Scenes in the book are similar to what you would find in an R-Rated movie. Readers 18+ please.
As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.
My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.
My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with. I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.
I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters. When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!
This book focuses on charming and roguish Aiden MacFarlane who came home from the war determined to live life to the fullest – his charm and smile gives many the view that he is carefree and serious in no way – but he is a man whose smile hides a fair bit. Watching those he cares about find love and settle town has him realising that he no longer wants to play the field and party the night away.
War widower Lia Smith moved with her little girl - Emily, highly protective of the daughter she is ensuring her little girl lives a life where she is happy and feels like she belongs. As a forensic accountant she is hired to investigate who may be stealing from the town, and to say her investigation ruffles a few feathers and has some nervous would be no understatement.
When Aiden and Lia first meet, well neither are left with good impressions, both judging the other harshly, yet once they both realise their error a bond develops, at times I did feel that after her last relationship, Lia trusted Aiden a tad too fast, but I liked how the two communicated with one another.
This was an accidental re-read, but a nice one, and as I couldn’t recall much of what transpired in the story, it was almost like reading it for the first time.
Aiden MacFarlane has always been the fun one of the baytown boys. He is back in Baytown and working with his older brother in their grandfather's pub. After his stint in the military, many think he is still the super fun guy who can't be serious. That begins to change when he meets Lia Smith and her daughter Emily.
Lia Smith is a forensic accountant hired in Baytown to investigate what could be someone stealing from the town. She is making some nervous but determined to do her job. She is also trying make sure that her daughter is happy and adjusting well to town since she is partially deaf.
Lia and Aiden's first meeting gets off on a very wrong where they really judge the worst of each other without any knowledge of each other. But after they get to know each other their feelings take a new direction. Lia is a widow that also adds to her complicated feelings due to how things in her first marriage was. Many thought is was great and that he was a great guy but unfortunately they had been growing apart even before he passed.
The only problem is that Lia work is beginning to put a target on her back. Because Aiden is really becoming committed to mother and daughter he will do anything to protect them from the growing danger.
I liked this book but it wasn't a fav. I did like the characters though and the mystery is one I kinda figured was gonna be what is was and who. I think the thing I didn't like most was there was no epilogue for them and I felt no real what happened to the person behind the thief. So I felt a little cheated and so it felt incomplete in many ways. But a nice fairly low angst romance all the same.
Oh what an amazing book this was. Maryann pulled out all the stops with this heartwarming story. I have loved all 8 of the books in this series but I think this one is my favorite ;)
Amelia Smith made an impression on Aiden MacFarlane when they first met but it was not a really good one. Aiden MacFarlane made an impression on Amelia Smith when they first met but it was not a really good one. It didn't take long for both to realize they had jumped to the wrong conclusion and it couldn't be farther from the truth.
Aiden had decided he no longer wanted to be the man that played the field and had no attachments.
Amelia made taking care of her young partially deaf daughter, Emily. Never giving any thought to finding love again after her Marine husband had been KIA while serving in Afghanistan. He had left her holding her feelings of the man he really was inside. To everyone else he was a hero but to her he was a weak man unable to cope with his young daughter's hearing disability. Emily deserved to be loved, cherished and protected and Amelia would try to be all the parent that she would need.
This book also has some mystery surrounding the forensic accounting investigation she had been hired to do by the city council of Baytown. Surprising twists surround this with surprising results coming out but not before Amelia and Emily are put in danger when their home is intentionally set on fire.
This book had so many feels that I went through several tissues as Amelia and Aiden struggle through this new relationship. But the HEA was a beautiful thing to read which required it's own tissue.
I think I’ve now found a new favorite book by this author. Hear My Heart is romantic and emotional with just enough mystery and suspense woven through the story.
Since returning home from serving his military time in a war zone Aiden is trying to appreciate life and live every moment to the fullest. He is a volunteer firefighter, a coach with youth league, and thoroughly enjoying single life and all the women he meets while working at the bar he co-owns.
