Book of Sin #2

The Broker

Rate this book
The secrets of the past never remain buried. Somehow, they always find a way of leaking into the present, forcing people to face their demons and confront the haunting truths they have tried so desperately to keep hidden.

Isaac
25, Exotic Dancer... likes to party and have a good time.

What can I say? I like to have fun. Do I party hard? Yes. Do I make all the guys around me hot under the collar? Also, yes. But what's my favorite thing to do? Annoy the heck out of a certain uptight, ex-army boy whose muscles are way too big for his body. Seriously. We get it. You work out, dude... but also, I want you. Right here. Right now. Nope! Not going to admit that! Never. Ever. So, forget what you just heard and move along, please.

Jared
28, Exotic Dancer, ex-army... spends most of his time making sure that a certain blue-haired pain stays out of trouble.

Why do I do this? He annoys me to no end. Constantly playing pranks and always getting on my nerves. Yet, for some reason, I always find myself looking out for him. Making sure that he's safe and stays out of trouble. So, when the boss asks Isaac to revisit his painful past, of course, I'm there to protect him. He's going to need all the moral support he can get. Also, if anyone touches him, they're going to be introduced to a whole new level of pain. Just don't tell Isaac. I still have a reputation to keep.

This is an MM Dark Romance filled with bad men doing bad things.

Content Kidnapping, violence, off-screen assault, alcohol abuse, foul language, and loads of steamy scenes.

Matteo is the owner of the La Maison de M and keeps a close watch on all the clientele that become members. He was used once before by Edwin who began using the information on the high end customers for blackmail. Edwin kept a journal, that became known as the “Book of Sin”. Since the incident of the journal Marc Bodin is now working with Matteo in conducting background searches on any new applicants.
Jared is also helping to look for any applicants that are a danger to society and the club. Jared runs across a lawyer, Benjamin Sawyer who arranges fake adoptions for people. He tells Matteo about a gangster called “The Night Basher” and the name Declan Snake. Jared notices immediately that something has set Matteo off.

Isaac at a young age lost his father and he went to live with his Uncle. At the age of
fifteen found himself being pimped out to two men. Isaac fought back and wouldn’t let these men abuse him. Drunk and high one of the men tried to take Isaac but he scratched and kicked. When the man fell and and cracked his head on fireplace bricks, he died. His uncle had left him and there was nothing left to do but run. He wouldn’t go home anymore. He made his own life on the streets selling his body until he met Matteo. Besides Matteo giving him a safe place, he found a friend in Jared.

Jared, now twenty-eight, is a big strapping ex-military man and struggles even now with PTSD. Matteo found Jared in a bar, after several nights he and Matteo became friends. Matteo offered Jared help and a safe place to live his life. Even with therapy Jared doesn’t share what he faced in the military. His room is next to Isaac’s and Isaac can hear when Jared is having his nightmares. Experiencing Jared’s reaction to be woken during these nightmares makes Isaac very cautious when he goes to check on Jared. As much as the blue hair, skater boy, irritates Jared with his joking around, Jared’s always cared for Isaac. He worried of his safety when it came to entertaining too many men at one time.

As they had a friendship, driving each other crazy, they find themselves crossing the caution line. When Jared, Isaac, Gunnar, Anders, Teo and the impulsive Diesel have been invited on a yacht with some high end clients, Jared and Isaac become more involved. They really go over board and when they are almost caught decide they have to slow down. After all, what would Matteo do if he found out?

On their return to the club, Isaac never get’s to shower, when he is approached by Matteo, who want’s to see him immediately. Matteo had done some intense investigating and he shares the information uncovered about Benjamin Sawyer and the man known as Declan Snake with Isaac. With Matteo’s agreement, Isaac will go to Ireland and see his Uncle in prison. He’s in the company of Jared, Diesel and Malik one of Matteo’s top security. Not really getting the information they need, Diesel suggests they spend overnight in Dublin. When all return to La Maison, Matteo is angry that they stayed over night and it was made worse when he received Ares little message. When Chase get’s wind of the massive screw up, he explodes at all of them, even Matteo and he’s on the phone to Marc Bodin.

