The Forager's Bible: 7 in 1 by Linden Vale
This book is incredibly helpful, especially for someone like me who loves foraging for wild edibles but is still a novice. I usually only forage in my own backyard for dandelions, nettle, plantain, and chickweed. Right from the start, this book provides a wonderful description of responsible foraging and sustainability, emphasizing that while you can take from nature, you shouldn't take it all. It also reminds you to comply with any laws or policies if you happen to forage outside your own backyard.
The book is filled with a plethora of color photos, showing what not to pick and eat. I can vouch that I will never pick a mushroom in the wild and nibble on it, I'm just not that comfortable with my skills in identifying mushrooms. However, this book does have wonderful photos of each mushroom.
I enjoyed the edible plants chapter the most. It offers very good descriptions of the plants as well as full-color photos for easy identification. As a newbie who only thought about foraging in the spring and summer, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that you can actually forage for fall and winter edibles as well. This book covers everything from edible plants to medicinal plants, and if you happen to want to make a business of foraging, it helps with that too.
If you've ever looked at a dandelion and saw it as more than a weed and wondered about the benefits of having a yard full of them, read this book. You'll definitely see your yard in a new light, instead of weeds, you'll see your next meal.

I was given this book to review by Boundless Books Review, the opinions are mine.

Disclaimer: I live in the suburbs, don't forage & I have veggie, flower, & Herb gardens.

Pros: Lots of info was given without having 1,000 pages. The format was written condensed and easy to understand. The introduction to foraging provided enough info to get started and what is needed to prepare. I like that the guide addresses respect for the environment. Mushroom & Plant identification, uses, and seasons were useful information. I like the recipe section, even if I most likely wouldn't make the recipes.

Cons: I would have loved more pictures, herbal information, & maybe antidotes if one accidentally eats a toxic plant.

I recommend reading this book if You are into self-reliance, environmentalism, hiking & camping.

Live off the land

This book helps you learn the skills necessary to live off the land. The book is full of great information on what the herb, plant, etc. is used for, where to find it, precautions, and tips or tricks. Most of them even have a full color photo so you can be sure you are finding the right item. The end of the book is about ethics, resources, etc. I appreciated the section on getting your kids involved. Overall, this book has a ton of info and is a well written guide to exploring and finding sustenance in nature.

explore Mother Nature’s food store

Foraging is finding wild plants that are edible. To do this safely, you must be able to identify what’s edible and what’s toxic. The author has precise descriptives along with clear color photographs of plants. There is also a section on creating your own tinctures.