Single mom, Lia is an accountant investigating some discrepancies in the town finances. She is new in town and hopes to settle in and make a stable life for herself and her young daughter.
“When I was unsure that Emily was able to hear me tell her that I loved her, I would place her so that her cheek was right next to my heartbeat. I always wanted her to feel it even if she couldn’t hear it. She still does that, even now, and I always tell her she can hear my heart…it’s the sound of my love.”
I absolutely loved this addition to the Baytown stories. Aiden is an amazing hero and Lia is a strong and independent heroine. -5+ Stars!-
This is book 8 in the Baytown Boys series and can absolutely be read as a stand alone although I highly recommend the other books in the series just because they are such great stories. This one is about Aiden MacFarlane and Lia Smith. Aiden came home from being overseas determined to live life to the fullest. Whether that is hanging out with friends, spending time with his family, or just being with all the different women that pass through their little town on vacation. Lia has moved to town hoping for a new start for her and her daughter. She doesn't want nor need the drama of being involved with the town's player. Especially after the way they first met. But when there are threats made against her while she is attempting to do her job, Aiden will become her unlikely protector. And when they are forced to spend time together, will they both find out that there is more to each other than what they thought? Or how much someone can come to mean to the other?
I absolutely loved this one!! Aiden has always come off as this happy go lucky man who only cares about getting in a woman's pants. I wasn't sure if I would like him at all! But reading about him coming to realize just what he was doing to other women but to fully understand his reason's for his actions and how much they affect his day to day life was a beautiful thing! I loved how he sat down and actually spoke to other people to get their help on how to make the changes he knew he needed to make in order to become the person he could be. How he realized that he could lean on his family and they would always come through for him. Lia went through a horrible time and came through it stronger and it definitely makes you understand why she wouldn't want to be with someone with the reputation that Aiden has. But I love how she takes a chance and finds out that there is more to him than his reputation. That he had the capability to BE more than what he always shows to the world. And then you throw in this beautiful little girl and you just can't help but fall in love with him. Especially with the way he treats Emily!! I loved it! I love the fact that you can redeem the proverbial player and have him be the ultimate family man. I love that this beautiful little girl has so many people that are willing to love and support her no matter what. And I absolutely loved how their story and chance at love played at. It was perfect!
‘Military duty called them away to war zones, but after tours overseas, the group of friends found their way back home as men, seeking the peaceful little seaside town. Now, the band of brothers, together once more, work to provide a place for less fortunate veterans to call home.’
Hear My Heart is the eighth instalment in the Baytown Boys series by Maryann Jordan. Having seen these books pop up on social media and reading my GR friend’s reviews of the series I started collecting the books quite some time ago, but has taken me till now to finally plunge in. Maryann Jordan’s Baytown Boys series is a 17-book romantic suspense saga that masterfully weaves together themes of camaraderie, love, healing, and personal redemption. Set in the fictional coastal town of Baytown, an idyllic seaside town, this series follows a close-knit group of former military friends who return home from service overseas and strive to create a supportive environment for themselves and less fortunate veterans. Ms. Jordan’s storytelling fuses small-town charm with emotional depth, making the setting a vivid and integral component of her storyline/s. Each book centers around a different MC, exploring their unique struggles and romantic journeys. The veterans’ experiences and wartime scars are written with sensitivity and authenticity, adding an extra element of emotional resonance to the relationships and characters personal growth. Ms. Jordan cleverly balances romance with mystery and suspense. From murder investigations to drug rings, each plot includes high-stakes elements that kept me engaged, all while the romantic tension sizzled. But, beyond the romance/s, intrigue, and action - the stories also show the healing power of friendship, love, and a supportive community - which created a warm and reassuring backdrop for the more intense elements. This series is ideal for readers of contemporary romantic suspense with a military element and small-town setting. Happy Reading…
Where first impressions are better the second time around….