As Isaac is now in danger, only Raj knows what happened but he’s not talking. Will Matteo and the boys be able to deal with this crisis? Who else will come to join them? What of Jared will he be able to handle the chaos that lies ahead?

Matthew Dante brings back Matteo and the boys of La Maison de M in the second “Book of Sins” with “The Broker.” It’s another fast paced, dark thriller, with danger, excitement, a budding romance and humor. This time the pranksters, Isaac and Jared, take the stage. Isaac is consistently pranking Jared and it drives him crazy. There’s so much snark and banter between them. They have a special friendship that started with Jared and a skateboard. They go from friends and cross that line and try to hide it. They also show their serious and vulnerable sides, as they start to share their pasts.

Other characters that deserve much recognition: Matteo and Ares, just what is or isn’t going on between these two. Raj is certainly a special kind of hero. Will Diesel find his way and come back to earth? Teo is turning out to be interesting, too.

I highly recommend “The Broker” and the “Book of Sin” series, especially if you like characters that have struggled in life and now have a growing friendship thanks to Matteo. Can’t wait to see who Matthew Dante has plans to expose next!

'Having Isaac wrapped in his arms, Jared couldn’t help but smile. He had never met a man who could infuriate him and completely consume him, both at the same time. There was no doubt in his mind that his heart belonged to Isaac… completely.'

We're back at La Maison de M in Matthew Dante's The Broker, and I am so happy to be back!

This time, it's Jared and the blue-haired prankster Isaac who find love, with some laughs, hijinks, heat, and suspense along the way.

We saw in The Collector how these two love to tease and annoy each other, but we all knew there was much more to the feelings between them, and here we get to know their real story.

Both guys have difficult pasts, and I really felt for both of them. I loved seeing where they came from and how they found a family and happiness with Matteo at La Maison.

But we also see that whilst Jared and Isaac may appear to have the ability to do nothing but irritate each other, they secretly protect each other, unbeknownst to anyone else, including themselves.

Jared will protect Isaac when the exotic dancer is entertaining a large group of men, whilst Isaac offers comfort to Jared when he has nightmares from his time in the military.

These two are secretly so sweet and thoughtful with each other, and I absolutely love it 😍

'Jared was Isaac’s protector, and he would always be whatever the boy needed him to be.'

“The walls between our bedrooms are not that thick, so whenever I hear you struggling, I slip in here and cuddle you back to sleep.”
“What? I… Why would you…”
“Because… I like you.”

But danger lurks when Matteo is on the hunt for criminals listed in the book of sin, which leads back to Isaac’s past, and a gang perpetrating the most despicable crime.

Can Jared and Isaac survive when the odds are stacked against them?

The Broker is another fantastic addition to the Book of Sin series. I really loved how Isaac and Jared's relationship developed, how they loved and protected each other, all while maintaining their camaraderie, and believe me, these two are fire together ❤️‍🔥

I love all of the characters involved in this series. I'm especially keen for Matteo and Ares's story!!

And Raj is a good boy for how he protects the inhabitants of La Maison, give that boy a treat!

It was so much fun returning to La Maison de M, I can't wait until I can go back for another instalment!

'There was no other person that he trusted more with his heart than the blue-haired pain in the ass, ball of energy currently curled up into the side of his body.
“I love you,” he whispered before gently kissing the top of Isaac’s sweaty hair.
“I love you, too, buttface.” Isaac’s voice was soft and muffled, no doubt halfway to dreamland.
Jared chuckled. This was how love stories were meant to end. Happy, cum drunk, and wrapped in each other’s arms.'

Wow another great book from Matthew! He really knows how to bring out the dark in a book! The second half of the book had me on the edge of my seat!

Jared is ex army and has PTSD and has a secret longing for his fellow worker at Le Maison de M. The blue fireball drives him insane till one day he wakes up to him in bed and realises he has a caring side to him.

Isaac is a flirty guy full of energy and loves to wind up Jared! Once the connection between them is made and they realise what they have is special it’s full steam ahead for them.

