New job. New start. But you’re staring at your one-night stand.
Audrey Adams is starting over. Three days ago, she left her cheating ex. And Audrey did not walk out she sang the best break-up song of all time at her in a packed-out bar and dropped the mic. Then she had an unforgettable night with the most drop-dead gorgeous woman she’s ever seen in her life, a hiking guide with perfectly toned arms and sparkling sky-blue eyes… who she’s been trying not to think about ever since. Audrey is done with romance.
But then on her first morning at her new job at an outdoors store, she walks into someone. Literally headfirst into her, and as coffee begins to stain her shirt, Audrey looks up into a pair of very familiar beautiful blue eyes. It’s Toni. The woman she last saw in her bed, her wild curls thrown across the pillow. Who is now technically her boss.
Every time Toni comes into work in another incredibly sexy plaid shirt, talking about the next Rocky Mountain she’s planning to climb, Audrey daydreams about that amazing night they had together. But dating someone she works with is a line she has never crossed, especially when as she needs this job to go well.
But rules are made to be broken… right?
A fabulously feel-good, sexy, lesbian romcom that will have you glued to the pages until you’ve laughed till you cry! If you’ve fallen for novels by Talia Hibbert, Casey McQuiston and Ali Hazelwood, About Last Night will be your newest, hottest addiction.

Laura Henry is a globe-trotting alter-ego for Melissa Lenhardt. Currently she's stumbling around Europe having misadventures, and getting plenty of story ideas.
2.5 ★'s This book reminded me how much I love the warm feeling that sapphic romances give me. It instantly feels like a safe space. (If we want to analyse it, it probably has to do with the lack of men🤷)
Audrey is fresh out of a long-term toxic relationship and decides to pursue her attraction to Toni. They hook up, agreeing for it to be a one time thing. On Monday they crash into each other at their new jobs, complicating things as they struggle with their draw to one another, healing from previous relationships and keeping a professional standard.
When starting this book we're thrown right into the story. Setting us at Audrey's breakup, there on out the book keeps an efficient pace. It's definitely a book that is easy to finish in one sitting, with around 250 pages and the fast pacing. In that sense I think the pacing is very beneficial to the story, however in other ways I think the romance lost a bit authenticity due to this. The story cuts between the main/most defining moments in their relationship, disregarding the smaller moments between the main characters that I believe are equally as important. I would've preferred to be shown more moments of them bonding and falling in love, not just hearing about their attraction or how they were chatting, but not actually knowing what they've been chatting about.
Another thing that unfortunately dragged down the score for me was the writing itself. Conversations between characters often felt stiff, stilted and ultimately disingenuous. At times it felt like it was too focused on the characters saying "the right thing" instead of focusing on building a dynamic or relationships causing it to lack depth. Other times the writing was a bit too on the nose, overly descriptive leaving nothing to interpretation for me as a reader. Personally I prefer more of a show don't tell type of writing, whereas I felt this was the opposite a lot of the time.
Toni was a highlight to me in this book. So sweet, good-hearted and charming - with the risk of sounding like a grandma - I'd love to just keep her in my pocket.🥰 Something I think Laura did well is the tension between Toni & Audrey. You can tell they were very attracted to each other and I liked how they found ways to tease each other about it.
This is technically not a holiday romance, but I think this could be very cute to read around christmas as much of the plot falls during the winter holidays. 🎄
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture & Laura for the opportunity to read this early in exchange for an honest review. _________ Pre-read: Me and bestie Gracie both received an arc, so obvi we're doing a buddy read 🥹🫶
You know, when a book is pitched to you as "An utterly hilarious, feel-good, forced proximity, lesbian romantic comedy", you tend to have expectations. I certainly did and this did not deliver as I expected it to.
About last night is a dual pov romcom about Audrey, who just got out of an emotionally abusive relationship, and hooks up with Toni. The Monday after they hook up, they realize that they work together, more specifically that Toni's sister hired Audrey and her sister to work for them on a contracted project. Now they have to navigate the sexual tension and awkwardness between them while trying to remain professional.
The book is just a little over 200 pages which must be why the author prioritized major plot points over the seemingly minor ones and that made the book less enjoyable for me. A lot of Audrey and Toni's relationship and conversations progressed off-page and left way too much for the reader to interpret. I'd also have loved to see a little bit more about their other relationship dynamics, with siblings, parents etc, not so much that it takes away from Toni and Audrey but enough that we know more about them as individuals.
