I think this is the first time with this series that I’ve thought of getting the next volume digitally because, oh my goodness, the unexpected angst!!

I already felt in the last volume that there was a hint of desperation? uncertainty? anxiety? All three of them? were starting to creep in, leaving me feeling a little bit nervous, but this volume felt like it especially had all of that and more!

I was so moved by the way Hananoi has grown as a character, and Hotaru, too! Both of them HAVE changed, as one of them pointed out, but I don’t think either has changed for the worse. I would say they both have gotten more beautiful, as I personally have grown more attached to them for their courage in having conversations that are simply just hard. They are facing things from the past that truly take courage, and I admire them both for bravely doing so.

I am, however, scared to know where this series is going because while I feel fully confident that these two deeply love each other, I just worry about what Hananoi is thinking.

I can only hope good things are in store for these two!!

This volume was really intense. It focused on Hananoi’s feelings and thoughts which was nice to see after the last volume.

I know that Hananoi and Hotaru are going to overcome this, but it still made me really emotional. When Hananoi was on the beach and was about to step into the water my heart dropped. I feel like a big part of Hananoi’s story is him coming to terms/dealing with his trauma while in a relationship. It was really interesting to see him reflect on how he wanted a partner that was completely focused on him, but he also fell for Hotaru because of how selfless she is. Very contradicting things. Sometimes they seem so mature within their relationship, but scenes like this remind me that they’re still kids trying to figure themselves out and unfortunately Hananoi has a lot of negative feelings that he has to figure out. My heart hurts for him.

I was a little shocked when he compared Hotaru to his mom 😭 I totally understand where he was coming from and he wasn’t being mean but it was still a little shocking.

Also, the scene after the movie was… a lot.

I think I'm starting to get frustrated lol

All the way to volume 15 now and Saki is still having the same issues that he had in the first volume. Every time I think he's finally getting over his traumas and issues they come back to haunt him. I think there's a lot of realism to that, but I also think that he's just making things harder. It's frustrating that out of the pair only the girl is making any emotional growths. Her quest was to learn what love was and felt like. His quest was to be loved, but he seems to not be able to accept it. His insecurities and self-loathing keep interfering. It just gets to the point where enough is enough. I feel bad about feeling that way but maybe it's just part of mentally bonding with the characters? You just kind of want to talk to them and help them get through their problems because you have a unique perspective of knowing everything being a reader.

The angst…they are two very different people emotionally, and they have to work hard to match up their steps. I do like that Saki is fairly self aware, and even knows his notion of love is not quite “normal.” He’s been extra in his head and possessive, and he wants to monopolize Hotaru, but feels guilty about monopolizing her, but…and Hotaru isn’t quite sure what’s going on.

The thing is that Hotaru is an easygoing and sweet person. She finds it easy to say “it will be ok, I’ll make it up to him later!” and do what she feels needs doing. Saki isn’t like that, and he’s struggling with allowing her to be herself, or trying to cage her. He very much overthinks everything and is currently in a pretty bad place mentally. He’s even blaming himself for the death of her grandfather, as if his not meeting him that day is directly responsible for his death and Hotaru being unable to have a relationship with him. His talk with the new guy after the solo beach walk was also helpful. I like new guy’s assertion that just because people are annoying doesn’t mean he doesn’t like them. The suggestion that Saki be a writer was an intriguing one, which would allow him to WFH.

Despite their differences, they have a pretty healthy relationship, with communication and serious discussions. Saki cares very much about her boundaries and consent, even if he finds it difficult to control himself occasionally. Lucky for him the Hinase sisters don’t know what a hickey is…

So…… he is upset because she will choose to help someone in need rather than go on a date with him. Boy oh boy, childhood traumas suck!

In the next volume, I hope these two knuckleheads communicate about this situation and find a happy solution! (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑

….please let them find a happy solution.

Now that I have a boyfriend I can really relate to Saki in some stuff, specially when it comes to wanting to be your partner’s number one priority (is that concerning? Lol). Really enjoyed this volume!

A lot sure happened here!!! Hotaru and Saki are trying so hard, but it’s not currently enough. I did really like the nuance in their miscommunications, because both are valid. They really, really care about each other.

some big steps forward, in their own way....the scene of them slowly progressing the physical part of their relationship in the most thoughtful and sweet way was just *chefs kiss*. I'm not sure I love this conflict that's bubbling up and wish they would just open up to each other augh

I feel like this is the first volume in a while in which this manga did something deserving of the “deep and complex” reputation it has gained.
