It’s been a while so let’s do a quick recap. Three girls breakout of what is assumed is a dangerous cult. Pandora, Raven, and Princess. In search of a sister that went missing, Erin. They find themselves in Atlanta where Pandora essentially finds out it's a possibility that her mother that raised her is actually not her real Mom and she has a twin named Serai.
With the help of a irate Detective, Khalin Jones, and his best friend who is as chill and sweet as he wants to be, Desmond Grant. Not to mention, Khalin is also trying to find his Mom or at least her story on her giving birth to him behind the walls of this cu––community. These girls are taken on a mini venture around Atlanta for the weekend before all hell breaks loose. They meet our dear girl Stacie Newman who has 3 husbands. Raven’s Mom comes out to Atlanta in search of her daughter and literally drags her back to the cult––I mean community.
4.5/5 - This series is just brilliant!!! There wasn’t a dull moment from start to finish and I NEED a third book asap! These characters feel SO real and I can’t get enough of them. - I don’t know what’s better, the storyline or the characters?! I love how unique the story is because it kept me guessing the whole book! - If you’re in a book slump, this would be a great series to pick up because you’ll be so immersed in the story that you won’t feel like you’re reading!
If there was ever an authors mind that I wanted to get lost in and roam about to witness their thought process, it would be Desiree! The way this woman’s mind works when developing and bringing a story to life is unmatched. Even nearly two years later, Desiree managed to capture the characters of The Perfect Sisters perfectly and bring us the next installment in such a way that would have you thinking she wrote them back to back!
If you read Perfect Sisters, then you know that cliffhanger was a doozy and I’ve been biting my nails in anticipation of what those under the guidance as well as those that would do anything to break free have been up to! Baby!!!!! 👏🏽 did 👏🏽 not 👏🏽 disappoint!!!
I was most excited for Raven’s follow up because babygirl had it the worst of the three and I was worried about her the most! Loved her and Desmond down! These two were destined and if my man ain’t pulling up how Desmond was, throw him away like the male born child that he is 😆
Pandora and Khalin y’all didn’t have to play in my face and stress me out the way that yall did! 😮💨 drama, drama drama!! Give me more!!!
Still enjoyed the dynamic of Stacie and the husbands! Their unique arrangement will forever be a vibe for me!
My Scouty pie lol how did you sneak up on us and steal 👏🏽 the 👏🏽show!! She definitely snatched the crown from Raven as my series favorite and is wearing it proudly! This fearless youngin from the Wilde faction came through and tore some ish up!!! Her and Smoke were a force and I just know this isn’t the end for them, it just can’t be!!
The ending was slight lackluster when compared to the suspense and build up of the rest of the story and it concluded with a closed ended cliffhanger! Maybe it’s the end, maybe it’s not! I pray it’s not because these character still have more to say and more to accomplish and I can’t wait to see what Desiree has in store for this group!
Desiree’s mind 🤯 I really love this series and this book left me on the edge of my seat! I was not ready for it to end! I need to know what happens with Pandora and Khalin!? Desiree, if you see them together in your mind - I’m here for it! Although their situation is…unique.
I had no idea the BWS were as powerful as they are! In the beginning, I was laughing at Scout because she was so tough about escaping the walls but she was the most afraid outside BUT I loved her in the end! She is courageous and a sister of her word #FreeScout
This book had a bit of a slow start for me. Possibly because it had been so long since I read the first book, either way once I got into it I was into it. This story is so different, I love that it's beyond anything I could make up in my mind. I also love how Desiree said predict the weather, but not the remainder of this story, because listen just when I thought things were going to go a certain way they absolutely did not lol.
I enjoyed the connection that brewed between Khalin and Pandora. This man was clearly out of his mind about her and had a hard time wrapping his brain around his feelings. I wish we would have got more of their story, because I honestly felt cheated that that wasn't resolved. However, it was nice to see him moving past his issues with his mother.
Desmond said he was all in about Raven, and his actions followed. He was a real rider and did what needed to be done. Nothing but respect for him, which idk I kind of side eyed him from the first book but he turned out to be a real one.