For a book being marketed as romcom, the com part is a bit scarce. I don't think there was a point in this book that made me break a smile, let alone laugh. The dialogue felt stiff, forced and basically what you'd expect from a bad actor trying to crack a joke. It doesn't help that the romance part didn't really start until halfway through the book. It didn't feel like a slowburn, more so like the author remembered halfway that it was supposed to be a ROMcom.
There's a point where Greta, Toni's sister, says "handsome d-k-" and I feel the need to say that having your character, who you've asserted is straight at the start of the book, use a slur against lesbians is not very...mmh. I was very uncomfortable reading that.
One more thing, there's a sex scene at the very start of the book, I'm talking 3 chapters in, that spans over 3 entire chapters! For a book that's less than 250 pages, having one sex scene be 3 chapters long is a bit crazy to me!
I absolutely adored Toni. She was so awkward and bumbling and I had the urge to eat her in one bite the entire time I was reading. I do have a bit of a gripe with Audrey though because she lacked basic communication skills and she seemed to have done very little growth at the end of the book.
I did appreciate the pacing of the book. It was pretty fast paced and well planned out to me. The chemistry and sexual tension between Audrey and Toni was also a highlight of the book. I could feel the tension between these two through the pages and it did make it easier to read when the book eventually picked up around the 60% mark.
Overall, this did not really work for me.
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and the author, Laura Henry, for letting me read this early in exchange for an honest review. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ♡pre-read♡ So excited to start this one! br with ml Gry
I didn't laugh once. for a book that claims to be so against insta-love, it sure featured a lot of it. both main characters were either always together or talking about each other or thinking about each other; I get that this is a romance but can these characters have LIVES outside of the relationship please???
The writing style felt a bit off, but it was definitely an easy and fast-paced read, which made it fly by. The characters had undeniable chemistry, yet their conversations often felt stiff and lacked authenticity. For a romcom, I expected more humor alongside the romance, which was somewhat lacking.
Toni was undoubtedly the standout character in this book. Audrey, however, didn't quite click with me. Despite these flaws, the book had its moments that kept me engaged, and I'd be open to giving this author another chance with a different book. There’s potential there, and I’m curious to see how their writing evolves.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book follows the story of Audrey, who finally finds the strength to get out (with style!) of a toxic relationship. At the same time, she meets Toni and has a steamy one-night stand. Then they realize they are going to work together and try to remain professional. Of course, it’s not easy because the chemistry and attraction are definitely there, though the lusting was a bit repetitive for my taste. The story was about finding love but also about the timing of finding it. Toni was really endearing, but I admit the last act fight took away some of her maturity shown all along, and it felt out of character, even if she never had a serious relationship. Their love story is the main point of the book, but Henley also builds a friendship between the two sibling pairs, and what seems to be another love story in parallel. There are enough hints about Willa and Greta’s story to make you already invested in them, yet not enough at the same time to leave you looking forward to their story. Smart move.
If you are looking for something easy to read, sweet, and fun, something you could totally see as a Hallmark movie, this book is the perfect pick.
I received an ARC from Bookouture via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fast and easy read. And it had sapphics! That’s about all this had going for it. It did have potential but I think the problem is how short it is. It’s under 250 pages and because of that Henry spent more time on big scenes rather than showing the reader why Audrey and Toni were end-game.
They start off as a one-night stand and while there was a lot of chemistry there, I didn’t get the same emotional connection that I want in a romance. There’s a lot of lusting after one another but not much else.
There’s also a lot of stuff that happens off page. We know they spend time together but very little is ever referred to. And I feel like that is an integral part of a romance…to see the romance develop! Had this been longer we might have been privy to those missing scenes.
I did enjoy the scenes with Willow and Greta, our main’s sister’s. I’m hoping there will be a romance with those two sometime in the future.
If you don’t mind insta-lust you’ll probably enjoy this much more than I did. Also, there’s like a three-chapter long sex scene in the beginning of the book for those of you that enjoy the steam!
Good, light fun. The early (enjoyable!) spicy scene of the girls’ expected one-night stand leads to a sweet story of what it means to be in the right place at the right time… or not.
Audrey knows, on a subconscious level at least, she really likes Toni. But after just (that very day) getting out of a serious relationship and the betrayal by her partner, Audrey knows she doesn’t want Toni as a rebound. Cue *intense* chemistry and desperately trying to control themselves as both girls battle to respect the choice and the timing!
