Surge of Heat

Rate this book
Dragons exist. I’m one of them. And I’m not alone.

From the moment he shifted into a dragon, everything changed. Now, I’m torn between two men. One that my dragon has claimed. One that my heart has claimed.

I’ve tried to fight my animalistic needs, but it’s impossible. So, I stop fighting.

Except that it’s not that easy, a terrifying dragon wants me for his own. My guy best friends want to keep me safe. And he? He wants to keep me for his own.

SURGE OF HEAT is the second book in a very steamy paranormal reverse harem romance. This book has so much yummy goodness, but I don’t want to spoil it.

I love love love this series!! Sam has had a huge transformation in her life but one thing remains the same; the support of her best friends. However, things are evolving and becoming complicated on that front as well. We are learning so much about our characters and at such a fast pace! I do love Evander and how primal he is. The way female dragons have been treated is scary and sad so I’m very invested to see what happens moving forward. And omg the last part of the book - I’m dying for more!

Surge of Heat is the second book in Lacey Carter Anderson's Dragon Bonds series, and it was fire. Wow, this series is unique. They're dragon shifters, but they didn't know it because magic doesn't exist in this world. Seeing Sam and the guys navigate not only their new instincts but their relationships was entertaining.

Dragons are out, and everybody knows it. It's pure chaos, and Sam is standing directly in the middle of it. She's trying to navigate not only her new animal instincts but her feelings as well. She's found herself caught in a love triangle with two possessive guys who hate each other and won't move an inch. Talk about drama. It's a mess, and I don't like the fact that Ayden and Evander are both hiding their real feelings, plotting how to take the other one out. This is just the beginning stages of the harem forming, I can't for things to finally settle between them.

This world is totally unique because it's a world about science, not magic, yet dragons exist. We finally get into Spector Inc. because what other options does Sam have when she's being hunted? I found that I really enjoyed all the science Lacey incorporated into the story. The experiments, data collection, testing, and more. It added a new layer to the story while still being an urban fantasy. After reading the first book, I've been waiting for a few things to happen, and some of them did. I couldn't be happier. Now I'm just waiting on something that's been hinted at, and I'll be happy.

Surge of Heat was fantastic! I had so much fun reading it. There were a ton of great scenes, but what really got me was that last chapter. The entire chapter was a plot twist! The next book can't come soon enough.

Heaven help Sam when dealing with men with big egos. How she kept her sanity in the middle of all the posturing, sniping, and snarking, I’ll never know. However, the bigger question is how she managed to refrain from making them all disappear for getting on her last nerve. This book was off and running from the very first words. We learn lots of new things in this book; about Sam, the men in her life, and even the dragons in general. But that final scene? That has me positively gnashing my teeth in frustration that I can’t immediately start reading the next book to discover what that will mean for their future.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.

Surge of Heat is the second book in the Dragon's Bonds series. This cannot be read as a standalone and ends in a cliffhanger.

*Fated Mates
* Dragon Shifters
*Whychoose
*Spicy
*UF
*Academy/Institute
*childhood friends to lovers
*enemies to lovers
*Forced proximity

I was soooo waiting for this book and was not disappointed. Sam is my favorite, she's quirky and very likable. Normally, love triangles very low on my favorites list, but the fiery tension between Ayden and Evander has me grabbing my popcorn. I almost feel bad for Sam. There's plenty of spice, drama and action to keep you hooked. Can't wait for the next book!

Okay, so, huge bone to pick. I'm currently half way through and not sure I can finish now. How you gonna have a MMC have a tragic backstory, with a mom dying of cancer after living with an abusive father that tried to end him multiple times and her spirit/memory LITERALLY telling him not to die and all this, then in the next book rewrite it as he had loving but unrelatable parents who died in a car crash and rich grandparents that gave him a business when they died.

WHAT?!?!

Seriously?????? Why would you change the entire backstory for the character in book 2? Like we wouldn't notice???? And suddenly he's basically a trust funder/rich man out of nowhere?? Also an ENTIRE DIFFERENT LAST NAME???? Why did an editor not say "Hey, you changed a MC's entire backstory and name in the second book. That's not how that works"

I finished the book, and honestly? Still leaving this one at 1 star just for the entire character rewrite.

