The Man God Uses: Moved from the Ordinary to the Extraordinary - Member Book by Henry Blackaby and Tom Blackaby is a Bible study for men that is designed to provide spiritual direction and encouragement. Men are being touched by God all over our country, and men who have encountered God need to understand what He is doing in their lives and what their lives can mean when turned over to God. This seven session, interactive study of Scripture clearly shows how response should be in their personal lives, families, work, church, and community.
Session Topics:
Week 1: The Character of the Man God Uses Week 2: How God Shapes a Man Week 3: God's Refining Process Week 4: The Godly Man's response to God Week 5: Made for Times of Crisis Week 6: Being a Kingdom Citizen Week 7: On Mission with God in Our World
This is a great book to use with a small group of men or for someone looking to discover God's purpose for their life. It is a great book to help in understanding God's refining process for men and the different ways he uses us for His divine purpose. If you are looking for a very practical book to build and strengthen your daily walk with Jesus, this is an excellent book. Find out what it takes to be a man after God's own heart. Find out what kind of heart you need for God to use you. Great book!
I was given this book by Leon Edwards and enjoyed reading through it. Like a lot of Blackaby’s stuff it does not break any new ground, but does a good job of stating the need for commitment on our part to the Lord. I suppose if I were to say one element of this book that is a bit different it would be the emphasis on the local church. I think this is due to Blackaby’s work as a pastor and a church planter. I think he has seen the church as a critical element in his own spiritual development and in that of those that he has ministered to. The volume also does a good job of bringing together some very good quotes on the devotional life.
I suppose that one of the things I liked best about this book was the ease of reading it. It was a quick and enjoyable read. I think it is the kind of book that I could recommend to a men’s Bible study group. It also has a discussion guide at the back to make it even more useful. I think it is the sort of book that Neal Thomsen would really get a kick out of.
This book turned out to be an extraordinary experience, resonating deeply with me as a young man stepping into the world of vocational ministry. The authors, known for their insightful perspectives, delivered a compelling narrative filled with both wisdom and inspiration. Each page was imbued with poignant lessons and real-life stories that encouraged me to examine my own journey and the challenges that lie ahead. I found myself reflecting on my passions and aspirations, feeling motivated to embrace the calling that awaits me in ministry. This read not only captivated my attention but also left a lasting impact, providing me with the assurance and encouragement I needed as I embark on this transformative path.
After using this book to teach men's bible study for over a year, we as a group grew stronger in and out. I took it slow and dwelled on so many of the wise teachings within this book. This book is well worth it's weight in gold.
This book is full of truth and had I read this book at the same age a decade or more ago it would have had more of an impact. I love the author and the Biblical application, the problem is taking these truths and applying them to modern-day. We need authors to write books that transcend time and can be more applicable for future generations.
A great book all around. It serves its purpose well for encouraging men of faith and giving new perspectives on potentially older ideas. Goes to show the relevance God's word has in the 21st century. I liked how Blackaby delivered these ideas very practically. Although I hate using that word to describe his writing style (practical) but I think that's the best I can come up with.
The book was certainly full of biblical truths so that's the most important thing, but the book lacked a clear structural and direction. This book rambled and jumped around too much for my liking and I found it too distracting.
This is a great book! I was able to do a small group bible study with this book and as a group the experience was great. I highly recommend this as a small group study.