This is a cute rom-com that constantly asks will they or won’t they, or later on more a case of when will they! But Laura Henry is clever here as she teases the reader but making us really want each scene to develop the intensity all while we understand the right idea behind the decision to be professional and wait.
The prose rolls along nicely and you feel invested all the way through to the end. Add to that there is a very nice seeding and budding of a subplot involving both girls’… um, straight sisters. Enjoy that as they’re going to appear in a sequel story, I understand.
This isn’t perfect. Don’t be fooled by the subtitle. This is more cute and fun than laugh out loud, although there are some good lines. And as we enter the final act, one character’s actions might frustrate you a little, before we head for home.
About Last Night is wonderfully titled and has an absolutely nailed-on cover, which all adds to Laura Henry’s impressive debut. As long as you don’t expect to much more than it says on the tin (this is pitched correctly as light and fun), and you’ll likely fully enjoy this tale of forced proximity, lovers-to-friends-to-lovers fun tale.
Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️(3/5). Loved this book so much - way more than I expected to!
Plot: 📚📚📚📚 (4/5) I actually loved the plot. Audrey has just broken up with her cheating, toxic, and controlling girlfriend of four years when she ends up going home with Toni, someone she doesn’t really know but sees at the same club she occasionally visits. It’s a dual POV, which really delivers, allowing us to see the story from both Audrey and Toni’s perspectives.
What was supposed to be a one-night thing due to Audrey’s messy situation turns into something more as sparks fly and their paths cross in unexpected ways. Toni gets the chance to convince Audrey to reconsider. It’s a really nice and easy read, perfect for finishing in one sitting! The story is cute and heartwarming, though the ending felt a bit rushed. Still, it’s satisfying and doesn’t disappoint.
One note: the whole story revolves around Christmas time. I wish I’d read this in December rather than July to better fit the festive scenario. It could definitely be marketed as a holiday read.
Characters: 🤎🤎🤎🤎 (4/5) The characters are probably one of the things I look up the most when it comes to books, and oh my god they were so good!! Well-developed and multifaceted. I loved Audrey’s relationship with her identical twin, Willa. And Willa’s character is probably my second favourite, and how her storyline develops. I’m not gonna spoil anything but I LOOOOOVED how everything has unfolded for her. I also loved Greta’s character development (Greta is Toni’s sister), however, my absolute favorite character was the one and only Toni Danzig. How I loved the scene where Greta sings Tiny Dancer to her with the whole lyrics revisited. Toni reminded me of Delilah Green from the Bright Falls series in the best possible way, with a rough playboy exterior (red wine supernova, is that you?) masking a soft heart of gold who just wants true love. A real golden retriever. As mentioned the character development is solid, especially for Greta and Willa, but every single character is really good (even Shae although you can do nothing but hate her, she’s been portrayed in all her toxicity oh so well.)
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 🌶️ (3.5/5) This book definitely brings the heat! It’s not a slow burn, which I appreciate since slow-burn romances can sometimes be frustrating. The author understood the assignment—by page 20, the spice kicks in with detailed scenes. The queer representation is wonderful. Heterosexual smutty scenes can become monotonous, but this book offers a fresh take, showcasing different facets of sex, including the awkward parts that are often avoided. It felt real and provided good representation, despite some cringy writing choices. When smutty scenes make you blush on the train, you know they’re well done!
I was unsure after reading other reviews! However! I adored this book! I found some of the wording a little cringeworthy but ultimately I found myself finishing this book in three and a half hours! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I I found the FMC Audrey’s initial relationship breakup very relatable, however I did not enjoy the third act breakup with the second FMC Toni but when when the story ended, I found myself needing more closure on the two side characters Greta and Willa. But overall I enjoyed the story, found that the spicy scenes were not too much and it navigated a decent storyline while exploring other plots and avenues, I feel there are unanswered relationships and questions throughout the book with the author leaving it open for a sequel, which I am here for (and secretly hoping for).
Thankyou bookouture and netgalley for a review copy!
First of all, thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for giving me an ARC, I’m really grateful ❤️
I don’t know where to start, this book was by far one of the best romcoms I’ve read! I couldn’t stop reading, I literally devoured the whole story!! There were some really really spicy scenes (tho in the end one scene was skipped, sadly) and I totally fell in love with Toni, oh my 😮💨😮💨
“But if Toni offered to take me into the backcountry and build me a cabin and live off the grid, I might just throw everything away and go.”
