John Tibbets #2

Running Homeless

Rate this book
John Tibbets, the homeless antihero from Walking Homeless, returns with a vengeance. Still plagued with amnesia, Tibbets awakens in the desert canyons of New Mexico after killing a half dozen drug lords and several FBI agents for reasons he can’t remember. Without memory to guide him, his instincts and training kick in and he goes into hiding, once again faced with the dilemma of uncovering his identity.

Meanwhile, the violence in New Mexico draws FBI Special Agent Richard Cone and Ben Freeman, Tibbets’ former partner and member of a government black-ops agency that officially doesn’t exist. Freeman knows that even without his memory, Tibbets is a dangerous and cunning adversary. For the sake of national security, he must be found and neutralized.

As Tibbets heads into Texas, snippets of his memory return. With money he took from the drug lords, he finds shelter in a lonely motel. That night, vivid dreams take him back to New York City, where he became a hero for saving a police officer’s life. In the morning, Tibbets finds a library and researches the stories written about him in New York. He reads about Captain Howard Taft, an investigating officer and uncle to the man Tibbets saved, and a possible link to Tibbets’ identity.

Tibbets sets out to find Taft, now retired, hoping the former captain can shed some light on his dire situation. With time growing short, he reaches Taft only to discover Freeman and Cone waiting for him. Forced to run, Tibbets and Taft know their only chance is to uncover the secrets locked away inside Tibbets’ mind.

Fans of Walking Homeless and mysteries in general will enjoy this gritty, fast-paced thriller as it races to its shocking conclusion.
