Bound By Darkness is without a doubt the best book, in my opinion, that K.L. Steele has written.
The story is so raw and gritty. I could literally feel all the emotions these characters were going through. And that prologue!! What a way to start a book. For me, if the prologue/first chapter doesn't pull me in first go then 99% of the time, I won't finish it. But in this case, this was probably one of the best prologues I have ever read.
The story follows our FMC, Lyra, and our MMC, Ryker. Lyra and Ryker are step-siblings who are forced to live in a house of horrors controlled by their partners. One night, Ryker is able to save Lyra but not himself. 8 years later, Lyra has been alone and obsessed in trying to find her stepbrother, but no luck. Until one night, a massive Wolf appears and saves Lyra's life. For years, Ryker has stayed in the shadows watching Lyra. Will she be able to accept him for who he is now? I guess you'll have to read it and find out 😉
This story is great for all my dark romance peeps who love Paranormal Romances with knotting, fated mates, marking, and their MMCs possessive and unhinged.

I knew going in that my favourite queen of step sibling romance was going to knock this out of the park, and let me tell you, she delivered on every front. To give you a little sprinkle of what you can expect:

- Touch her and you die
- Possessive MMC
- KNOTTING
- Slight stalking
- And the SPICE 🥵
Don’t forget to read your trigger warnings as the trauma hits hard at the beginning of the book, but my gosh, is the pain worth it.

The feels this book made me feel… goodness. I laughed & sobbed. Some very raw moments in this story, dialogue and inner thoughts that make you go “well shoot”. I love unexpected passages from books that put into words what I’ve felt before, and this has that. Absolutely loved the stepbrother PNR aspect of it too. Lyra & Ryker definitely don’t have it easy, but it’s oh so worth it. Thoroughly enjoyed their journey to their HEA. Stereo’s writing is amazing as always, capturing your attention and making you not want to put the book down! I procrastinated reading the last few chapters because I didn’t want it to end, even with how much I wanted to see them finally get together.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC and I ate this book up so fast! My first thought after finishing was, 'I need more!' More K.L. Steele books—doesn't matter how long I have to wait, I just love her books; they're so addictive! Lyra and Ryker's story was heartbreaking, and I'm so glad they found each other again!

K.L is one of my absolute favourite Australian dark paranormal romance authors and being in her street team is just so incredibly fun! I am beyond excited every time she drops a teaser or something new!!
When I got introduced to Locked and Chained earlier this year I absolutely demolished them. So when I heard this exceptional talent was writing some more dark paranormal romance I just knew I had to dive right in!
This new story is something different. It is dark and our MC's stepbrother and step sister really go through some exceptionally traumatic experiences in their journey. This book is dark and doesn't shy away from really discussing traumatic assault. It is a paranormal romance, step brother and sister dynamic, hellhounds, knotting and a whole lot of sacrifice for the one you love.
There are a lot of elements to this story and I don't want to give anything away as there are some truly awing twists. Lyra escapes the clutches of her abusive, twisted step father. She gets away thanks to her Step Brother Ryker making the ultimate sacrifice. Flash forward years later Lyra still thinks of Ryker everyday, wondering about what happened to him and if he still cares. Little does she know he's been watching and taking care of her this entire time.
Watching the chaos unfold once Lyra discovers his secret is exceptional. The forced proximity, the longing between lost loves, the demons of hell, the hellhounds, the primal attraction and fear. All of it ups the anti and creates a high stakes romance that has you holding your breath for this next touch, breath and interaction. Ryker is broody, lethal and possessive. Lyra is warm, precious and loving, but don't be mistaken she isn't fragile.
Knotting isn't usually my thing but the way it's been written in this book makes me not hate it 😂 I highly recommend this book if you love anything paranormal. Demons, Hellhounds, Vampires and hot romances 😉

Steele will always fucking deliver, there's something about her writing that draws you in, and once the book is over, it leaves you wanting more, this book was no fucking exception, it was absolutely incredible, from beginning to end I was hooked and will forever recommend this book. Okay, now, onto my review of the book. I've read both of her other books, and they were both incredible, but this one? It was truly something else entirely, It's easily one of my favourite reads from this year. I loved Ryker & Lyra so much, they were the absolute cutest. Ohhh, Ryker and Void were absolutely ICONIC istg. "oversized pocket puppy" Is one of my favourite lines I've read this year, I can't even. I do not know how to talk about this book without spoiling it, but seriously, you HAVE to check this book out, you will not regret it at ALL, not one tiny bit. Not to mention, the spice was SPICING, it was next fucking level. This book had me blushing, and it had me CRYING too, I went into this KNOWING I would cry, I just wasn't expecting to cry as much as I did. Omg!!!! Lyra and Ryker’s story was absolutely amazing!! It brought out so much emotion at each turn. How this story started out was heartbreaking, seeing Lyra forced into to saving herself by the one she loved most and continuing to force herself through life without her missing piece made me sad to read.
The turmoil both of these characters had to go through after finding each other just for Ryker to have to break everything apart for her safety. Essentially breaking Lyra all over again, it felt like the hits just kept coming and that neither of their happiness was in the cards. But when they finally get back together the spice and sexual tension between the two was hot. It’s was well worth it all seeing them come together and finally get their happy ending together!!!
Loved reading this and all the twist and turns this story took for them to get where they could be together!!! Absolutely perfect story!!!