This book was definitely better than the first which doesn’t happen to often! More focused on the plot and developing dragon theories and the pack slowly. The dynamics are also slowly changing and that ending tells me we’re in for an even more evolving love story hehe. Can’t wait! Fun and spicy and full of dragons, what’s not to enjoy?

Hot dragon shifters you say? Yea please! Because seriously…Lacey Carter Andersen does not disappoint with the second nook in her Dragon Bonds series, Surge of Heat, because this one definitely turned it up a few notches and was filled with hot burning chemistry and all the delicious spice!

Sam is a newly awakened dragon who along with her best friends Ayden and Granger and the sexy but sometimes frustrating Evander, are on a mission. With so much tension, so many secrets and of course tons of new dragons on the scene this nook definitely brings all the action, suspense and hot steamy heat! I can’t wait for the next installment in this story so we can finally have all the answers of will they won’t they—oh and everything else going on too 😂

My word this series shows no signs of letting up on the fast paced action and brilliant plot twists!!!

Sam (FMC) finds herself in an impossible situation now being a female dragon (the only one as of right now) and with the Green Dragon determined to get his hands/claws on her. More closer to home she's stuck in a tug of war going on between Aydan & Evander. Some of the petty bickering was funny in parts and with Granger putting his own brand of humour into the mix I couldn't help but laugh. I really liked the whole dynamic the 3 of them brought to this 2nd book in this series.

Omg that cliff-hanger ending was a goody!! Bring on book 3 because I'm loving this series is much.

3.5 stars! Inconstancies..

I really wanted to give this book four stars, especially with this intriguing ending. However, I was really caught up with the inconsistencies of Evander’s backstory. In the previous book we were taken into his mind while he was locked in the freezer and glimpsed some of his past. However in this book, it seemed to entirely discount what we had learned about his history regarding his mother and father. I was under the impression his mother had cancer and his dad was abusive, but in this book he says both his parents died in a car accident and he went into foster care. Not really sure what to make of it…

Book 2 continues where book 1 left off. Sam and Evander are dragon mates and need to make their way to Spector Inc., but Sam won't leave with Granger and Ayden.

I'm really enjoying the world building of how the dragons have always been and how they are now reamerging from their hibernation. I feel like there is so much more we are going to find out - especially with the cliffhanger for this book! I really want to read book 3 now!

Other than the Spector Inc scientists researching and finding out information, the rest of this book is all about Ayden and Evander fighting over Sam, trying to one-up each other and always putting each other down. Sam spends her time either trying to separate them or smexy time (separately) with them. Rinse and repeat. I must admit, I got a little tired of the constant fighting between Ayden and Evander, but I'm hoping they find some common ground in book 3.

There is something going on with Granger in the background, and I really hope it leads to something more.

This series just keeps getting better and better! In Book 2, we pick up right where Book 1 left off, diving deeper into the fascinating lore of the dragons and their origins. Sam and Evander, now dragon mates, are on a mission to reach Spector Inc., but Sam is determined not to leave without Granger and Ayden, adding layers of complexity to their journey.

The dynamics between Ayden and Evander—both vying for a place in Sam's life—create an engaging tension that fuels the story. The interactions within this budding harem are fraught with challenges, and while the characters do grow significantly, it’s clear there are "growing pains" along the way.

One aspect that frustrated me was Sam's tendency to set boundaries only to ignore them moments later. I found myself wanting her to stand firm and assert herself more! The book concludes with a tantalizing cliffhanger, leaving me eagerly anticipating how this story will resolve.

Overall, I couldn’t put this book down! The mix of romance, tension, and character development makes it a must-read for fans of the series.

As always, my book reviews are completely voluntary, with no monetary compensation received, and the opinions expressed are entirely my own.

