Still funny. There's only one joke, but tbh at the rate these are coming out I doubt I will ever get tired of it.

The Immortal Dragon attempts to thwart shopkeepers, find lost cats, make the most of the holidays, and continues to phrase the most innocuous things in the most menacing way possible.

Look, it’s no better or worse than your average volume for the series and there’s some wacky stuff in here that really helps set it apart from the lesser instalments. If you like this, you’re fine, but it’s still beating one joke to hell and gone.

It doesn’t hurt that it’s been a hot minute since we had one of this volumes released over here and it was fun to see that it just hasn’t changed a lick, for better or for worse, mostly better. The space between releases just makes it feel like a pleasant visit rather than coming off as overly familiar and stale.

I won’t cover the whole thing, but there are some highlights. The chapter where Tatsu becomes smug as hell for having quit smoking is a very specific type of obnoxiousness that you can get from somebody who has accomplished something making sure you KNOW they’ve accomplished something.

This one in particular doesn’t seem like it’s going to be much, but it keeps escalating and escalating in the best comedic fashion until it essentially ends with Masa, Tatsu’s junior, being portrayed as the second coming of Christ.

Actually, Masa does a lot more than usual this volume in terms of being funny. The Christmas chapter brings Tatsu, Miku, and Masa together for the holidays, even if one person would really rather be anywhere but. Masa’s outfit in this one does half the heavy lifting, but the gag about how bad these three are at gift selection is the perfect capper.

Those are my favourite stories, but the rest of the book runs the gamut from that very silly lost cat story (which brings back another feline costar in the omake) to the most series-appropriate Animal Crossing knock-off possible. Which also pays off in spades during the omake.

Pretty much no complaints here. Even the laziest or most obvious chapter has something funny to it. Actually, the little kid who shows up deserves special praise too as her odd mannerisms turn her first chapter into a glorious parody of food manga.

It’s not deep, but it’s not trying to be. However, it is trying to be funny, and it is. There are a ton of really strong moments, so if you’re in the mood for this silliness and need a quick pick-me-up, here’s an easy solution.

4 stars - a slightly protracted release schedule definitely helps this one out. I wouldn’t want to read this back to back to back, but a volume every few months is the perfect amount of digestible content for this goofy premise.

Loved this. Tatsu is so serious over the most silliest of things and it always makes for an interesting read. The art style of this manga is always so lovely too.

An enjoyable read with the expected humorous situations, though it does not tread much new ground. Maybe it’s because my favorite moments often involve the relationship between Tatsu (in all his yakuza stylings) and Miku (and her very non-yakuza personality), and in this collection of stories, Miku barely appears at all. The Christmas story had some nice moments between the two, however, and an eager Masa appearing in a reindeer costume was an amusing touch.

The language and slang used in this series cracks me up (although it can sometimes be confusing 😅)

This issue has a lot of good humor and doesn't overuse old jokes. Solid chapters and fun character development.

Directly copy and pasting from my last volume, I think that taking a year away from reading this volume works better for me, because while the story remains pretty stagnant, I was able to enjoy this and the ninth (ten volumes, thank goodness for the library, because I would have been irritated if I had purchased these.) volume. Maybe it'll end soon, probably not, but unfortunately I have to continue reading this series.

Tatsu is enlisted by a local grocery to look out for shoplifters because they are causing the business to bleed cash due to the number of thefts. But Tatsu’s methods are not quite what the owner expected. And when a shoplifter is actually caught, Tatsu and the others becomes too engrossed in what the man planned to use his stolen ingredients for.

One of the ladies in Tatsu’s group has a weight problem, and Tatsu is quick with solutions! He warns her of enemies who will try to lay her low, but he knows a group who will be perfect to help her in her fight against the battle of the bulge!

Tatsu meets up with his old boss in the park, who is babysitting his granddaughter An. When An announces she is hungry, the boss asks Tatsu if he can help, since he lives close by. Tatsu is happy to oblige, of course. But cooking for a child with a discriminating palate is more of a challenge than he realized!

Tatsu has finally broken his bad habit! He quit smoking and it’s been a week now! But, as his friends and acquaintances learn to their chagrin, reformed smokers can be the worst and the quickest to give unasked-for advice and lectures!

Tatsu is excited for Christmas! But when Miku comes down with an unexpected bug on Christmas Eve, Tatsu has to temper his enthusiasm with Miku’s needs.

A member of Tatsu’s group arrives late to their meeting, and he is startled to see her dry, cracked lips. He attempts to discuss skin care with her, but she seems oblivious to her problem. Can Tatsu tell her in a diplomatic way? Or will her stubborn refusal to listen to what he is saying only lead to more pain for her?

