Even at age 16, Malcolm Huntington knew his childhood best friend, Lila Chen, was his end game. So making a pact to marry his first and only love when he turned 30 was the easiest promise to keep.
Except for Lila, the pact was easy to make and just as easy to forget, believing her best friend could never let her down. She just didn't expect life to distract her with a penchant for solving crimes and falling for someone who wasn't Malcolm.
Despite drifting apart over the years, Malcolm kept an eye on Lila from the background until surprising circumstances pushes him toward her side once again. Even with his heart on the line, Malcolm won't hesitate to fight for her and show her the love she deserves.
Sara McClaflin writes romance with feelings, flaws, and just the right amount of emotional damage. Her stories are character-driven, morally gray, and often ask one very important question: what if love was a little dangerous—and we liked it that way? After years of reading and reviewing books with too much angst, she finally started writing her own.
She lives on the West Coast with her husband, their chaotic dog, and more book boyfriends than she’s willing to admit. Her TBR pile is a cry for help, her playlists are 80% heartbreak, and she’s always chasing the next character who’ll ruin her in the best way.
Love, Love, Love this book!! This is the 2nd book in the Huntington Brothers series…Malcolm and Lila’s story. This book doesn’t start out as you may think though. Lila is with Thad. From the beginning, I didn’t have a good feeling about Thad, and neither did Malcolm. Everyone could see that Thad was no good, everyone but Lila that is. Lila finally comes to her senses and leaves Thad, but Thad is not done with her. While Malcolm and Lila are together, Thad ensures that Lila knows that she belongs to him. Thad becomes Lila’s stalker.
This book had me up late at night reading chapter after chapter. You can see how much Sara - the author - grows as a writer in this book. This book does end on somewhat of a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read book 3!!
Compared to the story of Miles and Destiny, I think this has a lot of character development. I like how the friendship expands but the bond deepens. The descriptions are engaging and the story has been built well with a lot of twists and turns. This book deals with a lot of sensitive themes such as abuse, assault and stalking. The lead to the sequel is unexpected but intriguing. Do read Tangled Hearts to know the story of the most charming brother of the Huntington’s.
Tangled Hearts is book 2 in the Huntington Brother's series. I would recommend adding this book to your TBR. It is such a great read. I really liked book 1 but this book is better IMO. I love the storyline, and the character development. The book held my attention, but also made me want more! I am so excited to read other books from this author!!
Great follow-up to Destined for Love where we met and fell in love with Miles and Destiney. This book gives us a in depth look at Malcolm and Lila and their group of loyal friends. It has great character development and twists and turns along the way that keep us on the edge of our seats all the way until the last chapter and the Epilogue that has us wanting more. Highly recommend this book.
I was truly fortunate to be given the opportunity to read "Tangled Hearts," the second book in the captivating Huntington Brothers series, from the talented author Sara Mcclaffin. The love story of Malcolm and Lila completely captivated me from start to finish. The prologue served as a beautiful and evocative entry point into the narrative, projecting us into the future, which I found to be enthralling and filled with anticipation. The use of dual points of view added a layer of depth to the narrative that allowed me to fully immerse myself in the character's experiences. It was especially compelling to witness Malcolm's unwavering love for Lila unfold through his own perspective and the way in which Lila's complex emotions, particularly her feelings towards Thad, were depicted left me feeling deeply conflicted in the most engaging way. In particular, Lila's words, "Don't make promises you don't intend to keep," beautifully showcased her pure-hearted nature and added a layer of emotional richness to the story that I found to be truly moving.
Malcolm and Lila - Lovely, tortured, hurting - they have so much to learn, but so much of this, they can learn together. Can they overcome their pain to go from friends to lovers??
Their relationship is like wisps of cotton candy carefully woven throughout the story as Lila and Malcolm work to better themselves while trying to be there for each other. In tough times, they each start to truly realize how many people they have around them as well. The found family element is paramount in this story and I am so here for it. The entire group is so supportive and loving to one another. I kept thinking while reading that I would love to be adopted by their friend group!!!
In this journey, some characters go through pain and hurt that may be sensitive to some readers. Please read the content warnings in the front of the book to make sure this is the right fit for you.
This story is book 2 of ‘The Huntington Brothers’ and can be read as a standalone. ‘Tangled Hearts’ is a beautiful love story that I am so glad I read. I'm so excited to devour the next installment!!!
3.5/5⭐️ Malcolm and Lila are childhood friends, but since he was 16, Malcolm has always known that Lila is the one for him. They make a pact to marry each other at 30 if they are both still single.
Years pass and Lila is now with Thad. Unfortunately, Thad is not whom she thought he was. When Lila finally realises that Malcolm is the one, many obstacles still remain in their way.
Can their friendship and love bring them through the many challenges? Or will one incident tear them apart?
While the first half was a bit slow in pacing, things pick up and become more interesting once Lila and Malcolm are together especially the last bit with all the suspense thrown in. My favourite part though is when Malcolm gives Lila a special gift which represents cherished memories from their childhood days.
Tangled Hearts - Sara McClaflin is a wonderful but heart heavy romance. Lilac experiences alot, from childhood until present. She's been through so much in her life, but always finds a way out. Her partner at the beginning of the story is abusive and controlling, however her childhood best friend is the polar opposite who worships the ground she walks on and does everything in his power to protect her from the monster that is her ex. Some parts had me laughing, others had me crying, and some had my heart beating incredibly fast due to the nature of what was happening between the characters. This story has some absolutely gut wretching moments that really tugs at your heart strings.
⭐4/5
⭐"Malcolm loved her more than anything, more than any best friend ever should. She was his everything, his sun and stars, the very reason his world continued to turn."⭐
There are so many things I loved about this book! The characters are strong, family dynamics (good ones and bad ones) are fascinating, the friend support is awesome, sweet romance, great adrenalin rush at the end and new life! Loved this story and all its depth!
