Sid Mohasseb is a serial entrepreneur, investor, university professor and business thought leader.
At 21, Sid started and later sold his first company. At 25, he taught comparative Eastern and Western philosophy. At 27, he became the youngest partner in the history of The SGS Consulting Group. ”Working with great leaders as a consultant, I learned that you win people, markets and customers with your heart, your principles and your ability to materialize a vision. You lose them with your inflated ego, inflexibility and insensitivity.”
Since then, Sid has founded and led several early-stage and hyper-growth companies from inception to acquisition. He has also led company turnarounds — from near bankruptcy to profitability and has faced, accepted, and overcome his share of failures in ideas and ventures.
Sid has served on the boards of over a dozen profit and non-profit companies — as observer, as director, and as chairman. He has logged thousands of hours developing strategies for various enterprises and working with board members. “Business wars are won on the battle ground, in the market place, a common problem is that board rooms are disconnected from the foxholes and strategies are often not responsive to the constantly changing competitive realities”
Sid has mentored dozens of entrepreneurs, met with hundreds of start-up companies, and reviewed countless business plans, “Over the past 30 years, I have never seen a business plan that did not have to change over and over before leading to a win.” He has taught Strategy Management, Corporate Finance, Venture Capital, negotiation and Data Analytics to MBAs at University of Southern California (USC), Chapman University, and University of California in Irvine (UCI).
As an adjunct professor, a venture capitalist, a few times over corporate CEO, former Strategic Innovation lead in Strategy for KPMG, a Harvard trained negotiator, a veteran board member and a featured TED Speaker, Sid’s real expertise is in connecting theory and reality and helping people see the bend in the road ahead.

‘Your thirst for wisdom activates your mindfulness’
Author Sid Mohasseb is a successful entrepreneur, having arrived at his status through a life of caring and learning and growing. Now he offers his radiant philosophy to not only striving entrepreneurs, but also to all of us, so inspiring and elevating is his presentation in this invaluable book.
There are many books written by excellent authors who share their guidance in taking steps to climb the ladder of success: many of those coaches provide valid information on the ‘how to’ of succeeding in business. What is so unique, and immensely treasureable about YOU ARE NOT THEM: The Authentic Entrepreneur’s Way, is the author’s way of internalizing the concepts of succeeding, drawing on mindfulness and the benefits of tapping into inherent qualities to allow them to become manifest.
As an invitation to join Sid Mohasseb in this artful plan of utilizing our ‘inner wealth’ of resources, the following excerpt is offered: ‘By nature, you are an entrepreneur and a sculptor. By choice, an authentic original, a pilot, an ocean, and a dancer. You are an artist who masterfully colors their entrepreneurial talent. Your choices lay the stones of your path to tomorrow. They also shape the consequences and outcomes. Choose to be a purposeful sculptor. Realize that the boxes that limit your thoughts and actions are a figment of your imagination; a side effect of your inability to effectively tap into your inherent talents. To unleash the true power of your entrepreneurial genius, rise up. Unlearn the status quo and be an unwritten letter. A blank canvas to paint on; unformed clay ready to be shaped into a masterpiece. Position yourself to realize your stroke of genius: the sculpture of you. The spirit of entrepreneurship is lifeforce of the purposeful sculptor. Embrace the spirit: hunt for knowledge in order to inspire actions for likely better, but uncertain, results. Acknowledge where you are positioned on the entrepreneurial spectrum; color your talents; seek to be awakened and aspire to become a practitioner and a forever apprentice. No matter where you start, you are always in transition – always in pursuit…’
The energy that reading this book provides will surely aid the entrepreneur wondering why there is no movement to a career. But important as that gift is to business minds, it is equally applicable to everyone – a powerful message for finding the true artist of our lives from within. Very highly recommended.
This book takes a different approach to being an entrepreneur. Instead of being a How-To book, this book helps the reader to look inside themselves, to see what sort of entrepreneur they will be.
It's quite normal, and reasonable, to be inspired by the story of Steve Jobs or Richard Branson. Just don't try to imitate them, or be like them. Their story is not, and should not be, your story. You need to figure out your own Personal Entrepreneurial Philosophy, or PEP.
According to the author, it's also normal to want to reduce risk as much as possible. Totally eliminating risk is not possible; risk is part of what makes us human. We would turn into a race of people who spend all day, every day, in bed. There is no "best" time to become an entrepreneur, there is only Now.
