He has walked this earth for ten thousand years, feared and respected by warriors of heaven and hell. One fateful night turns his world upside down. Cursed by the last Guardian he killed, he’s marked to become the Champion of the next Guardian yet to be born. Now an outcast of both realms, can he find a place where he belongs? Will he be able to obey his Guardian, let alone grow to have feelings for him?

Being linked to a demon as his Champion hasn’t been easy for Rai to accept, especially since other Guardians were bonded to Archangels. Shunned by members of the Guild growing up, he doesn’t have many people he can believe in save his best friend and mentor. Will Rai be able to overcome his disdain for Azazel? Can he ever learn to put his faith in a demon? And what about all those feelings he can't control when he thinks about him?

About The Maniac Who Wrote These Books

I'm the author of deliciously dark, sexy, and thrilling MM fiction in various genres. I corrupt readers with salacious tales of possessive men staking their claims on the men who make their blood rise in certain places. I know... I should be ashamed, but I'm shameless. I'm a public menace that can't be stopped, and my characters are rude, sassy, charming, arrogant, and hotter than sinners in hell. They tell me what they want and I follow orders. When I'm not hunched over my keyboard typing away, I love to watch movies and TV shows (You should check out my reviews.)

I received an ARC copy of this book. While I would have loved to rate it 5 stars, it needs a good once or twice over by a sharp eyed editor. The story was great, the characters were awesome, but there were a few errors that were glaringly obvious. Hopefully they’ll be fixed by the time it goes live and it’ll be a 5 star read!

👉 Azazel:The immortal Demon of War, is over ten thousand yo (having stopped aging at 24). Once a powerful and ruthless member of the Twelve Knights of the Hades Empire, he now lives as an outcast, cursed by the last Guardian he killed. Marked to serve the next Guardian.💪Azazel possesses immense combat skills and supernatural power. 😍 Love The Ending
😍 HEA

Cover: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars

👉 The story's theme is well-developed, and the writing is solid. The world-building is well done, clearly conveying the dualities of good and evil, while challenging the prejudice that demons are inherently evil and humans are not.
By the end, it's clear that many humans are the ones who allow themselves to be corrupted.
The story is set from before the beginning of humanity up to the year 2036/37.

👉 As for the MCs right from the beginning, I felt compassion for the two of them because they are both outcasts. Azazel, expelled from the Hades Empire, is forced to live on Earth, where he is despised and hated. Rai, on the other hand, is separated from the one he loves and forced to prepare for a future he never dreamed of. He has to live among people who look down on him, believing him unworthy of becoming a Guardian.
🤩🪄 However, my favorite side characters were Marcel, Monique and "The Owner."
Marcel's friendship and loyalty were beautifully portrayed, and Monique was an unexpected twist in the story, which I loved.
The magic shop (everywhere and nowhere) was perfect in this book.

👉 Rai's resistance to his attraction to Azazel , combined with Azazel's audacity, resilience, and undeniable desire for Rai, makes the best combo.
🌶🌶 However, as a slow-burn romance, it felt lacking. With Azazel being so mischievous and constantly driven by lust, and Rai secretly feeling the same way despite hiding it, their moments together seemed too brief. The tension between them could have been explored more deeply, allowing for more buildup and emotional intensity, but instead, it left me wanting more from their interactions.

❤️‍🔥 Rai's character embodies the reversed Hanged Man from the Major Arcana for much of the story, representing his ego and stubborn resistance to forming a bond.
He refuses to trust Azazel or acknowledge his feelings, leaving him stuck, unable to adapt to the unforeseen challenges that hinder his growth.
💥However, when Rai begins to feel the deep connection and devotion Azazel has for him, recognizing that Azazel is willing to give his life for him, he shifts to the upright Hanged Man.
🤲 In this moment, Rai abandons his stubbornness and the ghosts of his past, realizing he doesn't have to prove he can do everything alone.
👆Azazel, in turn, also mirrors the upright Hanged Man. He embraces his fate, no longer viewing what happened to him as a curse but as a new life and purpose. He gains new perspectives, committing himself to protect Rai at all costs, fully accepting his role in this bond.