The book actually starts with smut, like I expected after reading the blurb, and I just loved the communication and consent in this scene! They even talk about safety.
“I have dams, too. If you’d like to use them.”
The dynamic between the main characters was so intense, I could literally feel the electricity while reading the book! The whole damn time I waited for them to have their happy end and it wasn’t easy getting there but eventually they did ❤️
“So, she’s not a post-sex snuggler. I guess she can’t be perfect.”
What I really loved about this book were the dialogues between the characters, I’ve laughed out loud and that quite a lot; it felt like real conversation between friends and sisters, always teasing each other. This made the drama easier to stand, cuz my heart was really broken for a few chapters. There’s almost nothing I could criticise, I really loved the whole book - but the drama was maybe a little bit too much & maaaybe there could’ve been at least one chapter more, for example with the next Christmas and the now happy couple.. The ending just felt so sudden and I wished there would’ve been a look into their future together and maybe into the future of their sisters as well 🫢 So pleaaase let there be a sequel soon 🥺
All in all this book is totally worth reading it, it’s the perfekt romcom! ❤️
This book starts with an epic break up and a night of steamy sex. Now if that doesn’t hook you into wanting to read it you should stay for the humour. I laughed out loud a couple of times. That’s not to say this book is perfect, what or who is? I didn’t like our mains lusting so much, I get it, but it got to be rather repetitive. And the reasons why they couldn’t? I mean… Anyway, the worst of it? The I-love-yous. I wish authors wouldn’t do it like this. I know I’m being by a little vague, but it’s by design. I definitely think this book is worth a read and I am not willing to spoil :)
It’s a light and fun read and I want the story about Greta and Willa!
I CAN’T EVEN, explain how much I loved this novel. Whatever you take away from this review, add several more points. This was (nearly) perfect! It was a quick read; I read the entire novel in one sitting, and in this instance, I mean it literally and not just “over the course of one day”. This was both because the novel is relatively short and because it was such a page turner that I couldn’t put it down. I laughed out loud (like actually) and it genuinely warmed my heart.
This novel did it all. Point form in an attempt to stop this from being an essay: -Spicy! And how. At the beginning I was “worried” that it was actually just spice and there wouldn’t be a plot, but thankfully I was WRONG, and the spice was just front-loaded. Everyone has different tastes when it comes to spicy scenes, and it turns out that this is a textbook example of mine. Who knew, because I didn’t. -Sweet and heartwarming! There were a lot of different character dynamics that the author explored and played around with. There were twin dynamics with fun near-telepathic communication. Family dynamics that were sweet and supportive, or more detached and subtle yet STILL also heartwarming. The romance had some SERIOUS chemistry! There was sibling support, and sibling rivalry. Long-held-under-the-surface-pride was uncovered and basked in. Don’t even get me started about the best-friend GOALS! -The characters themselves were simply amazing. There were a good number of notable characters and they all felt very real, detailed, and the author brought them to life. The dialogue felt like real people talking and no one was a 2d stand-in for the sake of filling in a scene. -Unexpected side romance -Sequel bait. I’m talking heavy-handed sequel bait. The type that I would usually be raging against except that somehow this author got me to walk away feeling happy about it? This is truly a first; normally I hate unresolved details or “to be continued” plotlines but they managed to make it work! I WILL be devouring the sequel as quickly as is humanly possible. -Did I mention it was awesomely spicy? Not just by volume, but by QUALITY. -There were more serious and heavy elements woven into the story too. Its not all fluff and spice! We got some serious and heavy emotions to help round out the emotional range of experience. Audrey’s past relationship was noteworthy in this category, as was the root of Toni’s insecurities. -The writing did a great job of hinting at a larger and more lived in world. I had so many questions about certain characters backstories or relationships. Somehow the author made this a good thing, where the world felt very real, instead of an annoying thing, where I could have felt like I was missing something. They are set up for about a dozen potential sequels or prequels. It was the perfect balance where, for the most part, I am satisfied if I never see more yet I’m craving these answers at the same time. Example: . -For the most part, the characters acted realistically like actual people. Nothing felt forced for the sake of plot. Nothing was pushed until it was a caricature of what is reasonable. -All of this taken together, and more, means that this novel felt very full. In the best way! This might be what made it such a compelling page-turner because there was so much content packed in. There was never a slow part, a lull, or any section that I had to push through. It could have been another 100 pages without adding any content, just detail, and the novel would have still worked and been great.
