I fell for Madeline Mason the moment I laid eyes on her fifteen years ago.
But she was the definition of off-limits.
The mother of one of my subordinates in the Rangers. Strike one.
Married. Strike two. Lived in another state. Strike three.

None of that stopped us from desiring each other.
Tragically, it was never the right time for us.
Her life was in near-constant turmoil, and I was building my legacy at Redleg Security.

So I waited for her.
For years, I wished for a someday that I feared would never come.

After she divorced her abusive husband, I hoped our time had arrived.
Then tragedy struck.

I should have moved on.
But a woman like her comes along once in a lifetime.

One night, passion took over. And she was finally mine.
Or so I thought.
Despite our intense feelings, she insists we keep our love a secret.

She’s my everything.
But what am I to her?

Before I can break through her walls, my life turns upside down.
A fight with a dangerous enemy puts her in the crossfire. And a surprise from my past gives her an excuse to run away from her feelings.

As everything unravels, I’m left wondering if I've spent my life loving a woman who will never choose me.

Author Note:
Bossy Hero isn't a standalone novel. This is the culmination of the entire Redleg Security saga and is meant to be read as part of the series. While you might be able to follow along if you read this story on its own, it's highly discouraged and likely to be somewhat confusing, especially in regards to the suspense plot that's been brewing for several books and the influence of multiple side characters and how they impact the main couple in this story.

Content warnings will be available on the author's website prior to publication.

Jackie brings you stories featuring her signature blend of comedy, spice, suspense, multi-faceted characters, and romantic, heartwarming moments. A voracious romance reader herself, Jackie writes stories featuring the four
Ss: Suspense, Swoons, Steam, and Sarcasm.

Her heroines are badass, and her heroes are easy on the eyes and heavy on the charm. She loves writing characters with real emotions, flaws, and mental health issues and is known to send them to therapy where they belong. Let’s normalize that shit.

When she is not writing stories about swoony heroes and the women who get to play with them, she is avoiding life with an audiobook in her ears or taking care of her army of cats and peacocks or hanging with her teenage son (who also speaks fluent sarcasm).

My oh my!!! I cannot believe the series has ended (for now *wink wink*) I absolutely loved this chaos of a book!! But one thing about Jackie I love the most SHE ADDRESSES EVERYTHING! So you get the full closure (tho I’m still not ready to say goodbye).

This book was soo close to reality or what it could be rather than sugarcoating the harshness of dealing with abuse both in childhood and then an abusive marriage.
On how Maddie isn’t swooped within few weeks of introduction to Alan eventhough she feels something for him yet she works on herself to be better and find herself. And Alan oh my Alan that man I have no words since the first page you see how resilient and patient he is with her, how calm, how tolerant, and so compliant to her every request so respectful even when he was dying to be with her for 15 years. He was literally a teddy bear for her Every scene, every interaction, every loaded glance served a purpose, creating an experience and scene that was impossible to put down. I love how Alan never downplayed her trauma or sugarcoated it he gave her such patient replies!! Agh I can go on and on about Big Al!

Maddie my sweet Maddie oh how much my heart aches for her, how she is so brave! This book really showed how the abused is not just a victim but a survivor, their bravery and courage is what makes them strong. And how the situations they are in makes them vulnerable and helpless Godd!!!
Maddies talk with Leo, and her bond with Sammy is what I truly adore I love how her kids asked her reasons head on and she answered them! She rebuilt herself and Alan was the glue that held together the pieces of her soul and it really showed… when I tell you it was slow burn it was but that was needed for Maddies journey of finding herself and trusting herself to fully love Big Al. It took time but she got there how she stayed strong for her kids, then and now she really was their rock despite her own battles she really is a mama bear!

I loved how she called Big Al on his bs and wasn’t afraid seeing her journey through healing was beautiful! And Big Al working on his relationship with his daughter and fighting his inner turmoil regarding Tomer while his own trauma was being felt and triggered was heartbreaking and tragic yet the patience of that man!!!!
I wished I saw more of Big Al with Leo and him retiring while Leo took over anywho it’s not the end anyways!

The overarching journey woven through these books, as the characters battle to bring down their enemies, is captivating. The unexpected turns. That feeling when you think it’s all wrapped up—and then, out of nowhere, another twist hits. It makes the final showdown that much more satisfying. The happily-ever-after for this couple, and for every character we’ve followed, lands with a poignant mix of joy and sorrow as everything finally comes together.

I’ve truly grown attached to these characters. Their hilarious moments, their relatability, their inner monologues, the way they feel so vivid and three-dimensional. Jackie Walker masterfully created a series that lingers in your mind long after the last page. It’s the kind of story where, if you ever forgot it, you’d be lucky—because you’d get to fall in love with it all over again.

This was such an epic ending to a series I’ve absolutely adored and I’m SO sad it’s over. I knew the final book would be amazing and it exceeded my expectations by a lot and they were already very high. I’ve been curious for what feels like forever about Maddie and Al’s relationship and all the answers to my burning questions were wrapped up perfectly. Their history was even more complicated and heartbreaking than I was expecting and it made so much sense for both of their characters. There has been a high stakes suspense storyline woven throughout the entire series and things finally come to a head here. The combination of tension regarding that plot line and having the entire Redleg family together for much of the book was just perfect. I adore these characters and love the humor, the found family, the spice and the authentic way the author writes. Def don’t start here but you should read the whole series because it’s excellent and the audio for all are 🤌🏻💋 This installment is narrated by Aiden Snow and Emma Wilder and wow they were cast so perfectly as Maddie and Al. This story was emotional and they both captured those feelings so well, and then the next minute Aiden is growly and I’m 🫠 Emma has the sweetest voice and sounded exactly how I imagined Maddie would. Clearly I loved this one, again listen to the whole series on audio if you like witty and smart romantic suspense!