When we assume what’s on the surface level of a person, our first impressions can often lead us astray. For both Aidan and Lia… their first impressions of each other - are pretty dismal, not so great. It will take a special young lady, Lia’s daughter, Emily that will show everyone, the power of trust and that new possibilities are better the second time around. How our first impressions can be changed for the better. That there is always someone special that will make an impact, in more ways than can be counted that lead us to something new and lasting.
I found this a wonderful dichotomy inside the HEAR MY HEART storyline… for both character’s their previous relationships had great first impressions, yet left a bitter taste of mistrust, doubt and insecurity as those relationships developed.
Maryann Jordan has gifted readers another beautiful story of the special bonds of love and trust when you risk taking a second chance at life and love. Blended with the suspense and intrigue that comes Lia’s way in her job as a forensic accountant, that delving into a case, has major ramifications… can Aiden protect a beautiful woman and her precious daughter, as he is only just beginning to realise, they may mean more than he’s ever considered before?
I have loved the Baytown Boys series, catching up with previous characters and their loved ones. I continue to be impressed with the wonderful stories that Maryann Jordan delivers to her readers You will be drawn from the first words until it’s conclusion. A romance, a second chance amongst this page-turning drama, suspense and intrigue.
Lia Smith, a forensic accountant, finds her way to Baytown. Looking for a new start, Lia and her daughter, move to Baytown. Tired of being labeled the "widow of a fallen hero", when she knows otherwise, Lia buys the local accounting business when the owner retires. Lia is approached by the Mayor to look into the town's books as he believes someone is stealing money. Being an election year, the Mayor wants the matter handled discreetly. When Lia starts receiving prank calls, escalating to property damage, she begins to doubt her decision to move to Baytown.
Aiden MacFarland is the easy going, live life to the fullest MacFarland. After having a life changing experience in the military, Aiden vowed to always live life to the fullest-never settling down. When he first meets Lia, a misunderstanding puts them at odds. When Lia's partially deaf daughter goes missing at the town picnic, Aiden searches high and low to find the missing girl. When he returns her to Lia, he realizes how wrong he was and vows to get to know them better.
Although I've read every novel in this series, this one is considerably different. A good different! While there's a little bit of mystery surrounding the money embezzlement, it's not as suspenseful as the other novels. It's sweeter! It's all about not judging people, looking for the truth. It has all the "feels"! When the town rallies behind Lia's daughter, using sign language, so that she's able to play baseball...sooooo sweet and inspirational. This novel made my heart happy and filled me with hope. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
I truly love this series, I can smell the breeze on the bay and see the sunrises and sunsets in my mind as I read about these men and women.
Every one of the 'Baytown Boys' has a story that is related to his service in some way. Aiden's is not something that happened to him, but something that he witnessed and affected him more deeply than he realized.
Aiden is the party boy, always joking and having fun. He also has quite the reputation as a ladies man.
Amelia has bought Thomas Redding's accounting business. He is finally retiring at the age of 80. She and her daughter have settled on the outskirts of town, just in North Heron County.
Their first meeting is less than auspicious. However, after Aiden finds her daughter Emily when she wanders off during the music festival, he manages to get a date. A date doesn't turn out well because of a couple of run ins with former flings.
While Aiden tries to figure out how to make things right with Lia, she is deep into a forensic investigation of the town's finances, at the request of the Town Council.
As things heat up with Aiden so do things in her investigation.
Fast paced with plenty of suspense, lots of soul searching and just the right amount of sizzle. Topped off with a few surprises.
Amelia “Lia” Smith is a single mom raising her hearing-impaired daughter, Emily. When she first meets Aiden McFarlane, it doesn’t go well. They both form mistaken ideas about each other, but there’s still an underlying attraction. When Lia pushes away, having doubts about Aiden’s ability to commit, he knows Lia and Emily are worth fighting for. The more they get to know about each other, the closer they grow, but as they are overcoming their personal trials, there’s someone who is threatening Lia and Emily. Aiden’s determined to do whatever it takes to keep his girls safe.