Ok complaints! Not much, but for the sake of completeness here we go. -The ending was too abrupt. It was the standard endpoint for a rom-com but I like to see more past this point and I know I’m not alone. I’m not holding it against the author too much though as they are promising we will see more of these characters in the sequel. If this is done as well as some other companion novels out there, then it should be plenty satisfying. -There were a few plotlines/subplots where I didn’t get the resolution I wanted. In some cases this was deliberate and once again, we are promised that we will get what we are looking for in the sequel (). So I can’t be too angry about that as long as the following novel delivers on that promise. There was also Audrey’s ex and the impact that relationship had on her. I feel like this wasn’t given enough time or attention for the issue to simply disappear.
Oh, I am so so sad about this one. The premise was great and the story started off pretty well but went downhill quickly. I think my biggest struggle was that it just felt a bit all over the place. Our main couple Audrey and Toni meet (though they've seen each other around), they have a one-night stand and a few days later realise that they're going to be working together.
Nice, fine, that's great - they agree to remain professional and pretend the one-night stand never happened, and they each have their sisters by their side to keep them focused and on track. But then they're suddenly all hanging out and all spending Christmas together at Toni's parent's house?? For no reason at all except that Toni and her sister felt bad that Audrey and her sister would be alone with just each other?? HOW IS THIS KEEPING IT PROFESSIONAL???
Of course the 'keep it professional' thing lasts all of 1 second and Toni and Audrey start hooking up, Audrey has just left an extremely emotionally abusive relationship (and is being stalked by said ex) so wants to keep it casual, to which Toni (who doesn't do relationships) readily agrees. Only 10 seconds later she's confessing her love to Audrey and saying she wants to grow old together - which naturally makes Audrey freak the fuck out and call it quits.
In the aftermath of this everyone (including her own sister) decides to treat Audrey like the villain for 'leading Toni on' even though they agreed MULTIPLE times to keep it casual. Her sister also decides to flip out on her for being selfish and too focused on herself.
And this just pissed me tf off, like YES being around people who are always focused on their own drama is tiring but we don't ever really get the impression from Audrey. It felt like her sister's blowup came out of nowhere since it happens in the chapter directly after the breakup chapter, there's been a time jump but since we didn't see any of that time we never see anything happen that would imply Audrey has been 'head in the clouds' or self-absorbed.
Toni is heartbroken and has been posting 900 different women on Instagram to make Audrey jealous, they see each other back at the office, and Toni basically invites Audrey to have a no-string-attached hook-up, they meet at a bar and use fake names (TONI USES HER BEST FRIENDS??? EW TF), they hook-up, Toni dips (literally leaves the country), Audrey Follows her there and confesses her love, they get together the end.
A whole bunch of YIKES, clearly a lot of other people loved this book but it just wasn't one for me.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgally for an arc in exchange for an honest review¬
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I devoured this book in one sitting! It was so good!! I loved that I was hooked within two pages. There wasn’t pages and pages of back story, it was just straight into it and I loved that!
I loved the chemistry between Toni and Audrey, I was smiling from ear to ear! All the characters were adorable (except for one). I particularly loved Willa, she was the best and their sibling bond was a highlight for me. In fact, all the relationships were really lovely and everyone had time for eachother and supported one another, it was just beautiful.
This was the best love story between two amazing women. Forced proximity written perfectly! I laughed a lot, I smiled constantly, I had a few tears and my heart is happy. Oh and it was pretty spicy too!
Thank you so much @netgalley and @bookouture for this early copy!
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this very enjoyable book
man oh man where to start with this one....
audrey adams is about to spectacularly dump her cheating girlfriend.... after 5 years of being with shea with an e with the help of her sister she is getting her stuff from their apartment and moving in with her twin sister but first she has to keep on an eye on shea so that she doesnt know what is happening but when audrey see her with someone else she makes up her mind to do it with the best dumping song ever
as the last note of i will survive rings out audrey leaves the bar and her girlfriend behind but when the dj turns up with her coat its all systems go for the attraction they both feel
toni the dj has always noticed audrey but man that song was hot the way audrey sang it but their night together was hotter...shame it was only for one night though....
but audrey and toni are destined to meet again sooner than both of them think
what a ride this book was.... i loved the innuendoes the laugh out loud moments but i enjoyed the all the drama and the angst between audrey toni and their sisters
i for one am looking forward to the next book in this sequel as i cant wait to see what happens between the two other sisters... and to see how audrey and toni are getting on
3.25 stars, this book is cute. I did have some issues with the general instalove and the long road to acceptance, but otherwise, a quick read. Others probably won't have the same hang-up. I'm hoping for a sequel with Greta and Willa.
