"There Were Ten in the Bed," by Annie Kubler is an engaging nursery rhyme which teaches subtraction and counting. Each time you turn the page, another kid falls off the bed, and you get to push the notch to make them slide down. It is interactive, can be read to a tune, and the illustrations are delightful. In the classroom this would be a great book to use in a lesson on counting or subtraction. One could expand on the ideas in this book: "What if TWO of the kids fell off? How many would be left then?" A musical chairs game could be played to the tune of this book in which students are split into groups of ten and each time the teacher says "...one fell out!" a chair is taken away.
This is by far the best version of the rhyme/song that I've seen in a book format. Its jolly illustrations and interactive dial make it a tactile and hopefully tuneful approach to teaching maths (subtraction) in an oblique way, as a child gets booted out of bed in each verse.
A perfect group read for foundation and year one children.
This book is a nice adaptation of the children's songs and helps to teach numbers and basic subtraction as the children tumble from bed. The dial in the book helps to make the book interactive for the child and can be used even with small children.
This book is about ten kids in one bed, that keep rolling over until there is one left in the bed. this book is simple, and should be for kindergartners. I gave this a four star rating due to its catchy tune.