Mayor, she was a surprising addition. Desiree.... why you leave us hanging again. I have so many questions and who is this Dr.... really lawd. I need to know. I feel like she was so strong in who she was and by the end her confidence had taken a beating, I would love to know what the future is for her.
Lastly, brave selfless Scout. She wanted to make sure the truth was uncovered and that she helped set free those that she could. The ending was shocking, but also anti-climatic. I would have appreciated a note that this was a cliff hanger.
All of that aside, Desiree is one of the most creative authors I have read. She pushes boundaries of what you find acceptable. She introduces a whole new world and I really appreciate that about her writing. In an age where some of these books are so similar, she gives us innovative writing and thinking.
I loved, loved this series! I want more because there are some ends still loose. Imagining these women exploring life outside the walls was literally hilarious. The involvement of the Newman family was a nice bonus! So good!!
This book was good but left me with a lot of unanswered questions.. it kinda dragged a bit too, I feel like it could have ended earlier than it did, especially since we weren’t left with much answers in the end. Khalin and Pandora’s love story was a little cringe for me, but I still would have like to know how they ended up. Same with Mayor, she was in the brink of evolution and I would’ve like to read more about that. And who is Dr. Parrish?! I wish that was revealed. I like Stacie but I think her and her husbands took up a little too much of the storyline, and now learning the got a spin off, it kinda feels like this book was world building for them. Scout was my fav, a revolutionary woman who made a huge sacrifice, but I really didn’t like how things ended for her. Also, I was highly disappointed at how Princess just completely disappeared from the story altogether!! As I was reading this book, I kept thinking she was going to return, that maybe Pandora or Raven, who she broke out with, would at least wonder what happened but nothing. They didn’t even bother to look for her or seem concerned. This book had too many loose ends for me which made the ending sort of lackluster. But overall, I enjoyed— it was entertaining, I love the concept and idea of it all, and it was good enough that it kept me up at night past my bedtime lol
This installment continued with the same characters and added new ones. Raven's mom should have received more than Raven standing up to her. It doesn't make any sense to treat Raven the way that she did!
Stacie and her family. I have nothing but love for y'all and am sooo happy about their progressions! ❤️
Khalin, be happy with what you have and leave the rest alone. I want to say that I cried because of him, but in actuality, I cried because of his mom!! If there becomes another story then I am here for the ride. Especially seeing how this book took me through 3 emotions within the span of 2 pages at one point of reading!!
A stream of consciousness review: Got real weird and homophobic there at the end. The statement Andera and Khalid made about Stacie’s husbands was gross. Speaking of Khalin—they wanted that character to be redeemable but gave him no redeemable qualities. He was the worst. He and Pandoras relationship was not at all fleshed out imo. It’s C. Scout Wilde hive forever—-that’s my mf’n girl. Speaking of which where the fuck is Princess???? Way too many characters and points of view…so distracting and unnecessary. So many of the characters get no real development and we miss out on so much story and important relationship dynamics, by jumping around and completely ignoring certain story arcs. Wtf happened in the end? So much left on the cutting room floor and the ending felt stilted. In the end this entire story hinges on women being in relationships with men. I was initially unclear about what the author was trying to say about gender and sexism, but after finishing the second book I realize this is just a heteronormative exploration of Black gender dynamics that is ultimately championing the same patriarchal beliefs most of us are familiar with. Disappointing, but these books were def fun to read. Wish the concept could have been tackled with more nuance and stronger writing.
The suspense. This book wasn’t like anything I usually read, but it was a much needed read that kept getting better and better. @authordesiree writing is like watch your fav tv series that you can’t get enough of. This story, the imagination and research, the writing is amazing. This story is a mixture of Handmaids Tale and Divergent but BLACK and BETTER.
Favorite characters: -Scout #freeScout By any means necessary
-Desmond It’s something about these men name Desmond for me
When I tell yall… Something happens in EVERY CHAPTER 👀….. to the point you CANT stop reading once you start, because you HAVE to know what happens next 😩😩, you MUST HAVE ANSWERS!