Ok first - I didn’t even realise it was set in the same world as Locked and Chained which I loved! The story kicks right off, there is no edging in - K.L. Steele dumps you right in and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I really enjoyed getting Lyra and Ryker’s story and I really hope we will see them again sometime. Their story was traumatic and beautiful all wrapped in some spicy spice - the character development and how they confront their trauma was a big highlight in this book.

This paranormal spicy novella is more of a 3.5 ⭐️ , to be fair.
Ryker and Lyra became step siblings in their late adolescence. They endured abuse and trauma at the hands of their parents, until one day, when Ryker made the ultimate sacrifice and helped her escape.
8 years later and Lyra cannot stop thinking about, or looking for, Ryker. She has lived a lonely life, barely hanging on, and many times wishing death would find her.

I went into the story based off of one quote I saw on TT - so basically, I went in blind 🤣 but it did not disappoint. Paranormal is not a genre I typical go for, as I struggle, at times, to connect with characters but Lyra pulls at your heart just enough to make me like her and want her to finally have love, peace and understand that she is good enough!

I’ll admit it - I got completely suckered in by the STUNNING special edition hardcover at RARE Melbourne and just had to grab this book. Little did I know what a wild, emotional rollercoaster I was signing up for.
Bound by Darkness is ANGSTY in all caps and wastes no time throwing you straight into the middle of the FMC’s trauma from page one. Our heroine, Lyra, has been searching for her stepbrother, Ryker, ever since escaping her abusive stepfather years ago. What she doesn’t know is that Ryker has always been watching over her, and he’s now returned as a Hellhound. Cue the pain, the tension, and the heartbreak.
Ryker’s inner conflict absolutely gutted me. His constant push and pull, torn between the grim conditions placed on him by the Reaper and his desperate need to protect Lyra, makes for the kind of emotional torture I live for in dark fantasy romance. The devotion, the longing, and the quiet moments between them hit so hard.

I couldn't put this down
I loved this book, and simply could not put it down.
I was absolutely gutted at the first half. The pain, anguish, the utter devastation of her emotionally leaves you feeling drained. Lyra was left to her own devices at her most vulnerable.
Ryker. Ryker did all he could to protect her, before and after she left. He ended up being one hell of a shadow daddy, and she was none the wiser.
This story had surprises hidden behind many twists and turns and was honestly one of the best reads of the year for me.
The story is gripping, emotional, toiling really. Well written as it grabbed you by the collar and dragged you in involuntarily. You could feel everything and damn if you couldn't smell the lingering scent of smoke.
Highly recommend if you're in the mood for some angst. 😏

OMG this is such a great book, i was addicted from the beginning, Lyra and Rykers story is one full of heartbreak and pain. These two are fated to be together, Life just takes awhile and lots of trauma until they finally get to be together. Ryker will do anything for Lyra including keeping himself hidden from her until the time is right, being a hellhound has its benefits though. Lyra goes through so much and you really connect with her throughout the book as it goes into detail about her feelings and fears. I love Void , she is so feisty and funny. The spice was chef's kiss, very detailed and hot. I also love how this book mentions characters from the blackstone gates world. The author has smashed it again with this book as with her other i would highly recommend.

This is a journey that has you gasping from beginning to end. K.L. Steele is a master story teller that knows how to pack a punch with how she delivers her words and sets the scenes so you feel and experience everything alongside the characters. My heart hurt for Lyra but I rooted for Ryker from the start. I was not able to put this one down and will happily go back and relive it all over again.
There was perfectly timed comedic relief with Void who has become one of my all time favorite side characters. I find it very important in a highly intense emotionally packed book that there is well timed comedic relief to allow the read a moment to rest. K.L Steele executed this flawlessly and I found myself really enjoying the banter between Void and Ryker.

Emotions were running high from the first page, I was sobbing with tears - this book held me hostage and I struggled to put it down to do other things.
Reading Lyra’s emotions while she had to leave Ryker was bad enough but to know she was looking for him tore me up with her not being able to find him.
Finding out what happened to Ryker and why he couldn’t just go to Lyra had me sobbing all over again, knowing he wanted to be with her as much as she wanted him, so he did what any sane person would and stalked her and made she she was protected at all time.
The story between Lyra and Ryker was taboo as they were step siblings, but the love they shared was otherworldly and definitely worth the read.

Ryker went to great lenghts to make sure if he can't be with her, he'll make sure she'll be safe. If he can't stay with her, he will find a way to make sure she is cared for. That was so sexy. He never cared for any other woman. Never, not a single thought, all he ever wanted was for Lyra to be his, to be safe and to be loved. That's the kind of possessive i like, i like my men obsessed like this.
My heart broke for Lyra and Ryker when i first got to know them, life was against them it seemed. But their bond was to strong for them to be apart. Even if it took a while to figure it all out. I loved this story, the little twist at the end, was epic! Another love story for the books!

this was my third book to read by K. L. Steele and she did not disappoint! This was a step sibling trope and I loved every minute of it! This is set in the same world as Her Locked and Chained series! I love the gothic fantasy, demon/hell world and K. L. Steele knows how to bring it! My heart broke for Lyra after all she had been through! She deserves all the happiness! I am obsessed with Ryker! He’s a hell hound, who is also possessive, obsessive, literally touch her and die, mine MMC and I absolutely fell head over heels for him! This was such a good read! There’s teases of Spice through out the book, but once you get toward the end, it really heats up! I 10/10 recommend