The story picks right up from “Surge of Fire”. Samantha aka Sam, Aydan, and Granger are lifelong friends, but then Sam is morphs into a dragon and then there is Evander he is a dragon. Sam has feelings for Aydan and has for most of their lives. However, there is pull with Evander that has to do with both of them being dragons. Aydan is jealous of Evander and Evander is jealous of Aydan as Sam loves them both and will not make a decision between them. Then to complicate matters Aydan morphs into a dragon. Both of them are very protective of Sam. There is a green dragon and he is trying to steal Sam. As the story progress there are many twists and turns and the information that the scientist at Specter Inc, that Evander owns are finding based on the test the run on Sam, Evander, and now Aydan. It looks like the green dragon is more intelligent than they realized, it looks like he has found another dragon to help him steal Sam. The complicated personalities of the characters, the steamy relations between Aydan and Evander and the plot twist and secrets along with which looks like a resurgent of the dragons. This series has me captivated and I can’t wait for the next book. Darn cliffhangers.

This second book really has me excited for the next one in the series. We finally get to see Sam and her friends make it to the military base and slowly unravel some secrets especially about Evander and I’m still not a big fan of his. I’m hoping to start killing him more in the next book but right now his only great quality is he keeps Sam safe from the green dragon. Then we finally have Sam meeting back up with Granger and Aydan. Again surprises unfold and I am excited to see how they play out for them. What really got me excited though was in the ending. I am super excited all the information we got in just that one chapter and I am excited to see how it plays out in our next book. This new character is going to be exciting to see how their role helps the group. The more I get into the story the more excited I am to learn more. Also Aydan and Evander need to work out their issues and fast. Their constant battle for the lead role is really starting to push Sam and I’m excited to see her put those two in their place.
I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, dragon shifters and everything from fast to slow burn. It has a little of everything.

Surge of Heat: Dragon Bonds Book 2 by Lacey Carter Andersen delivers an exhilarating journey into a fantasy romance that you won't want to miss. Be sure to read book 1 first, as this installment picks up right where the previous one left off. The green dragon is hot on Sam’s trail, but her dragon is drawn to Evander, while her heart yearns for someone entirely different. Can the men in her life put aside their differences to protect Sam from the awakened dragons that seek to claim her?

This book is undeniably spicy, featuring Sam’s struggle to choose between her best friend and her gray dragon. Packed with drama, the tension escalates as the men vying for Sam will go to any lengths to keep her safe — except play nice with each other. The world-building expands significantly as scientists delve deeper into dragon lore. This fast-paced, shifter why-choose tale is filled with action, and I found myself unable to put it down, finishing it in a single afternoon. The cliffhanger at the end has left me eagerly anticipating book 3!

If you crave paranormal shifter romances with friends to lovers dynamics, themes of found family, captivating scents, strong bonds, and plenty of spice, Surge of Heat is an absolute must-read.

So continuing from book 1, we have Sam hunkering down at a cabin in the woods with Evander. She isn't sure if she trusts him but her Dragon definitely feels the pull. Sam wants to find her best friends Aydan and Granger but Evander is reluctant to do this insisting they go straight to Specter Inc as he says Sam will be safe there especially as they are still under threat from the Green Dragon. There is lots of jealousy from Evander regarding Aydan as Sam admits there are feelings there so Evander keeps referring to him as the non boyfriend. I was expecting a cliffhanger ending but I expected it to be around Granger and it wasn't. It just came out of nowhere, it was something very unexpected!

I really enjoyed this book although I think Aydan and Evander need to be put in time out! Will they ever be able to put the measuring tapes away and get along for Sam's sake? There are signs that their dragons could but it seems to be a long way off for their human side! I thought Granger is such a sweetie but there are definitely a few tell-tale signs there that his feelings for Sam aren't totally platonic. I am REALLY looking forward to the next book now and if I am right about Granger it will be really interesting to see how Aydan reacts to that!

Oh boy… If you like a bit (or let’s say a lot) of tension between harem members you’re in for a treat with this one. Evander and Aydan have some very clear ideas about sharing the love of their lives, and it’s that they’re definitely not doing that. Actually, the only thing they both seem to agree on is that they just want her for their own. As a result, there is a lot of ‘appendage measuring’ happening and a lot of conflicts ending in hurt feelings and hurt body parts. You have to admire the way Granger navigates this dynamic, as Sam’s best friend (or is he?).