Lia and Aiden’s love story is just amazing. It’s full of emotions, with moments of great sadness and moments of great joy. There’s plenty of drama, heartwarming and heart wrenching, with some suspense and danger, steamy passion and a deep, abiding love. You will be drawn in from the very beginning with well-developed characters and a wonderfully engaging storyline. The action is fast paced and will keep you involved from start to finish. Fair warning you should keep a box of tissues handy. You’re going to need them, even at the end!
Although each story in this series can be read as a standalone, the Baytown Boys characters are integrated into the whole series. This really adds to the overall enjoyment of each story. I highly recommend you read this remarkable story and series!
Once again, this very talented author gives us a story that will touch your hearts. We are back in Baytown , with the “boys”, now men, who went to do their military duty in hopes of exploring the world, and came back to the warmth of home and family. This time the story belongs to Aiden MacFarlane, the unattached sibling and co-owner of the local pub, Finn’s. A man of many layers who only starts to “discover” his real self when he meets the young widow Lia Smith and her daughter Emily. The story is full of misunderstanding, family , friendships, mystery and of course romance. Even though the road is at times bumpy, these two start to open their hearts to a possibility of a future. If you have read some of the previous books, you will get a chance to catch up with the characters you came to love. In addition to the engaging story presented by the author, there is also the reminder of the need to support the returning troops that put their lives in danger for our freedom. Thank you , Ms . Jordan, for that reminder. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I really enjoyed this latest book in the Baytown Boys series!! This is the story of Aidan and Lia. Aidan is the happy go lucky guy of the group...always joking around and never taking things too seriously. As of late he has wanted the same as his friends and family....the connection with that special someone. When he meets Lia and her daughter Emily...Aidan is intrigued and wants to get to know them better. A series of misunderstandings leads to wrong impressions about each other. In time they both realize that neither person is what they seemed. Even though there is a spark of attraction between them....do they take a chance and see if there is something more there? I really enjoyed their story....I was hooked from beginning to end. It was great catching up with prior characters and seeing where they are in their lives. I highly recommend this book at all and can't wait to see what is next for the Baytown Boys series....well done!!!!!
Aiden is known has the play boy of Baytown always joking and only one night stands definitely no commitments. Amelia(Lia) is a single mother to Emily who has hearing difficulties, they have just moved to Baytown where she has taken over a business from someone who has retiring. When they meet sparks fly but not in a good way. The rest you will have to read yourself and let me say you will not be disappointed, there is loss, heartache, sadness, pain and it is very emotional with twists and turns along the way. Wow I have been waiting patiently for Aiden's story for so long and Maryann never disappoints her readers. She always writes with compassion even when writing difficult situations and subjects and you can tell that she puts everything that she has into her writing. I definitely recommend this book and you will not want to put it down. I Voluntarily Reviewed an ARC Copy Of This Book.
O.M.G. This one is fantastic! This is a great enemies (well maybe not enemies but severely dislike) to lover story. Baytown’s Peter Pan is growing up. Aiden has been a one night stand champion for years but Lia, the new accountant in town has his attention. They have a squabble or two before he finds out her daughter who is hearing impaired is missing at a concert in the park. He finds Emily and she steals his heart. The two settle their differences and begin dating but Aiden’s past comes back to bite him big time. Meanwhile, Lia begins a forensic investigation involving funds stolen from the city. Threats are coming from everywhere and Aiden is determined to keep his girls safe as feelings grow. I loved how Aiden searched out for help with his past actions, nightmares and feelings. Lia has her own demons with her deceased baby daddy too. This is one you don’t want to miss.