The bond they make can’t be broken and when the book takes a turn to the dark side all bets are off and Jared is prepared to kill.

I loved these two guys, full of banter and spicy times, but also love and affection.

Found family’s are my favourite and I loved seeing all the crew again. I’m desperate for Matteo’s book but I’ll read anything Matthew writes.

This book does have dark themes so make sure you read the trigger warnings.

Although Jared pretending he thought Issac was a pain he secretly liked him and went out of his way to protect him. Although Issac played pranks on Jared he went to comfort him each time he heard him having nightmares . Absolutely loved this book Jared and Issac are perfect and Diesel well i need his story because his humour and sarcasm are epic. What’s going on with Matteo and Ares you can feel the chemistry between them jumping off the page and i can’t wait to hear their backstory.

I absolutely loved book 1 (loved everything Matthew Dante has written to date in fact) and I was desperately waiting for this to come out for, what felt like, forever 😂 Happy to report that I was not disappointed and it's in my top 5 reads of the year so far.

The Collector introduced us to Isaac and Jared and I knew from their antics and behaviour towards each other that their book would be a lot of fun & filth and, again, I was not disappointed! It picks up around a month or so after book 1 (Levi & Chase feature in this book, Raj too- yay) and it follows Isaac and Jared on their journey to admitting their feelings for each other. You get a beautifully written backstory for each man that really gets you in the feels. Both with different troubled pasts that almost broke them, both found by Matteo and shown what love, family and safety really is and, combined with the amazing way Matthew Dante just pulls you in to this story with the flawless world he's tattooed in your mind when you're reading it, you get this stunning story of 2 men that simply find their person.

No spoilers in this review but I cannot recommend this book and series enough. Hopefully there will be a book 3 (and 4, and 5, and 6....😉). Apart from not being able to put this down (finished it in a day 💪) I honestly didn't want this one to end. Usually I'm desperate to see how things turn out, what happens to who etc. But this one could have gone on for another 300 pages and I probably (definitely) still wouldn't want it to end.

You probably could get away with not reading book 1 before this but it would give away a fair few spoilers if you were to go back and read it after this (plus book 1 really is phenomenal, perfectly sets up the bigger picture of this world so go on, read it first and thank me later 😉)

The boys of La Maison de M are back with another hot couple and danger on the horizon. Issac and Jared had hot chemistry and witty banter as the two fell in love. This dangerous situation hit close to home for Issac with Jared wanting to protect him at all costs. I'm loving this series and these men!

Loved book 1 and I have been eagerly awaiting book 2 and it didn’t disappoint. We’re back at La Maison de M with Matteo still fiercely protecting his boys. In the last book we were introduced to the brooding ex military man Jared and the blue haired pain in his ass Isaac who was constantly playing pranks on him. In this book we find out about their past and the trauma they both experienced before the lovely Matteo found them and gave them a safe place to live with a big loving chosen family.

Both men are exotic dancers in Matteo’s exclusive men’s club and we discover the protective side of Jared and the way he looks out for Isaac. Issac is too trusting and doesn’t realise the lengths that Jared goes to to ensure his safety, Jared begins to realise that a lot of that protection comes down to jealousy and not wanting others touching Isaac.

What Jared doesn’t realise is that Isaac is also protecting him. Jared suffers from the nightmares his PTSD leaves him with most nights, and Isaac secretly sneaks into his room and cuddles him until they pass.

They seem oblivious to their feelings for each other, well Jared is and it takes Matteo to point out that Isaac is tormenting him to make sure Jared’s attention is on him.

As they find love we get lots of fun, laughter, steam and of course suspense. It wouldn’t be a Matthew Dante book without a darker and insidious side but as always he injects the humour you need to get through the sensitive subjects and as Matteo again delves into the journal listing crimes and the perpetrators and picks a particularly vile crime, it brings danger to their door.

I am really invested in Matteo and Ares. They obviously have an interesting history and I can’t wait to find out all about it in book 3 and special shout out to Raj, that tiger proved how much he loves his family at La Maison de M

Matthew has given us a lot of loveable and interesting characters so hopefully we will get a few more books in this wonderful series.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion and I recommend you read this book.

