In the cutthroat world of rodeo, Cajun bull rider Easton Faucheaux harbors a secret crush on his best friend and rival, Royal Guérin. As they grapple with their forbidden attraction amidst mysterious occurrences in the arena, they must choose between concealing their feelings or risking it all for a love that defies convention.
Cajun rodeo star Easton Faucheaux wants to win another bull riding championship but has three problems.
First, he hasn’t completely healed from an injury, and his sponsors aren’t convinced he’s still competition material. Second, strange things are happening in the arenas that no one is acknowledging. And third, Royal has inundated every nuance of his thoughts.
Not only is Royal his best friend and biggest competition, but he’s also the sexiest man Easton has ever seen.
The mere thought of screwing up their friendship is enough to keep Easton’s lips clamped.
***
Royal Guérin has always confided everything to Easton—well, almost everything. He does have one secret that he’s never shared despite wanting to.
However, with the finals nearing, protestors picketing, resurfaced feelings of his father’s abandonment, and other bizarre happenings that can’t be explained by natural occurrences, now isn’t the time for confessions.
Life is complicated without lopping more onto it.
So, whose idea was it to visit a psychic? Oh, that’s right—a new competitor has popped up out of nowhere. Now, there’s another secret to conceal.
Remaining silent is a struggle, but Royal will do anything to protect Easton.
Both athletes figure it’s best to remain silent—that is until silence isn’t an option anymore. The strangeness just got dangerous, and they find themselves embroiled in a deadly game of survival—mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Friends to lovers, mm romance and Bullriding?! Yes please!!! BUT the ending and the “paranormal” and the lack of actually bull riding (maybe mentioned 2-3 times?) was miss for me. I didn’t like that it’s advertised as a PNR but the PN element was barely mentioned (at the start, a couple of brief mentions and then the end) I really wanted to like this book but sadly it wasn’t for me.
I really enjoyed the romance aspect of this book. I am a bit disappointed that there wasn’t more to the demon/paranormal aspect. The end felt very rushed. I’m not sure if there is going to be a book two but maybe since it didn’t feel like it was finished. Parts of the book felt rushed and I would’ve loved more background on characters.
Have you ever read a book that felt like those fights you got into with friends in middle school where someone just kept saying “and another thing”? That’s what this book read like. A bunch of ideas thrown into a blender and mixed together even if they just didn’t work.
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for granting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hoo boy. It is like pummeling myself with hammers to try and care about a sports romance, but I wanted to give this a go. I thought that if anything could make me enjoy the genre, it would be something gay.
The machismo and desperation to cling to it is definitely something. It's not my taste, but I understand its intention in this book... even though it feels a little outdated. We also go from "cowboys are never gay and even though I love to look at my bff's lips, neither am I!" to "the sound of my bff's voice makes me nut" within the span of one POV chapter and, like, 10 in-world minutes.
There's almost too much going on here. There's bull riding, there's major injuries, there's gay panic, there's demons - and not only are you learning bull riding jargon as you go, but a bunch of scettershot Cajun and Creole French as well. This might all work if the book itself had a more drawn out, cohesive plot, where these aspects had individual time to shine, but in its current form it just feels like everything and the kitchen sink.
There's also so much dialogue. Like, sooo much. Which can be great, but often it feels like characters are popped in on the fly just to hear the main two protagonists yap. So you can see what good people they are. At times it can feel trite and borderline lazy, like no character work has to happen if you're privy to a hundred conversations that are happening.
This wasn't really my cup of tea, but if you like sports romances that are a little cheesy and a lot yappy, it might be for you.
I'm going with 4 purely because I appreciate the way the author acknowledges the fact that within a field where men are expected to be "manly" and maintain a specific image, being a gay individual would come with its own set of difficulties. She doesn't take away from the difficulties that other gay men face, but acknowledge and identifies the challenges that these men face in this regard. She touches upon the different challenges, and in doing so, brings into view the toxic way society views masculinity.
Simply because a man takes care of himself and maintains himself well shouldn't call into question his sexuality, but so often in society, it does.
