WERE SECOND CHANCES WORTH THE RISK?

Forced to tutor troublesome Kartik Sharma, hardworking Sonia Desai was required to dedicate her after school hours to helping him graduate. And while they had a multitude of differences, they found that the similarities outweighed the rest, forming an unlikely bond between them, shifting from friendship to an undeniable love for one another that neither of them were brave enough to admit.

Until one day, Kartik and his family disappeared with nothing but a ‘for sale’ sign on their lawn, leaving Sonia wondering without an explanation.

It’s been eight years since the dreadful day Sonia last went asking around for him, no longer looking for answers about her first love. But when she runs into him again, after all this time, all efforts to avoid him get drowned away when he doesn’t stop trying to win her back.

Caught in a web of memories and mixed up emotions, the thin line between past and present starts to fade as life consistently throws them in each other’s paths. But can all the pain just vanish with an apology? Can they forgive each other’s mistakes and accept each other once again, as new people, even when they know the past cannot be wiped away?

Can they simply just move on...especially when neither of them truly knew the full story about what really happened eight years ago?

Thoughts :

- Sophomore novel tone was better than debut.

- Plot and pacing was really good.

- I’m a sucker for second chance romances.

- Bit too repetitive with the push & pull Sonia was doing.

- Their flashback is such a classic “bad boy” & “good girl” high school love and I ate it up.

- I was mad for both of them about the letter, it was “resolved” too quickly imo and the justification of it fell a bit flat (aka unrealistic) but idk I can overlook it. Honestly knowing what happened I’m just so mad for them and all the heartbreak that could have been avoided!!!!????

- The clay horse … I had an inkling of where it might be going .. being such a fan of Tollywood films where there’s a similar plot in one of them and it was cool to read it. (It’s also been dubbed into Hindi) (Telugu movie - Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana / Hindi dub - Ramaiya Vastavaiya)

Read the first two in series back to back. Also going to buy and read the third now too!

4.25 stars!!

this book was honestly so fun to read and the quotes in this book are just mwah!! 💋 let me just write some of my favorites so you guys can understand.

1. “She was becoming my addiction and just the thought of leaving, even if it’s just for a day, was killing me.”

2. “I’m gonna get my girl.”

3. “I stopped looking at constellations because looking at you was like looking at a thousand stars that light up the night sky.“

ok, do you get it now??! 🙈 like there’s just no way to not love these characters, ESPECIALLY kartik!! the groveling this man did to take her back 😫

my most favorite parts of this book were the flashbacks to their senior year and how kartik was slowly changing because of sonia. he realized he was a better person and more content when he was around her. especially, with everything that was happening at home. he felt peace with her.

in conclusion, READ THIS BOOK PLEASEEEE!!!

this book was really sweet, but it was so repetitive. it just followed a basic formula of kartik trying to talk to her, her saying it was a mistake to meet him, and then walking away. this happened every 5 chapters. i wish they talked about what happened sooner, maybe sonia asks for some time and then the shit happens with the letter and her mom. there didn't feel like there was an actual third-act conflict because it happened every few chapters. the climax didn't even feel climactic because they were just operating in a loop. i am more intrigued to see if jyothi gets a story with the exchange student her family is hosting because her talking about how adhira and sonia are whipped for their boyfriends is just foreshadowing.

good but honestly expected more, so repetitive and so much miscommunication that it got frustrating to read

3.5⭐️ i rlly liked this book. i would’ve given a 4 star but i felt like the plot repeated too much. like sonia would come to the conclusion that her and karthik needed to have an honest convo but whenever they are about to have a convo they end up doing it or she runs away from the convo, which was frustrating. but i still like sonia and karthik together and their history. and I also loved all the Taylor song and tv references
