exceptionally well-written. as someone with practically zero background in linguistics, I was never even slightly confused by Neacsu's explanations. he truly has a gift for identifying the most pertinent aspect of a concept and providing several relevant examples. my favorite chapter was Chapter 6: Verb Phrase. nearly every problem he presents is rigorous and clean; among over a hundred problems, there were only about five that I couldn't make progress on. my one complaint would be that he doesn't provide more explanations in the solutions. highly recommend, even to those not participating in a linguistics olympiad.
Well written and explained guide for student's interested in linguistics olympiads and Christmas competition. It teaches how to approach problems in clear fashion and doesn't overwhelm the reader with scientific terms, although teaches them through the book. Problem sets in the book are a great asset which in itself serves as a great preparation before sitting an exam.