Another beautiful story in the Baytown series! Loved Aiden and Lia's story. I have wondered who would be the one to get Aiden and Lia was perfect! Her adorable daughter Emily was a great addition to the story. I am always impressed with how Ms. Jordan adds so much real life into the stories. It makes them more real and believable I love that aspect of it. I always enjoy bringing the Veterans issues forward and the American Legion and Auxiliary. Lia had been through a lot being a young mother and losing her husband. She found the family she deserves and a place to fit in with her daughter. Great story, they were amazing together! I am a huge fan of Mary Ann Jordan books and again this is certainly no exception. Always on the edge of my seat trying to solve the mystery.
Aiden was the fun-loving kid growing up in Baytown. After returning from Military Service Aiden appears to go back to that way of life, but as an adult. Soon, watching his siblings and friends find their significant others and start families Aiden is recognizing that the partying life- style is getting old, as is he. Lia and Emily walk into his life and it's definitely "not a pretty picture". Lia and Aiden find each other attractive, but they only see the bad in each others personalities. Emily, Lia's daughter is the catalyst for their relationship, their introspective looks into their own lives and learning about each others past and hopes for the future. As always, Maryann has provided us with a sound story with a mystery twist. I also enjoyed catching up with the other Baytown friends, Thanks Maryann!
I just love it when the person you like to dislike gets his in the end. I hope that this isn't the end of the Baytown Boys series as I have enjoyed every single one and Aiden's story is no different.
Coming back to Baytown is like visiting old friends and meeting new ones. Ms. Jordan's writing makes me want to be in Baytown and sit in Finn's pub for a beer. I want to pull up a stool and listen to the gossip!
Amelia and her daughter are wonderful characters and it's awesome that Emily has a disability but that isn't stopping her from joining the American Legion team. The story has quite a few twists and turns that kept me wanting to read well into the night. There were quite a few typos that I found but other than that is was a terrific book. It pulls at the heart strings and the title is very appropriate and sweet.
Absolutely Beautiful . Absolutely one of the best stories . I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Hear My Heart . I also purchased it for my own collection . I fell in love with this series with book #1 . I love the entire series . This story is #8 in the series . It is absolutely beautiful , emotional , and suspenseful also . It's all in all spectacular . Such a well written story . I think the characters both old and new are wonderful . Aiden and Amelia's growing relationship is so fantastic . I love their story . I absolutely love Baytown Boys series . I hope this series never ends . I highly recommend reading this story . I hope you enjoy this story as much as I do . A must read . A favorite of 2018 .
4.5 Stars This fabulous story is book 8 in the Baytown Boys series and it features Aiden and Lia. Their background stories give credence to the people they are today. Lia’s story is so hurtful! Aiden’s story is a product of his tour in Afghanistan while in the Marines. They needed each other so much. The romance was beautiful, easy and scorching HOT! Leah’s daughter Emily was a little treasure and gave the story a little more sweetness. It was the mystery and suspense of Lia’s job as a forensic accountant that made it a great read for me.
The characters are fantastic and I wish they were all my friends. The storyline had good progression and everything fit. I can’t wait to read more from this amazing author.
If there is one thing the military taught Aiden is that you have to enjoy life to the fullest as you never know what is around the corner. Co-owning and working at the bar is a perfect match to his philosophy but he never expected his world to be turned upside down by Lia
Lia is a widow and single mother to her daughter Emily who has recently moved to town to take over the accounting office.
Their first meeting did not go well but when she needed him he was there and now that she is in danger he will do whatever is necessary to keep her and her daughter safe and find out who is behind the threats.
This is a wonderful story full of suspense, romance and emotion. The characters draw you in and have you invested in their happy ever after.
Best so far. Did not think the stories could get more intense, scary, and wonderful. I am going to hate to see this series end. The ending brought tears to my eyes. Aiden who had such a hard time coming back from war, finally he was able to open his heart and find love, happiness and a ready made family. Emily and Lia after a tough start and a man who could not accept his daughter for who she is and deserting them way before his end in the war, finally can trust again. It was not said by words but Emily is now Aiden’s and Aiden now Emily’s forever. I knew who they devil was from the beginning. Baytown Boys who are now Baytown Men and their families and whole town are amazing and such a family. Too bad our world today can’t be a Baytown.
