RFirst, I want to thank Lindsay Gibson and Harpeth Road Press for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
Lindsay Gibson’s Fly Away Summer is a beautifully written and heartfelt story that will make you want to hug your loved ones a little tighter. For me it was an emotional read and needed a few tissues.
I have to commend Kristen Ingebretson for her cover design and Shutterstock as well for the cover images. Out of all the covers that Harpeth Road Press has created over the years this is my favorite one to date. It is such a breathtaking cover and represents the book so well.
Lindsay does an amazing job jumping right into the storyline! What is even better is she is incredible with expressing all of Lana’s emotions and there were a lot of them to express! My heart went out to her for all that she was going through!
I absolutely loved the picturesque setting of Boston and Cape Cod, the clambakes, seafood, and the bakery goodies in Fly Away Summer! Having been there now I am craving some Clam Chowder!
Lindsay addresses Dementia and the effects of mental decline and how it affects the person and family. That being said I loved hearing the stories he did share with Lana. They brought a smile to my face.
I was extremely surprised and had a big grin on my face to see who Lana’s Sues Chef was. Her name was Heidi. Ironically there was another character in the book with my last name (but a very few know my real last name).
Heidi is persistent even with everything going on in Lana’s life she is still insistent she fixes her up with this one guy!
This book is about family past and present and grieving how the relationships have changed.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review thanks to Harpeth Road Press.

My Opinion
Last year I was lucky enough to read Lindsay Gibson's first novel published by Harpeth Road, when I saw that there was going to be a new release I jumped at the opportunity to get an advanced copy. Lindsay has written a delightful book with so much feeling. This was a stunning book that is going to make for a lovely beach read.
Lana has suffered a lot of loss in her life and ultimately I think that has made her a great character, she knows what she wants and is determined to do what it takes. A fabulous read.
Chef Lana Kelly just completed culinary school and turned her late father’s old fish market into a very successful restaurant. Her family lost their Cape Cod inn and it was always her dream to expand the inn and keep it in the family. Finally, the inn goes up for sale and Lana immediately puts in an offer. But Hunter Graham, a property developer in New York City out bids her and wants to make it into an event venue. She is struggling to keep her restaurant going, and as the inn slowly slips through her fingers, so do the summer days and her hopes and dreams.
Fly Away Summer written by author Lindsay Gibson is an absolutely lovely delightful story. I was drawn into this story by not only the beautiful cover but the turn of every page kept my attention. I was cheering for Lana as she kept moving forward, no matter the setbacks. Gibson is amazing at describing Cape Cod with its cool summer breezes and the bay waters lapping the shore. I felt like I wanted to walk on the sandy beach and dip my toes in the bay. I loved the story of Lana and Hunter. This heartwarming story with its fabulous characters and notes of love, loss, new friends and new beginnings is exactly what I needed. Get swept away with this amazing story. Lindsay Gibson is an auto buy author for me and I look forward to reading many more of her stories. I highly recommend this ten star read…I loved it.
Lana’s life is hectic. Just as she is about to graduate from Culinary School, she finds out that her grandfather’s inn is foreclosing. It’s too late to try to save it as there is already a new owner. She is informed the fish market next door, owned by her parents, is going to be hers. Within 5 years, she transformed it into a successful restaurant.
Lana has endured a lot of losses, including losing her parents, and now losing out on buying the Inn for a second time. Hunter, a property developer who works for his father’s company, comes to town to turn the Inn into an event venue. He wants to buy out Lana’s restaurant as well. His father is pressuring him to get the sale. As Hunter gets to know Lana and how important her family and restaurant are to the community, will he have the courage to give her an offer for her restaurant? Can Hunter use his good looks to get the job done?
Lindsay Gibsin has written another heartfelt beach read that incorporates love, loss and second beginnings! I loved how the author incorporated the old with the new! Such a well written book that has characters you will be cheering on as they figure out their new path. A fun and entertaining beach read that is perfect for your pool or beach bag!

However, when dementia claims her grandad’s well-being and the inn goes up for foreclosure…her future and all she had planned is now in question. Five years later, the inn is now back for sale…and Lana immediately acts on it…
But when New York City developer, Hunter Graham gets his eyes on the property…Lana is faced with one final blow when his company out bids her for it. But will losing the inn forever be just what she had needed? How Hunter and Lana find love amongst it all?
My thoughts:
Lindsay Gibson has written another beautiful book. I’m completely charmed by this story. It was a sweet, romantic, heartfelt, inspired and uplifting story. The characters were interesting and the story flowed so effortlessly keeping the reader engaged. I highly recommend this gorgeous beach read of loss, love, compassion and the family ties that bind us.
Thank you to Harpeth Press for the copy I received in exchange for an honest opinion.
I loved this book!!! Such a sweet summer romance!! The quaint small town in Cape Cod was the perfect setting. All the seafood that Lana cooked sounded delicious, and now I have a craving for New England clam chowder!! Highly recommend this one!!
First and foremost, Thank you to Lindsay Gibson and Harpeth Press for the opportunity to read an early Copy of this special story. This is my first book by this author but it certainly will not be my lady. She is a fantastic writer. She had me in the first chapter and I couldn’t put it down. You won’t want to miss Lana and Hunters story centered around the revitalization of Lana’s family’s Inn. Her grandfather lost the inn due to financial difficulties and Lana lost the bid to purchase it back when Hunters family won out. Lana goes through so much emotional turmoil during the revitalization of her family’s inn. Hunter does his best to make it easier on her after he finds out how loved Lana and her family are in this small town. So you don’t want to miss this very special story. If I could give this more than five stars……I would.
This is the 2nd book I’ve read by Lindsay Gibson and it was as good as the first. I grew up in small towns so this made me feel right at home. It was a story of losses, but also of love. One of following your dreams through hard work. Now I’m ready for the author’s next Christmas book..!!
If life didn’t always have to happen, I would have finished this book in a day. Lindsay has an great talent in writing romance novels! The place setting of Cape Cod caught my attention, page after page I felt like I was transported back to my favorite vacation spot. Lindsay really brought out the Cape Cod vibe through Chef Lana and her culinary skills, and clam chowdah! Don’t pass this book up this summer! It’s a perfect read!
If you like Hallmark movies, this novel is for you. It's set at the seashore in a small town which reminded me a lot of when I visited Plum Island. Lana desperately wants to repurchase her grandparents' inn, but a big city company buys it at a higher price right from under her offer. The two don't hit it off immediately but do bump into each other in a cafe much like in a Hallmark movie. Instead of drinking hot cocoa, you'll find the two love interests digging clams or tubing down a river. There are a few misunderstandings and some issues from their past that have to be dealt with, but it delivers a satisfying end. Recommended as a present for anyone who likes Hallmark movies!
Oh my word , this one rivaled the first book Christmas Coin for the number of happy , joyous and sad tears I’ve shed . I’m going to have to purchase stock in the Puffs Tissue company before anymore books come out ….. hint hint ! There must be more to the series please . I’m not ready to say goodbye to this sweet series . A must not miss series read !
Heartwarming story with family, friendships, legacy, love, and more. The past can have special memories that guide us along the way in life. In this sweet story, the main character finds new beginnings while showing gratitude and respect for the past. I enjoyed reading this one and look forward to reading more stories by this author.
Lindsay Gibson writes books worthy of a Hallmark or Lifetime movie. “Fly Away Summer” is a beautiful story of family, love, and memories. I highly recommend this book and Lindsay’s first book “The Christmas Promise.” I can’t wait to read her next one!