I appreciate the topics and points that she touches upon in the book and how she handles a number of them. As for the writing and the story, they were good. The writing kept me interested. There were times where I felt she used unneccessarily big or fancy words, but that could have just been my opinion. I read a lot, but there were times where I was pausing and having to figure out what that word meant. Which, isn't a bad thing, but sometimes they just felt out of place. The story felt a little rushed at the end. It felt like it took a turn that it didn't need to almost, but it was interesting and I'm glad that I read it nonetheless.
I really liked Royal. If we're talking about ride-or-die characters in the book, that was my ride-or-die character. Easton was cute and adorable, but Royal was my boy. And Marcel. Their interactions with each other were just fun and wholesome. They truly did give you that family feeling as you were reading.
The glossary at the front of the book was appreciated and needed. Going back and forth did get a little daunting, so I stopped doing it and just went on not knowing what they said about 3/4 of the way through the book. If it had been a physical copy, it would have been easier, but ebook it just gets annoying. Context clues sometimes tell you what they're saying, but not always.
I was given an eARC of this book by NetGalley and the author in exchange for an honest review and, unfortunately, my honest opinion is that I did not like this book.
I did not get what I wanted or was expecting out of this read. The blurb and even cover sold me a "paranormal sports romance", I therefore find it fair on my part to imagine that most of the chapters would center around actual bullriding, competition and ghosts with the romance supporting it all. It was wrong of me to assume, I guess.
In all of it's 281 pages Easton rides a bull twice and the paranormal plotline is both developped and wrapped up in the span of three chapters. I understand now that Demon Rodeo is, above all, a romance novel. However I cannot help but feel a little lied too.
The writing style was also not for me, especially in the dialogues. I am certain that the constant wit and idioms/jokes that the characters throw at one another will be most entertaining to some, but I found it to be too much and often even disruptive to the flow of the story.
So all in all, yes I did not like this book, but my opinion is only one out of many. If everything I have mentionned does not bother you and you are tempted to read a romance with a background rodeo scenario and ghosts popping up once in a while, go for it! This is your book :)
Demon Rodeo tells the tale of two cowboys, Easton and Royal. Lifelong friends, each is hiding an attraction to the other for fear of rejection and the ruin of their friendship.
First off, this book sells itself as a “paranormal sports romance” and yes there is sport, and there is romance. What’s lacking is the paranormal. There is a tiny hint at the beginning, then again about 3/4 through, and then it gets bigger in the last 50 or so pages. And not necessarily in a good way?
I mean, I got there in the end, but the explanation and the revel was a bit convoluted and confusing to me and could have been simplified. It was also way too brief, or should have been alluded to more throughout the book.
I will say, I did enjoy the friends to lovers arc, it wasn’t too cliched and did feel a bit more natural than some of the others I’ve read before. The characters had some depth, and I really enjoyed a lot of the banter between the cowboys.
One character that I wish we had more time with was Royals mum, she sounds like an incredible character and would have maybe been my favourite side character.
The romance scenes were also too short and not detailed enough for me considering it was a romance novel.
Overall, I enjoyed the story, but found it lacking in a few too many areas for me…
This book was an absolutely wild ride. At no point did I have any idea where it was going and what was going to happen next.
It's described as a paranormal, cowboy MM romance. And while yes, those are the major plot points, there are also several side plots as well. But none are actually fully developed or fleshed out. There is so much inner monologue and babbling. And the majority of it doesn't progress the plot at all.
Homophobia plays a big role in the book, which is understandable given what the characters do for a living and how they were raised. But even that plot point isn't fully developed. We get a lot of fear, and even a character fully lash out at them, but then we get acceptance without fully having a conversation about it? It's strange.
The paranormal aspect felt out of left field. Like it kept popping up but just not making sense. And then the end was just wild.
In the end, this book did entertain me. Like I binged it and laughed a ton. But I wouldn't say it was good or that I liked it.
This was my first bull riding romance, and all I can say is that I need more! You see all these different sports romances, but I have yet to see a romance revolving bull riding, which I thought was really cool.
This book had a paranormal twist to it that I thought was really cool. It wasn’t very prominent in the story, but it came together at the end. And I just felt like it worked for this story. It was a different take from typical paranormal in a story and I freaking loved it.
