This Blood Burns picks up with the intensity, twists and the shock that left readers of This Family Lies enthralled. Coming late summer 2024.
I am so disappointed. I am one of JM cannons biggest fans. I love her trashy rich people books and “blood oranges” and “this family lies” are some of my favorite books ever. This was NOT it. Seriously what was this book? It didn’t have the same vibe as the first one. A bunch of stupid characters are added and this book has so much going on. I seriously don’t even know why so much unnecessary stuff had to be thrown into this book. I read this family lies in 24 hours this book took me 3 days to slug through.
I am very sad. Most disappointing read of the year.
I’m so sad I didn’t like this sequel to “This Family Lies”. I have loved the other two books I’ve read from this author, but this one was not it for me! I’m disappointed! 😭 It had a good couple shock factors, but nothing like the first book. I found myself more annoyed with Iris as the book went on. I needed her to get it together!!! And truthfully, I wasn’t a fan of the storyline of this. I felt a lot of the stuff could’ve been left out. Some characters weren’t really necessary. It still had the disturbing aspect to it, but overall, I just found myself not enjoying it. However, I still love this author and I’m looking forward to catching up on their other books!!!
This wasn’t the fun, heart-pounding thriller that the first book was. While there were some enjoyable moments, especially at the beginning when the story picks up right after the events of the first book, those moments felt few and far between. The second book had some interesting ideas that seemed to follow logically from the first book, but many of them came across as farfetched and didn’t quite land as well.
I also really missed the fast-paced, choppy narrative of the first book. In this one, there were several chapters where I felt like we were just running in circles. I kept thinking, "I get the point, but what’s next?" The slow pacing and repetition dragged the plot down, making it harder to stay engaged.
The ending, while satisfying, didn’t feel deserved because of the events in this book—it felt more like a reward for what happened in the first one. I almost wish they’d added a few more chapters to the first book with an alternative ending, and I would have been perfectly happy. This book just felt like it was an afterthought or perhaps rushed. I wanted to see more development of the ideas that were set up in the first book, but ultimately, it didn’t deliver in the way I had hoped.
This book left me wanting more after almost every chapter; more excitement, more suspense, more intrigue. Most of the time I found myself skimming pages to get to the “good stuff”. It was slow and drawn out in a lot of areas. Too much “fluff” and not enough suspense.
I read Blood Oranges and it sits at the top of my favorite books list so I was excited to read more by JM Cannon. This Family Lies was the prequel to this one and it was pretty good but not as good as Blood Oranges. This Blood Runs was even less enjoyable.
I loved the first book but this one fell pretty flat. This has no effect on my rating but I found so many errors too. Maybe the author is self published!? Not sure! This was another very fast paced book with literally no down time. I did enjoy that aspect but I think we could have maybe ended Iris’s story at the first book. It kind of seems like the plan could be for another book!? If so, hoping it is more enjoyable.
It was a good story line and I did enjoy it but similar to the first one, it just wasn’t gripping the whole time. It was very stop start. And also, how this got past editing stages is beyond me, the errors of wrong names in scenes that they weren’t even in/ incorrect spellings & grammar was shocking!
3 1/2 stars rounded up… not the same vibe as the first however I did enjoy it. Much more of a crime thriller but it worked. I’m hoping this is going to be a clever series if that ending is anything to go by!
Would love a continuation of this story. I didn't think I would like it when I started the second book. It was surprisingly good. A little gruesome but it fit well with the story line.
This was a good read for the most part but, there were a lot of editing mistakes that really bothered me. Misspelled words or using the wrong name for characters.
Reading this felt like a movie! This book has so many twist and turns I’m still trying to process it all, I ate this up! The ending fell a little flat for me through.
