About the author

Having immersed myself in the subject of retirement for the last five years, I would venture to suggest that I’m now a seasoned expert. A bold claim because my career was rooted in the financial world. To make this claim, I have a passion for personal development that leans towards being an expert. What I can say with some degree of confidence, however, is that before retirement, I only had a narrow vision of how life would change. Or indeed, how my time would be spent.

To answer my questions about retirement, the solution was to learn. Because throughout my career, I have always been resourceful and happy to self-educate. I grabbed everything. Read countless books and articles. And observed how my working world was changing.

After retiring in December 2019, I had a head full of knowledge. Insightful knowledge that I believe, today, is ripe to help others to make the big leap into retirement. Finally free from work, I feel liberated and refreshed. I hope to inspire others with this book: A guide to successful retirement.

A helpful book, not just focusing on finance

Preparing for retirement often focuses too much on 'can I afford it' and not so much of 'how will I make it work for me?' but this book is helpful as it concentrates mostly on how to prepare for the change in status and the extra free time, learning to have a different identity than being defined by your career, planning to avoid boredom and thus depression. The book sometimes doesn't feel well written but it contains some gems of advice that I have found reassuring.