Do you want to have an active role in your life, making things happen, like a pilot? Do you want to have a passive role in your life, letting good and bad things happen, like a passenger? The early days of a business can be like being a fighter pilot, with risk coming at you from all sides. If your business becomes established, and runs on its own momentum, you suddenly become a commercial pilot. Your job is to keep things running smoothly.
The entire world of "business," including suppliers, customers and market conditions, can be likened to an ocean. Can you adjust accordingly, and quickly, when an underground mountain is suddenly right in front of you? Will you manage to hit an iceberg, and sink, like the Titanic?
This is a very interesting book. It will help the reader see just what sort of entrepreneur they will be (there is no Way to do it that works for everyone). Reading this book is a really good idea.
Sid Mohasseb has a knack for composition that can elaborately explain what you're looking for without even realizing that you're looking for it. Entrepreneurship has been around for ages, yet some enthusiastic business prospects go into it blindly without the precise information to get them started in the direction for success. This guide includes data that can help those who have already begun their entrepreneurship and are looking for some advice on hurdles they face, as well as those who are just starting and looking for a roadmap that will get them started on a successful path. With a subject such as this, it's important for those prospects to never have the mindset that failure will not happen because inevitably it will at some point or another and or one situation another. I liked that this author pointed out the importance of failure and how it will help business prospects to become wiser and overall have the ability to see more success in the end based on what they have learned. Highly recommended for anyone who is beginning their journey in business ownership.
One major problem any entrepreneur must overcome is how to set themselves apart from every other marketer/business out there. There may be plenty of other in your market, but what will make YOU stand out and become more successful than your competitors? The author of this book will give you a guide on how to develop your individuality and uniqueness and then use it to set yourself apart. He also explores traditional and less traditional ways entrepreneurs go about setting up a new venture. Need to revamp the communications or even your workflow efficiency? You will find all the tools you need for that right here. I am always skeptical about a books claims when I pick them up, but I found some very sound advice in this one. Current entrepreneurs will find new mindsets that will challenge the status quo, and brand-new entrepreneurs will find a roadmap on how to get started. I liked the ease of reading the book and think it can provide many with good information.
You Are Not Them: The Authentic Entrepreneur's Way is a powerful read that allows the reader nuggets of gold that makes up Sid Mohasseb. I don't think one book could sum up the wealth of information the author can give, but I do know when you finish this book you will have a greater confidence in yourself and the contribution you can make in the world that no one else can.
I finished You Are Not Them: The Authentic Entrepreneur's Way with a greater love for what I want to accomplish with my life. Sid Mohasseb has a way with words that makes you feel as if you can get the skills, tools, and power to complete anything. I don't have to be the one of the "greats", because I am great. I love the statement; "Change is NOT your enemy, It is the friend that keeps you alive". I want my dreams to live, I strive for change, because as we know if you stop changing or growing you will die and so will your dreams.
A concise and useful reading. The title of this reading has a special power. “You are not them: The Authentic Entrepreneur´s Way” is a useful and self-discovery guide written by Sid Mohasseb. Throughout the reading, I could see the importance of being “authentic” in business and what makes me a “Powerful” person. The author shares his vast knowledge and his own experience about the field. What I liked the most about this reading is that the author included thoughtful quotes that helped me understand his ideas. For instance, the concept of “Failure” is very important and here he states the reason why it is necessary to sometimes fail in this field to become wiser and successful in the end. All in all, I found it very complete, concise and helpful. Everything is well-explained and backed up with experience. It is a must-read!
I have never been disappointed by any of Sid Mohasseb’s books. They are always chock full of great stories and life changing information or guidance. One thing I like about the way he writes is that he is always upfront and honest about what is going on in his life even the not-too-pretty or best parts of it. His writing style is lively and entertaining, leaving a great message. In this book full of very useful information, the author gives the reader excellent pieces of advice and tips to become a brilliant entrepreneur. I found the book really interesting and approachable since it contains excellent data to back it up. The writing is clear, clever, concise and focused on essential aspects which make it more than interesting. I highly recommend the read since it gave me a new perspective!
As it is explained in the foreword, this is not a “how-to” book and that set the basis for what I encountered among its pages. “You are not them: the authentic entrepreneur’s way” written by Sid Mohasseb is an inspiring book. Employing personal experience, the author explains that achieving success as an entrepreneur depends on internal characteristic and not external factors. From this basic concept, he helps develop a personal philosophy on the subject and analyse and understand our flaws and strong points to make our careers grow. One of the things that I like the most about this book is that it is quite interactive and it motivates the reader to use it as inspiration and to work in their own success.