Here we are, back once again at La Maison de M. We are in for another wild ride in this fantastic world that Matthew Dante has created with the hot sexy men of the Maison de M family in The Broker ( Book of Sin 2). He always gives the readers what they want with fresh, original, exciting storylines. I always look forward to a Matthew Dante book. He's one of my favorite authors for a reason.

I recommend reading The Collecter ( Book of Sin 1) before reading this. It will enhance your reading experience. You will be able to understand the prior storyline and become familiar with the characters. The two mcs Isaac and Jared are introduced in this book. The beginning of their relationship, and " flirting" play through out book one.

This book is a must read. A multi-layered storyline that satisfies. There are surprises at every corner. There is a big bad reminiscent of a comic book villian. Found family with bonds held together with love, trust, and loyalty. These character, their connections are precious, vibrant and memorable. There is emotional content along with that hot, sexy spice.

And the romance of it all; Isaac and Jared. These two men have a bond that goes from strength to strength. Playful " flirting was only the beginning for these two. This is an emotionally driven love story that is deeply beautiful. I don't want to spoil too much of their love story or the storyline. Just saying, I adored reading about Isaac and Jared's love story.

I enjoy reading books with mental health rep. They are important, powerful, and should be written about more. The mental health rep in The Broker is handled with grace, care, and sensitivity. This book needs to be read. Matthew Dante has another masterpiece on his hands. I can't wait to see what brilliant ideas he comes up with next. Make sure to check your cw.

The Broker is the second installment in the Book of Sins series by Matthew Dante.
After a strong start, The Broker builds on what worked so well in The Collector.
Matteo is still in charge of his large found family of dancers at La Maison de M. Skater boy Isaac and former soldier Jared are the couple in this book and I enjoyed their frenemies vibe and Isaac constantly needling Jared with his crazy pranks.
I loved how the blue-haired pain in butt had a secret, compassionate side. And that’s just the start of the secrets that keep the plot moving at a breakneck pace. This antagonists to friends with benefits to lovers is a compelling journey.
The big bad this time is a truly heinous villain with a surprising tie to Isaac.
As Jared and Isaac explore their burgeoning feelings, they also confront some painful truths about their pasts. I was fascinated how they both found their way to LMDM.
I also like how other characters from Matthew’s previous books fit seamlessly into this new world.
The takedown and aftermath take a dark turn, but it wasn’t anything the bad guys didn’t deserve. (But do check the trigger warnings.)
Other thoughts:
*I like how all the LMDM guys have each other’s backs. Sure, they bicker, but they are always there for each other.
*Levi and Chase are still as adorable as all get out.
*Kudos for how mental health issues (like Jared’s PTSD) were presented.
*WTF is going on with Mateo and Ares? That is one story I can’t wait to read! The potential for a double alpha enemies to lovers story has me giddy with anticipation.
The mix of dark thriller and spicy romance works really well. Start reading The Collector now so you’ll be ready for The Broker when it releases August 2.

This is the second in the series and I’m really enjoying these stories.
This centers around Jared and Isaac. Both of these guys have had a rough time and deal with issues daily.
Jared’s ex-army and was happy in the service until things change and he is unable to deal. It leaves him unable to survive daily life with PTSD and is on the verge of something awful when he is given an opportunity that changes his life. Living at La Maison de M is a private gentlemen’s club gives him a chance to be part of something again.
Isaac also is part of the group at La Maison de M. He is the prankster among the group and most of his pranks seem to focus on Jared. There are plenty of things he does to irritate him. But maybe it is for attention.
When these two get together it is somewhat like oil and water. Jared being so caring and Isaac being unable to acknowledge his feelings.
This is a romance with a little back history causing problems. I enjoyed these two facing the possibility that they can be more. I liked the way the story unfolded, kept me page turning. The only unanswered question I’m left with is what is Isaac’s brother's final outcome? Now I can’t wait until the next book and am more than a little anxious for Matteo’s story to be written.