This is the finale in a big romantic suspense series, and I really don’t think you could read this as a stand alone as the entire backstory is woven into all of the books and the cast of characters is large. So if you’re interested, I think you need to invest in reading at least the trio of books right before this one, but really you should read all of them because they are amazing! I have been looking forward to this couple since the very beginning! I wish I connected more with the story though; it was just so difficult to watch the FMC constantly push the MMC away with all of her self sabotage and doubts. I get it from her perspective but it wasn’t my favorite. I’m glad they finally got their HEA though, and there were parts that had me literally cackling (like all Jackie books). I do wish that we had more time with them together after the final conflict resolution to see them settle into the happiness more. This book was much lighter on spice than all of the previous books in this series since it focuses more on the emotional and mental states of the characters rather than the physical. As with all Jackie books, it was well written with a good plot. She dropped some Easter eggs in there about a few characters from previous books either in this series or her other series, so I’m looking forward to where she takes us next!

It can’t be the end, it just CAN’T! My gosh. I love the Redleg Security series SO MUCH! This has been such an incredible journey to be on with the entire team, so it’s fitting that Boss’s story is the final book in the series. After all, Boss started Redleg, so he should end it too. But like not in the literal sense lol, Redleg will carry on, perhaps with those spin offs I know we’re all just dying for! I love that we FINALLY got Boss and Maddie’s backstories, not just with each other, but the struggles they faced individually. All of that was masterfully brought to life by the incomparable Aiden Snow and Emma Wilder. They gave a fantastic performance and whew 😮‍💨 can they bring out that dirty talk!

From the moment Big Al laid eyes on Madeline, he was gone for her. A damsel in distress was like his kryptonite. Maddie had shown up near base all those years ago looking for help from her son Leo, when in reality it was Big Al, Alan, Lancaster would act as her protector instead. From that point on, the feelings between them grew, but time is a fickle bitch. Well, more like Maddie’s husband was a horrific dicknozzle. So it would take what felt like a lifetime, along with a lot of regret, guilt, second, third, and tenth second chances, and many other trials and tribulations, before the two would finally end up together.

With this being the last book in the series, I would not recommend reading it as a standalone. I think you would miss to much information with the backstory and characters, especially when it comes to Lenkov. Plus, this is such a kickass series with some of the BEST characters I’ve ever read, that you don’t want to miss a second of it! Boss and Maddie are such a great couple who have some major past trauma to overcome. How Maddie was able to stay as sweet and caring after all she went through is mind boggling, but having Boss be so supportive and understanding, loving her through and despite everything? GAHHH! OMG I just love them so much! I love too that our beloved Jackie also puts in real life, getting older, stuff. Like, maybe lube is needed, or once you’re on your knees (for no particular reason…) you may just not be able to get back up again without assistance. 😅 The realness mixed in with the fiction is one of the reasons I love her writing so much.

My goodness did I love Aiden Snow as Boss! He made Big Al real in so many ways, it was such a great performance. All the nuances, vibes, emotions, wit, dirty talk, all of it, just narrated to perfection. Not to mention he has the best low tenor 🫠 And then there is Emma Wilder. She did such a bang up job as Madeline! I rave about her male voice, but really everything she does she is extremely skilled at! Maddie is such a battered yet sweet character, and Wilder made that reflection come out in the narration. It pulled at the old heartstrings! Snow and Wilder did. this. book. justice!

Thank you Jackie Walker for having me be part of your ALC team, so that I have the privilege to listen and review this audiobook! This series is one of my favorites of all time and I will recommend it until I’m blue in the face! I hope that everyone listens to this book, but to the entire series. You have created a world like no other, and I’m so thankful you did!

🐴“I’m fighting for you Maddie, and waiting for you to do the same, just like I’ve been waiting for more than a damn decade. Awesome Narration & Ending to an Amazing Series!

Bossy Hero
Redleg Security, Book 8
By: Jackie Walker
Narrated by: Aiden Snow, Emma Wilder

