The Duggans of Montana #1

Harlot at the Homestead

Rate this book
Sometimes retribution finds its own way but sometimes it needs a helping hand.

When Catherine Montgomery shows up at Kenan Duggan’s homestead, she expects him to be surprised. She’s been gone two years and she’s devastated to hear that her former fiancé was forced to give her up for dead.

Catherine never stopped thinking about Kenan and hoped that they’d be reunited one day. She has suffered at the hands of another but nothing tortured her as much as being apart from the man she loves. She doubts, however, that Kenan will be able to forgive her when she reveals her secrets.

As Kenan battles his desire for revenge, their mutual desire reawakens like a creek bed in the rain, and soon they are swept up in rediscovering their all-consuming passion.

Retribution often finds its own way in the Wild West and the men to blame for Catherine’s disappearance may well find themselves paying for their crimes in unexpected ways.

That’s if Kenan doesn’t get to them first!

Kenan Duggan thinks he is looking at a ghost when Catherine Montgomery appears at his door. Believed to be dead by Natives, Kenan hasn’t seen his fiance in two years!

Reunited with the woman he loves, he fears this joy he feels will disintegrate when he finds out what really happened…. Where has his fiance been this entire time? And why did she allow him to think that she was dead?

Kenan and Catherine have an explosively passionate reunion, and despite her reservations, she confesses to Kenan what has kept her from him. Family secrets and lies surface, exposing a seedy world that some might believe couldn’t happen to them… But it does, and Kenan is out to settle the score.

Harlot at the Homestead is full of sizzling sex, drama, and passion. This novel contains strong themes, but still remains to be a light read with a happily ever after. I enjoyed this story very much because it was refreshing to read a romance that deviated from the “normal” format. Harlot at the Homestead is completely unique and original, and I’d recommend it to anyone who was looking to read a sizzling erotic romance, with a healthy dose of drama & retribution!

Kenan Duggan was thee perfect hero, so if you love sexy heroes, you MUST read this book!

Catherine Montgomery played the role of the tortured heroine who needed to be saved. With her dark past, she was hard to love. Kenan was able to see past it, making him even more lovable. (Are you getting the impression that Kenan Duggan is my book boyfriend, or what?) :)

My favorite line in the book was when Kenan believes a terrifying and grisly spirit was sent to haunt him. It turns out this “wild spectre” was really Catherine’s elderly Aunt running towards him… I’m still laughing!

And those sex scenes! *Fans self* HOT!

“You ready to ride a cowboy? he asked. He slid a finger inside her, causing her to tremble with an aftershock of her climax, then he added another, stretching her slightly, and then she opened her legs to encourage him.”

I don’t know about you, but I kinda blacked out at “You ready to ride a cowboy?” ;)

All in all, this is a novel that you NEED to have on your bedside table, or on your E-reader. Molly Ann Wishlade doesn’t disappoint! 5 Stars!

This book was sad, romantic, and hopeful at the same time. Kenan has spent the last two years grieving the loss of his fiancée. He was told that she was taken by Indians. Then one night he and his siblings hear something outside and Kenan goes to see what it is and finds Catherine passed out on their doorstep. Kenan wonders if he is just imagining her being there of if she is really there. Rosie, Kenan’s twin sister helps Catherine warm up and get some fresh clothing on. Kenan needs answers, as happy as he is that she is back and not dead he needs to know what really happens. Catherine worries how she will be able to face Kenan and tell him the truth about where is has been as well as what she has been doing. Catherine has never stopped thinking about Kenan or how it would feel to be back with him where she feels she belongs. How will Kenan react to Catherine’s answers to his questions? Will he be able to put aside his need for revenge and just be happy that she is back with him where he wants her? Will they be able to have a second chance? This story has a very sad part to it. Catherine was forced to make a choice that wasn’t even really a choice to begin with and with that choice came losing Kenan. Kenan was told that he had lost his love before he even really had her. Even when they are reunited there is a lot tough things to get through. Catherine must work through what happened to her and Kenan must fight his need for revenge. Despite the two years they spent apart they are still very much in love and attracted to each other. There is a flame there that will never go away. This book was a great read and the characters are wonderful. I am excited to read the next book in the series. Hopefully the next will have a little more about what happens next for Kenan and Catherine. Molly is a great writer. She weaves a wonderful tale with great characters that have depth. They make you wish you were in the book.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.

This story was a little different than what I normally read however I did enjoy the way the author used the story line to give us the story of Catherine and Kenan. She shows that sometimes true love can overcome anything in life and between these two characters after a tragic time they find themselves again. Only problem is will Kenan forgive and love Catherine as much as he did when she first left and he thought her dead? While the author did a great job with the story, there where a few words in the storyline that didn’t match up with what would have been said during this timeframe. The characters had plenty of description as did the book so your able to know what is going on including the surrounding area. I do have to say the author does know how to write some hot scenes, which is a plus in my books. Towards the end we kind of get a peak of another sibling possibly receiving the next novel in the series, but it does drop off at the end, so I am not sure if she will be the next one in line or not. However, with there being more siblings she has left it open to other novels to be written and I hope to be able to read those when they come out.

This is a fabulous story about loss and betrayal, about pain and wanting vengeance. What would you do if the woman you loved and was planning to marry in a few days vanished and you assumed she was dead, then she turns up two years later with a harrowing story of betrayal? Plot your revenge of course.

I loved this story because the love between Catherine and Kenan was so obvious right from the first chapter when she walks back into his life. I could feel his pain and grief, his panic that he may be losing his mind initially. Catherine is a very strong woman. After living through the trauma she went through, she still was willing to protect the people she cared about.

The chemistry between Kenan and Catherine is as swift and hot as a steam train. They couldn't keep their hands off each other and yet their emotional conflict and the tension was just so spot on.

The author's writing style was vivid and descriptive and I was transported back to old Virginia. I enjoyed this story and if you enjoy steamy romance in a historical setting then, you will enjoy this one.

Kenan Duggan has long thought his fiancée was dead, beaten, abused, and killed by Natives, as was the story he was told. So, when Catherine shows up at his homestead one night, he isn't quite sure what to think. But, he knows what he wants--her.

Ms Molly Wishlade has written an engaging tale with the first in her Duggans' series. Both Kenan and Catherine have amazing chemistry. It practically comes up off the pages for the reader to see and feel. And despite the secrets and issues the couple faces in this short tale, you find yourself rooting for them to get through it no matter what.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tale. The romantic scenes were swoony and the sex was hot. She stayed true to the time and characters, I thought. There were a few formatting issues that had me confused. Changes in POV's or scenes that weren't properly marked and confused me for a moment as I tried to figure out what happened, but it wasn't often enough to really irk me.

All in all, a great read!

Westerns aren't my usual genre, but this one was very enjoyable, despite being much racier than books I normally read! I couldn't wait to finish it, to find out whether heroine Catherine would overcome her traumatic past to once again be reunited with her true love. It is a story of hot passion, forgiveness and the desire for revenge. Catherine is an appealing main character - strong and determined, despite her ordeal. And Kenan is the kind of man any woman would be proud to court. Wishlade excels at creating a strong setting, with descriptive writing that is nevertheless easy to read. Plus she writes sex with skill. You won't be able to put this book down!
