In the aftermath of genetic experiments gone tragically wrong, humankind is on the brink of extinction. It is artificially intelligent Calista’s task to rebuild the population, and Wonder is her proving ground. In competitions that are grueling, humbling—even humiliating—she conditions her elite candidates to lead humanity into the future.
Seventeen-year-old Carter Simms has been chosen to compete in Wonder. He knows it’s an honor. He also knows that failure means a one-way trip to Oblivion, where he will spend the rest of his short life in a frozen wasteland. The only bright spot is his flirty best friend will be in Wonder with him, and with her, the promise his summer will be anything but predictable. So, with a measure of hope he can avoid exile, and maybe even have some fun, Carter resolves to compete in Calista’s games.
Then Carter discovers Wonder is not all it seems. There are disturbing secrets hidden behind its walls. Some of which are too terrible to believe. But Carter can’t help his self-destructive search for truth. He picks at the mysteries of the world he thought he understood. He tumbles in the rankings. And with the chill of Oblivion on his shoulders, Carter must choose—the truth or his friend—because he can’t have both.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Joseph Nassise says Wonderfall is “A damn good story with enough twists and turns to keep even this jaded reader on his toes.” It’s a story that will keep you guessing until the very last page.
A bit of an interesting twist on AI taking over the world mixed with strange dystopian set. Oh, and sort of a love story as well. The story is really hard to give a review without giving the to many reveals. I did like it and may read the second second book after I decide to order. I do recommend reading it if you like Dystopian with a bit of a warning, It's not Hunger Games.
This book very easily became my favourite sci-fi I have ever read. Is the inside safe, or the outside? Is the artificial intelligence running the inside good, or bad? Is anybody ever truly real? What does that mean anyway? Such a good read, and relitively simple in grammar and spelling. I'd have loved this as a kid, however the robots could be scary so I'd say ages 8+
An awesome read for every fan of YA dystopian sci-fi! With its well-paced story and likeable characters, it keeps the reader interested till the very last page. Plot twists enthusiasts will be satisfied, too! Finished this one in two sittings, and I definitely want some more! :)
Interesting dystopian world with plenty of twists and turns to keep you invested the whole way through! My only complaint is that the other books to the series haven’t been released yet, so I’ll be waiting in anticipation until then.