▪︎FAV QUOTES▪︎
■Azazel: "...feelings that held me captive.
I’d been abandoned by my own kind, made an outcast. I was still a demon, but not completely. I no longer had a home. No longer had a place where I belonged. I wasn’t human, wasn’t a demon, wasn’t an angel."

■Rai: "Oh. My. God... he was GORGEOUS! My mouth dropped open, all words escaped me. I had wanted to tell him off or something, but I couldn’t say anything. He had the prettiest eyes I’d ever seen... were they indigo? How unique. His black hair was cut short in the back and sides, but his bangs were longer. His face was sculpted by angels, had to be. It was too perfect and his mouth... so sensual. Who... no... what was he? He looked so familiar."

■Rai: '“Fuck,” I hissed.
“Do other members of the Celestial Guild curse as much as you do?”
I tossed him a look. “Please don’t tell me you’re sensitive?”
He shook his head. “On the contrary, I find it very sexy. A breath of fresh air, if you will.”"

👉 I would rate this book 4 stars but the pacing felt slow, especially after a strong start.
Around 55% of the way through, the action seemed to decrease, and I missed seeing more interaction between Azazel and Rai, even if only in dreams, not just nightmares.
Their dynamic felt underexplored in the second half, which impacted the overall engagement with the story.

🤔 I thought the first kiss between Azazel and Rai could have been more impactful because of their connection.
It also felt strange that Azazel, a ten-thousand-year-old demon with so much life experience, would steal a kiss (or a peck on the lips) from 16 yo Rai.
If there was going to be a kiss with Rai at that age, it should have been initiated by him not Azazel, and Azazel should have stopped it immediately.
Besides, they hadn’t even introduced themselves or shared anything beyond an inexplicable connection.
This took away from the purity and magic of such a profound and unique moment for Rai, and made me question Azazel's morals.
Rai, a virgin experiencing his first attraction, love, and kiss, deserved more in that moment, and not at that age or in that way.

👉 And his first encounter with Azazel... it felt too brief.
🤏 I would have liked to see more of Rai's adventure with Marcel

Thanks for reading hope this helps you out!

As always, Nicholas Bella presents an original and different take on the traditional religious themes and demonology and creates a magnificent, all-encompassing world-building, filled with demons, angels, and humans. The only thing keeping the precarious balance between Sin and Temptation, Evil and Good, are the Guardians and their champions, fighting to keep it in check. But nothing is always what it seems - corruption, greed, ambition, narrow-mindedness - are never ending Plague and the so called Guild of Guardians isn't immune to their corrosion.
So when Azazel - the powerful demon of War is affected by the Angel's kiss, exiled from Hell and suddenly has to reconsider his whole life in the light of all the changes and join forces with the Heaven side, it rocks the very foundation his life was based on.
This is a beautifully written, heart-touching story about redemption, loyalty and the unexpected Challenges Life throws at you, that you have to raise and find the strength to accept them. After years of loyal service to the Queens of Hell and his fellow brethren,Azazel finds out that nothing he took for granted has to be actually taken at face value. And the hit of abandonment and betrayal opens a cavernous wound in him. But are the Angels and the other side any better - he will find out too. The story was absolutely enchanting, full of twists, tension, snark, dark humor and hilarious A-ha moments that really threw me off sometimes. Being paired with the last and the youngest of the Guardians, was yet another challenge. After years of destruction, death and wars, Azazel finds himself in some sort of kindergarten, full of beings with immature thinking, awfully inexperienced, but full of bravado, foolish stubbornness and lack of real knowledge about Hell and its inhabitants. Talk about bitter landing. Like Fate was mocking him, daring him to adapt and find new purpose in life and even an uneasy treaty with everything he despised the most for centures. Rai - the guardian he has to be bound to, is the epitome of entitlement, hot headedness and lack of experience. They clashed from the start because Rai with his big 24y of life was just so awfully, awkwardly inadequate in his prejudices, that it was painful to watch. I enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers aspect of the story because it had all the tension and the necessary build up without being too easy and predictable.
My only complain? I needed more and I would have definitely loved to see even longer book, why not a trilogy?