The book is as promised a feel good rom com. I would have liked to have a little bit more depth on the big fight but besides that, the story keeps you engaged and the characters are well defined without being one-note. Want some light reading? This is a good one.
this could have done with like an extra 100 pages to actually flesh out the plot and the romance. i liked toni, tolerated audrey. and i genuinely said “is that it?” at the ending which speaks volumes of the satisfaction level of the ending. i think i could have loved this if it just had slightly moreeee.
I was also highkey more invested in Willa and Greta’s lives than the protagonists so…
It takes a lot of talent for an author to be able to destroy every single character within a couple of chapters. Toni was quickly become a very rare non-toxic lesbian book character before saying “fuck it! Let’s trample over every emotional boundary Aubrey has ever created!”
For anyone who thinks Aubrey is in the wrong - I hope both sides of your pillow are hot and you do some long overdue self reflection! While both characters have their flaws, Toni straight up turns toxic real quick.
I’m so glad About Last Night is marketed as a “feel-good” book because things have felt so heavy in the world and on my bookshelf lately. I reached for this *because* I wanted a respite for my frayed feelings. I’m so glad I did! It hit all the beats of the traditional rom-coms I grew up loving. The whole thing was a fun, light-hearted romp. Sexy, fun, so very queer, with a surprising subplot I hope becomes its own book. Plus a grand gesture at the end the made me giggle and swoon.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book and provide an honest review.
First, i want to thank Bookouture for letting me read the ARC to this amazing book!
"My entire body lights up with joy at the sight of her, those sparkling blue eyes, the flyaway hair that can never be tamed by her braid, the curve of her full bottom lip. And then she smiles at me, open and unreserved and full of happiness, like she used to every time she saw me, and I am bowled over with an absolute certainty. I am in love with Toni Danzig."
I rated this book 4.5 stars
Within the first 17 (SEVENTEEN!!!!!) pages I was hooked. I was immediately invested in both of the characters’ lives and stories. Their tension was great from the start and it only got better!
What I liked: 1. The Tension The author managed to start the novel with an insane amount of tension between the characters, which is why I was afraid to continue. But the level of tension was held that high throughout the entire novel, making it impossible to put the book down! 2. The Spice From the blurb I already expected the novel to start of with a spicy scene, and I was not disappointed! However, I was surprised that the scene was that good! They even talked about consent!!! 3. The execution of the premise This might seem like a weird thing to mention, but it was really important to me. When I started this one, I was afraid that the premise would be executed poorly and that the characters would just act immaturely about the whole situation. But I was proven wrong! 4. ANTONIA DANZIG!!!!!! I just love her. Thats it. 5. The Supporting Characters Every character in this book seemed thoughtout, with their own struggles, personalities and flaws. I hope we will get the chance to read about them soon!
What I did not like: 1. The Pacing The story felt the tiniest bit rushed, but it was still great and made sense. 2. The Ending The ending was too sudden. The scene did not feel as emotional as I had expected it to be.
In the end I would say that this book did exactly what it promised to do! It was a fun, quick, spicy read. If you go into it expecting anything more, you are not going to get it. But that is totally fine! It was a fun read and I am definitely going to read every future book by this author! (Hopefully about the sisters…)
i obviously liked some (many?) aspects of this book since i gave it 3 stars but i also disliked a few. it’s a small detail but i hated how often i was reminded that toni was a “dirtbag”😭 but anyways
the tension in this one was GREAT, the forced proximity trope worked so well for them!!! and i loved how bold both toni and audrey were, they didn’t hesitate to tell each other how they felt and that’s something i always appreciate. overall they were just SO down bad for each other it was so cute.
but then it all went downhill and they both hurt each other a lot and i get that they were willing to forgive each other in the end but i just couldn’t see their couple working on the long term? idk.
i also need to take a moment to appreciate willa. willa, willa, willa. she was so so sweet. her and greta? fucking adorable, i absolutely cannot wait to read their sequel. i wanna know what happened between them while audrey was too busy hooking up with toni to even notice that anything was going on between their (supposedly straight!!!) sisters😔 also, her apartment sounds SO beautiful omg. her taste in décor made me love her even more.