Jackie Walker takes us full circle with this eighth book of her amazing “Redleg Security” series, Big Al and Madeline “Maddie” Mason’s story. Big Al, former army ranger, founder and creator of Redleg Security, and the boss of the team. The story starts with his younger self, a twenty-one-year-old, looking to have the time of his life, but it was a night he will never forget and carries the weight of it for the rest of his life. He had a great team while serving in the Army, and when one of his men, Leo Mason, said his mom was in trouble, he went along to help her, Madeline. He felt an instant connection to her that night, but it wasn’t their time yet, not by choice though, but by circumstance, and she wasn’t ready or strong enough to leave her life behind. They kept in touch, and a friendship developed and continued through the years. When Big Al left the Army, he started Redleg, with Leo and Sawyer, joining him and a few others he met along the way, another he considered a son. Al never gives up on Madeline and leaves the ball in her court, and after unsuccessful attempts at severing her relationship with her abusive husband, she finally gets the courage to do it, but her confidence is shot and not yet ready. Besides the romance storyline, we get glimpses of events that occurred with the Redleg team up to their present and the ongoing case from the start of the series comes to a head for an exciting ending. Walker crafted a multilayered story with complex characters and witty dialogue, and I loved how it all played out with plenty of drama, angst, action, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and a years in the making, but so worth the wait romance. Both Alan and Madeline battled with their past demons, each having heartbreaking backstories, but once they opened up about it, it did not have the power to hurt them anymore. The Redleg family is a found family, love the camaraderie amongst them and I am going to miss them all. Jackie Walker, thank you for this amazing story and world you created and the wild and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Jackie Walker chose the perfect cast to bring her characters and story to life. Aiden Snow and Emma Wilder are superbly talented voice artists, and they did an amazing job voicing and humanizing the characters, delivering a perfect portrayal of each. Wilder absolutely nailed it as Maddie, grasping every aspect of her personality, from her fierceness to her strength. Snow did the same for Big Al and was just as amazing. Both were fantastic performing the roles of the side and secondary characters. Their pacing and tone were just right for the story and they handled the witty dialogue effortlessly. You could hear how much heart they put into their performance as they capture all the characters’ emotions and have you feeling each one. They are entertaining storytellers and their performance captivates you and keeps you riveted to the story.

Bossy Hero by Jackie Walker

Bossy Hero was everything I wanted and everything I didn't know I needed in the book closing out Walker's first round of the Redleg Security series. It is the eighth and final entry in the Redleg Security series and contained all the usual hallmarks of this author's wit and humor and of course extra spicy scenes with a silver fox that will get your pulse pounding and raise your body temp. The mysteries woven into the plot kept me on my toes, and I definitely wasn't able to predict how things would unfold.

This particular entry is told from the perspective of Big Al, the boss and surrogate father to all of the wonderful Redleg guards whose stories came before and Maddie Mason, Leo and Sammy's mother and Sue and Sawyer's mother-in-law. This book is one where to truly understand what's going on, you really need to have read the previous books in the series. You could try it as a standalone, but i think it might be a bit confusing without the context from the other books before it. Each book prior to this gives you glimpses of the relationship between Alan and Maddie and the overarching plot starting with Shep and Kri's book and finally resolving in Bossy Hero in very satisfying fashion. Bossy Hero takes those glimpses of Big Al, Maddie, and their relationship and fills in the back story around the moments we see in the other books from their perspective as well as giving us a look into the love, longing, and relationship between the two that spanned over a decade and a half. We also get to learn more about each of their pasts and the things that stand as roadblocks to "someday" for the pair. The pacing of the book was excellent, the HEA for Boss and Maddie, as well as the HEA to the overarching plot spanning the lasy several books were incredibly satisfying. The spicy scenes were extra spicy and definitely have me wishing for my own silver fox, but maybe don't read them out in public (or do, your choice). I appreciated that the characters were older and there was frank talk about hormones and menopause. As someone approaching peri myself, it was nice to feel seen. My favorite parts: Big Al's unwavering loyalty/devotion and his patience - where can I find a man like this? - and Maddie's transformation from fragile to full on Mama Bear! I also loved the cameos from Redleg family from all the previous books. Overall this was the perfect culmination to this leg of the series, and I can't wait to see what this author comes out with next!

A note I want to mention upfront, this book does include sensitive topics and possible trauma triggers, so please do be sure to check out the trigger warnings before reading as this author always does a wonderful job of making sure to call them out.

No cheating or other woman plotlines or anything like that.

Some of the tropes/themes include: He falls first, Touch her and die, Her son's boss, Secret relationship, Found Family

A Romance That Will Steal Your Heart

Jackie Walker's "Bossy Hero" is the kind of book that reminds you why you fell in love with romance novels in the first place. As the latest addition to the Redleg Security Series, this gem had me canceling plans and staying up way too late—and I don't regret a single lost hour of sleep.

From the very first page, Walker's writing pulls you into a world that feels both exciting and deeply real. The chemistry between the main characters practically sizzles off the page, but what really sets this book apart is how Walker builds tension. Every scene, every interaction, every loaded glance serves a purpose, creating a reading experience that's impossible to put down.

The security industry backdrop adds just the right amount of intrigue without overshadowing the central romance. Walker clearly knows her stuff, painting a convincing picture of this world while keeping the focus firmly on the developing relationship at the heart of the story.

What I particularly loved was how naturally the romance develops. There's no forced drama here—just genuine emotions and real stakes that had me completely invested in these characters' happiness. The dialogue crackles with wit and authenticity, and Walker's trademark humor provides perfect moments of lightness between the more intense scenes.

The supporting cast is equally well-drawn, adding depth to the story without stealing the spotlight. If you're new to the series, you can absolutely start here, though fair warning: you'll probably want to go back and read the rest immediately after finishing this one.

Walker has outdone herself with "Bossy Hero." It's the perfect blend of romance, tension, and heart, wrapped in a package that's impossible to resist. This is the kind of book that demands to be read in one sitting, preferably with your favorite comfort drink and zero interruptions.

Whether you're a long-time fan of romantic suspense or new to the genre, "Bossy Hero" delivers everything you could want: compelling characters, sizzling chemistry, and a story that will stay with you long after you've turned the last page. It's an absolute must-read that earns every one of its five stars.