I think this is one of this author’s spiciest series, but even though I don’t always like that, it seems to work for this storyline and the characters. I’m quite curious to find out if this storyline will be completed in three books or if we will be getting a longer series. I personally wouldn’t complain if we get more books; I’m really enjoying this series and the dynamic between these characters. Some revelations at the end of this book create possibilities to make this dynamic even more explosive than it already is, so that’s definitely something to look forward to!

Interesting

So book two is here and things just got even crazier. I'm sure it's hard to imagine after the first book, but Surge of Heat just ramps up the danger Sam is in even more.

Dragons are waking up all over the world and they can seem to track her for a while. She meets up with Granger and Aydan after Evander is forced to attack the green dragon when he finds them again. She doesn't want to leave him, but their only hope of getting answers is by getting to Specter Inc, where Sam hopes Evander will find them.

A lot that happens in this second book. I don't want to spoil anything for readers, but I'll tell you that there are some really interesting surprises that happen with Sam and her little band of men. And Granger has won favorite status in this book. He is such a sweetie and I loved seeing him come out of his shell. Plus, there was a lot of struggling as Aydan and Evander kept butting heads. I think Sam just needs to lay down the law with the feuding twosome.

And they need to straighten out because something new is on its way.

In the next book, she needs lots of Granger cuddles. He deserves all the cuddles. Can't wait.

OMG – LOVEEEED this!!

Book 2 in the Dragon Bonds series was absolutely amazing. I loved the first book, but this second one really starts to amp up the action with everything that is going on with Samantha. It starts with Samantha and Evander who have cemented their bond, but she is still worried about her other two friends, Ayden and Granger. When the green dragon finds them, Evander tells her to go, and he will distract him away. She gets away, feeling horribly guilty, but convinces Ayden and Granger to head to the Specter Inc. building for help. Thankfully, Evander eventually shows up hurt but is ok. He and Ayden do NOT hit it off – both posturing for Samantha’s attention and time, especially now that she has found out that she had to be intimate to keep her scent from the green dragon – and Ayden wholeheartedly volunteered for the job.

Its really hard to write this review without giving away all that happened, but let’s just say that she has more than one mate, and I have a feeling by the end of the series, she will have at least 4!!!

This book was sooo crazy good, and I cant wait to see what happens next – like I’m dying to know right now.

Surge of Heat by Lacey Carter Andersen is book two in The Dragon Bonds series. I went into this book a little apprehensive as I had mixed feelings with the first one. But I found myself more engaged while reading this, I will mention you do need to read the first book before this one. As it does pick up directly after that. I must admit that I enjoyed the deep dive of lore about the dragons and the origins of them. The characters had more development and I was interested in their interactions. I will say the jealousy/fighting/possessive behavior between the interests did start to frustrate me a bit. I also find myself wishing that Sam would stand up for themselves more. I did enjoy the twists that were in this book as they were well placed and made sense. The writing I connected more with in this book and things were described well. I will mention that this book does end in a cliffhanger so I’m awaiting book three. I would recommend that you check out this series especially if you’re a dragon fan.

Lacey, Lacey, Lacey.....Why do you do this to me? In the last back we were introduced to the Wolf Pack that was Sam, Granger, and Aydan. Through an earthquake, they learned that dragons are real and Sam, herself is a dragon. We are also introduced to Evandar who also finds out he is a dragon and that insta-lust springs up resulting in flames happening inside the bedroom and outside. But where does that leave Aydan and Granger?

In this book we get some of the answers. And I swear to all that is holy, if Granger doesn't get the right happy ending in the third book, I will throw an epic temper tantrum. Because every cuddly golden retriever deserves happiness. And that man has been put in some awkward situations these past two books.

And can we talk about that ending???? No, of course, we can't because this is a review. Not book club hour. Ugh.