I absolutely loved the two MMCs, Royal and Easton. Having grown up together, both at home and in bull riding, they were inseparable. But during this last season, they both realized they have feelings for each other. I was screaming when they finally got together I was so happy. I completely understood their concerns but was glad when they decided to choose their happiness over everyone else’s.
If you love slow burns, sports romances, and when main characters come out, check out this book. It’s available now!
Royal and Easton ride bulls for a living. A dangerous and deadly occupation. Add in their secret attraction to each other and their lives are in constant flux. They soon discover fighting their attraction is impossible and that feeling just may be what they need to survive. There is something in the arena that can’t be real, shouldn’t be there, and is terrifying.
I liked that they didn’t realize that they were in love with each other. The slow burn was very effective in learning about the two of them. Easton’s thoughts while riding a killer bull should of been distracting but only gave more insight to his character. Marcel (their father figure) was funny and added a bit of lightness to the story.
The explanation of certain fairytales was just what the story needed to make the demon real. Definitely not bedtime stories.
New favorite word…bulls**ttery

Demon Rodeo is an endearing MM cowboy romance that draws you into the rodeo world.
We follow Easton and Royal, two bull riders who have known each other since childhood, and who both have hidden their feelings for each other until Easton falls off his bull during a dangerous ride.
I really liked both Royal and Easton and was rooting for them from the beginning. I am not typically a sports romance reader, but I enjoyed this one. I also liked the fact this was friends to lovers. The political aspects of the rodeo intrigued me, from the financial disparities amongst participants and the subplot with the animals rights protesters.
The gay panic in this felt a bit outdated, even considering the conservative world the rodeo is set in. I also felt like this should not be marketed as paranormal, since it the paranormal elements were barely there. Additionally, the ending felt a bit rushed.
This was my first MM romance (I know 🫣), so I really enjoyed the introduction to this kind of romance. I really wanted to love this books, and I enjoyed it, however, it just felt a little flustered. Easton is back bull riding, after an injury set him back for a while. His childhood best friend and circuit competitor, Royal, is competing for first place in bull riding and Eastons heart. The demon/paranormal aspect is very loosely brushed on only a hand full of times throughout the book. The discovery of why it’s happening felt very rushed and an afterthought to add to the book.
I think this book is a good start to MM romance if you’re unsure if it’s something you’d like.
Thank you Hot Tree Publishing for sending me an early copy of this book.
It was an interesting read. I enjoyed the dive into Lousianan culture. I LOVED the characters. Roy and East own my heart - they're some damn cute. I enjoyed that you really got a sense of how the characters feelings - like how East came to the realisation that he was gay. I would recommend this book to people who love a cowboy romance.
I feel like the paranormal aspect could have had a deeper entanglement throughout the story but it was still enjoyable.
Also, all I want is an epilogue. I crave an epilogue - who won? How did the world react to their relationship? Is it really a relationship - they've said I love you but I need more!!!
Again, thank you for letting me read - I'll definitely be reading more
This book wasn’t for me. I found that I went into it expecting more of the demon/paranormal aspect and this one didn’t live up to my expectations. The writing was fine, it did the job, but the story dragged a little and then the ending felt rushed. I think that this one would have worked better had it been edited down and made into a novella. Had that happened I feel that I would have enjoyed it a whole lot more and really got into it.
I do think that this author is a good writer and I would pick up other books they have written.
Thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy, all thoughts are my own.
4.5 ⭐ This is my first book from the author, and surely it won’t be the last. The story was really good and engaging, I just kept reading. I loved the writing and the characters. I really loved the Easton and Royal relationship, and their dynamic with each other. I just wanted a little bit of the romance more and the paranormal side of the story was kinda dumped in the end and I would have loved it if it was more present. But overall it is a really good book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Genevive Chamblee for the opportunity to read this book.
This book was a conundrum. Too much and not enough at the same time. We have Cajun dialect, a crap ton of dialogue, soooo much rodeo jargon, gay panic, and it feels like it’s trying to be like Brokeback Mountain, just without the plot.
I think if it were a bit longer and developed it could have worked for me but as it is, it’s just not a right fit. 3 stars because the author at least deserves a neutral rating.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy.