Tatsu is the proud owner of an electric bicycle he won in a drawing! When he runs into Masa on the street, he is more than happy to show off his new ride. But their old boss shows up in his new ride, a huge SUV, and Tatsu lets him know just how bad for the environment that gas guzzler is.

Tatsu and the gang are searching for a missing feline, but when the cat is returned by an unexpected source, Tatsu becomes defensive and accuses them of catnapping!

It’s granddaughter An’s birthday, which is stressful not knowing what to get her for a gift that will be pleasing to her and the boss. She receives a new game called Boss in a Barrel and wants to play it with the guys. The goal is to kill the boss in the barrel. But they have to fight their instincts to never harm their boss, and this isn’t going to be easy for them!

Bonus story 1: An and her friend play a game called Guess the Face.

Bonus story 2: Animal Bossing (think Animal Crossing, Tatsu-style!)

I don’t even know which Tatsu story I loved the most! I never get tired of reading about Tatsu and his exploits. Another great volume, looking forward to the next one!

Tatsu is growing and firming his community. Now, hunting down shoplifters and nearly beating up anyone who looks remotely ambivalent about their grocery-store purchases probably isn't the way to go, but the guy's got heart. Tatsu is also doing his utmost to ensure everyone is living as healthy as possible. Now, getting into vivid arguments about the dangers of smoking and the perils of greenhouse gas emissions probably isn't the best way to go, but again, the guy's got heart.

THE WAY OF THE HOUSEHUSBAND v10 settles into the delightful, if known routine of Tatsu's well-meaning exploits spiraling out of scope but not entirely out of focus. It takes everything the former gangster has in his repertoire to convince a fellow homemaker to take part in a walking club to help shave off a few pounds. Insofar as the manga is a clever, stealth advocate for healthy living and common-sense egalitarianism, Tatsu's comically verbose tactics successfully convince people that the easiest ways to improve their lives are often the best.

And he's not wrong. Walking everyday is good. Quitting smoking is good. Cycling instead of driving an SUV is good. The problem, of course, is that Tatsu will threaten and assail you until you agree to see things his way.

The most amusing chapter introduces An, aged five, the granddaughter of Tatsu's former boss. The girl is wildly discerning and has a penchant for calling out the obvious. She's also equipped with her own encyclopedia of yakuza facial expressions. So, naturally, when Tatsu offers to make the girl a snack, An's food reviews are initially, damningly blunt — "So plain!" "Interesting!" "Too fancy!" — only to be followed by thoroughly disengaging poesy that professionally deconstructs the man's culinary skills. (An: "The gently cooked lamb fat is juicy and has a sweet, distinctive aroma. It's not a bad pair with the creamy sauce either! And the watercress accent augments it . . . This dish is like leaving a rural French town to set out on a new journey.")

THE WAY OF THE HOUSEHUSBAND v10 is a solid volume. Readers aren't saddled with secondary characters that are bigger than the stories they inhabit, and Tatsu's odd behaviors scale perfectly for the stakes at play.

Summary:

Once upon a time, a man named Tatsu was a fierce member of the Yakuza. He was known as the Immortal Dragon and infamous for everything he did – and survived. But that was years ago. Now he's a househusband and quite dedicated to the job.

Enter the househusband! He walked away from a life of danger and violence. Now, he fights a new type of battle against dust and messes. All while mastering the art of cooking and shopping.

Review:

The Way of the Househusband Vol. 10 continues this comedic and delightful series – in hilarious fashion. Okay, that's probably not so much of a surprise at this point. We're ten volumes in at this point, so we're all well aware of the antics Tatsu can get into.

The stories in this volume range from chuckle-worthy to rolling on-the-floor laughter. It's an adventure, to say the least! Tatsu becoming an enforcer for a local grocery store is my favorite mini-arc of the volume, mostly because it's so out of pocket.

A secondary character introduced in the last volume makes another appearance here, and I think readers will get another laugh out of it. As always, I love the cat content. I would do anything for more.

Highlights:
Ex-Yakuza turned Househusband
Comical
Slice of Life
Adorable Cat side stories

I love this series because as long as you know the basic premise, that this big bad ex-yakuza guy has settled down and gotten married and is an upstanding househusband, it really doesn't matter which books you read in which order. The quality and humour are on par in every chapter.

The reason I've taken off a star for this volume is the "extreme faces girl" joke was only sort of funny, and the follow-up chapter (and bonus chapter) were... less funny. I don't know. I guess part of the joke is the unsettlingness of her character, which is... I don't know... just less funny.

I'm glad Masa got in a good potshot with , haha. He deserves a rare win.

Recommended for fans of the series, or fans of scary guys being wholesome!
