As a fan of the Bruins for 50+ years and having a fair amount of knowledge of the history of the NHL, I was surprised that this was a story I did not know about. From that perspective the book was 5 stars.
The shortcoming is that there were way too many recollections about individual games - both NHL and Gallinger's minor league baseball career. These were interesting to a point but after awhile was of little or no interest to me.
The descriptions of the actual events leading to the suspension for gambling, the efforts to overturn the suspension and the effects on Gallinger's life was very good. This only accounted for about 100 pages and I think the book would have been an equally effective read at 200 pages, which would have included his early life.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to fans of hockey history, especially in light of the current relationship between sport and gambling.
