WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THE MISADVENTURES OF MISS WRITE SERIES
“This series has such a great cast of characters. Carla is so endearing - funny, smart, sassy, opiniated and confident. The world needs more women like her.” Amazon reader Denise L.
“Webb is masterful at creating the suspense here. Even as I giggle at some of the interactions between the characters, I’m fully invested in finding out what happened.” Roxx T, ProofPerfectEditing.com
“Gena Webb goes from emotional and exciting peaks to valleys of comfort and fun reading. Her books so far are becoming habit forming... but what a neat habit! Her ability to bring you into the story and the characters to life is phenomenal. I am already looking forward to the next book! Hope it's soon.” Amazon readers Dave & Rosemary
Gena Webb’s passion has always been writing, but through the years it took second place to her other endeavor—serving her country. Born in California, she enlisted in the Air Force a few years after high school graduation. Her first assignment was as a computer operator in Omaha, Nebraska.
Eventually, she ended up in San Antonio, Texas, where she retired after serving more than 23 years. Eight months later, she got bored being a bum and went back to the Air Force where she served in a civilian capacity for another 19-plus years.
If Gena’s learned anything in her life, it's this: God is in control, He has a plan, and that plan includes only what is best for us. Although her books aren't "preachy" by any stretch of the imagination, she does tend to put that concept into her novels. Everyone could occasionally use a gentle reminder to live by faith, don't you think?
She currently lives in San Antonio with her wonderful, supportive husband of many years. Her children/stepchildren are scattered throughout the country, although their one daughter lives two houses away. This comes in handy when they want to travel, since she doesn't have to walk too far to feed their indoor kitty babies and the 4,000 stray cats that have taken up residence in the yard. That might be a slight exaggeration, but there are quite a few.
Gena Webb also writes under the pen name of Kay Wyont. Both of her series (The Misadventures of Miss Write and Alamo City Mystery) are set in San Antonio. They are liberally sprinkled with humor and the flavor of her adopted hometown. A percentage of all proceeds from her novels are donated to various charitable organizations. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I was pleased to continue the news about Carla and Roger. Carla had a car accident six weeks previously which caused her to lose the baby she was carrying, have a hysterectomy and a new hip and Carla and Roger are grieving over the loss of their unborn child when a man is murdered outside their home on a Friday afternoon and a toddler is orphaned and they are asked to look after the child until the child care can kick in after. They don’t have much choice as the Social Services close for the weekend.
The book has a layer which explores the emotions of a married couple who have lost the chance to have their own child, the grieving process and a test of their faith. Carla is wondering about her faith and why she has been dealt so many blows in her life and is helped by her friends to keep her sanity and out of the depression she has sunk into. Her collection of cats, dogs and a couple of horses are keeping her busy as is the book she is meant to be writing for her publisher but naturally she is unable to concentrate.
This book also highlights the problem of couples not talking to each other as they both want to adopt Ella but are worried if the other one is willing to and whether it is too soon after the accident. Although they are both busy, they are reluctant to discuss matters and tip toe around each other and only discover their true feelings and admit it to each other as Ella is put in the car to go to foster parents.
Are they too late to adopt Ella, will they be allowed to adopt her given their recent tragedy and more important how does Ella feel?
I hope I don’t have to wait too long for the next book in the series
On the Write Track by Gena Webb. I received a free copy of the book from the author in exchange for my review. I'll again try to give my thoughts on the book while not giving away any secrets. While on the case of a pawn store robbery that left 3 people dead, Roger & his partner Steve have the delightful experience of interviewing Mrs. Lippman. Mrs. Lippman is an older lady who enjoys watching true-crime shows on TV. Add in her long-winded roundabout way of talking & the reader is left to wonder will Roger and Steve die of boredom before Mrs. Lippman gets to the point? (I'm fairly certain we all have a Mrs. Lippman in our life, either a relative or a former teacher or whatever. In any event, her inclusion is yet another fine example of the author's use of humor). On the Write Track ties in very much with the previous novel, Write Place, Wrong Time. This book deals more with Carla and Roger's personal lives, although there is still a mystery to solve and criminals to be brought to justice. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book. Who knows? Maybe by the end of it, Roger will have learned not to dismiss Carla's insights and stop assuming she's just trying to make up sensational storylines for her Alamo Mystery novels.
I love this book. From the Prologue (so important!), every word counts to build an emotive, heart-breaking, heart-warming tale. Exploring so many parts of human nature, from the violent, arrogant, and belligerent to the healthier caring, healing, loving side – even racial difference is of little importance. But there is also the undercurrent of a basic misreading of the other’s feelings and thoughts - frustratingly, Carla and Roger are the culprits! How did they get to this place? Is the appearance of a small child on their doorstep connected to the horrible violence of a robbery? How is that even possible? Can this be the start of healing? There is so much to be discovered, so buckle up, grab the tissues, a cuppa, and get ready for an amazing read!
I am so glad I found this series. I have read all for in a week. Carla's pain at the beginning of the book had me in tears. It was so well written there wasn't any doubt. On the Write Track is an emotional rollercoaster. And the characters are people that I think I may know. All of their interactions are very true to life and brought to life brilliantly by Ms. Webb. When Carla and Roger aren't communicating how they really feel about Ella, it made me wish I could call Maggie and have her slap both of them. With each book the characters become stronger and better. And the way everything ties together is always amazing. Settle in with a cup of tea, and enter Carla's world.
Her husband and herself are about to have a young child stay with them. It will not be easy when they learn someone is after the child. They need to keep them safe while trying to keep the child safe. How will they get on? Can they get to the truth? Can they keep the child safe? See how it will all go