Clear your schedule, find your coziest reading spot, and prepare to fall in love with your next favorite book. Just don't blame me if you end up ordering the rest of the series before you've even finished this one!

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Performance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️️
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️️

I just love this series! And I was very happy to finally learn Big Al's story. However, to get the full enjoyment of reading, I recommend reading this series in order.
As always, the author's writing style is wonderful and easy-going. Once I started reading, the story captivated me and I couldn't put it down. No wonder with the hot voice of Aiden Snow.
What I found great was that the story spans several years or decades. The age of the main protagonists was also positive for me, as Big Al and Maddie are both in their 50s.
And folks, get ready for a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The story offers so many emotions. It made me laugh sometimes, cry sometimes because it was so sad and sometimes I wanted to shake one of them.
Maddie has been through a lot and her story is heartbreaking. Big Al fell in love with her the first time they met. He is very protective and caring, but he gives her the time she needs. The two of them together are sweet and I could understand Big Al's - or as Maddie calls him, Alan's - patience breaking at some point. There are some really difficult themes in this book and I absolutely loved the way the author dealt with them.
In addition to the love story, there is also the hunt for the kidnapper of Big Al's daughter, which is no less exciting because the Russians have declared war on Big Al. You might be surprised who else is in cahoots with the criminals or who is not in cahoots with the criminals. Get ready for lots of action!
And what I really loved was Redleg Security - the found family that stands up for each other, even when things get difficult.
I listened to the audiobook and at just under 18 hours it comes in at a decent length. But guys, I enjoyed every single hour of this exciting, entertaining, captivating and emotional story by Bossy Hero. I was captivated from start to finish and I'm really a bit sad that this great series is now coming to an end. One thing is for sure, I will be listening to the series a second time at some point.

Aiden Snow and Emma Wilder narrated the audiobook and they did a brilliant job of bringing the story to life. Both have very pleasant voices and both are very good at portraying the emotions of the characters. As I said, I loved this audiobook and highly recommend both Bossy Hero and the series as a whole!

Oh my gosh…Boss & Maddie’s story was so highly anticipated but also such a huge surprise to me. I loved how we got to see their relationship develop and how Alan just nurtured her for years as a close friend. He was exactly what she needed at every point in her adult life.
Seeing them from the day they met all the way to the day that it was finally “someday”, it made their happily ever after so much more. I fell head over heels in love with Big Al in a way that I never expected. And Maddie, gosh…that woman is strength personified. I might be harboring a mild crush on a mid 50s fictional woman.
I really appreciated the many facets & very real life situations represented. The way that no bars were held & the bitter truth with it came to abuse within relationships was so well done. And the way that Maddie overcame so so much, yet was still able to have such deep & meaningful relationships with Leo, Sammy, & Drew warmed my heart. She has so much love to give & becoming the mother figure of Redleg was her destiny…she just needed the perfect partner, like Alan, with his full care & support to find her potential. And though he was paramount in her finding stability with a man, I absolutely loved how she healed herself first.
Ugh…I couldn’t go on forever about everything I loved about this book & this whole series, really. I loved how we saw the other side of many of the situations we’ve encountered so far in other books, but seeing all the trials & tribulations resolved just brought this Redleg family closer to my heart.
I’m definitely going to need cameos of these characters in all future books, Jackie!!

Audiobook Review:
Jackie has a knack for finding the absolute perfect narrators for her characters. Aiden Snow as Big Al was so perfectly cast. He has that timber in his voice of authority, but also so much love & care for his employees. As for Maddie…I feel like Emma Wilder was made for that role. She has the motherly voice that is soothing & loving, but also that lilt that makes a man like Alan Lancaster absolutely smitten.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars, you bet I would. Right from the start of book one in the series, Ms Walker has had my head spinning, my heart breaking, my stomach in knots but by the end of each book, my heart feels full of love. The men in this series are tough, protective, caring and wear their hearts on their sleeves, get between them and the one they love and look out. Bossy Hero is the last book in the series, unfortunately. However, I'm sure Ms. Walker's readers just might try and beg and/or bribe her for more.
Bossy Hero gives us Big Al's, Alan's, the owner of Redleg Security, story and the woman that he fell in love with sixteen years ago, Maddie. Now I know that this book could be read as a standalone, but I feel the previous books should be read to get a backstory of the people who work for him and their partners. At the turn of the pages, I was enthralled with the storyline and the characters, both the main and the secondary. Ms. Walker does dive into sensitive topics such as spousal and child abuse, as well as trafficking. She took great care when talking about the aftereffects of them and how people deal with the situations.
Big Al fell hard and fast when he met the mother of one of the soldiers in his platoon. Maddie and Big Al had a connection and kept in touch but things and life got in the way. Years later, the woman that he fell for was back in his life and he was not going to let her go. Even though Maddie went through hell, she ended up stronger and a woman who knew she had to find love in herself before she could share her heart with anyone else. The chemistry that they shared was that of two people who were soulmates. Yes, there were times I was frustrated with the way she pushed him away but towards the end, the truth of why was revealed and I just wanted to give her a big hug.
There are so many feelings running through me right now. Happy that we got Big Al's story and the HEA that he deserved but also very sad that this is the end of a sensational series that will forever live with me.

Story and Writing ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Narration ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bravo, Jackie Walker!! Bossy Hero is everything I’ve been waiting for – Big Al (Alan) and Maddie finally find the love and peace of mind they both deserve, and Redleg finally takes down the bratva and the leader Lenkov.