One thing about me is if there is a lesbian romance book I am going to find a way to get my hands on it and read it as fast as I can.
I think I liked this book so much because the characters are so relatable:
Audrey is strong-willed and a boss bitch that just left a toxic relationship. Willa is a soft-spoken ride-or-die with no love life. Toni is a nature-loving DJ dirtbag who's afraid of letting her family down. Greta is a stone-faced businesswoman who has walls up to keep people out.
The only gripe I had with this book was how Audrey handled a very important conversation with Toni (word of advice to literally anyone, )
Other than that, this book has some of the top romance tropes you could wish for - one bed, workplace romance, strangers-to-friends-to-lovers (okay, maybe I made that one up but you know where I'm going with it.)
I really enjoyed this book! There was so much chemistry between Toni and Audrey and their flirtatious relationship kept me reading more! This book wastes no time getting into the spicy stuff! I loved the way the story flowed and how the characters all interacted. Queer books for me can be hit or miss because sometimes there can be a lack of chemistry written and they just feel like friends, but that was definitely not the case here! Every page oozed with togetherness.
The only thing I did not like was some of the writing came across as a little cringy, just wording here and there. I also really liked Audrey’s character at first but her indecisiveness and toying of Toni’s feelings towards the end of the book was really awful and made me think less of her. I’m glad she got it together by the very end but I almost wish there was more pushback from Toni and the heartbreak she had to go through.
Thank you so much to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC!
I’d give this star 2.5 stars, rounded to 3/5. This was honestly a super disappointing read. Based on the description, I expected a funny, flirty read filled with tension and banter. What I read felt shallow, rushed, & utterly lacking in chemistry. The characters were one-dimensional, and had no lives or individuality outside of the main romantic plot line. Even the side characters couldn’t have their own storylines without being directly tied to the main couple. The dialogue and insta-love trope felt awkward and forced, and the conflict/resolution felt outlandish and rushed. I wanted to really enjoy the characters, as there were some aspects I liked about each of the characters as well as the sister relationships, but unfortunately none of them felt developed enough for me to really become attached or invested. It was a short and fast read, but wasn’t one I’d recommend personally. Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This book was so much fun, it was spicy, it had me laughing out loud , not just a loud nose exhale, it had miscommunication, but also really good communication, wonderful sisterly bonds, takes place in the amazing Colorado, and it was WLW. AMAZING
Audrey-a put together, business consultant, BAMF, amazing singer, wine connoisseur
Toni- a fucking hot granola gay, who has an amazing business venture for their family company, and jumps off cliffs
Willa- Audrey's twin, comedian, plant mom, baby bi
Greta Toni's older sister, possible baby bi, ice queen, prankster
Greta and Toni hire a business team to help grow their families multi-million dollar business. Of course they chose Audrey who unknowingly hooked up with Toni and had a God honest religious moment (get it lol) two days before. How will they survive the next 6 months? Idk (well I mean I do know, but you should find out)
Honestly a really great way to start off my holiday reading (I didn't even realize it was going to be Christmas centric, but I sure am glad for it)
I wasn’t caught by this book and struggled to have much of anything to say, because I didn’t see much in this book to talk about. It’s fast, at under 300 pages; weeks pass between chapters with no comment; and the book has no time to spend on connecting scenes, instead jumping from important conversation to sex scene to important conversation. The dialogue is lifeless and flat. It’s not exactly bad, but there’s no sparkle to it, like it’s been polished so assiduously that any personality, charm, or humor was taken away. The characters all say the right thing at the right time to advance the plot, but there’s so little character development or growth.
Sometimes I struggle to stay hooked into a book and finish it hence the weeks it’s taken me to finish 😂 but I can say that this book pulled at my heart strings for various reasons. Laura Henry perfectly captures the real , unfiltered and authentic moments between two people that want each other but have been hurt from the past. The “will they” or “won’t they” captures a truthful representation of what it’s like to navigate a relationship for people who are healing. Having both point of views works really well in understanding the different sides of two people trying to communicate and understand each other. There is also really nice moments in the book that highlight the journey of discovering one’s own identity. Laura Henry creates a safe space for inclusivity and doesn’t sugar coat how it is but instead provides a realness to a love story.