I would recommend this book to every entrepreneur, without any distinction of their past experience. I think that this book has a lot of innovative ideas and information about early business that I could not find in other books. As soon as I started to read it I was trapped into the plot. The wise phrases that it contains along the narration are stunning, and that was what I liked the most. The author of this book, Sib Mohassed, shares stories and visions to inspire every entrepreneur and motivates them to find their particular value and talent. Also, he provides useful tools and information to achieve the established goals in entrepreneurships. However, the author advises that it does not pretend to be a “how-to” book.
Many of these Entrepreneurs' Books are focused in advice on how to start a business or how to make it grow. But “You Are Not Them” by author Sid Mohasseb is about how to be an entrepreneur as an interactive lifestyle (rather than a final destination).
In that sense, and from my point of view, the more valuable aspect of this reading is that it highlights the individuality of the business person. It delves with the idea that, in order to be successful, the entrepreneurial philosophy should be based on the personality of the brand creators/owners. Their inner wealth of prosperity, talent and wisdom, their values and their own choices will be the key to success.
I really enjoyed the perspective the author had in his approach to writing this “Authentic Entrepreneur's Way” book.
You Are Not Them is an encouraging, practical and thought provoking book written by the talented Sid Mohasseb. As an inspiring educator and experienced entrepreneur, he has combined all his knowledge in this book which is full of useful pieces of advice to be a better entrepreneur. I really took advantage of every tip he offers as they are down to earth and easy to follow. Mohasseb has included some quotes that are really positive and I love reading one or two every morning before I start my working day. One of my favourite phrases is ‘every end is a new beginning’. He is really inspiring and his ideas are expressed in a direct way and I felt that he was talking to me. This book is a must in every entrepreneur's library.
I think that being an entrepreneur is a great adventure but definitely not an easy task, we struggle to take steps that would lead us to the next level and once we get to that desired level, the struggle to survive also starts. The idea of this book is teaching us that entrepreneurship is an iterative lifestyle rather than a final destination. Relevant and catching, the title reflects what the book is about, and called my attention immediately. The author uses simple vocabulary and gives straight forward explanations, not to mention the fact that he speaks from his own experience. I found this book realistic, practical and engaging as it offers great tools to step out of our comfort zone and teaches us not be afraid of taking risks. I highly recommend it!
You Are Not Them! by Sid Mohasseb is a book that sees entrepreneurship from another perspective. The main idea here is that we are already good entrepreneurs but we should learn and do our best to become a great one or the greatest of all! The author establishes a parallelism between the way a sculptor perceives his works of art and the progress to make them and the way entrepreneurs should work to be even more successful. The narrative gives plenty of pieces of advice in the form of the second person, what I found really interesting since I felt I have almost been spoken to by the author. This is a wonderful book that helps succeed in life and, eventually, climb up ladders.
Sid Mohassen is the author of this memorable book titled “You Are Not Them”. The author wrote these pages to help out those entrepreneurs that are at sixes and sevens and do not know what else to do to polish up their job positions.
Being part of the market world is not easy - there is a lot of competition and everyone wants to go up the ladder. There is too much information and material to study, too. However, Mohassen is clear and to the point. The ideas he presents are not difficult to develop but are ground changing. For this reason, I believe that this book might help those in the business.
Being an entrepreneur is not an easy task. Many people want to undertake and do not know where or how to start. “You Are Not Them: The Authentic Entrepreneur's Way” gave me an overview of the business world and how to become a better entrepreneur. Author S. Mohasseb encourages us to decide what we want to do and what we want for the future, it also guides us to look for our strengths and weaknesses. I really enjoyed this book as I learned a lot while reading it. This book helped me realize certain things that I took for granted. Also, I liked that it was a simple and quick read. I certainly recommend it.
As a very motivated entrepreneur, I’m always reading and searching ways to improve my business and achieve my goals. What I like the most about “You Are Not Them” was the fact that the author focuses completely on the entrepreneur, on ourselves. We have the power and the control to go further every time. Our uniqueness is what is going to take us to the place we want to be.
I like that author Sid Mohasseb also included some short stories and additional information to help us understand certain concepts.
All in all, I think this read helped me with my confidence and that translated to my capabilities on running my business.
“You are not them: the authentic entrepreneur’s way” written by Sid Mohassseb is a very interesting book that I read almost non-stop. The author's approach to the topic is very good and clear and also he shows it as a lifestyle, not just to fulfill a goal. I found this to be very thought provoking. In some less than two hundred pages, the author manages to develop a new view towards entrepreneurship. I have certainly learnt a great deal of things by reading this book, and this is one of the reasons why I will really recommend reading it.