Alan has been waiting for Maddie since the day he met her, showing love, patience, and understanding. Maddie has been beaten down her whole life and doesn’t trust herself enough to let herself love him in return. He slowly nurtures and helps her see the strength she has inside, so she sees her own worth and can start to love herself. There were times in the story where I wanted to yell at Maddie, but the next page, I was crying with her. This is such a beautiful, emotional journey for both Maddie and Alan.

There is plenty of suspense, danger, and intrigue in this story as Redleg slowly brings down the bratva and ends all their illegal activities. There were twists and turns I wasn’t expecting but the ending was well worth it!

I normally listen to the audiobook after I read the book, but this time I listened and read at the same time. Jackie Walker has the ability to cast the perfect narrators for a role, and Aiden Snow and Emma Wilder are perfect as Big Al and Maddie. Aiden Snow has a low timbre to his voice that had me picturing him as Boss and wanting to listen to his voice all day, every day! Emma Wilder was Maddie. She had the compassionate, passionate, understanding voice of the woman who learned to love herself as much as she loved others.

If you haven’t read the whole Redleg series yet, I recommend you read it before Bossy Hero so you can fully understand how Boss and Maddie got to where they are. Whether you read or listen to Bossy Hero, add it to your TBR! You’re going to love them all!

My emotions are split – I was so excited for Big Al and Maddie to finally have their story told, but my heart is also broken that we have come to the final chapter in the amazing Redleg Security Series!!

Glimpses and hints of Big Al and Maddie’s relationship have been sprinkled throughout the first seven books of the series, but Bossy Hero provides us with the details, and I’m here for it.

It is fitting that they found each other and stayed connected through their “children”. Throughout the series, Big Al and Maddie have acted as the unofficial parents of the Redleg found family. Maddie, the Mom who is there to offer a kind word and a shoulder to cry on, whereas Big Al is the stoic Dad who loves his children but is stern and hides his emotions.

From their initial meeting under less-than-ideal circumstances, Big Al was hooked. From this point forward Alan and Maddie built a foundation of friendship, flirting, and unwavering support.
It is impossible not to fall in love with Alan with his unwavering dedication and patience in allowing Maddie to work through her issues and awaiting their “someday”. In addition, even while dealing with her own demons Maddie does her best to help Alan work on his relationships with his daughter and his found family.

I truly appreciated the beautiful way in which the author portrayed that love can happen at any stage of life.

The author does a tremendous job of tying up loose ends and bringing the story to its heartwarming conclusion.

I can’t recommend this book or all the previous books in the series highly enough. Each book delivers amazing characters with various flaws, intriguing stories, wrapped within a mystery.

Book 8 of the Redleg Security Series, the finale, OMG!!!

A perfect name for the last book since the story is about the boss of Redleg. We hoped that Jackie would give us Big Al’s story and dang, did she!!!

Tropes:
• He falls first
• Found family
• Second chance
• Later in life
• Friends to lovers

We have watched throughout the series the special friendship that Maddie and Big Al shared. We saw them fight their attraction for one another because of various obstacles that came their way, they found themselves forming a strong foundation of a very special relationship.

Big Al has a heart of gold and I really think he fell in love with Maddie the first time he met her but she wasn’t ready. After the army, Big Al started Redleg but never gave up hope on Maddie.

Maddie had to get out but could she find the strength and courage to leave? Knowing she has no choice, she does.

Seeing how Big Al supports Maddie and gives her the strength she needs to not only believe in herself but him as well, shows just how much Big Al cares for her. He never gave up on Maddie and with him by her side, she can get back up and have the kind of relationship that she deserves.

Aiden Snow as Big Al, oh that was perfect! Aiden has the voice that can give you everything emotion and vibe that you would want to hear. It was great! Emma Wilder, she has the perfect tone to be Maddie. Emma gives us every aspect that Maddie gives throughout the book. This is one of the best duet I have listened to as they give us the characters emotions and you can feel everything they portray in their words!

Bittersweet ending as the series is complete but we all know Jackie and she won’t leave us hanging for long on what will be coming next!

This series is incredible, and this was the perfect way to wrap it all up with a pretty bow and finish off the series.

Absolutely adored every bit of this!

I wouldn’t recommend reading this one as a standalone, I mean you CAN, but I wouldn’t… It will spoil most of the prior books for you and may leave you a little confused, and you won’t have all the emotional connections to the side characters. At a minimum, I would read Rival Hero first (and Tomer’s spin-off trilogy if you can!) as this picks up where Rival Hero leaves off. In fact, Rival Hero was the only book in the series I had read before going into this one.

I loved this book, being able to see this relationship truly blossom was amazing. It is the slowest of slowburns and it makes SENSE to be that slow. It felt right, and felt special. The story starts almost like a prequel, where Al and the guys were still Rangers and Redleg hadn’t yet been “born” and then follows Al’s and Maddie’s relationship through the years in between all the events of the series - along with plenty of drama of their own!

It was a beautiful way to wrap up the series - and now I really want to go back to the beginning and read Bossy Hero’s chapters in between each of the books to read the timeline!

Woow this great series is coming to an end! And what an end it was! The journey was just perfect!

Bossy Hero tells the story of Big Al (or Alan) and Maddie. I have been looking forward to their love story since it was teased some books back. And Jackie Walker did not disappoint in telling their story.

