and deciding to be together. I didn't feel the depth of the emotion between them. Otherwise, the ending was satisfying and the book was enjoyable overall.

I received an ARC of this book to review as part of the Tales from the Tarot series and this is my unbiased review.

What would you do if you found out your whole life was a lie? That the person you loved most was a monster? Killian is about to find out in this dark fantasy/romance. Killian is led to believe that the men he's killing are bad men and some are. They are men who have assisted Father in abducting, abusing and selling kids. Some have branched out and want to be free of Father's hold. Some have gotten in the way of Father's enterprise. So when Hollow opens Killian's eyes to the truth he's determined to make amends. Hollow and Killian have so much in common. They form a bond to stop Father from hurting anyone else. Killian is also worried about his brother Abe because Father is determined to have Abe at all costs. With help from the Owner of the Magic Shop they just might be able to stop Father.

This is a very dark fantasy/romance. It deals with some very heavy themes. It was hard to read parts but I think it was all needed fully flesh out the story. The main story line of child trafficking is something that happens every day and it showed some of the harsh realities that the children go through and struggle with into adulthood (that is if they make it to adulthood). The story was well written. The world and character building was really good. The chemistry between Killian and Hollow felt real and honest; as well as being hot at times. I would've liked a little better closure on Killian and Abe's relationship though. The epilogue would've been good if the gratuitous sex scene was removed. It wasn't needed and detracted from the purpose of the epilogue. Definitely recommend this book to those that can handle dark, heavy content.

Killian is a chameleon, a deadly assassin and a feminine ho, a leather-wearing Harley Davidson driver, and a dedicated son following all Father’s orders.

When Hollow, a charismatic mysterious leader, takes over part of Father’s business, Killian has to eliminate him.
Only this infuriating man isn’t what Killian thought he was. Killian’s memory has gaps he wasn’t even aware of. Hollow shows him what he’s missing.
The question is who’s to trust Father or Hollow?

At first sight, you’ll think the story is about a wicked Priest who uses his sons to run his awful dirty business! And that would already be awesome. But… no! It goes way deeper and way darker.

My heart hurt for all the ones who were used and hurt, especially Killian and his brother.
The author created an extraordinary story, full of darkness, abuse, revenge, and even a touch of magic, and not the fairy dust one, noooo not even.
Thank goodness besides all the darkness and hurt, there’s also light and freedom.
Overall an amazingly written piece of work!!
A recommendation for the readers who can stomach dark stories with trigger warnings!

I'm.. unsure about how I feel about this book... It's not a bad story, the writing was exceptional. I could see where the author was going, and I think the premise was quite good. I just think this was a personal preference issue. I enjoy dark romances but this was a bit too dark for me.

What I mean by that is there wasn't any of the 'lovey scenes' that occur in romance books, there wasn't really any getting to know you scenes or relationship development. Hollow and Killian met in their dreams, and once they met in person violence ensued, and continued to happen multiple times. I do understand that enemies to lovers is a trope, but I feel as though this wasn't that. They felt like enemies that... Bonded over trauma and decided to be together. I didn't feel any real romance between the two.

I thought that the premise itself was written well and was quite intriguing. I felt so bad for Abe, Hollow, and Killian for what they went through at the hands of 'Father'. He's a despicable man and I'm glad that Killian and Hollow was able to get revenge/Vengeance for everyone.

Overall not a bad story, just not my cuppa tea.

Killian and Hollow story was a dark twisted one, with numerous challenges, depravity, deception, betrayal, secrets, magic, suffering and above all a race against the click to accomplish a hard mission that leads to a hard earned happiness.
Hidden purposes, manipulation, power hunger, innocent suffering are a couple of their trials, along side with a way to hide the truth, to make them blind to the end game and the reality.
The moment of truth is hard to swallow, but with help, determination and true love the path to their salvation and happiness is made known.
It was a constant rollercoaster especially when all the blinds come off, the significance and impact of all that is involved takes roots and a choice is made known.
The story is mainly from Killian perspective, all his struggles, feelings, and fights with himself, as well as his conscience when all is made known and he has to decide the path he'll follow.
I enjoyed the moments between them, how they connect and how they fallen in love with each other.
I truly enjoyed the read and wish to see more of the characters.

“No Justice for the Damned” what a ride! This book grabbed me from the first page and never let go. The dark, gritty world of New Mason City is the perfect backdrop for a story that's equal parts thriller and romance. Killian is such a complex character—an assassin and a brother torn between loyalty and the haunting truths that begin to surface. The slow-burn romance with Hollow is intense, filled with angst and mystery, keeping me locked in as their stories unfold.