But get this… you don’t want the answers for yourself… the way it’s written… YOU HAVE THE ANSWERS… you’re just holding your breath…waiting for the Characters to figure it out…. AND WHEN THEY DO 😩😩😩😩‼️‼️‼️‼️
There was MANY TIMES during this book my mouth was hanging open. 😨😨 Many Times I laughed OUT LOUD / doubled over cracking up 🤣🤣And damnit… I ACTUALLY CRIED 😢🥲 TEARS RAN DOWN MY FACE 😩😩 for multiple reasons. Happy/Sad/Angry BEYOND BELIEF 🤬🤬‼️ The emotions in this book are Endless ‼️
(( I’m still HOT at Khalin for how he acted at Stacie’s Party 🤬 OMG ))
The ending is a bit long… but needed. You get all your answers and all your closure 🫶🏾. And not everything ends “Happy” but you’re definitely not Sad ☺️☺️. And to answer the Authors question at the end I WOULD LOVE A SPIN OFF of the “couples” 👀🙌🏾‼️
🗣️ THESE BOOKS DESERVE A MOVIE 🎥 ‼️‼️ And Desiree deserves ALL THE FLOWERS 💐 🙌🏾
4.5 ⭐️ Which could have been 5 stars if I wasn’t left hanging in the end. This was nerve wrecking and brilliant to say the least. If there is a third Perfect Sister, I will be there. There was moments with Raven and Desmond, and a Pandora and Khalin, that I’m glad unfurled, but yet again, I NEED more!
there is so much to unpack but just know, this is how you follow up when writing a second book in a series. no disappoint, not every character is likable but fits just right, and no dull moment as events continued to unfold nonstop.
I really want more. I loved this entire series, but I want more. I want to know what happened with Smoke.....and the rest of them. There are so many unanswered questions. So many things that I want to know. So many lives hanging in the balance. Please write The Perfect Sister 3. I feel so incomplete 🥺
I love this story. The ending was so disappointing. I was hoping for more. It felt a little rushed and there were so many grammatical errors but I’m not a huge stickler about it.
I know some people don’t like this in books but I love how black this story is. Like just a casual day in Atlanta. Deuce being an auntie took me out! This book was cool but not her best. I’m used to the chaos of it all but I wish we kind of saw the prep work for the escape. It’s like time moved on and we didn’t see the underworkings of anything, just the major parts of the story. Knowing that this is the last book, the story felt incomplete and unresolved.
Wayyyyyy better than book 1. Im so glad this one was rooted in action and not all the back and forth from book 1. The only people is I wanted the cop and pandora to end up Together. It kinna felt weird in the end with them not together lol. But overall bravo this was really good
This is the series that introduced me to Desiree and this is the series I will think about FOREVER. I started reading book 1 last sunday, I finished Book 2 Friday night (last night) and when I tell you EVERY SINGLE night I have gone to bed so engulfed in these books that my dreams transported me to Middleton, GA.
Now particularly with Book 2, because the foundation had already been laid in book 1, I will say that this one was not as much as a page turner for me. I felt like Stacie (who honestly is still pretty weird to me) and her brother-husbands took up too much of the book with things I didn't care about (especially knowing they get their own spin off) and the introduction of all these moving characters kind of bogged down the story line.
What I'm learning is that the BWS universe is expansive, covering not only the girls from inside the compound but also books on The Brotherhood and apparently whoever this Frank Godfrey gangster is.
After doing a little research, I think these books started as Kindle Vella episodes, which explains the super short chapters (which I love) and the range to add in so many supporting characters.
I would definitely read a Book 3, if one is coming because I feel like so much is still left on the table with Khalin and Pandora (although, like Desiree, I'm still on the fence about their fate).
I found myself more intrigued by Raven's trajectory at the end of Book 2... especially pertaining to Teresa Cromwell.
I'm glad I was able to go straight from Book 1 into Book 2. I don't know if I'll be reading "The Brotherhood" none of brother-husbands did it for me... (not even because it was a harem... but because their personalities vs. Stacie's treatment of them just didn't add up a lot of times, even if I saw the irony that was meant to be showcased) but I'll definitely be visiting "The Truth About The Godfreys" soon.
