Join cryptozoologist Dr. William Maxwell as he travels the four corners of the world! In his first adventure, he finds himself in Canada!
Dr. Maxwell is asked by his peers at the Canadian Council of Cryptids if he can assist them in dealing with yet another sasquatch incident in British Columbia. Always keen to teach the truth about sasquatches (that they are not the big scary beasts we have long been led to believe), he packs his bags and sails across the Seven Seas!
Along the way, he will encounter a few other magical, fantastical, and mythological creatures that call Canada their home and native land!
Avery Greaves’ love of all things magical, fantastical, and mythological is the result of 90s/early 2000s television shows like Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and X-Men: Evolution. Aside from being a writer, Avery is also a librarian, where she recommends all of her favourite books to unsuspecting patrons. When she isn’t writing or book slinging, she can be found lazing around with her husband (also a writer) and their two fuzzy felines. Her family lives along the beautiful Lake Huron in rural Ontario, Canada.
"The Curious Case of the Canadian Cryptids: Book 1" by Avery Greaves is an exploration of various mythical creatures rumored to inhabit Canada. Each cryptid is given its due attention, with concise descriptions and engaging anecdotes that paint vivid pictures of these mythical beings. The author showcases a commendable knack for storytelling, making these creatures come alive within the reader's imagination.
The strength of the book lies in its ability to nicely blend factual information with an intriguing allure, appealing to both seasoned enthusiasts of cryptozoology and newcomers to the subject. The writing style is engaging and clear, catering to a broad audience encompassing diverse ages and interests.
While I found the book thoroughly enjoyable, it left me eager for more. Expanding its length slightly could have allowed for deeper exploration.

I was given a copy of this book by the author and this is my families honest review.
Oldest son comments: Pretty good. Second son comments: really good for someone who loves cryptids. Youngest daughter comments: I liked the book because I like Bigfoot. Its a good kids book.
Mom comments: Everyone agreed it had great info about cryptids. It engaged the kids and had them discussing things like garden gnomes and what the definition of a cryptid is. I liked how the community came together and helped out. There was also a lot of humor throughout. The chapters are short so it is easy to read to groups/classes.
This book was so endearing . A professor was asked to go to Canada on the hunt for a Sasquatch. But what he found out will surprise you. This story is about coming together and working as team to get this worked out for the greater good. I really enjoyed this story and I’m sure you will too. I highly recommend it.
This is exactly the kind of book I would've loved as a child. Heartwarming with a touch of magic (the different creatures) and a happy ending about coming together and helping each other. Such a wonderful comfort read even for an adult.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
These books are perfect for teens and a younger audience into mythical creatures and beings, they provide clear and intriguing explanations of these creatures. The characters are interesting and there's a nice kid friendly sense of humour throughout them.
Not only is this an adorable story involving Sasquatches and garden gnomes, but the target age group can learn some life lessons on asking for help and honesty. This would be great for a classroom library!