Spice: 3.5/5 (Dragon knotting, who knew?)

MFM-but not in that fun way, because Ayden and Evander are alpa-holes who can't look past their dragon..errrr

Triggers: Attempted assault, attempted kidnapping

Dragons are waking up, and Samantha as the only female dragon around is literally being hunted.
Situation around Sam, especially when it comes to the men in her vicinity, is also changing rapidly.
Secrets are surfacing. Fights are erupting.
Thank goodness for Granger's level-headed attitude.
Even though they are being scrutinized and learn a lot about what being a dragon means, Sam and her men are not safe - and run mostly on instincts. How will they fare against the green dragon?
I have to say I really enjoy the story, but I cannot find many redeeming qualities on Evander. That guy simply gets onto my nerves constantly and I will have a long way to go if I even want to consider accepting his character. Aydan with his hot head and strong jealousy is still far better off, although those are also character traits I don't enjoy, but I can understand him and have accepted him since the start. The plot is developing fast and with many twists, and it keeps me excited for the next events, so I cannot wait for book 3 especially after the ending.

Trying to decide between two men she never expected seems like challenge enough, but having an enemy stalking her is more than our heroine is prepared for. So she finds herself running not just from the enemy, but from her heart. That's not going to work for long.

This is book two of the series. It does pretty well as a standalone, but will be more enjoyable if read in order.

This is an urban fantasy story featuring dragons as well as a reverse harem. The story is well written and easy to read with a complex setting and a well developed cast of characters. The characters are particularly intriguing as they have unique characteristics, strengths and weaknesses which definitely keeps things interesting. The plot moves along at a good pace and features several twists and turns that keep you guessing. Overall, I am enjoying this series and I look forward to seeing where it goes next.

Highly recommended.

Holy hell y'all. If you thought book 1 was intense, book 2 is on fire!! Poor Sam about suffocates with all the tension between her, Evander and Ayden. Freaking Alphaholes were at each other throats for poor Sam. They start to come to an agreement towards the end, but they have a long way to go. I freaking love Granger, he has to have his moment in the third book....he just has to. He's a true underdog but I feel Lacey has something up her sleeve in store for him. We get a glimpse of a different side of him in this book, and I hope we get to see more. That dang green dragon is such an a$$ and I can't wait till he gets what's coming for him. No matter what Sam and the boys do to get rid of him, he's always there. And he has a friend in this book.

I couldn't put this book down with all the tension, spice and excitement. The cliffy came out of nowhere! Book 3 can't get here fast enough.

Second Book, must read the first!!!

As the title entails…. They’re dragon shifters, but they didn't know it because magic doesn't exist in this world. Sam and her men have to navigate this new world and instincts! Instead of the cats out of the bag, the dragons out of the bag! Everyone knows about them and chaos.

Sam is standing directly in the middle of it. Sam is fighting her half and instincts. It’s not easy. Add in her two possessive guys who hate each other and neither will move an inch. Ayden and Evander are both secretly plotting how to take the other one out. I can’t wait for things to settle between them… nothing like drama in your love triangle.

This book was just as amazing as the last and I can’t wait till the next comes out. There were plot twists and drama. Spice. You get some of the answers you were looking for but also are left with more questions than were answered. I highly recommend reading it and can’t wait for the next book!

The story continues with Surge of Heat and boy are things going to be ultra steamy with this book. While things took a minute or two to gain momentum with book – Surge of Fire, Surge of Heat is all heat and tons of drama.
Picking up where things left off this book takes off at full speed. Sam has discovered she’s a dragon. Evander is one of her mates, and is finally able to reunite with her two best friends. Things should even out now, right? Wrong. Cue tons of posturing, measuring, and tons of steamy.
We loved the steamy. In fact, can we have what she’s having? Please? LOL! What we didn’t like was all the possessiveness. Honestly, it got old...fast. Old and tiresome. Things just need to be “hammered” out already without the “sucker punches.”
The story is really growing and developing nicely and the ending will absolutely leave you eager for more. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next. Hopefully, the guys can get over their issues.