Rai is excited about the comet coming. Tomorrow he'll be twelve. When he comes home from school there's a stranger there that will change his life forever. At first he's excited and really wants what the stranger is offering but when the fine print is read he wants to turn back time.

Azazel is a demon who's been around a very long time. He's famous for having the highest death count of the Guardians. Killing this last Guardian was a big mistake, one he'd like to take back. When he finds out it's a done deal, he's not happy about it but he does embrace it.

Twelve years later and Rai is a different person entirely. He hasn't had an easy life at the Guild. He's about to find out some news that his mentor Darius has been keeping from him this last twelve years. Azazel is an entirely different demon. He's starting to have feelings and care about things other than himself. He's known the secret Rai is about to find, out for the last twelve years, and he's ready for it to start.

When these two come together it's not an easy pairing. The attraction is hot and one of them is fighting it hard. They do their job well together and have each other's backs. It isn't very long before major trouble comes knocking of their door. This forces Rai and Azazel to come together to protect each other and save their friend. It doesn't stop the tension and fighting but they are really working together now. In one of their missions they come across someone who needs their help and they are ready and willing.

This was a really good and dark fantasy/romance. It kept my attention from page one, flowing easily from page to page. It tied in really well with the Tarot series. Rai and Azazel need help and the only one that they can turn to is the Owner, so off to the Magic Shop they go. The supporting characters are all well used. I really liked Darius and how he helped Rai. I even liked Michael with his stodgy attitude. It was nice to see that Rai and Azazel both had a friend that they could lean on. I liked the way the author worked in current events into the story. Azazel doesn't pull any punches when he tells Rai that humans are destroying themselves and they only have themselves to blame. Truth! I definitely recommend this book.

I really love the concept and dynamic of the book but the execution was less than stellar for me unfortunately. I do think it's a fairly decent read, it's a succinct novella, but the prose was lacking for me. There's also quite a lot of deus ex machina which I'm never a fan of.
There's a lot of the use of the word 'argh' in this book which always bothers me. I'm never a fan of onomatopoeia to be honest, I must prefer the description of a sound. That's such a nitpick though and I'm sure most people will be fine.

Eternal beings and fresh twenty year olds are always a bit weird for me. Like I can deal with it because frankly, two consenting adults, it's really whatever they wanna do. Azazel knowing of Rai since he was 12 and thinking he was beautiful was kinda...bit much for me. Especially since I knew going into this that their relationship would progress. They don't really interact until Rai is 16 for the first time in person. It gives me the heebies but nothing really happens before Rai is of a legal age so again, it's not a big deal.

With all of the tales of the tarot series, I did feel like Rai and Azazel did embody the hanged man. Literally and metaphorically.

The parts I enjoyed the most were probably the flirting closer to the like the 30 40% mark of the book. I do love the dynamic of flirty demon and their stoic partner pretending like their charms do not have an effect on them.
The found family closer to the end of the book was really enjoyable as well albeit fairly rushed.

Still, as I said before, the book is concise and there's not too much fluff which I can appreciate. It feels like maybe there's too much crammed in there but pleasant nonetheless.

4⭐️ 1🌶️
MOOD: dark-ish, adventurous, tense
TROPES: enemies to lovers, slow burn, fated mates, age gap
GENRES: contemporary, fantasy, supernatural w/ religious-themes

MAIN CHARACTERS: Rai Harrington and Azazel
TAROT CARD: The Hanged Man

THE GOOD: I enjoyed this. It was an interesting read. The world-building was good but it took a few chapters to get into this world of Guardians, Champions, Guards, and Demons. This is a slow burn so even the introduction of the Rai and Azazel takes time so you have to be in it for the long haul but it's worth it to see how the characters work together and how they, especially Rai, overcome their fears. There are times when Rai is really sanctimonious BUT Azazel calls him out on it - if he didn't that could have gotten really annoying really fast. The whole idea of the Angel's Kiss was an interesting idea that I didn't expect to get further developed so that was a nice surprise.
THE NEUTRAL: It's enemies to lovers in the broad sense - as in the forces of good vs evil since it's not really anything personal just Azazel is a demon. While reading, the timeline bothered me but after the fact, it doesn't.
THE MEH: As with any age gap that involves one character being immortal there's a time period where the other character is a child - I just could have done without Azazel calling a 12 year old Rai pretty and interacting with a 16 year Rai.