Okay so will there be a part 3 because we were left hanging? Good book but we need we need more info. What happened to Khalin & Pandora? What’s going on with Scout? What is going on with Dr. Parrish & Mayor, like did he reveal to her who he is? Too many unanswered questions. Cannot leave us hanging like this!
The second part of this series was extremely slow! We could have wrapped up the book 100 pages earlier. I was interested in the play out of the characters, however… There was too much back-and-forth between characters that became narrators that did not need to have their own chapter. As they were seen as side characters. It took away from the impact the main characters had on the reader.
So, yeah… the book jumped in fast. From the very beginning, something was happening nonstop—drama, tension, and all the behind-the-walls secrets of the Black Women Separatists. It wastes no time introducing Scout (well, Captain Scout), and I loved getting to know her. Her whole drive to help her sisters escape was so admirable. She wasn’t just focused on herself; she really wanted the other girls to see the truth about the BWS instead of living off lies from the council.
What really got me was when I realized she had never actually been outside the walls before. The way she spoke so confidently about the plan, I just knew she’d been out there before. Nope. She fooled me. When she finally stepped out and was scared, I was like, wow—she’s brave for real.
Desiree Granger really took us through it. There was always something going on. Pandora and Khalin’s dynamic kept me guessing the whole time. I wasn’t sure if they were going to end up together or not, and the author definitely leaves that on a cliffhanger. And their situation is… complicated. Celeste is Khalin’s biological mother, but she was also Pandora’s assigned mother behind the walls. So they’re not siblings, but the connection is still weird. I do still want them together, though—they balance each other out so well. And Khalin isn’t nearly as angry now that he knows the truth about his mom and actually gets to know her.
Raven and Desmond? Loved them. Raven’s a little firecracker—just like her red hair. It was awful how her assigned mother treated her behind the walls, so I was really happy she got her own little happy ending when she met Desmond. But it definitely made me think: all these girls escaping the BWS… did they all just fall for the first man they met? Like, is it real love, or is it just the shock of meeting someone who’s nothing like what they were taught? The BWS filled their heads with all this stuff about men being violent, abusive, and dangerous, and then they get outside and meet normal, decent guys. So part of me is like… do y’all really love these dudes, or is this just first contact energy? I’m curious what the author was going for there.
And then there’s Stacy with her three husbands. I wasn’t expecting that at all. I’m low-key wondering if the author has a whole other book just about her, because I need answers. Especially after Khalin questioned if the husbands are also sleeping with each other—I need to know too! Her faction was wild: still BWS, but outside the walls they actually live with men, though the men basically bow to them. They walk behind them, don’t look the women in the eyes, none of that. The women are the leaders, period. I want more on that whole situation.
All in all, Granger never misses. Her books stay action-packed, and I don’t know how she comes up with all these scenarios, if life didn’t get in the way I would’ve tore through this one in two or three days.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Why didn’t anyone tell me this book was going to make me cry 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yaalllllllllllll!!!!!
So boom, we pick up where we left off with Raven’s mean azz mama being her old abusive self, and we find out Raven has a surprise.
Pandora and Princess are back behind the walls too, but Pandora just ain’t with it. Her mama trying to get her in line and to act right, but Pandora like naw bih, I’m out ✌🏾😂
This time we have Scout (our “Wilde” child), Mayor (the Warden) and my girl Pandora back on these ATL streets and refusing to go back.
This was such an emotional roller coaster. So much came out. Love really wins on this one, and I was just in here rocking back and forth and whiping my tears as it all unfolded.
Pandora’s outside the walls mama 🙄. Like really sis?
Mayor’s story broke my heart. 😩 I just wanted to hug her.
But wait… let’s get into Stacie, Alpha, Omega and Deuce. I mean, why only have one when you can have three?😂
I really hope there is a part 3 because I’d love to know what comes of Mayor and Keith. That baby is damaged, and it seems like he might be too considering what we find out about him.
Scout and Smoke!!! They are supposed to be together. Lord be a way maker!
Raven and Desmond… I want to see them grow together for real.
Pandora and Khalin… give me MORE!!!!!
This was such an amazing and emotional read. My heart was pounding the entire time. The shade!!!! These people in power positions really be creeps! Take down the entire operation!
You want to read this. Trust me.