I laughed so hard, but I also cried at times because this book gave everything; heart and soul mixed in with banter and steam. My favourite part about it (well about the series in general is the found/chosen family of Redleg. I really loved seeing Alan create this loving and beautiful family. And he was such an amazing leader. As for the romance, this also did not disappoint. Alan was so patient with Maddie, he was protective, caring …giving everything Maddie needed at each given moment. It was also so lovely to see Maddie grow from the broken young woman she was from all she had experienced in the past, all the way to the strong woman she becomes. Jackie Walker handles all the difficult topics addressed in this book with such care.

If you are looking for a romantic suspense story full of twists, steam, but also heart… look no further because this series is definitely worth your time.

Aiden Snow and Emma Wilder were just brilliant in bringing Big Al and Maddie’s story to life. With their talented voices, they delivered the perfect performance and portrayal of Al’s and Maddie’s journey to finding love. The characters’ personalities and all the emotions they went through were all depicted so wonderfully. I loved the audiobook!

Thanks to the author, Jackie Walker, for letting me be on her audio arc team and providing me with a review copy of this book. All opinions provided in this review are entirely my own.

I cannot believe that this is the last book in the Red Leg series,so listening to this story was so bitter sweet.,I have been eagerly awaiting this book and
My Heart definately went through the gauntlet as this romance played out.
Jackie Walker did not disappoint with Maddie and Big Al/Alan/Boss...Yes the main man in the Red Leg security gets his HEA,just like all the other guys who work for him.
Narrated by Aiden Snow and Emma Wilder who gave us an Excellent performance and giving these characters so much personality.
They made this story come alive and gave the story a whole new experience and I easily got lost listening to their voices.
They were an ideal choice for Al and Maddie and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them.
Alan and Maddie's romance is over 10 years in the making, they slowly fall in love over this period of time. They have always been Hugely attracted to one another but the timing was never right until now.
Being a mature couple they both have much more life experience and have been through so much...both with painful pasts they are made for eachother,to help one another heal the scars of the past...and make a future together.
Their journey is emotional, steamy, funny and sweet..Jackie Walkers writing is amazing and addictive and I love the humour she inserts into all her stories,Then she sucker punches you with the emotion.
Jackie has delivered the Perfect Romance and the perfect conclusion to an incredible series.
I loved it so much.
A must read for all fans of romance.

What an ending! I haven't read the all the books in this series yet but I will definitely be going back to fill in the gaps as this found family series has my heart. After seeing glimpses of their relationship in the earlier books, in Bossy Hero, we see how Big Al and Maddie met and why their HEA very much took the long way round. There was so much to love about this book, I was kicking my feet at the emails in chapter three, laughing at a crocheted Sawyer and all the banter between the Redleg gang (including Sammy the comedy legend), and then sobbing towards the end. I love Big Al and he just pushed Leo out of the way as my favourite Redleg MMC. He is such a wonderful character with an amazing heart as he waited for Maddie to choose him. Both he and Maddie had work to do before they could be together but it is so worth it; Maddie has been through so much and she will break your heart.

Although the romance takes centre stage, there is still plenty of action and the book ties up the overarching Lenkov narrative from the previous stories with the stakes adding to the suspense. And that epilogue! It was already perfect, but that tag on at the end? I cannot wait to see where that is going!

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read

Bossy Hero
Redleg Security #8
By Jackie Walker
Narrated by Aiden Snow, Emma Wilder

Another Redleg Security, and another I could not put down until the end. There is something about history of couples that draws me in, and this book did just that. From the start, Big Al and Maddie were attracted to each other, but obstacles kept them apart. The thought of her going back to her abusive husband is unthinkable, but as years go by and only a deep friendship is allowed to grow. Being Leo's mother doesn't seem to be the problem, but until you walk in her shoes, things would never be clear. Add on the danger that is coming, Jackie Walker winds through twists and turns I didn't see coming. This is a fabulous listen, with relevant issues, passion, danger, humor and so much more. It's hours of true entertainment.

Walker picks her narrators with care and the choice of this team could not have been better. Aiden Snow is Big Al. He is broody, loves his career but loves Maddie more. Snow's voice acclimates to each part of him. Wilder is Maddie, with her confusion, fear, frustration and love. There is no feeling that she does not go through and Wilder brings her through. This is a spectacular listen and I loved it!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Star read! 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Spice rating!

This is the final book in the amazing redleg series and follows the highly anticipated Big Al and Maddie's journey! 🤍

Well f**k, I have never been more excited to start a book and so sad to see it end! It was completely and utterly perfect 💙

Did I ride a rollercoaster of emotions? Absolutely! Every single emotion you can think of! Frustration, panic, joy, happiness, sadness and so many more. The love and steadfastness Big Al has for Maddie shines through the whole entire book and the journey of Maddie's self love was written perfectly.

Fave quote:

“She’s a grizzly, sweetie. A mama bear. Indomitable spirit. Strength and resilience. Loyal to her marrow.” I force down a jagged swallow. “Sadly, even bears are vulnerable to pain and fear. Since the night I met her, I’ve been trying to coax out her inner spirit, ensuring she feels secure enough to be her true self. I have no plans to stop doing that. Ever.”

And because it made me laugh like I imagine Big Al does:

“Last night, there was a party in the guest room. And everybody came.”