CW: violence, death, mentions of sexual assault, sexual content
DISCLAIMER: I received an advance review copy. This is my honest review.

I think it's safe to say that I enjoy this authors stories and this one is no different. It was well written with a detailed world building that easily transported you into the scenes and once in, the characters made you stay. I loved Azareal and Rai they were two opposites, one was a demon and the other a guardian to protect humankind. They should of been enemies but instead they had a slow burn romance. The story was intriguing and I loved the imagination of the plot. This book ticked all my paranormal loving heart could want, both characters had sass and it was nice how their romance played out. The secondary characters were also integral and played their part and I liked getting to know them. The hanged man was the inspiration of this book and I thought it was well represented in that their was resistance to begin with what with them being enemies but that both managed to let go of past grievances and to accept circumstances and to instead see them as new perspectives. I would re read again is the long and the short of it🤩

“He was everything I desired, bold, confident, powerful and sinfully gorgeous.”

Okay this one was wicked.

Azazel was so fun! I loved the turn of events, from being a super high up demon to a guardians champion. I loved how he accepted it and just wanted to be wanted by Rai.

Every time he called Rai ‘baby’ got me. For such a simple pet name, it had me (and Rai) salivating. Honestly the way Azazel used it with his flirting, perfection.

“My demon. My Azazel.”

Rai was badass. No other way of putting it. I loved how he wasn’t like the other guardians, he wasn’t up tight or strait laced. He was rowdy, cocky and foul mouthed. Oh and so so so possessive of his demon.

I felt for him so much, he was just a kid and everything changed and you really feel that emotion too.

They are a serious slow burn (no matter how much Azazel tries) and there’s enough sexual tension to set a house on fire.

And Monique is a little legend, I loved every second of her.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

What a good book featuring Angels, Demons, Guardians, God, Satan, and flawed humanity. Nicholas Bella has written a unique and interesting take on the celestial world. Azazel is a ruthless demon of war whose purpose is to sow chaos and violence among humans. Azazel also battles Heaven’s warriors, the Guardians. In a seeming fluke Azazel is infused with human emotions thus rendering him unable to kill the innocent, and he’s kicked out of Hell. Devastated, Azazel survives, killing fellow demons for revenge, and learns he is to be bonded to a celestial Guardian for all eternity.
Rai is a child of twelve when he is taken from his human family to be trained at the Celestial Academy. Destined to become the most powerful Guardian once he bonds with his champion, Azazel, he resists the final connection that will elevate his warrior prowess to the highest level. While telling the story of Azazel and Rai, Bella weaves lots of commentary on human behavior. Our flawed nature, prone to killing and enslaving one another for power, greed, lust, all the seven sins.

I've been following the Tales from the Tarot series and I've loved every book in the series so far, and this one is no exception. I have a new-to-me author I am excited to follow in Nicholas Bella.

To say that I enjoyed Rai and Azazel's story would be an understatement. I love a good enemies-to-lovers pairing and it doesn't get more E2L than an angel and demon. The chemistry between these two was electric. They're both grumpy and have walls miles high, but try as they might (and whoa, did they) they couldn't deny fate! Not to mention that Azazel was not going to be denied once he decided Rai was his. I love a possessive MC, and he delivered.

I loved the found family aspect of the story and the side characters were great, too. We see some familiar figures, like Michael, and I enjoyed Bella's spin on them. The ending was satisfying and plot overall was engaging. A great read all around!

This is an engaging read that does contain some strong matter. I enjoyed meeting Azazel and Rai. I loved Azazel he is a strong character that lives his life as he pleases. One night everything changes for him and he must learn to change his ways but he is still Azazel. Rai grows into a strong Guardian. He endures and survives growing up within the Guild. Of all things these two are bound together and they must find a way to understand and connect with each other. It was interesting to see Rai grow and mature he goes through a lot of pain and growing. I was pulled in to their story as it played out. It moves at a good pace and the characters were well rounded. I liked the way these two connected and found the trust in each other. Not only did the main characters shine but the supporting characters had something to say as well making this a good read all around.