This is another Maryann Jordan book that I really loved. Love and suspense...Aiden is a man who enjoys life, family, friends and all that it encompasses. Having been in the military, he doesn’t have PTSD but has suppressed some things that have affected how he looks at romantic entanglements. Aiden makes conclusions about new businesswoman in town, Lia, who has a little girl, Emily. After some more time running into one another, they come to a mutual understanding. The town is having some financial issues that Lia is looking into with her business. Some suspense, romance and love....in the continuing story about the beloved Baytown.
Maryann Jordan has another winner with Hear My Heart. The Baytown Series has characters that we all can relate to. In this story we have Amelia, single mother who is an independent woman protecting her child. Emily is adorable. It is interesting to watch Aiden go from a player to a man ready and willing to settle down. His story of what drives him and haunts him is emotional and will have you in your feelings. There is a special meaning to the title of the book that will pull on your heart strings. In true Jordan fashion there is mystery and suspense. Every time I think I have solved the mystery, Maryann surprises me. I received this book as an ARC for my honest review.
I love Maryann Jordan and I love a good single mom/playboy romance. Combining these two is just icing on the cake. This is the story of Aiden home for good and not ready to settle down he is just one the Baytown boys having a good time, which makes him exactly not Lia's type. Lia is an account, widow and single mom, she does not have time to fool with a player. But as their paths cross during Lia's investigation of the towns' stolen money and she finds herself threatened, Aiden might just be the one for her and her daughter after all. A great addition to the already wonderful world of the Baytown boys. If you loved any of Maryann's other books you will want to read this. A great book.
Maryann Jordan's characters are so unbelievably engaging. Their humanity shines through in each story she writes no matter what the backdrop is, you can't help but root for them and a happily ever after. She gives her readers the right mix of suspense, intrigue, romance and love with some dangerous moments stirred in.
This love story involves a triangle; a man, a woman and an adorable five year old girl. Aiden finally finds, in Lia and Emily, what his life is missing. It's a rocky road at first but this threesome are destined to become a family. Lia's honesty and Emily's precociousness fill Aiden's heart to overflowing.
Another great add to the series. Aiden has been one of my favorites since we met him so I couldn't wait to get started on his story and meet his forever woman; Lia. This couple is definitely something we haven't seen before where Lia has loved and lost, and has a daughter. I loved being able to see inside Aiden and know what was going on behind the smile. Lia and Emily are adorable and the interaction with them was genuine and beautiful. First impressions don't mean everything and you have to work hard sometimes to tell yourself to see more then what you thought was there. Loved it and can't wait for the next. I voluntarily reviewed an 'Advance Author’s Copy' of this book.
This one brought a few tears. Jordan has crafted a good love story, with a new character in town, her small daughter and expectations that are dashed again and again. No one expects a small town to have corruption, but it does. No one expected the player to settle down with a woman who has a daughter, and that happens too. Aiden is the third owner of Finn's Pub, along with his brother and sister. He's always been a no-strings-attached guy until he meets Lia and her daughter Emily. They don't meet "cute"; they don't get along at all until they each toss their expectations. They also locate the source of the corruption and Lia is the hero.
OMG! What a truly touching story! I love that Aiden found his happiness in Kia and Emily. I love that Maryann was very thoughtful to Emily's hearing situation. I am happy that Kia was able to find love and trust in Aiden. Finally, Silas is no longer going to be a problem. I knew he was a bad dude but to try and kill a mother and child was just plain evil. I was thoroughly touched when Aiden asked permission to Emily to be her daddy. I got tears in my eyes. I am happy that these two found their happily ever after! What a FANTASTIC job Maryann! I would highly recommend this book.😁