This is the perfect ending to an amazing series . . . Cannot wait for the second gen series. Thank you Jackie for allowing me to be part of this 🩵

What a way to close a series!  Bossy Hero, the story of Big Al and Maddie, is truly a saga.  With a sweeping timeline that connects the events of every Redleg Security book (and its backstory) together, you will delight in finally understanding how Redleg Security is not just a business or a loyal group of Veterans but a family.

Boss and Maddie appear in every single Redleg novel. Jackie Walker masterfully weaves their "side story" through the series in a way that fully connects the "pre-Redleg" days and many characters' backstories with the fierce sense of protection that is the core of the Redleg family. When Boss and Maddie take center stage, all of these little moments become the heart of Redleg.

To see their journey come to a conclusion (although I don't feel like it's an ending at all) with plenty of heat, heart, love, patience, and healing had me feeling all the feels.

Go visit with Boss and Maddie… but first, make sure you read all of the other Redleg novels.  This finale concludes the connecting story arc of the entire series, and while you might be able to put all the pieces together, I think you will enjoy the journey more if you begin at the beginning.

Until we meet again, Redleg. I hope we get a second generation.

This was such a good wrap-up of this series! We're teased relentlessly about these two being together from pretty much the beginning, so to finally see their story? Ecstatic!

There are so many things that I didn't expect with these two. I didn't expect Alan to be such a teddy bear for Madeline, but oof. It was so necessary and so, so perfect for the full storyline and what she needed to heal. And when he gives you know who the hit he's definitely earned? 🤌 Perfection. I honestly wish it had been more, but I'll take it 🤣 And Maddie. It takes her a while to grow into her strength, but when she does, it's so worth the wait.

And that's before even taking into consideration the whole story that carries across all these books as they try to take down their enemies. The twists. The way you'll think it's over and then BAM! Something else. It makes that final stand all the sweeter. The HEA of this couple and all the characters in this series as the full story comes to a close is so bittersweet.

I've come to love these characters. How laugh out loud funny they are, how easy to relate to they are, how fleshed out and real they feel. Jackie Walker did a fantastic job crafting a series that will stick in your brain for a long time to come. It's one of those series that, if you lost your memory, you'd pick them up and read them again just to experience it for the "first time" again.

I can't suggest this whole series enough. Go read them!

Bossy Hero - Red Leg Security Book . Maddie and Alan !! The perfect couple to end what has become one of my absolute favorite series !! Definitely feeling sad right now !! but I know Jackie has something just as fantastic planned for us next !! OMG !!! The way these two hooked me so completely , the the way their story pulled at all my heartstrings and had me laughing out loud , smiling like crazy even sobbing like a baby , yelling outta pure frustration and kept me cheering so freaking hard . Well I honestly do not think there really are any perfect words to express how in love with this story I fell. The Danger , the intrigue and the suspense , the love , the passion, the secrets and revelations, the drama , the obstacles, the humor angst and witty banter . All the different layers each character has and the complexities to their relationships and in the storyline . Maddie and Alan’s story really was so very beautiful and so very emotional. You should definitely keep a box of Kleenex close by and your going to want to make sure you have nothing planned because once you start well to say it’s pretty much impossible to stop would be 100% accurate.

This book and every book in this series deserves more than 5 stars.
I don't think I've ever read a series where each book gets better with the edition of another book. But this series does, each joke gets a little funnier, each character a little more endearing, each problem they face a little more personal.
The author becomes someone you feel you need to know. Why, because you clearly didn't ask, well because she pours herself into these characters. I'm not saying these are her life traumas because I'm not privy to that information but I can tell you she puts her emotions in all of them, good, bad and ugly.
🎧Not only that But Aiden Snow who voiced Big Al on audio was amazing I felt he really embodied Alan with his gravely voice and direct edge and delivery.
Emma Walker like wise brought al of Maddie's emotions to life. She gave them a voice, one that they all deserved no matter what state of mind she was in.
Alan and Maddie's story has been sixteen years in the making. This later in life romance has so many facets to it, that although sixteen years sounds like a long time for everything the both need to go through it moves awfully quickly.
You can expect plenty of action, I mean Redleg is a security company. There will be tons of found family some will be blood and some will be chosen. There will be secrets to uncover, trauma to face, impressions that need some work, jokes and lots of laughs. I really can't recommend this series enough I've got my husband on book two as I type. l have voluntarily left this review.

I kept putting off reading this book, thinking most of it would be a recap, like parts of other books have been in this series. Luckily, it was mostly not like that. I loved getting to see how they met and how they got to know each other before they were actually together, too.

Once we caught up to the "present" though, things just felt like they took wayyy too long. There were so many things that seemed to be repeated over and over, and they just didn't get anywhere with Lenkov, either. It just felt like a long, stretched out period of time that just didn't need to happen. I got bored on multiple occasions.

Well, you can tell the author doesn't crochet or knit. She mentioned Maddie setting aside her crochet needles. Knitting uses needles, crochet uses hooks. Then to make a joke about him calling it knitting... um, it IS knitting!

I am intrigued by the little stinger at the end, leading into the spinoff, but I'm not sure if I will want to read it when it finally comes out. If I come across it in the wild, maybe.
Overall, I did enjoy this series for the most part. There just seemed to be a lot happening in this one, the last book.

GAH!! The emotions in this one!! I am warning you right now, get ready... have your snacks, and a drink by you, and an open schedule, because you are not going to want to leave these pages. There are not enough stars...