3.5⭐️this book is about Cowboys, Rodeo and Supernatural so I couldn’t say no. I have not read a book like this.
Royal and Easton are professional Cajun bull riders, friends and have feelings for each other. This is a slow burn but I enjoyed seeing their love develop throughout the book. I do love a good supernatural book but I felt like there could have been more within the storyline.
There is a lot going on in this book and I had to get use to the bull riding jargon but overall I did enjoy this book. I’m looking forward to reading more books from this Author.
This is a new to me author The story was good I felt it was a little rushed at the end. The story had a twist I was not expecting that was so interesting and the plot just got better over time. The story follows Royal and Easton this is a MM romance my new favorite. You know the story friends/enemies have a rival and around one another then one day it clicks feeling are involved and the slow burn starts I love this. The whole bull rider thing was new to me and I enjoyed it. I am a big cowboy fan for this city girl approves. Definitely team Royal.
Loved it! I've volunteered to review this book for United Indie Book Blog. Demon Rodeo is the first book in the Chasing the Buckle series. This author is a new to me. I enjoyed every chapter. This story is about Royal and Easton. Royal and Easton ride bulls for a living. Both are well rounded, fun characters. They both secretly have feelings for each other. The story was really good and engaging, I just kept reading. I loved the writing and the characters. Can't wait to read more from this author. Keep up the good work! Definitely recommend this book.

This is the first book in a new paranormal sports romance based series. The books can be read independently, but there may be some overlap between them.
This adult romance follows Easton and Royal, Cajun bull riders, and lifelong friends.
I loved the rodeo setting of this book. I grew up watching local rodeos and always enjoyed them. It was great to read about them from the standpoint of the competition. The tension and attraction between Easton and Royal was thick enough to cut with a knife.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher/author for this copy of the book.
Demon Rodeo by Genevive Chamblee was a thoroughly enjoyable read. Supernatural meets bull riding, and I am here for it! Royal and Easton are well rounded, fun characters. My favorite aspect of this novel was how richly developed it was. From the very natural inclusion of cajun French, which was smoothly incorporated, to the frankly terrifying fairy tales, gris-gris, and other spooky lore. Fantastic read!
When I started this book I was not sure if I was going to read it all or it would be a DNF. I’m so glad I finished this book, it was not at all what I was expecting.
The characters being a stubborn male and not showing or telling there true feelings after all these years and it all coming out one night was perfect.
The paranormal in this was just perfect, and more and it would of been overkill I think.
While I did enjoy the storyline of DR, I felt like while the story dragged on a bit, and we weren't able to see more of their relationship before it ended. I would have liked to see how it was handled within the association and the outcome of it. I don't think this story was really for me, but I do think other readers may enjoy this.
2.5 stars rounded up. This was an okay book. Not the best, not the worst. I never really felt connected to the plot (which I found fairly thin) or characters. The friends to lovers aspect was pretty cute and that's about it. It's a quick read if you're in the mood for that trope.
I read an ARC of this book from NetGalley. All comments are my own.
Fun characters, enjoyable story. Loved the friendship between the characters and how the New Orleans culture was also woven into the story & the characters. Great little moments that really made the characters feel relatable and real.
Also very interesting take on demons and classic fairy tales. Do love a twist on fairytales.
3.75 stars rounded up

Loved this so much! The tension between Easton and Royal was fanastic since they were friends for as long as they could remember. The journey they took as both friends and competitors balanced with the fact that Easton was struggling with sexuality and Royal protecting him with a fierceness that only a close friend could be. The paranormal aspect of this book if very nice, tying in with one of the characters. But, I felt there could have been more. Maybe down the road there's gonna be more explanation into that because I really want to know. To be fair, this could have gone the contemporary route and it wouldn't have ruined the story. I felt this could have gone either way. But now I really need more of that paranormal aspect explained. I need book 2 stat!
Demon Rodeo blends cowboys, rodeo, and supernatural themes with a queer friends-to-lovers relationship. The book had promise, offering an intriguing mix of genres. However, it felt overstuffed, with too many plots competing for attention, which detracted from the main storyline. While the premise was interesting, the story needed further development to fully realize its potential.