The writing is powerful, together with dark themes and emotions with a plot full of twists. It’s not just a story of survival, but of questioning everything you’ve ever known. If you enjoy stories that challenge the idea of justice in a world full of morally gray characters, this book is for you. It’s a dark romance, so be prepared for the heavy themes, but it’s absolutely worth it for the journey. “No Justice for the Damned” is a haunting, beautifully written tale that left me thinking long after I was done.
Definitely check trigger warnings!

I've read several of the books from Tales from the Tarot multi-author series, and this one is the darkest so far. Beware of triggers.
Killian cares about only two people, and he doesn't shy away from orders to maim or murder. He's dark and cold, but we see that he has strong feelings he keeps ruthlessly buried. When he meets Hollow, Klilian's life as he knows it is ripped apart.
This story is often violent and devastating, and it's impossible to look away. Kill and Hollow are antiheroes for the most part, but they are heroic when it counts. Their harsh tendencies extend to their bedroom activities, but that at least is consensual, unlike a lot of what they've both been through. Their histories hurt my heart, and I feel like they deserve justice - or vengeance.
I am completely satisfied with this story's resolution for the couple and for Kill's adopted brother Abe, and I have to say that I really like the men Killian and Hollow become. This is a really good, sometimes very difficult read, and it is a great addition to this series.

This was.. dark. It comes with a number of content warnings and I advise any reader to have a look before purchasing this book as there were many times where I was uncomfortable and close to putting the book away. I’m glad I didn’t because I really did enjoy it.

It’s a short book, and I feel like it suffers because of that. The plot at times feels rushed. I got a bit… I wondered how this was going to wrap up nicely in time. There were also a number of dilemmas rather than one big problem.. just seemed to be problem after problem for poor Killian. It’s like the plot didn’t know where it was going at times?

But the characters were excellent. Killian at the helm was delectable and Hollow and Abe were fantastically written. Father was just as terrifying as he was supposed to be. Yes. Characters done very nicely, I have no complaints about them. The descriptions really painted a clear picture in my mind and I found it easy to sink into the world and care about these three men in the way I was supposed to.

Great addition to the series!

I liked No Justice for the Damned by Hellie Heat. It's part of the multi-author series, Tales From the Tarot. I enjoyed Killian and Hollow’s story. I liked how the story was centered around a church, but the church is run like a mafia, who deals in drugs and child trafficking, and to make it different from every other story about a corrupt church group this one has a paranormal twist to it. The author definitely kept me guessing, and I'm so glad everything worked out in the end and the bad guys got what was coming to them. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I read this story using the Kindle unlimited app.

This is an interesting read. There are some dark elements to this story that made it an engaging read for me. I ama fan of dark stories and enjoy seeing the characters find themselves and survive everything. When Killian meets Hollow his world is forever changed. Killian must look at what his world is and what the truth is.
I enjoyed seeing these characters find their way. Killian and Hollow go through a lot and it was nice to see the way they develop into the men that they do. The plotline is full of emotions and twists that keep you engaged. I like the way Killian and Hollow interact, the two are good together. Their story is dark and will pull at your heart.

This was quite a dark lecture, both MCs have a very troubled past at the moment they meet and none of them sees a happy ending in their future.
Killian and Hollow fight really hard against all odds to have what the most wish. At first it`s not each other but bit by bit their priorities change and evolve.
I hated with all my heart their foe, it`s one of the most evil and depraved I met in a story in quite some time, watching how this couple win against him was thrilling.
Please take care of yourself and heed the TW.
I liked the book, can`t say I enjoyed it because it made me fairly mad, and at the end I cheered for Killian and Hollow as if they were real.

This book is so, so, so good! It has a lot of dark elements, so read the CW if you have triggers. The romance between Killian and Hollow was perfectly paced, and overall everything in the story was well-balanced. Suspense was maintained throughout, making it a real page-turner. In fact, the only reason I didn't read it all in one day was because I had to take breaks here and there from the dark themes. The author was new to me, and I loved this book so much I added her other titles to my TBR. Honestly, I can't recommend this book enough!

OMG this was so good. Hellie Heat really knows how to write that hurt/comfort trope, wow, stab me in the heart, why don't you ahhhh!

The dark sides of humanity and religion, the betrayal when Killian found out and when his memories started coming back, the GUILT towards Abe after finally realizing what Killian did as a child, the slight fantasy/paranormal aspect that gets added (surprise!), and omg so much more.

So many twists! I actually forgot about the blurb and was shipping Killian and Abe initially until Hollow became more of a character on-page. Then we learned some truths, and also find out more about Abe, and omg that hit me in the feels. Poor Killian, but also poor Abe, and all the victims.

Such an amazing read. This played like such a vivid movie in my head, I was so immersed in the world, I couldn't put the book down and finished in one night. 10/10 and 5 stars!