I am going to believe that you have consumed this series (like I have), in order, and are more than ready for Maddie and Big Al's HEA. They definitely get one, but it took forever, right?!
The lingering storyline dangers (and clues to the big picture) that have plagued Redleg and all the characters we love all series long are finally pulling together, and allowing the team to focus their energies in one place - or I should say - on one target.

My heart was all over the place on this roller coaster ride of happiness, frustration, sorrow, anguish, and panic! But that is to be expected when you begin a book by this incredibly talented author. Her words paint a picture of these characters and their lives so clearly that it is hard not to scream, cry, or laugh along with the scenes you read, or become swept away in their passion and love for one another. Ooh, so steamy!!
I was so very frustrated with Maddie, for most of this read, and it was tough! My heart hurt for Big Al, so many times!! The action, intrigue, betrayals, dangers, and military skills portrayed in this one kept me on the edge of my seat, anxious to piece the clues together alongside Tomer, Mia, and Klein, in the Lair.

Maddie and Alan have found their HEA - finally - and I loved it! The connection between these two has been there throughout this series, and it's a perfect way to follow Tomer and Lettie's trilogy.
I strongly recommend following the author's reading order, to ensure your best experience. While I am terribly sad to be done with these characters (for now), they hold a special place in my heart, and I will be binge-reading this series in the near future. I recommend buying this series, if you don't already own it, and doing the same. Worth your time, IMO.

Obviously, I am a big fan of this series and this author's works. I was fortunate to have received and ARC of this one (thank you), and happily leave my review.

Like all Jackie Walker books, Bossy Hero brings heart AND spicy slow burn heat along with plenty of laughs. I think of all the Redleg Security books, this one was THE best! When reading the other standalone books and seeing Al and Maddie interact, you knew there was something more and this book dives into that and how their relationship goes much deeper than their children knew/realized. You see Al change from the big, strong, mission-focused guy to the protecting, lover with a soft heart for "his woman." Maddie goes from a scared, battered woman (occurs off page) to a strong, fierce, brave woman that is ready to wholly love again. There are plenty of laughs and visits from our beloved Redleg Security family and some definite twists and turns in the story! I saw it with every story Jackie writes but the spicy heat, the interactions, the story line keep getting better and better. You do NOT want to skip this story!

5⭐️ *Arc Review*

An absolute gem! The perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and emotional moments makes it a captivating read. The characters are well-developed, and the storyline keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters in Bossy Hero are incredibly relatable and well-crafted, each with their own unique backstories and motivations. The chemistry between the main characters are palpable, making their journey together all the more enjoyable. The emotional arcs of the characters resonate deeply, allowing readers to connect with their struggles and triumphs. Moments of vulnerability are beautifully portrayed, adding layers to the overall experience. The storyline is filled with unexpected twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. Jackie masterfully weaves together romance and suspense, creating a narrative that is both thrilling and heartwarming. Her writing is engaging and fluid, making it easy to immerse yourself in the world she has created. The dialogue is sharp and witty, providing both humor and tension throughout the book. I couldn't put it down and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a thrilling romantic suspense! Read the whole series because it is absolutely worth it. I wholeheartedly give it all the stars and can't wait to see what Jackie has in store for us next!

Story 5 stars
Audio 5 stars

Big Al and Maddie’s story is wonderful. The perfect end (for now?) to the Redleg series. It’s full of hurt/comfort, love, suspense, old friends, and all the spice you could hope for. This book spans all the years they’ve known each other and the ups and downs for each of them. This book shows the epic love Big Al has for Maddie and her healing journey to become the person she needs to be to accept his love. This book also covers Big Al’s relationship with his kids, blood or not, and how he works to make those relationships better. This book is epic.

I love the audio! Aiden Snow and Emma Wilder knocked it out of the park. They portrayed all the emotions big and small wonderfully, and they brought life and depth to the characters. They are the perfect voices for Big Al and Maddie. I can not recommend the audio book enough.

The story we've all been waiting for. If you've read the other books in the Redleg Security series you know this has a been a long tease. (well played Ms. Walker) If you are just starting Redleg, there's enough backstory you'll be okay. Walker has again created characters that I want as friends. Bossy Hero spends a lot of time in flashback, and its totally worth the trip. This book had me snort laughing and swooning, with many emotions in between. Her struggles parenting her adult children, and insecurities about herself. Her "mom-ing" of the whole Redleg crew warms the heart. As a reader who is closer to Maggie's age, it was very relatable. Big Al is the ultimate silver fox. He is stalwart, grumpy and caring. This couple is infinitely loveable and the story is completely absorbing. Who says hot, steamy, enduring love is only for the young!

MY REVIEW

This was the conclusion to this series that nobody was truly ready for. This book pulled all of it together, building up through each preceding book.
Jackie did an excellent job pulling out all the emotions from me. The plot is engaging, thorough, and leaves no questions after it’s done. This series was crafted and tied up beautifully.
This book was packed with action, drama, angst, and an MMC with a mouth you WILL drool over. On the floor, a straight-up puddle.
The Redleg family has taken readers on a gripping ride, with a conclusion that will leave readers satisfied, breathless, and a little sad to close the door for now. I adore how Jackie always includes the realness of life in her books, while always leaving us some chuckling moments. A fantastic series, and an even sweeter and perfect couple to tie it up.
I can’t wait to see what is next!