A darkly delicious view of good vs. evil!

An original take on things we take for granted. This time, it's good (angels) vs. evil (demons). Azazel is one of the highest ranking demons in Hades, but one fight with an important angel changes that. He becomes a pariah, unable to return to Hades. Rai is the last of the guardians - he will bond with the last champion who happens to be, yes, Azazel. The trouble is that Rai is training to fight against demons, yet he is to be paired with one! It was one h3ll of a pairing; Rai had a mouth and temper and wasn't afraid to go up against Azazel. It took a while for Rai to simmer down and work with his destiny, but once he did, they became an efficient team.
Great side characters like Darius and Marcel, lots of action, heat, and humour. All that and more from Nicholas Bella's stories!

Angel’s Kiss

I’m not sure who is grumpier Rai or Azazel, but I do know if there’s an award for stubbornness, Rai would have zero competition. I swear he spent more time hurting himself when he and Azazel could have been becoming, well, you need to find out for yourself. It’s a good thing once Azazel has you in his sights he refuses to give up.

“I like hearing you say that you’re mine.”
Ohh, what was this here... he was becoming possessive of me... after all this time? I liked it. No, I loved it.

I loved it too! Lots of chemistry, great side characters, who I wouldn’t mind seeing more of this world, a battle for the ages, and two fated enemies, who try their hardest to deny what’s in front of them. All for our delicious reading pleasure.

A THRILLING, SEDUCTIVE, ACTION PACKED RIDE I DIDN'T WANT TO COME OFF OF. THE TENSION BETWEEN RAI AND AZAZEL FELT SO ALIVE, EVEN I FELT IT.

The only thing I can say is, wow! This was such a fantastic read with such a thrilling story. I honestly had a hard time putting it down. This story is BEYOND fascinating and so creative and unique. I loved diving into this world and learning about guardians, angels, demons, and the whole world. I absolutely adored the found family aspect in this read and love the characters so much. I couldn’t get enough of the connection between Azazel and Rai. It's just an epic read. That is definitely a reread for me. This is a spectacular addition to the multi-author series of Tales From the Tarot.

Another awesome read from this multi author series. The book starts with Azazel, demon knight, fighting a guardian. He was impressed with him but did manage to dispatch him. Before the guardian passed, he bestowed an angels kiss on him. Now no longer a full demon, he cannot enter hades or heaven. Kai, at 12 years old, was outside to watch the comet with his family. When it passed, he felt a tingle but when he asked his family, they didn’t feel it. When the family was visited by a private school and went to visit, Kai was enrolled. This is the start of the story of how Kai overcame the loss of his family to being trained as a guardian. I loved the world building, aauction, heat and chemistry between them.

Azazel and Rai story was quite interesting with intrigue, a quest against time with unexpected ramifications, help in the most unique places, and friends that go to the thick and thin.
Those two had a slow start as the both had their hang-ups and preconceptions, and had to slowly acclimate with each other and learn to trust in each other.
It had adrenaline and danger, life and death situations, plus being constantly misunderstood and mistreated for being different.
They are a unique pair that had to face adversity, they had a difficult mission that only complete trust and pure feelings could take them to the finish line.

What an amazing story! Love the pairing of "angel" and "demon" together, and boy, did these two have a hard road to travel! (Talk about your enemies to lovers!)
I loved the scene-setting, world-building, whatever you call it in this book. This author brought the scenes to life so well, I felt I experienced it right along with the characters; it definitely helped flesh out the movie playing in my mind while reading the words. Monique, Marcel, Darius, all the side-characters, really, were captivating, entertaining, and quite amusing at times. Loved the way everything played out, and the epic battles and many trips travelled to make it so. Well done!

