From the Best-Selling AnthologyHorses, Hounds & Happily Ever After
As Miss Charles Trimble nears spinsterhood her mother hosts a house party. Determined to find her a match, Charlene begs her dear friend, Willard Huntsly, to assist in selecting a spouse. Through a little prodding from her brother and her cat, Charlene soon realizes her ideal match might be the man standing beside her.
Chalon Linton is an air force spouse, a mother of four, and a fan of all things romance. Jane Austen has long been a favorite because who can resist handsome men in tailcoats? Manners, wit, and true love, combined with a faith in God, guide her stories to a happily ever after. She has met friends from around the globe and is grateful for each experience that adds to her own faith in the goodness of people. Chalon currently lives with her handsome husband in Southern California.
I totally fell for Willard myself reading this story. His dreams have been crushed and he feels like there is no future for him with the one he loves. The checkered past he stumbled into clouds his future. Charlene wants one man, her best friend who disappeared from her life. Now that her parents are pushing her to marry she thinks she will never have him. So she will settle for someone else. Willards reappearance shakes up her life, the party, and the future she thought she had to settle for. The book is short and sweet. Great for an evening read. Rating: G, clean, sweet romance
Waiting for Willard A SADDLES & SCOUNDRELS NOVELLA by: Chalon Linton
I give this novella 4.5 stars!
“I simply did not wish to know. I refuse to put on airs or act anything other than myself.”
As the delightful and kind hearted Miss Charlene Trimble nears “spinsterhood” her mother hosts a house party. Determined to find her a match, Charlene deserves to be respected for who she is. She is delighted when her dear friend, Willard Huntsly, comes unexpectly to this party. She asks him to assist in selecting a spouse. Through a little prodding from her older brother and her cat, Charlene soon realizes her ideal match might be the man standing beside her…
“You stole my heart long ago. It will never belong to another.”
This is a short but delightful story. It is filled with endearing characters, delightful honor, some drama, and fun cat antics. I liked how both Charlene and Willard had dear dreams on their hearts. Seeing how Willard felt like his own dreams had been crushed and robbed by his own family was so tender. He simply didn’t think there could ever be a possible future with the one that he has always loved. But When he comes to visit after being away for three years, his appearance does more than just shake up the house party and the future of settling down. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how Willard recognized that home is more than your roots, and the importance of surrounding yourself with those that love and respect you for who you really are, and who have your best interest at heart, whether they are related by blood or not. I loved seeing Charlene ask him Willard to help her, while giving a diligent effort to not change who she is. Seeing who she does choose out of all the men, that recognizes her admirable qualities was wonderful! While it may be a quick read, it is worth reading this sweet tale!
“My heart is full, and I feel whole because of you.”
Romance, sweet, period, novella Charlene and Willard’s story told from alternating points of view was a lovely read. They had a past friendship and attraction that was put aside due to a scandal in Willard’s past that Charlene wasn’t aware of. Told from alternating points of view, two honest hearts that were sincere in their devotion to each other over time and distance made for a lovely read. Character, kindness, sincere devotion, care and love made for a lovely read.
Perfectly precious and refreshing! The sweetest little story and just the light, happy read I needed right now💕 I loved how loving and supportive Charlene’s family was to our couple and how devoted Willard was to Charlene. Such a tender and charming tale!