DNF at 48% when MC thinks to himself “This was the sort of shit you saw in movies or read about in books. It didn’t happen in real life.” except the information he was reacting to was the same information he’d told someone else a couple chapters earlier???

Super repetitive, both in the same few paragraphs and overall. Some random misogyny from MC and lots of violence against women (at least it’s off page?) like there’s no reason for the women to be repeatedly assaulted just for the bad guy to seem worse. Women aren’t objects for your plot points/character “development”. Weird about race, too—you already identified two bad guys as having face tattoos, why do you need to specify them as Hispanic also? Race/ethnicity wasn’t acknowledged much for the rest overall (except an Irishman, who had an Irish accent, whom the other character deadass goes “don’t know where he came from” like ?? might he have come from…..IRELAND perhaps??)

Just really not the vibe at all. Pacing meandered and the repetition of phrases/feelings/ideas made it worse. no thank you

Oh, Isaac, I loved him in The Collector and now he gets his own story.  He is such a fun loving man, you would never know that he has a past that still haunts him. The way he takes care of Jared, but doesn't tell him, is so special. Jared knows he has feelings for Isaac, despite driving him crazy with all of his practical jokes, but when he wakes to find Isaac in his bed, things start to heat up between them. He is a natural protector, he has been looking out for Isaac for a long time and as they get closer, Jared gets growlier. There is another tense situation involving the guys at La Maison's which leads them to danger. It adds a greater narrative to the story. Once the danger has past, they are back to their two favourite things, sexy scenes or joking around. A great continuation to the series, I can't wait to hear Matteo's story, I have a feeling it is going to be dangerously hot.

It’s taken me a bit to get back into reading. I’ve had a lot going on, but Matthew Dante is one of the authors who always brings everything he has to the table and gets me excited about reading again. I love falling into worlds he creates.

And Jarad and Issac’s story is absolutely no different. Continuing the Book of Sin series, these two have a story that will have you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. It did just that for me, and I loved every moment.

“Are you gonna Marry, Kiss, or Kill me? I’m betting on all three” (Taylor Swift). Those words were running through my head this whole book. You never know what’s going to happen between these two, especially with the world pounding on their door.

Thank you once more, Mr. Dante, for a fabulous book. I’m sorry it took me a bit to get to it, but you’re always worth the wait!

Isaac and Jared are just so sweet and funny together ~ I appreciate to have the romance before the action !
It was really sweet seeing them together, being there for each others and acting like kids before getting together.

It was a sweet moment before the intrigue kicked in and all the actions and small angst happened.
I love seeing Levi and Chase again. I absolutely love the found family feeling that doesn’t stick out of La maison de M. I’m getting attached to all of them and having an actual plot being all those romances is nice.

The balance between romance/plot and smut is perfect. 👌🏻

After reading book 1, I was hoping Jared and Isaac would have their own book and I’m glad they did. This was an easy quick read. If you’re looking for a fast paced slow burn friends to lovers, where their love language is teasing and packing each other, sneaking into the other’s room to cuddle him whenever he has nightmares. Then this is for you.🥰 You’ll enjoy this.

So far, Isaac and Jared are my favourite.

💕 I’ve read The Broker a few times now and every time I read it, I fall in love with it a little more. Isaac and Jared are hilarious in the first book of the series and it has been fabulous getting to know them better in their own tale. The Broker gives us both the laughs and all the feels.

Matthew Dante always showcases a great balance of themes within his books. My first read of this treasure reminded me of the rom-coms he’s written in the past. But with my second read through, I had to pause when he dealt with just how beautiful vulnerability is in a world where men, especially tough looking men are expected to be rough and strong in every aspect. Matthew discusses the stigma that prevents people from talking about mental health. Specifically about men’s mental and emotional struggles.

Finally, this wouldn’t be a dark romance if we didn’t deal with the ever present theme of bad men doing bad things. The circumstances within this story are deplorable, and yet, here are our boys diving right into helping out. Naturally, they’ll get themselves into trouble doing so. We get to see brutality and murder, alongside seduction and love. The epilogue is a must read.