This is a great supernatural story. I'm a sucker for the discovery of supernatural abilities and being shipped off to a secret academy. Rai doesn't take shit from anyone and I love that he has a male best friend. Usually when an MC is gay, the best friend is from the opposite sex. The only thing I struggled with is that the sexual attraction from both sides already started when Rai was 16 and Azazel 10.000 years 🫠

If you’re starting this for enemies to lovers, it's not a real enemies setting in my opinion. Azazel is very open about his attraction early on and Rai is also interested, but fights it. Our boy is just too stubborn for hos own good. The slow burn is very real though.

Tales from the Tarot is such an interesting series, and The Angel's Kiss is a great addition. Azazel and Rai are opposites in many ways, but they are equally stubborn and determined, a great match. I like their snark and the way they (eventually on Rai's part) defend each other. This story is violent and dark, but there is also a lot of humor and heart.
The Owner of the Magic Shop, the one character who is in every book, is just as mysterious and selectively helpful as always, and the magic of the angels and demons is powerful. The storyline is intriguing, and the slow road to trust and then feelings, is satisfying. I really like this paranormal action-packed romance.

Thanks for the ARC, I voluntarily give it an honest review. I really didn't know which to feel more for between these two. Neither was happy but both was stuck together an it couldn't have been a better pairing. As for some of those stuckup's how would they had like for their entire existence just be flipped!

Azazel was having the time of his demonic life that was until the eclipse allowed and Guardian had past a long his *curse*
Rai link with the divine wasnt what he was lead to be, his was stuck with a snarking demon.

The demon Azazel received "the angel's kiss", a blessing from Heaven making him a "Champion". His new duty would be to protect his"Guardian" Rai whom helps protect the world. Rai resists the bond because -face it, demon- but it was meant to be, God's plan. This was such an awesome idea and the book is fascinating, absorbing and crackling with sexual tension. It's a veritable Good Vs. Evil situation with a slow burn and lessons about humanities choices. This small book packs a punch! I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.

Great addition to the series!

I loved The Angel's Kiss by Nicholas Bella. It's part of the multi-author series, Tales From the Tarot. I loved Rai and Azazel. I loved their journey to get to where they are as Guardian and Companion. Rai was so stubborn, and I loved that Azazel always told the truth, even if Rai refused to believe it or see it from his point of view. I loved the fight scenes. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Solid read

If your fantasy Angels and Demons book buff then this is definitely an amazing read. The only reason why I gave this four stars is because I am a Nicholas Bella attic and it just did not have his typical level of spice which was what I was hoping for. Otherwise the World building character development the whole Saga is just absolutely phenomenal. A phenomenal read as Nicholas Bella is an amazing author. He flows easily and quickly and is just one of the most enjoyable writers out there.

To be honest I have no idea how to rewiev this book.
The the characters were great, as was the whole story idea, but it was also confusing at times. Also emotional/relationship aspect was a kind of weird.
I think Azazel was a little bit obsessed with Rai from the beggining, and he was not afraid to show it, so from this side it was great. But Rai went from hate to love withing one moment near the end of the book, no so there wasn't really any emotional development from his side.
But in general I like this book very much.

3.5 stars

I mostly liked this book. I was a lot more into it before Rai gave in, so to speak, and it became a romance. From what I understand, this is a complete standalone which kind of sucks because I would like to know what the deal with Terri and her archangel is, as well as Marcel and Monique finding love in the future. I don't necessarily need more books about it but bonus epilogues or a novella would be cool. Story involving the release of Lucifer was a cool idea and I really want more of that story. The action scenes were ok. I would read from the author again.

I received this ARC to review for my honest opinion. The Angel’s Kiss by Nicholas Bella was riveting. I could not put the book down. Rai and Azazel’s story had me hooked in from the first two pages. I wanted to know more and more. Rai and Azazel are perfect for each other. It shows the way they fight against the bond and then for the bond. It starts off with lots of snark and feisty quips and ends with lots of love and admiration. I would recommend reading all the way.

Just f**k already!

Nicholas never disappoints. I wasn’t sure what to expect from The Angel’s Kiss. By the second chapter I was captivated. How Nicholas writes a bout a touchy subject like religion and makes you see the Demons point of view is impressive and you can’t help but fall in love with the characters. Hope you all enjoy this story like I did. Now, let’s cross our fingers for another one!!!
